At 66 Ranch, our cattle are raised under real ranch conditions because that’s where true functionality is proven. We focus on ease of flesh, developing cows that can convert poorer forage into pounds and maintain body condition without relying on feed trucks or extra inputs. Our cows are expected to look after themselves through the winter and thrive in practical, working environments.
We are a family-run operation located just north of Brooks, Alberta, along Matziwin Creek. Our ranching roots trace back more than 80 years to Lee Beasley, whose vision and values continue to guide our program today. In 2008, 66 Ranch was established using one-third of the original Beasley herd and named after Lee’s first cattle brand—“66.”
We are firmly maternal-focused. We believe that if you have a good cow, she will raise you a good calf. Longevity, fertility, structural soundness, and moderate frame size are non-negotiable traits in both our purebred and commercial herds.
Our cattle graze year-round on irrigated pasture and rougher native terrain, without supplements or creep feed. We do not push our cattle we let their genetics work. Cattle that cannot perform under these conditions are culled. Breeding is structured around April and May calving to align with native grass growth, using moderate birth-weight genetics. Calves are expected to thrive naturally in these conditions.

Our genetic base has been carefully built and strengthened over time.
2012: Purchase of the entire Badlands Black Angus herd, significantly advancing quality and consistency.
2025: Acquisition of the Valley Blossom Ranch purebred herd from Beau and Ashley Switzer. This outstanding set of females is already making a strong impact on our program, and we are excited about the influence they will have on the bulls we offer in the years ahead. Today, we run both purebred and commercial Black Angus herds, selecting replacement females for maternal ability, soundness, and longevity.
All cattle are enrolled in the Pfizer Gold Program, supporting long-term herd health, fertility, and productivity. Bulls are grown slowly and evenly, ensuring durability and longevity rather than pushed performance. Only bulls that meet our strict standards make the sale.

Our calving and development program is designed to produce bulls that fit commercial operations: April-born calves sell as yearlings in our Spring Bull Sale May 1–10 calves sell in our December Bull Sale
May 11 – June 10 calves are developed into two-year-old bulls for the following spring
Buyers are always welcome to stop by the ranch for a tour of the cow herd and bull pens prior to sale day. We believe the best way to understand our program is to see the cows behind the bulls.

Merit Flora 6078D
1020J was purchased from Merit Cattle Co. for his length of body, muscle pattern, depth of rib, and powerful hip, all while maintaining a moderate birthweight. The decision to own him was strongly influenced by the proven Flora 6078D cow family, known for exceptional udder quality and highly productive females. His daughters are the kind targeted for long-term herd building at 66 Ranch big-bodied, hairy, and structurally sound with excellent udders. Bull calves average 81 lbs at birth, heifer calves 75 lbs. Owned with Murray Ranches.

HF SYNDICATE 213Z U2 ERELITE 109Z
A walking bull at the Ranch. We were able to purchase half interest in Investment over the winter of 2024/25. Extremely excited that the great folks at Duralta Farms offered us the opportunity to purchase 1054J so he could walk the pastures at 66 Ranch. A female maker through and through. 1054J is backed by the absolutely beautiful female and herd bull maker, Flora 6078D. I think if you read through our herdsire footnotes you may see a common theme here of this prolific cow Flora 6078D. On the topside of 1054J’s pedigree is U2 Coalition 206C, a proven bull backed by another outstanding female U2 Erelite 109Z. You will want to keep all the females that are sired by these 1054J sons, the bred heifers and heifer calves at our place are at the front end of their pens. Bull calves average birthweight is 83 lbs. Heifer calves is 78 lbs. Owned with Murray Ranches.

Merit Flora 6078D

This walking bull was purchased from Merit Cattle Co. for his length, depth, moderation, and especially his strong maternal value. His pedigree is proven, with 6 of the first 7 cows raised at Merit, and his dam, 6060, noted for exceptional foot quality and maternal consistency. Bull 32H has been and will continue to be bred to top females, with plans to retain all heifer calves for long-term herd replacements. His calves show excellent feet and structure, with bull calves averaging 85 lbs at birth and heifer calves averaging 79 lbs.

MERIT STONEY CREEK 4023 MERIT FLORA 6078D KR INCREDIBLE 8149 MERIT BLACKLASS 1184
A walking bull at the ranch acquired from Merit Cattle Co. at their 2024 annual sale. We selected 3023L not only for the amount of power he carries through his top, big middle, added bone, absolutely astounding feet, but for the two powerful cows close up in his pedigree. Once again the no miss dam Flora 6078D, and the power cow that stands on such a near perfect foot that you wished all cows did, Merit Blacklass 6060D. Blacklass 6060D is no stranger to raising herd sires, McLaren 8020, Lawman 2029, Sheriff 2040K, and the herd bull that walked pastures here, Kingpin 32H! Expect 3023L to raise you top end steers for sale day, and so many powerful cows weaved into his pedigree, there sure won’t be many heifers that won’t be in the replacement pen. Bull calves average birthweight is 82 lbs. Heifer calves average birthweight is 80 lbs.

A walking bull purchased at Merit Cattle Co. Better known around our place as “Ranchwater”. Ranchwater stands on a foot as good as you will find. All four feet have toes that are straight as a ruler and he has as much heel under him as you can put on a foot. You will wear out a pickup truck driving around the countryside to try and find a bull with a foot as strong as this bull! He is a sleep all night heifer bull with a dam behind him that fleshes up as easy as you can make one. For a sure fire heifer bull, he sure puts a hip, middle and a topline onto his progeny. The docility of Ranchwater is unmatchable. Super excited to implement Ranchwater’s genetics going forward in our program! Bull calves average birthweight is 74 lbs. Heifer calves is 70 lbs.

A walking bull at the ranch sourced from Merit Cattle Co. We purchased “COOL” 3028L for his calving ease to use on our 1st calf heifers while adding performance as well. Cool has that extra length of rib with a powerful hip and very deep flanked for a heifer bull. The other thing we really admired about him was how early maturing he was, that definitely passes onto the high libido he possesses. We have never seen a bull as a yearling be such an aggressive breeder, he would literally push the heifers with his shoulder into position and be on top and have the job done before you could blink your eyes! Super sound footed, hairy, docile, big nutted, and the cow family behind him on the bottom side of the pedigree was the determining factor for us to make sure we owned him sale day. His absolutely gorgeous dam 1004J is a daughter of the once again, “One of the best cows we have found to date” Flora 6078D! Bull calves average birthweight is 72 lbs. Heifer calves average birthweight is 66 lbs.

Flora 1004J

A walking bull raised at 66 Ranch. What a fortunate thing happening to us with this bull! He checks all the boxes, very moderate birth, great performance, and awesome looking female progeny, great scrotal, feet are superb, natural ease of flesh. We are very, very high on these 1D bred progeny. The rancher’s kind of cattle out of this bull! We have 384 progeny registered in our herd. Bull calves average birthweight is 83 lbs. Heifer calves is 77 lbs.

STUART CHISM 82A
66 DUCHESS 249A
66 ALLIANCE 17Z
SOUTH FORK ROSEBUD 153X
A walking bull at the ranch raised by us, a “1D” son. 1D has quickly risen to the top at our place. Raising sons like 48G that are just the right type. Both 1D and 48G stamp their calves the same. Deep, soggy, soft made, moderate, easy to look at Angus cattle. Foot quality is very strong, udders on our milking daughters have been absolutely outstanding! 48G’s dam is about as good as they come, expect females out of the 48G sons to remain in the herd for a long time. With very moderate birthweight on the dam’s side and 1D having moderate birth, feel safe using 48G progeny on 1st calf heifers. Bull calves average birthweight is 78 lbs. Heifer calves is 76 lbs.

A walking bull raised at 66 Ranch. 153H is absolutely the best son raised to date by our sire “1D.” 153H has been a crowd favorite at our place by people who have stopped by. He has as much style as any, super hip, big top and fantastic head on 153H. His dam 21B has year after year cranked out some of our top calves. Bull calves average birthweight is 79 lbs. Heifer calves is 73 lbs.

Plain and simple, 17Z has it all. Performance, ease of flesh, leg structure, super foot, free moving, maternal. We feel we have lucked out and finally raised one that can compete with any A.I sire. His heifer calves are extremely feminine and by far the top end of the pen. Very moderate birth weights out of 486 calves, 86 lbs avg. on the bull calves and 78 lbs avg. on the heifer calves. We find it much easier to have confidence in A.I.’ing to a bull that you know exactly what his sire is and as well his dam. Because they both came from our program.

DO YOU CARE ABOUT THE COW THAT RAISED YOUR BULL? ‘CAUSE WE SURE DO!

A bull that sold through our 2023 Spring Sale purchased by Merit Cattle Co. We seen this bull again last spring and thought so much of him that we decided to draw some semen off of him to use in our herd. Incredible foot, muscle expression, great hip and his dam has proven herself here at the ranch to be heading to our donor pen. Super maternal pedigree, with the growth and performance we all want in the steer pen. Expect to see a lot more progeny here out of 120K. Bull calves average birthweight is 78 lbs. Heifer calves is 79 lbs.

An extremely deep sided walking bull purchased from Hamilton Farms. We selected him for his calving ease and extremely good performance. His dam is a favorite at Hamilton’s, a moderate framed cow with an excellent level udder. We sadly lost 135G through the winter of 2021 to an injury, fortunately though we have semen in the tank to utilize his genetics for years to come. Bull calves average birthweight is 80 lbs. Heifer calves is 76 lbs.

MERIT COUNTESS 8114F
A walking bull at the ranch purchased from Merit Cattle Co. We selected 2030K to be used on our 1 calf heifers, a calving ease bull with some added performance. 23H, the dam of 2030K, is a beautiful uddered Range Boss daughter out of a Countess cow 8114F that makes herd bulls as well as beautiful daughters. 2030K calved great on our 1 calf heifers. Bull calves average birthweight is 75 lbs. Heifer calves is 68 lbs.
KEEP UPDATED WITH OUR RANCH

A walking bull at our place purchased from Merit Cattle Co. We purchased this bull for his super strong maternal pedigree. Insight, Range Boss, Tiger on the topside. Countess, Rosebud, Flora on the bottom side. Dam Countess 8114F had a very good grade from me when touring the Merit cow herd. The paternal sires dam is once again Flora 6078D. There will be no surprises of what the female progeny will look like with all these great females stacked in 2047K’s pedigree. The bulls off of 2047K are all stamped the same, soft made, soggy middle, big topped, big hipped, hairy, good headed bulls. Take a good look at this sire group! Bull calves average birthweight is 87 lbs. Heifer calves is 79 lbs.

GDAR INSIGHT 7201
6078D
BAR-H CORA 34F
A walking bull purchased from Merit Cattle Co. that now struts his stuff around the ranch! 3088L has 2 extra ribs for length, as deep flanked and big middled as any bull we have found. Super disposition, excellent footed, hairy, big nutted, and has that extra ease of flesh for sure, not many holes in this herd sire. 3088L’s sire is Merit Intent 37H, the dam once again is Flora 6078D, this cow just cranks out herd bulls after herd bull! Steer calves that will weigh up, and the daughters will be in the keeper pen. Maternal and performance in this one! Bull calves average birthweight is 86 lbs. Heifer calves average birthweight is 80 lbs.

Sire MERIT INTENT 37H

A walking bull at the ranch purchased from Merit Cattle Co. 2071K was a selection at their 2023 sale by us for the exceptional foot that 2071K walked on. Excellent heel, straight toes, and great leg structure makes him travel like a cat.2071K’s grand dams udder is exceptional as well. 2071K’s progeny are soft made, easy fleshing, big hipped cattle. A real nice sire group out of 2071K. Bull calves average birthweight is 85 lbs. Heifer calves is 80 lbs.

MC CUMBERTREMENDOUS 2008
MISS WIX 7126 OF MC CUMBER
A walking bull we purchased from McCumber Angus Ranch. A calving ease bull with a ton of performance. An incredibly beautiful head on this bull, with as much style, rib capacity and ease of flesh as you will find in a herd bull. We purchased this bull because of his maternal greatness, quoted from the footnotes in their catalog “ 1169 represents well what our program is all about. Stacking as many top cows into the pedigree as possible. It can’t get much better than this here.” Multiple, multiple donor cows on both the top and bottom side of his pedigree. And the other neat thing is we seen 5 of the 6 cows in the front of 1169’s pedigree on the ground at their ranch. Bull calves average birthweight is 83 lbs. Heifer calves is 78 lbs.
