Welcome
TO OUR 15TH ANNUAL SPRING BULL SALE!
We welcome any of you, new to our program for the first time and THANK YOU to all of our repeat customers for your purchases in our past sales and your continuous support in our program, without all of you, 66 Ranch Ltd would not be what it is today. A real ranch run purebred herd.
For any of you not familiar with our program, we do make our cows work for themselves around here. Our cows are expected to forage for themselves well into the winter months, even into February in some cases, weather depending of course. Our idea around here is “good cows raise good calves” we are extremely particular about our mother cows’ udder quality, it is of upmost importance with our cows calving in later April and May on green grass. Udder support & teat size is very important with a cow on green grass with a 80-85 lb calf sucking on her, you will recognize quickly how important those two things are on udder quality. We breed our purebred herd in 2 cycles, one cycle of A.I. and one cycle of walking bulls, so she has to be fertile to stay around here. Our cows are expected to travel distances in certain times of the year for feed and water so foot quality and leg structure is as well of upmost importance. Grazing cattle in January and February the cows need to be moderate and easy keeping to maintain body condition while foraging on sometimes poorer stockpiled grass.
For any of you that are unaware, last winter we purchased the entire purebred cow herd from Valley Blossom Ranch, Beau and Ashley Switzer, from just south of Swift Current, Saskatchewan. The opportunity presented itself late in the fall of 2024 and in early 2025 we made an agreement with Beau & Ashley to purchase their cow herd, and they agreed to calve their cows out for us, being they were February calving cows. We received the pairs and their open heifer calves in late April. (We bred the cows this past year to start calving mid April along side the rest of our herd!) We felt their herd would complement our herd and fit right in, these cows of theirs are real ranch cows as well. Beau & Ashley run their purebred cows in as similar of a fashion as ours do. Beau, over the years of conversation with him, has always talked of foot quality. This set of cows is possibly one of the strongest footed set of purebred cows we have run across. We really want to thank Beau & Ashley for the opportunity to purchase their herd, and for the most “classy” cow purchase we have been involved in. They calved and managed these cows last spring like they had never even sold them. We are so grateful to have great friends like these people!
So, with all of that being said, we will have to offer this spring approximately 70 more yearling bulls in our sale offering than past years. These 70 extra bulls will obviously have more age than our other 95’ish yearling bulls, being born starting in February. We feel that these 70 February/March born calves will complement our other yearlings with a little more age, come breeding season for most of our commercial customers the bulls will be nearing 17 months of age. We will also be offering 40 +/- 2 year old bulls like we always do in our spring sale, being the calves at our place that are born after May 10th.
Please stop in or give us a call anytime prior to the sale with any questions about our offering or any of the dams that have bulls in the sale. We are always happy to talk cows with anybody that cares about cows as much as we do!
Also, please look up our videos on DLMS prior to the sale, we take the time to take pictures of the feet on all bulls offered in our sale, and they are included in the video of each individual lot. If you can not attend our sale at Bow Slope Shipping Association in Brooks, Alberta on April 16th starting at 1:30pm MST sharp, you can view and bid on DLMS, or can contact any of our capable sale staff listed in the front of this catalog. They will all be upfront and honest with you about anything in this offering. Bulls will also be available for viewing at Bow Slope in the afternoon of April 15th.
If you purchase, bid, or just come to view our offering for the first time, please stay after the sale for an amazing Angus steak and a little “Country Hospitality!”
Thanks for your interest in our program!

BERRY CREEK VETERINARY SERVICES
The two year old bulls offered for sale by 66 Ranch have all passed a breeding soundness examination and are classified as satisfactory potential breeders. This year the yearling bulls offered for sale by 66 Ranch have passed a breeding soundness examination and are classified as satisfactory potential breeders. They have scrotal circumference measurements above the minimum requirement recommended by the Society of Theriogenology and Western Canadian Association of Bovine Practitioners. In my opinion the bulls offered for sale are in excellent health and in ideal body condition.
Sincerely, Kirby Finkbeiner, DVM

RECOMMENDED HEIFER BULLS
There are probably more than the 82 recommended “Heifer Bulls” at our sale. But we feel confident that the bulls with the bold print BW in the catalog will make for trouble free calving off your 1st calf heifers.

Average EPDs for all Black Calves born in 2025
These are the numbers to compare the bulls in the catalog to:

Change is inevitable. Thirty years ago, we never imagined a day when we would step back from the purebred industry. When we began discussing the possibility of dispersing the herd, we knew one thing for certain—it would have to be to the right outfit and done in one deal. As it turned out, it became the classiest cow deal of our lives.
The Campbell family were great friends before and throughout the process, and today we are even closer. They truly represent the kind of salt-of-the-earth people this industry is built on.
For the “66” crew to even consider adding our herd alongside theirs is something we view as one of our proudest accomplishments. The 66 Ranch program has always been built around the kind of cattle we believe in—sound, functional ranch cattle that work for a living, last for years, and while carrying the eye appeal we all appreciate.
The set of bulls originating from VBR are bred with the same “cowboy cattle” philosophy that defines the 66 Ranch program: moderate birth weights, structural correctness, muscle, and good feet. These are cattle designed to travel, work in real-world conditions, and sire calves that convert feed into pounds—because when they reach the bunk, pounds are what matter.
We would be more than happy to visit with anyone who has questions about the VBR-bred cattle in this offering and are glad to share any insight on the cattle selling. We can’t thank the 66 Ranch crew enough for the respect and professionalism they have shown us throughout this entire process.
All the best on sale day.

WHY WE HOLD OUR SALE LATER IN APRIL
We, along with our veterinarian’s advice, believe the yearling bulls will be old enough to semen test prior to the sale. By doing this, hopefully it will make your & our lives easier by the bulls being able to go to their new homes directly after the sale or shortly thereafter.

ABSOLUTE 336N

A bull that sold through our 2023 Spring Sale purchased by Merit Cattle Co. We saw this bull again last spring and thought so much of him that we decided to draw some semen to use in our herd. Incredible foot, muscle expression, great hip and his dam has proven herself here at the ranch, and is heading to our donor pen. Super maternal pedigree, with the growth and performance we all want in the steer pen. Expect to see a lot more progeny here out of 120K. Bull calves average birthweight is 80 lbs. Heifer calves is 75 lbs.

FLORA 4120
A walking bull purchased at Merit Cattle Co. We fell in love with 1020J for his length of body, muscle pattern and huge middle as well as an incredible hip. All this with a very moderate birthweight. Once again we chose 1020J for all his great qualities but were absolutely convinced to own him with the dam on the bottom of his pedigree, Flora 6078D. We just cannot get enough of the Flora bred females at Merit. Exceptional udder quality from this line. You will want to keep these daughters. Big middled, hairy females with impeccable udders. The kind we are striving to build here at 66 Ranch. Bull calves average birthweight is 82 lbs. Heifers calves is 75 lbs. Owned with Murray Ranches.

LOOKING FOR LONGEVITY?
A cow at 66 Ranch is under great scrutiny from her first calf and continuing on her entire life at our place. If they show any imperfections with feet, udder or disposition they are culled right there on the spot. Any cow 4 or 5 has been scrutinized pretty thoroughly. So with that being said, we are pretty proud to have 117 cows that raised bulls in this sale being 6 years old and older, all the way up to 16 years old.

DAM PHOTOS

After conversations between Malissa and I over the past couple years, we thought being as we were such a maternal based program people may appreciate seeing some photos of our females in our catalogues. These photos may not be the traditional combed up, blown off “Pretty” pictures most people put in their catalogues. These are pictures of our cows in their working clothes. For any of you that are not completely familiar with our program, we take a photo of all our cows when we tag their newborn calf. This way we can see their bags anytime of the year, and are available to show all of you our cows when their bags are at their fullest, moments after they calve.

MERIT INVESTMENT 1054J

A walking bull at the Ranch. We were able to purchase half interest in Investment over the winter of 2024/25. Extremely excited that the great folks at Duralta Farms offered us the opportunity to purchase 1054J so he could walk the pastures at 66 Ranch. A female maker through and through. 1054J is backed by the absolutely beautiful female and herd bull maker, Flora 6078D. I think if you read through our herdsire footnotes you may see a common theme here of this prolific cow Flora 6078D. On the topside of 1054J’s pedigree is U2 Coalition 206C, a proven bull backed by another outstanding female U2 Erelite 109Z. You will want to keep all the females that are sired by these 1054J sons, the bred heifers and heifer calves at our place are at the front end of their pens. Bull calves average birthweight is 84 lbs. Heifer calves is 79 lbs. Owned with Murray Ranches.

GOOD COWS RAISE GOOD CALVES!!
What we expect of a cow at 66 Ranch:
• She must calve on time
• She must nurse her calf on her own for her whole life
• She must have proper feet and legs to allow her to travel around our place into her teen years

• She must be able to carry enough flesh throughout the year to be able to graze right until February without added protein (if winter allows it)
• She must be fertile enough to get bred either by 21 days of A.I. and 21 days of a walking bull. She’s got 42 days to get bred!
• She must wean a quality calf, if it’s a bull calf, needs to be one we can sell to our commercial customers, or a heifer calf, to be quality enough to go to our replacement pen

We purchased this bull because of his maternal greatness, quoted from the footnotes in their catalog “ 1169 represents well what our program is all about. Stacking as many top cows into the pedigree as possible. It can’t get much better than this here.” Multiple, multiple donor cows on both the top and bottom side of his pedigree. A walking bull at the ranch purchased from the super people at Merit Cattle Co. Trent and Janelle Leibreich. We purchased him because he was in our eyes one of the longest, deepest, yet moderate herd bulls in their pen that season. But the determining factor for us deciding to own him was the maternal value he would bring. 6 of the 7 cows on the front of the pedigree were all raised at Merit. Proven, predictable maternal breeding bull here. 32H has and will continue to be bred to some of our top females at our place. Be sure to plan to retain all the heifer calves from 32H, they will be in the replacement pen and in the cow herd for a long time. 32H sires calves with exceptional foot quality. Not unexpected by the foot quality his dam has, as near a perfect foot with exceptional heel as you can find. A walking bull at 66 Ranch purchased from Merit Cattle Co. We selected 1001J besides for his amazing growth from birth to weaning to yearling weight, but also because of the maternal power and greatness that raised him, Flora 6078D. She is a mainstay in the donor pen at Merit and we feel she is as ideal of an angus cow as you will find. Picture perfect udder, feminine, moderate, easy fleshing, near perfect footed and doesn’t seem to matter what they mate her to she cranks out herd bulls. 1001J’s bull calves average birthweight is 87 lbs. There will be no surprises of what the female progeny will look like with all these great females stacked in 2047K’s pedigree. WHAT CUSTOMERS HAVE TO SAY ABOUT OUR BULLS
Back in 2011 we approached Chuck, Kelsey and Malissa about building up our herd with 66 Ranch Angus genetics. With ranch perspective, they understood and respected our longterm plan. We calve out in 12-14 section fields with rough terrain, so we needed bulls that could produce easy calving cows, and have strong maternal instincts. Our bull battery of 55-60 exclusive 66 Ranch genetics gets fresh bulls added every year, and it’s not uncommon to have 5 or more 6 year old bulls still viable and working.
When planning the new bull purchases, we try to stick to about 4 to 5 family groups using half-brothers to help bring uniformity. The evidence shows each fall during weaning when large groups of balanced uniform steers and heifers are put in pens ready for sale or feed. 66 Ranch does an amazing job of staying ahead of genetic selection by planning years in advance. The bulls are easy to work with, they have great feet, travel well, are easy keepers, who cover the cows in tough conditions, and their longevity is valuable. The cow herd has also benefited from the genetics with many cows well over 10 years of age still producing, that still have great feet and udders.
We are so thankful and respectful of the guidance and working relationship with Kelsey and Malissa, who’s top-notch bull program continues to improve our cow herd every year.
Sincerely, Rafter 7 Ranches Ltd.
Tim, Christina, Jesse, Joc & Brielle Christianson (185 bulls)
Carolside Ranching would like to express our sincere gratitude and appreciation for the incredible level of service we have received from Kelsey and Malissa (66 Ranch). The bulls we have purchased from 66 have had a huge positive impact on our herd.
Sincerely,
Brad Slorstead (118 bulls)

Plain and simple, 17Z has it all. Performance, ease of flesh, leg structure, super foot, free moving, maternal. We feel we have lucked out and finally raised one that can compete with any A.I sire. His heifer calves are extremely feminine and by far the top end of the pen. Very moderate birth weights out of 488 calves, 86 lbs. avg. on the bull calves and 78 lbs. avg. on the heifer calves. We find it much easier to have confidence in A.I.’ing to a bull that you know exactly what his sire is and as well his dam. Because they both came from our program.

A walking bull at the ranch sourced from Merit Cattle Co. We purchased “Cool” 3028L as a calving ease sire to use on our 1st calf heifers while adding performance. Cool has that extra length of spine with a powerful hip and very deep flanked for a legit heifer bull. The other thing we really admired about him was his early maturity, that definitely adds to his high libido. We have never seen a yearling bull be such an aggressive breeder. He would literally push the heifers with his shoulder into position and be on top of them and have the job done before you could blink your eyes! Super sound footed, hairy, docile, big nutted. The cow family behind him on the bottom side of his pedigree was the determining factor for us to make sure we owned him.
