"Eden Goes Wild" at Boys & Girls Club’s Bash for Cash
On Saturday, November 7, 180 people turned out to support the Boys and Girls Club of Eden’s most important fundraiser, the 12th annual Bash for Cash dinner and auction. In keeping with the theme of Go Wild, Bash guests dressed in animal print, safari, and jungle inspired costumes and clothing, enjoyed mingling under the canopy of the giant trees, and sidled up to the bar that was given a special bamboo awning for the night. Isabelle Wray, the Club’s 2014-15 Rising Star, made a short appearance after dinner, to talk about her experiences as a Club member. Explaining that she began attending the Club as a 9-year-old during the 12-13 school year, Isabelle shared the initial reason she joined: "My parents work and my sisters and I needed a place to go after school." She then went on to describe the many benefits she has received from attending the Club, including how she first discovered her love of football there, when she began playing flag football during the fall and spring. "I started playing flag football at the Club and now I play for the modified team at the high school, where I am the only female player.” During the live auction, volunteer auctioneer Robin Evenhouse invited guests to raise their paddles to donate to the Club’s scholarship program. The Boys & Girls Club is committed to being available to all youth, regardless of financial situation, which means that some children from low-income families attend the Club for free or reduced cost. Currently, the Club provides scholarships to just under 30% of its members. Throughout the live auction, guests donated over $3,500 for the scholarship program, which provides Club memberships for 18 youth!

Unity Day
On October 21, North Collins students participated in “Unity Day.” This is a day that is part of a national annual “Be Good To Each Other" campaign asking students and staff to UNITE together and TAKE A STAND AGAINST BULLYING, UNITED for Kindness, Acceptance and Inclusion. As part of this important day, students listened to a powerful message during an assembly presented by youth motivational speaker, Molly Kennedy. This message focused on raising awareness; inspiring and educating students on the power of their choices--learning to respect yourself and others around you while showing empathy for differences. Other activities involved students wearing orange as a statement of support for “make it orange, make bullying end”, sending a message of hope, support, and unity. Students also made an orange link of chains that each students signed as part of a pledge to do their part in making our school a kind, caring place to be. TOGETHER FOR HUMANITY!
North Collins All County Music Festival Participants
North Collins students in Grades 7-12 participated in Veterans Day by writing notes of appreciation and baking Cookies for these brave veterans. A NC student who volunteers regularly at a homeless shelter for vets in Buffalo, brought the idea to Mrs. Ward in our Guidance Office. Notes and Cookies for Veterans
In March, some of the best elementary musicians will combine their love of music at the All County Music Festival. Several hundred students across Erie County will join together performing in bands, orchestras and choirs to celebrate music in our schools. Representing North Collins are Kathleen Smith, Sophia Vanstrom, Katelyn Hofner and Nicole Downes. To prepare, the girls spend many hours after school learning the music, often in different languages. They will then travel to Sweet Home Middle School for more hours of rehearsals for their final performance at Kleinhan's Music Hall. Donald J. Toland
Donald J. Toland, of Eden, NY, age 65, passed away peacefully after a lengthy
battle with cancer, and with his loving companion, Kathy Roberts by his side on Friday, November 20, 2015. He was born in Buffalo, NY. He was a son of Hugh and Nellie (White) Toland. Don was the proud Owner of Don’s Auto Wrecking in Eden, New York for the past years. He will be remembered for his love of racing late model cars, Endurance Racing and the Erie County Demolition Derby; where he drove and later was a flagman. He had a special place in his heart for animals. He was known as a hard-working man, often working from sun up to sun down. Loving com-
panion of Kathy Roberts for 25 years; Father figure to Thomas (Michelle), Brian and Scott (Deena) Roberts; Brother of Beverly Boring and late Skip Toland; Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Lloyd Ralph Schreiner
Lloyd Ralph Schreiner, formerly of Hamburg, NY, passed away November 16, 2015 at age 85. Born to Mable and Joseph in 1930, he was the youngest
of 4 boys. Predeceased by brothers Philip, Harold and Charles. Lloyd leaves behind his wife of 38 years, Marguerite; Daughters, Joanne (Bill) Dobler, Janet (Dave) Evans, and Son, Jeffrey (Susan); Step Children Mike, Teri, Dan and Mikki; Grandchildren and Great- Grandchildren. After graduation from Hamburg High School in 1947, Lloyd began his lifelong career as a carpenter after 3 years in the Marines. He was a foreman for Hines and Kirst Construction and Ciminelli Construction Co. He independently built several homes in the Eden area and the altar at St. Mary’s in
East Eden. After retiring in 1989, he moved to Florida. He enjoyed playing euchre and working in his woodshop. He would visit WNY at least twice a year where he would visit friends and go deer hunting. Lloyd was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all those whose lives he touched.
