Evans Force 12U Finished with Strong Showing in Final 2 Tournaments The Evans Force 12U softball team finished their 2014 season with tournaments at North Buffalo and Xtreme. They started with the North Buffalo tournament and faced Cheektowaga Crabapples. The Force trailed 8-5 in the fourth and scored 3 in the bottom of the seventh but just fell short in a 9-8 loss. Jessica Beehler and Kymi Nance had 2 hits while Sam Dils, Alaina Torres, Ravyn Issacs and Caitlin Burbige added hits with Burbige getting 4 RBI. Next in a strong pitching performance Evie Butlak strikes out 9 leading the Force to a 3-2 victory over the Niagara Thunderwolves. Evie and Kymi Nance got doubles while Sam Dils and Caitlin Burbige got the only other hits for the Force. Because of rain the game with the North Buffalo wildcats was moved to Sunday. Strong pitching by Evie Butlak helped the Force open with a 9-1 lead and coast to a 9-5 win. Evie Butlak got 2 hits and the Force also got hits from Caitlin Burbige, Savanah Clear and Ravyn Issacs. Next a rematch with the Crabapples resulted in the Force winning 10-4. Evie Butlak scattered only 6 hits and got 3 hits including a triple helped by Kymi Nance 3 run home
run. Sam Dils and Ravyn Issacs each got singles while Caitlin Burbige, Savanah Clear and Allison Smith each hitting doubles with Alison the spark plug that started a 6 run third inning. Next was the semi finals against Niagara Thunderwolves. Kymi Nance had a game that will long be remembered. Kymi went 5 for 6 hitting for the cycle getting 5 runs and 7 RBI. She would have had 6 runs and 8 RBI if she had not stumbled rounding third on what would have been a second home run. Evans needed all those runs in a 20-15 marathon game. Evie Butlak also had a good game at the plate getting 3 hits including back to back triples. Jessica Beehler, Caitlin Burbige, Savanah Clear, Grace Barker, Ravyn Issacs and Allison Smith added hits. The team seem to rally around teammate Allison Smith who left the game with a hurt wrist. However the Force were out of gas as they played a well rested Sting team in the finals. The Sting won the championship with a 12-3 win. Kymi Nance continued with her hot bat with a 2 run home run and Evie Butlak got the Force's only other hit. Evie too was out of gas pitching four complete games on Sunday
with 2 complete games on Saturday. The last tournament of the year was the Xtreme Summer Madness. Short on players the Force joined "forces" with 4 players from the WNY Rally. The first game was against the Webster Xtreme, The Force opened the game with Evie Butlak hitting the second pitch of the game for a home run. Sam Dils had 4 RBI but it was not enough as Webster who were trailing 8-3 came back to win 10-8. in the next game Tabitha Allen and Kymi Nance had 2 hits each to lead the Force to a 9-5 victory over the Hamburg Xtreme. Evie Butlak allowed only 2 hits and struck out 8 to record her 20th pitching win of the season. In the next game, Sam Dils had 3 hits and 3 RBI and the game winning RBI to lead the Force to a 8-7 win over Lou Gehrig Lazers. The final game saw the Force lose a heart breaker to the Webster Xtreme 7-6. Tabitha Allen and Kymi Nance had 2 hits each and Evie Butlak scored 3 times with a double. Grassia; dear mother of Cheryl and Michael (Sandy) Grassia; dear “granny’ of Christopher; sister of Joan Accordino and the late Gloria Etopio and Michael Accordino; survived by many nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Thursday July 24 at Most Precious Blood Church, Angola. Virginia was an avid Bills, Sabres and Yankees fan. those who attended memorial services were asked to wear her favorite teams’ attire in her honor. Flowers gratefully declined. Evans Dog Park Construction Underway
The Town of Evans is going to the dogs – literally. The Town is currently in the process of constructing a dog park in the area adjacent to the Town Hall. The Town of Evans Dog Park is scheduled to open to the public sometime in August. The dog park will provide a place for the fourlegged residents of Evans to run free, play and meet new friends. The dog park will contain a 150’ x 100’ fenced in area of dedicated green space consisting of two sections, one for small dogs and one for large dogs. The park will also include obstacles and toys for the dogs to play with. The dog park will be open everyday from dawn to dusk. “I am very excited about this new facility to add to the Town of Evans recreational amenities. This is a quality of life addition for people with dogs in our community. They now have a safe dedicated space to exercise and socialize,” said Supervisor Keith Dash. The Evans dog park would not have been made possible without the generous donation of fencing from Lads Pet Supplies or the tenacity of Lake Shore Business and Finance Academy graduate Megan Scritchfield. Megan took on the project last year when she served an internship in the Town of Evans Office of Community Development. Megan, along with the Evans Paw Park Advisory Committee worked tirelessly raising funds and preparing for the park. “The idea came at the request of a local resident who inquired about the possibility of a dog park in Evans. After receiving encouragement from Supervisor Dash, we made it Megan’s project and she ran with it far exceeding our expectations,” said Community Development Director Lori Szewczyk. Caitlin Brodfuehrer of Derby took part in an off-campus internship this summer through SUNY Oswego's Experience-Based Education program. A senior majoring in broadcasting and mass communication, she interned with Buffalo Sabres Hockey in Buffalo. The Experience-Based Education program at Oswego places students in internships and career awareness opportunities that allow them to earn college credits while garnering valuable life experience. Last year, more than a thousand Oswego students took part in experiential learning while working at hundreds of businesses, nonprofit agencies and government offices, not counting the hundreds of student teachers working in area schools. Evans Force U-10 Tournament Team
The Evans Force U-10 tournament softball team celebrated their season with a banquet along with the other Evans Force softball teams. The team had a great reason to celebrate after winning the WNY Dunkirk/Silver Creek Tournament in Silver Creek on July 11th. Evans defeated Dunkirk 14 to 8, Cassadaga Valley 6 to 2 and Silver Creek in the championship game 18 to 13. The Evans Force team included the following players: Abbey Hanes, Allysa Chaplin, Grace DeGroat, Ella Rosborough, Maddie Lockwood, Emma Langdon, Emma Rozborski, Paige Silagyi, Jenna Martin, Kate Dimartino, Laurie Ald, Sam Hoppel, Liz Jarzynski, Audrianna Torres and Olivia Galvez.
