Marian M Errington 89, of East Eden, lovingly known as "Tootsie", went to rest on Thursday March 19th, 2015, following a brief illness at Mercy Hospital. She was born February 4th, 1926 in Boston NY, the daughter of the late Walter and Mildred (Smith) Gier. She was a devoted catholic who's favorite pastime was Monday night Bingo. Surviving relatives include her husband of 66 years, William Errington, whom she married October 23, 1948, three sons Ronald Errington (South Carolina), William Errington Jr. (Attica, NY), Daniel Errington (Buffalo, NY) and three daughter Edith (Philo) Parkhurst (Conewango Valley, NY), Pauline (Gary) Masters (Irving, NY) and Brenda (Robert) Dillon (South Carolina). Also Surviving are her two sisters Mildred Murray (Florida) and Margie Lockwood (Syracuse, NY), 19 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, along with several cousins, nieces and nephews. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her sister Dorothy Trevett. A catholic mass in her honor was held at Saint John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church at 6895 Boston Cross Road, Boston, NY. A grave side memorial service will be held at a later date. Edward J. Schlierf

Edward J. Schlierf, 89, of Eden, New York, passed Monday, March 23, 2015 with his family by his side. He was born October 23, 1925 in Eden, New York. He was the son of late Andrew F. and Eleanor A. (Fury) Schlierf. He married his loving wife Eleanor Hartman on September 23, 1952 in Angola, New York. They were married for 63 years. Edward served his Country during World War II in the United States Army and then in the New York Air National Guard in the Korean War. Edward was well known for his wooden toy making for over 30 years. He had a toy stand at the Eden Corn Festival for over 20 years; where people would come to buy and marvel at his craftsmanship. He also was a member of the Eden Auxiliary Police Reserves for over 17 years. He enjoyed working in his gardens, especially his roses. He is preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers; Norbert Schlierf, Alan Schlierf, a sister-in-law; Dorothy Schlierf and a brother-in-law; Julius Mattoli. He is survived by his wife Eleanor A. Schlierf, his children; Mary Lou Parham, Cindy (Robert) Caradine and Kenneth (Lynn) Schlierf; his four grandchildren and one great grandchild. Also survived by a brother Andrew Schlierf, a sister Ann Mattoli and sister-in-laws Arlene and Jean Schlierf. Family invited friends to call Thursday, March 26, 2015 from 2-4PM and 7-9PM at the Laing Funeral Home Inc. A funeral service was held Friday, March 27, 2015 at 11:00AM in the funeral home. Boys & Girls Club of Eden Holds Game Night

The Boys & Girls Club held its 8th annual Game Night on Sunday, March 22nd at the Eden Legion. The event was attended by approximately 120 people and hosted by “The Quizmaster,” Dennis George. The night kicked off with Dennis quizzing the audience about a variety of topics including television theme songs, common phrases, the history of toys, and movie quotes. Audience members were also called up to the buzzer to participate in a men vs women Family Feud-style competition. Of course, despite its name, this event is not all fun and games. The 15 registered teams who participated in the evening’s team competition were hungry for a win, including last year’s returning champions, The Clinicians! After several rounds of play, those 15 teams were winnowed down to the final four: Eden Center Cyclones, Kazoo Boutique (sponsored by Kazoo Boutique), the Library Ladies, and the Municipal Maulers. The lightning quick buzzer round sadly eliminated the Library Ladies and the Maulers, leaving Game Night rookies, the Eden Center Cyclones to duke it out with long-time Game Night veterans, Kazoo Boutique. After a final round of intense buzzing and fierce competition, Kazoo Boutique was victorious, taking home the coveted Game Night trophy! The Club would like to thank all the volunteers, teams, and spectators who helped make this event a success. We look forward to running this fun event again next year! __________

April is National Car Care Month: Spring into Action April is National Car Care Month and the Car Care Council reminds motorists to spring into action and follow 10 basic maintenance procedures to make sure their vehicles are running at peak performance for the summer driving season. 1. Check all fluids, including engine oil, power steering, brake and transmission as well as windshield washer solvent and antifreeze/coolant. 2. Check the hoses and belts to make sure they are not cracked, brittle, frayed, loose or showing signs of excessive wear. 3. Check the battery and replace if necessary. Make sure the connection is clean, tight and corrosion-free. 4. Check the brake system annually and have the brake linings, rotors and drums inspected at each oil change. 5. Inspect the exhaust system for leaks, damage and broken supports or hangers if there is an unusual noise. Exhaust leaks can be dangerous & must be corrected without delay. 6. Schedule a tune-up to help the engine deliver the best balance of power and fuel economy and produce the lowest level of emissions. 7. Check the heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) system, as proper heating and cooling performance is critical for interior comfort and for safety reasons such as defrosting. 8. Inspect the steering and suspension system annually including shock absorbers, struts and chassis parts such as ball joints, tie rod ends and other related components. 9. Check the tires, including tire pressure and tread. Uneven wear indicates a need for wheel alignment. Tires should also be checked for bulges and bald spots. 10. Check the wipers and lighting so that you can see and be seen. Check that all interior and exterior lighting is working properly and replace worn wiper blades so you can see clearly when driving during precipitation. “Whether you visit a professional service technician or do it yourself, a thorough vehicle inspection this spring can help keep your car safe and dependable and help you avoid much higher costs down the road.
