He walked down the stage with his hand clenched, a wide smile stretching ac-ross his face as sweat dripped from his forehead, the glaring spotlights hitting his eyes
The words echoed in his mind "Do your best today, because doing your best is the best preparation " He inhaled deeply, beamed at the audience, and poured his heart out on stage Strutting with poise, his eyes gleamed with determination, and the harsh comments he had received seemed to fade away
That night, he was crowned the first-ever "Lakan it Libertad "
His heart raced; the weight of the crown paled in comparison to the challenges he had faced He grinned at the audience, beaming from ear to ear as he clutched the trophy in his hands He had made the right decision to join, and despite having no extensive pageant experience, he had won
In the shining spotlight, embodying chivalry, gallantry, intelligence, and charm, stands Christian Josh Malic-se, the newly crowned and first-ever "Lakan it Libertad " Behind this spotlight lies a compelling story of courage, determination, and resilience, a crown earned and cherished
Christian had no prior experience in pageants, but he firmly believed that true growth comes from stepping outside one’s comfort zone From the moment he decided to enter the competition, he was aware that this journey would not only build his confidence but also foster significant personal development
No one pressured him to join, instead, he was fueled by an eagerness to embrace new challenges and experiences he had never tried before An opportunity A challenge A stage to grow When he first heard about the Lakan pageant, he was intrigued by the opportunity it presented As a proud
Libertadnon, he found inspiration in the idea that young men were given a platform to showcase their potential
What truly motivated him to compete was the chance to inspire others to take positive action and to embrace the Banigan culture, a heritage that deserved recognition and preservation
Preparing for the pageant was not easy for him
Balancing academic responsibilities, personal commitments, the tough training required, and time management Every free moment became an opportunity to practice, whether it was refining his walk, improving communication skills, or preparing for the questionand-answer segment His journey in the Lakan pageant was filled with challenges, but each one became an opportunity for personal development
Pride Responsibility Legacy
Being crowned as the first-ever Lakan of Libertad was a moment of immense pride and gratitude It was more than just a title, it was a responsibility and an opportunity to pave the way for future generations Knowing that he was stepping into a role that had never been done before, he made the victory even more meaningful This achievement symbolized his commitment to inspiring others and preserving the legacy of the "Banig" culture
Criticism Growth Advocacy
Criticism is a part of any success, but he understands that how one responds to it reflects true character He acknowledges that not everyone may support or agree with his journey, but instead of being discouraged, he uses criticism as motivation to keep pushing forward For him, every piece of feedback, whether positive or negative, serves as a stepping stone toward continuous selfimprovement
His goal is to be remembered as someone who embodies the essence of a brighter Libertad, a representative of young men championing their small town and an advocate for cultural preservation He aspires to inspire future generations by encouraging them to take pride in their heritage and contribute to their community
Christian's commitment to his advocacy does not end with the pageant, and he has a clear vision of turning his words into reality by inspiring the youth to learn the art of banig weaving, modernizing designs while maintaining cultural integrity, and promoting sustainable practices within the community He believes that through these efforts, Libertad can shine even brighter, with woven mats serving as symbols of both tradition and progress
Motivation Strength Inspiration.
None of his achievements would have been possible without the unwavering support of those who stood by him His parents, handler, coordinator, and friends "Alfreds Company" and "Casi Ding Boarders" played a cru-cial role in lifting his spirit and morale throughout the journey Their encouragement, guidance, and belief in his potential gave him the strength to persevere
As he looks ahead, he carries with him the lessons, memories, and responsibili-ties of being Libertad’s first Lakan But for him, this is just the beginning His journey continues a journey of growth, culture, and inspi-ration
The crown he wore was not merely a symbol of victory but a testament to his dedication and perseverance
"Always believe in yourself, take the journey with courage and always look up for your dreams," Christian Josh Malicse, Lakan it Libertad 2025

ulture, an untold, yet widespread story defining our origin True But endangered by our own new found interest almost forgotten and cast aside
Libertad, a town where the mountains meet the sea A place where culture strives to be known Home to the banig weavers, who indulge in the natural treasures found within it's land Its rich heritage and people expert in crafting bariwbased products led them to be known for their uniqueness and talents
With the bariw leaves found in its soil, Libertadnons found their very own livelihood A livelihood where they can craft ideas, weave talents, and become prominent The weavers residing in the town find a sense of pride in learning and preserving their identity from a tender age They inherited the hard work and memories of their ancestors through the untold story held
by the bariw leaves
Just like making 'banig' , Libertadnons also embrace its process as a reflection of their lives Making it a way to identify themselves As they 'Rasras', a process of gathering bariw leaves from its tree, they also draw inspiration and determination from their land As they cut the leaves off with gentle precision, they bring forth new ideas to promote their simple, yet colorful lives in the small town
Binding their history together and uniting themselves through the process called 'Hutlog' in which they tie the leaves to become one, taking it home to craft not only something new but also a new story to inspire others
Starting in this rustic land, the weavers of Libertad were born to continue their legacy and preserve its culture Though life is difficult
because they only earn a small income from this craft, they found hope and reasons to carry on the tradition
As time passed, various ideas and products were created ranging from mats to bags, lampshades, and even formal wear
The Libertadnon weavers showcased their talents in their utmost efforts to promote their livelihood This is to prove that although a bariw is a native product simple and plain but with innovation, patience, and creativity, it can be transformed into the most beautiful pieces, unlike anything found elsewhere
This is to prove that although a bariw is a native product simple and plain but with innovation, patience, and creativity, it can be transformed into the most beautiful pieces, unlike anything found elsewhere
There may be hindrances Various
thorns may stop them and hinder their way as the fast-paced world changes, but Libertadnons still stand united in order to keep their identity and their legacy alive Just like 'Riras', where they cut off the thorns on the bariw leaves, they lend each other a hand to keep this tradition alive and thriving Letting it rest under the sun reveals its true color, including the brown hues, allowing its beauty to be appreciated The people of this town live simple yet determined lives
As they encounter obstacles along their path, much like the process they call 'Palpag', Libertadnons find a way to flatten their burdens, just as they do in 'Hilad' And like 'Likid', where they soften the bariw leaves, they learn to ease their struggles and move forward
Similar to 'Buntay', where the leaves are softened more thoroughly, the townspeople do not stop at just one process
They find ways to ensure their success and move forward so that when they encounter obstacles again just like 'Palpag' they can push them aside and lighten their burdens Much like how they cut the bariw leaves in proper sizes called 'Kulhad', they adapt, persevere, and continue living their lives, ready to weave a new tale
As they start creating bariw made products through the practice called 'Kuyapis', where they bind together the bariw leaves in order to start creating something new, Libertadnons similarly work hand in hand to preserve its currently wavering tradition Later on, much like the process called 'Taytay' where they continue weaving till they are able to make

something new and start the phase of 'Rara' or weaving, the weavers continue to embrace and hold on to this culture with unending hope that it may be preserved even as time changes
As they complete the creation of bariwbased products, Libertadnons remain committed to their craft, paying attention to even the finest details They express their beliefs in their own way much like a method they call 'Sapay' or 'Hurip', carefully shaping each piece Just like in 'Gutab' , where excess material is trimmed to preserve the product’s beauty, they refine their work with precision and purpose
Although this rich culture is loved and appreciated, the efforts of its weavers
are only now being recognized, and bariw-based products have come to represent the identity of the Libertadnons
However, this tradition still faces the risk of being forgotten, as the new generation of Libertadnons loses interest, seemingly lost in the world of technology They forget that the bariw is the heart of their identity, a symbol of the contributions their ancestors made in the town of Libertad They forget that weaving is the strength that binds Libertadnons as one something they, too, must learn to promote and preserve, for it is a part of them
Banig weaving is more than just a craft it is the soul of
Libertad Each woven strand carries the untold stories of its people, a testament to their resilience and heritage This tradition is not merely a relic of the past; it is a living, breathing identity that connects generations As time moves forward, Libertadnons must not forget to look back at its glory To honor the hands that wove their history and to ensure that the legacy of 'Pagrara' continues to thrive For in every bariw leaf lies the spirit of Libertad, woven into its past, present, and future
