Welcome to the 2026 Gandy Angus Annual Yearling Bull Sale
Thank you for picking up this catalogue. This year marks Kim’s 40th year breeding registered Angus — and whether you’ve been buying bulls from us for most of those years or this is your first look at what we’re doing at Diamond Tree, we’re glad you’re here.
Our homebred bull, All In Q202 has continued to impress in ASBP Cohort 13 Benchmarking Trial against 27 well known Australian bulls and AI sires. 660 progeny were analysed and 279 head processed for full carcass assessment and Q202’s results in one of the most comprehensive and commercially relevant progeny tests are outstanding.
He ranked #1 for 5 traits -
#1-400-Day Weight, #1- 600-Day Weight, #1 - Carcase Weight, #1 for Net Feed Efficiency
#1 for MSA Ossification
#2 for 200-day weight, Docility and Foot Angle
#6 for Claw and EMA scan
And #7 for MSA Index
Combining growth that pays with top eating quality. These results give us confidence in what we have built over the 40 years and where our breeding sits amongst Australia’s best.
We are particularly pleased with these results as Gandy (Diamond One) All in Q202 is a son of our homebred bull Diamond Tree All in N129 who is still performing in our herd with daughters such as Q226, the dam of Lot 3 in this catalogue. We are commencing this 40th year with an incredibly strong lineup for our yearling sale. The bulls in this catalogue have more growth, more muscle, and more consistency than any other. The headline is Basin Jameson. His sons are offered in Australia for the first time in this catalogue, and we couldn’t be more excited about them. They have been performing incredibly well in the US - that rare combination of frame and carcase that’s hard to find in one package. We’ve watched these bulls develop from calves and they’ve done nothing but impress us. They’re thick, smooth, easy-doing cattle with the figures to match.
Alongside Jameson, we’re also offering the first Australian sons of Kenny Rogers — another US sire bringing top 15% growth with top 10% EMA and exceptional docility. Two more brand new sires feature Stellpflug RiseAbove and Schiefelbein Yellowstone.
Then there’s our proven performers and homebred sons of Man in Black, Paratrooper and Realist who are more than holding their own. Gandy Man in Black U120 is in the next ASBP Cohort. This line up needs to be seen and we’d love you to come and see these bulls before sale day. Our Open Day is Wednesday March 18 at Diamond Tree — a chance to walk through the bulls and see what’s on offer. Inspections are also welcome anytime by arrangement.
In the catalogue you will see some bulls marked suitable for heifers, we believe many more of these bulls are suitable for heifers. We use up to +5.5 BWT for our heifers because as more herds breed for lower birthweights the average birthweight EBV falls and the range narrows. There is only about a 1kg difference between a +3 for birth and +7. Any bull landing outside of this tight range becomes an outlier and is moved to the extremes of the birthweight EBV.
Thank you for your interest, Kim and Lex

CARING FOR YOUR NEW BULL
Respect your bulls, and handle them quietly, walk them rather than rushing them. Treat them with care and in a gentle manner and they will do likewise to you. A bull leaving Diamond Tree is leaving the security of the mob and will arrive in a strange environment at the purchaser’s property. Unload him and make sure he has a steer or cow as a companion straight away, if you can’t put him out into the mob immediately.
A young bull can move in with older bulls and settle in well, but remember, being the youngest, he will get the last of any feed available, due to the pecking order. The paddock needs to be reasonably large so he can keep away from the others and find adequate feed.
Young bulls are still growing fast and need enough feed to maintain their growth pattern and be able to settle with the cows quickly and efficiently.
Diamond Tree bulls are all injected with 7in1 vaccine (for protection against leptospirosis, pulpy kidney disease, tetanus, blackleg, black disease and malignant oedema) twice at 3 months of age, at a six weekly interval and then they receive a booster as a yearling. A booster injection of Ultravac 7in1 must be given every 12 months to maintain immunity.
When the bull is finished with the cows for the season we suggest he should be drenched and injected with vitamin B12 with selenium. Regular injections of B12 with selenium and drenching will help ensure the ongoing health of your bull.
These bulls will handle approximately 50 cows on their own, or can go in with 100 cows after a good artificial insemination programme.
Diamond Tree bulls are used to being handled with vehicles, four wheeler motorbikes and by stockman on foot. The fences are electrified and the bulls treat them with respect.
You must always keep a regular watch over your bull when he is out with the cows, as accidents can happen. Every day he is not working will cost you dollars. During the mating season, boundary riding should include the observation of bulling cows, and the bull serving. This is easy because the cows will group together, have full bags of milk and will be followed by male calves.
If the bull does not behave in a normal manner serving, he must be replaced immediately. If a cow has been served before the observer arrives, the bull may not repeat the performance. It has been noted that bulls can simply scratch their penis on dry manure on a cow’s backside, infection can set in and a very large and alarming looking appendage can form. If treated quickly and efficiently this can be remedied.
Our veterinary advice is that a suspected broken penis is often just an infection and if observed straight away can be treated and cured.
When the season is finished, the bull should be drenched and put away with enough feed in front of him. Adequate feed will help stop fighting and help the bull settle into the bull group.
Always be considerate to your bull and handle him with respect. You will find you will receive this respect back from him.
