The spatial experience of walking through the woodlands and into the open areas of the site, plays with the transition of exposure to light/dark and open/enclosed spaces

1:4 GRADIENT THE STEEPEST SLOPES

The woodland species are selected to reflect the surrounding areas where the native woodland habitat ‘Lowland mixed deciduous woodland’ is dominating. The canopy layer exists of Common oak (Quercus robur), Silver birch (Betula pendula), Rowan (Sorbus aucuparia), Hazel (Corylus avellana), Holly (Ilex aquifolium) and Sycamore (Acer pseudoplatanus). The shrub layer consist of Bramble (Rubus fruticosus) and Honeysuckle (Lonicera periclymenum). The majority of the field layer consists of the grasses Creeping soft grass (Holcus mollis), and Yorkshire fog (H. lanatus). It also consists of the fern species Dryopteris dilatata, D. filix-mas, and D. affinis. A

THE MOST GENTLE SLOPES

The meandering topography along the woodlands and meadows, has a shifting incline from 1:10 to 1:4, which creates a dynamic yet embracing atmosphere towards the site.
