GLASS CANADA

LET’S BUILD

Top Glass always gives me a feeling of optimism and inspiration, but there’s an extra spirit of momentum in the air this year. It’s not just that our friends at the Ontario Construction Secretariat are reporting a strong pipeline of ICI construction work ahead for 2026. More than that, it seems like the word “build” is on everyone’s lips. Suddenly, and for the first time in a long time, governments, businesses and the general public are united in a desire to see shovels in the ground, work crews on site and new facades rising in our communities. From the Prime Minister right down through local mayors, both the messaging and the policies reflect an urgency to get things moving.

It may seem strange to sound any note of optimism in this era of uncertainty and chaos, but the unknown can throw up the good as well as the bad. Yesterday, some of you will have toured Tri-Temp Glass where David Lawless and his team have recently installed several million dollars worth of new glass fabrication equipment. They are not alone – investments like this are going on all over the country. Glazing subcontractors are seeing opportunity and growth and Top Glass is where you can prepare to join the party.

I’ll go out on a limb and say the forces slowing our growth as an industry are weaker than they have been in quite a while. We’ve assembled our largest-ever show floor full of top Canadian vendors who can help you. Our seminar sessions will get your creative juices flowing with exclusive insights and information. And, as always, you’ll find all your friends on hand to compare notes and share ideas. We’ve built an indispensable event for the glass industry here at Top Glass, and we hope you can use it to help Canada build again.

ELITE CUSTOM GASKETS

trelleborg.com

Trelleborg has been able to bond silicone and EPDM into a singular extrusion. These two compositions of material are generally incompatible and normally cannot be used together. Trelleborg promoting this technology for gasketing and sealing applications on architectural facades, including curtainwall applications.

The combination of EPDM and silicone allows for the benefit of each composition in a singular co-extrusion. EPDM is known for its durability and density. EPDM is therefore ideal for use in the mechanical engagement such as the dart or T-race that engages into aluminum frames. The density of EPDM allows the engagement to lock into the frame and is particularly beneficial when the gasket is subject to movement cycles, or a slight pulling force like that of an operable. Silicone, on the other hand, is superior for its sealing capabilities with various gaskets in fenestration applications. Whether a glazing gasket, air seal, horizontal or vertical rainscreen gasket, or seal for an operable, silicone provides superiority in performance. Trelleborg is able to design custom gasket profiles for any application using this proprietary technology.
