Local Tim Hortons owners, Kim and Randy Schmitz, presented a check for over $3000 to the Boys & Girls Club of Eden on Wednesday, December 2. The Schmitz family has developed and organized Eden’s annual Tim Hortons 5K Coffee Run for the past four years to benefit the Club and the Breast Cancer Network of WNY. The proceeds of the race are donated to these two organizations to support their ongoing programs and operations. Maguda To Retire from Eden Library
The Eden Library Board of Trustees announces the retirement of long-time library director Joyce Maguda. She joined the Eden Library in 2006 after working for many years as the children’s’ librarian at the Orchard Park Library. Mrs. Maguda also worked at various positions at the libraries in Hamburg, Lakeshore, Blasdell and Orchard Park. For two years prior to that she was the librarian at Eden’s GLP Elementary School. A graduate of Fredonia State, she received her MLS degree from the University at Buffalo. During her time with the Buffalo and Erie County Public Library system, Mrs. Maguda initiated many new programs including toddler time, craft programs, bingo, author talks and more. Within the library system she served on various committees including being the Battle of the Books question chairperson for almost ten years and serving on the Children’s Book Selection Committee. The Library Board will host a reception at the library on Monday, December 21 from 6 to 8 p.m. in honor of Mrs. Maguda’s retirement. The public is invited to attend. ___________

Eden Community Foundation Announces Grants
The Eden Community Foundation has just announced its Fall grants. The Eden/North Collins Food Pantry will receive money for furnishings for their new building, which is expected to be constructed in 2016. They serve over 130 families, including 47 from Eden, twice each month. The grant they will receive will also help to furnish an office area. The Eden Chamber of Commerce received a grant that will help to replace the roof on the building that houses their chicken BBQ during the Corn Festival and is used for other events. The Eden Community Garden is a new initiative that is expected to begin with this year’s growing season. Located at the GLP School it will provide a learning experience for students. The grant they received will help to get this program established and up and running. The Eden Central School Art Department will receive funding that will help to frame outstanding student artwork that is recognized in the Superintendent's Art Collection. It is hoped that with better framing it will be possible for this artwork to travel and be displayed at businesses in the community. With community help we can make more dollars available to local groups. Please consider a donation to the Eden Community Foundation. New York State’s Agricultural Districts Law is an effective tool for maintaining and cataloguing lands involved in agricultural production. It recognizes that agricultural lands are one of the State’s most important resources, and that they are in jeopardy of being lost due to increasing costs of doing business, as well as development pressures. Erie County’s Department of Environment and Planning administers this law and the subsequent programs at the local level, helping the local farming community enrolled in these agricultural districts receive important “right-to-farm” protections. The Department of Environment and Planning will open the 30-day public comment period regarding the ongoing 8-year review of Agricultural Districts 2, 4, 8, 9, and 15W on December 21, 2015 and it will close on January 20, 2016. In an effort to streamline the process and effectively manage the Agricultural District program, the County also intends to consolidate all Agricultural District parcels from the above-mentioned districts into the existing Agricultural District 8 (Collins). The new consolidated district will encompass the Towns of Collins, North Collins, Brant, Evans, Eden, Hamburg, and parts of Orchard Park and Boston.
