INVERGORDON

50 MIN BY TRAIN

INVERNESS

INVERGORDON, SCOTLAND

A former naval base town with the intact, but now abandoned, former military oil storage depot Seabank Tank Farm When observing Invergordon (town with almost 4000 residents) from above, one may believe that the large site (around 23.5 ha) of the former fuel depot has a distinctive visual impact of the town. But in reality, due to the topographical changes in elevation, the tanks

are often not visible, when walking around in the town centre. Prior to the site was taken over by the Ministry of Defence during WWI, the site was used as a golf course and a park. In 1912, the work began to transform the location to an oil storage depot. During WWII, one

tank was destroyed (the gap in the furthest left row of tanks). The last tank was constructed in 1955, and the site was still partly used in the early 1990’s before the site was sold to a local company. Since then, the site has been abandoned and forgotten by many residents.
