The Boys and Girls Club of Lake Shore is proud to announce Jaylene Baron and Samuel Martinez as September’s Members of the Month. Each month, Club Staff select members that are trustworthy, respectful, responsible, fair, caring, and good citizens at the Club. In addition to having positive character values, the MOTM should participate in a variety of the programs offered at the Club such as sports, games, Daily Challenges, Arts & Crafts, Power Hour and Project Learn, Cooking Club, Library & Nature Clubs, etc. Jaylene was chosen for MOTM because she is always in good spirits and truly enjoys helping out the staff, often without being called upon to do so. Jaylene is polite and courteous, and a staple of the Club. She is in third grade at A.J. Schmidt Elementary, Mrs. Ware is her favorite teacher, and she really likes math class. At the Club, Jaylene enjoys working on arts and crafts projects with Miss Mickey. When she’s at home, you are most likely to find Jaylene playing with her prized stuffed animals. When it comes to books, she is a fan of “Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark,” and her favorite current song is “Stitches” by Shawn Mendes. Jaylene’s role models are Miss Emily and Mr. Justin from the Club, and when she grows up she would like to work here too!
The Lake Shore Central Schools Regular Board of Education meeting scheduled for Tuesday, October 20, 2015 has been moved to THURSDAY, OCTOBER 22, 2015 AT 7 P.M. in the Sr. High Media Center.
Samuel is in first grade at J.T. Waugh Elementary where he likes gym and Mrs. Whipple. It comes as no surprise that his favorite thing to do at the Club is help the staff with various tasks. Away from the Club, Samuel likes to play Minecraft, and his favorite song is “God’s Not Dead.” He is also a big fan of the “Pete the Cat” books. Samuel’s role models are police officers, and when he grows up he would like to join the Navy. Samuel is extremely polite and well-mannered to staff and kids alike, especially for his young age. Each day he arrives to the Club with a noticeable sense of excitement and joy, and whenever the staff needs a hand he is there to help with tremendous optimism. As a first-year member, Samuel has been a welcome addition to our Club family.
Along with the Members of the Month is the Club’s Student of the month, Jasmine Carter. Jasmine is one of our everyday members and is adamant about getting her homework done while at the Club. Jasmine leads the homework room with the most “Power Hour Points” for completing assignments and educational activities, but still manages to squeeze in plenty of other fun Club offerings. One of her top activities she likes at the Club is arts and crafts. When she’s not at the Club she likes playing with her friends. Jasmine is currently in 5th grade at A.J. Schmidt Elementary where Mrs. Kauzala is her favorite teacher and role model, and she likes art class. Jeff Kinney is her favorite author and “Stitches” by Shawn Mendes is her favorite tune. Lions Donate to Christmas Basket Fund
The Evans Township Lions Club, at their regular twice monthly meeting, donated $500.00 to the V.F.W Post 5798 Christmas Food Basket Fund drive. Each year at Christmas time, the V.F.W. distributes over 150 food baskets to needy families in the Evans/Brant area. The Lions club has historically supported this effort with monetary donations. Anyone who knows of a needy family, should contact the V.F.W. Post Commander or Quartermaster directly.

APPOMATTOX SURRENDER AT EVANS HISTORICAL SOCIETY
Alvin Parker, in April 2015, took part in the official 150th Anniversary of the surrender of General Robert E. Lee at the Appomattox Courthouse in Virginia. Al portrayed his ancestor, Lt. Colonel Ely Parker, (Native American Seneca) who was a military secretary to Lt. General Ulysses S. Grant. Ely Parker drafted the formal document of surrencer that General Lee signed.
The public is invited to hear more of this historical event when Al Parker portrays Ely Parker at the October 26 meeting of the Evans Historical Society. Mr. Parker will dress in clothing reflecting the times, will tell the story of his ancestor’s role in ending the Civil War.
Mrs. Shirley Pfalzgraf, Director of the Historical Society, who had attended a previous presentation by Mr. Parker, mentioned the program will be fascinating and very informative.
The program will include a power point presentation and will be held Monday evening, the 26th at 7 p.m. in the Historical Society’s museum on Route 5 in Evans Center. Admission is free and refreshments will be served.

• “The Town neglected to reconcile its monthly bank statements for the entire year.”
Because the bank accounts were not reconciled, the Town’s true financial condition could not be determined – so the auditor would not give an opinion.
Why didn’t Mr. Dash require this be done before the audit? Result: the Evans taxpayers have paid for an audit without an opinion.
• “…during the year ended December 31, 2014; certain line item expenditures exceeded the authorized line item budget.”
Mr. Dash’s failure to monitor the budget in a timely manner is leading to further budget problems. Over-expenditures are a violation of New York State’s Town Law!
The Town needs someone to mind the store!
NYS COMPTROLLER AUDIT:
• When the NYS Comptroller discussed their audit findings, Mr. Dash claims he was kept in the dark. The Evans taxpayers cannot afford a leader who doesn’t try to understand the financial impact before voting on spending. Or who constantly blames others. Mary Hosler will be a leader who accepts responsibility, rolls up her sleeves, and does the work that is needed to solve our problems.
• Supervisor Dash stated he took over a financial disaster when he took office in 2012. Really? Mr. Dash served on the Town Board since 2008. That makes him part of that financial disaster.
MORE PROBLEMS:
• New York State mandates that the Town of Evans file an Annual Update Document within 90 days of the close of the fiscal year.
This Document reports all town financial data including revenue, expenditures and debt service activities.
During Mr. Dash’s tenure as Supervisor, the Town has not filed this report (not in 2012, 2013, nor 2014). Result: an ongoing investigation by the NYS Comptroller.

Angola Public Library’s 2015 Summer Reading Contest
Summer is the perfect occasion to spend some time with a good book. To encourage a love of books and reading, the Angola Public Library sponsored a contest for children. Colorful bookmarks were given to the children to be brought with them each time they visited the library. If they check out a book they recieved a sticker; after four stickers were collected each child won a small prize. Their completed bookmark was placed in a drawing for a larger prize. The winner of this summer’s contest is four year old Jayden West. Jayden came into the library many times during the summer to take out books. His diligence and enthusiasm worked to win him a bag full of fun prizes. Contributed by The Angola Public Library
