Kindergarten Registration for the 2018-2019 School Year Register NOW Parents/guardians of children interested in enrolling in Kindergarten for 2018, can pick up a registration packet at William T. Hoag Educational Center, 42 Sunset Blvd., Angola, NY, 14006. The child must meet the following requirements: • To be enrolled in the September 2018 Kindergarten class, a child living in the Lake Shore Central School district must be four years of age on or before December 1, 2018 pursuant to §7120 of the Lake Shore CSD Policy Manual and NYS Education Department regulations. • Proof of age is required at the time of registration. A birth certificate, baptismal record, or a passport will serve as adequate proof of age. Also, an official record of immunizations and proof of district residency is required for registration. • All immunizations must be acquired by the start of school in September. Students without required immunizations will not be permitted to start school. • Kindergarten Visitation – parents and entering students will be invited to visit classrooms, take a short bus ride and meet the staff before the start of the school year. St. Francis Class of 1968 Celebrates 50th Reunion

On Friday, May 25th 14 members of Class of 1968 came together to celebrate the 50 year anniversary of their graduation from St. Francis High School. The day began with Mass in the school chapel followed by brunch in the Mastrantoni Family Hospitality Suite and a tour of the campus. The day concluded with the class being recognized at the Commencement Exercises for the Class of 2018 at Our Lady of Victory Basilica. Lunch time at the Farnham School in 1952 School Principal Russell Everhart, is at the far left of the photo.

The Farnham Elementary School (also referred to as District 5) was once located on the corner of Erie Road and Commercial Street in Farnham. Last year, our historical society was thrilled to receive a donation of eleven Farnham Elementary School Commencment programs from Diane and Don Mogavero. Don’s dad Sam, had been the custodian at the Farnham school for a number of years. In 1952, the Farnham school was celebrating the 22nd Annual Commencement in the school auditorium. Listed in the 1952 program are the names of 31 students of the 8th grade graduating class: Helen Anthony, Jacqueline Augustine, Mary Ann Catalano, Darmar Christensen, Karen Christensen, David Eastman, Nancy Evans, Bernard Foster, Janet Garlock, Ronald Guest, Frederick Holcomb Jr., Gary Holcomb, Arthur Hurley, Dale John, Janice Knobloch, Charles Kumm, Joan McCleary, Grace Miller, Richard Moriority, Elizabeth Mosier, Robert O’Neill, Nicholas Spratz, Charles Voss, Greg Wagner, Jay White, Henry Wojda and Robert R. Wood. The class President was William Wright and the Vice President was Wilbert Kinsey. The class Secretary was Christine Przepyszny and the Treasurer was Anne Bridges. In addition to the presentation of diplomas and various speeches, there was plenty of entertainment planned for the evening. The school band started off the evening with three selections. Later in the program, Darmar Christensen played an accordion solo entitled Metallo’s “Sharpshooter’s March” and Greg Wagner performed a trumpet solo of “I’m Falling in Love With Someone”. Also during the evening a ”Reward of Merit of $5.00” was presented to a student by the P.T.A. President Mrs. Sidney Smith. As a bittersweet end of the program, but prior to the Benediction by Reverend Howard Guhl, the students of the 8th grade sang their class song, “Beyond the Sunset”. We can only guess that a few of the students listed in the 8th grade program, may be in the above photo waiting to get their school lunch...which, we were told by more than one person… “was homemade and good!” It was also overheard numerous times, that the best cooks of the Farnham School were Laura Totaro and Josephine Battaglia. The State University of New York at Potsdam recently named 855 students to the President’s List, in recognition of their academic excellence in the Spring 2018 semester. The SUNY Potsdam students were honored for earning top marks by President Kristin G. Esterberg. The students included: Shelby Sipos of Lake View, NY, whose major is Music Education Madeline Vail of Irving, NY, whose major is Music Performance To achieve the honor of being on the President’s List, each student must have satisfactorily completed 12 numericallygraded semester hours, with a grade point average of 3.5 or higher.
