With Valentine’s Day approaching here is a great verse on marriage. It was written by God through Peter. Peter was married (see Matthew 8:14). This verse contains perhaps the most beautiful seven word description of marriage ever written: “… heirs together of the grace of life… .” An heir is one who inherits someone else’s property, title, etc. What is his is hers. What is hers is his. The two become one in the marriage bond. Marriage mutually benefits the husband and wife. Together is a word which denotes unselfishness. “… for two, saith he, shall be one flesh.” Each cares about the other and both strive toward having unity and peace in their marriage. Selfishness and pride are enemies of a good marriage. A good marriage is the recipient of the “grace of life.” Grace is God’s benefit and favor toward us. Be humble, helpful, loving, caring, forgiving and peaceful to one another and watch God show his favor on your union.

The Joseph F. Catalano home, on Brant-North Collins Road. This home was once owned by Ansel Smith and was the site of the first Town of Brant organizational meeting held on April 16, 1839.
Through Legislative action, the Town of Brant was formed on March 25, 1839, with land from the townships of Evans and Collins. Brant was so named in honor of Joseph Brant, the famous chief of the Mohawk Indians. Ansel Smith, was one of the earliest settlers to this area, arriving in the year of 1818. He owned a home and land in Lot 21 located on the Brant-North Collins Road between the Morley and Versailles Plank Roads. The first organizational meeting of the Town of Brant was held in his home on April 16th, 1839. Jonathan Hascall, Jr., Otis Burgess and Stephen West were the inspectors, and Ansel Smith was the clerk. At this meeting, the following were elected as the first town of Brant officers: Jonathan Hascall Jr., supervisor, Moses White, clerk, Asa Wetherbee and John B. Steadwell, assessors; Patterson Kerr, collector; Reuben Fisk and Francis Pierce, commissioners of schools; Webster Balcom, overseer of the poor; A.D. Winslow and Lewis Varney, inspectors of schools; Patterson Kerr, William Stetson, Stubel Cross and B. Carpenter, constables; Shadrach Sherman, town sealer; Kester Tracy, Salmon Hawley and Harrison Maybee, justices of the peace. This same residence, the first town hall of Brant, later became the home of Joseph F. Catalano and family, and today remains owned by descendants of Joseph F. Catalano. Happy 64th Birthday, Michael! (Yes, I’ll still love you when you’re 64!)
is a song recorded by Rick Astley, which reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 on the 18th of June 1988- 3 days later was my 32nd birthday! Little did I know, that song would "set the stage" for my future. I started dating Michael Grant March 13th, 1988. I swore I'd never date a Doctor--my career as an operating room nurse had taught me to be very skeptical of the scrupulousness of "such a breed!" I also had "NO" intentions of ever getting married or settling down---My motto was "NO TIES...NO COMMITMENTS." I had worked with "Dr. Grant" for almost 3 years - Not only was he a spectacular technician in his field of orthopaedics he was a gentleman ... and most importantly, he made me laugh. It was always a joy to work with him - he was meticulous in his work...and he was never "inappropriate." So, you can imagine the shock when he called the Operating Room on my shift to ask, "What decadent bar my girlfriend & I were hanging out at" that night - and would I mind if he joined us? But his reputation was quickly restored when I later found out his wife had "kicked him to the curb" because she was having "relations" with her 2nd cousin!! And that's where my life began- The task at hand was to repair a "broken heart" --- never knowing that "GOD" had sent me a gift" - "HE" was repairing the lives of 2 people - Michael & myself. My mother embraced this man because "someone" was finally able to "settle her little girl down." And "settle" he did - 9 years later I was married and expecting a child (yes, the girl who also swore she'd never have children!!) Low & behold- the birth of Richard Michael Grant- March 2, 1997. The most precious gift of our lives. "GOD" obviously knew my limitations because HE bestowed upon me the "perfect child" who has now become the "exemplary adult." Richard has been blessed with my Mother's soul - he is respectable, thoughtful, kind & loving. Michael & I could not be more proud of the man Richard has become. These 2 men are my “entire” world ... “TOGETHER FOREVER AND NEVER TO PART.”

Southtowns Catholic School Student Wins at X-STREAM Games
Grade 6 student, Miss Kaylee Dodson won the “Shinning Star” award at the fourth-annual X-STREAM Games and Expo that was held at St. Joe’s on Sunday, Dec. 3. Her invention, “Game On” was an arcade game that was both fun and competitive. The event allows students of all grade levels to compete against others in the ultimate test of what they have learned via their STREAM classes and collaborate with others to show off their creations and months of hard work in their respective schools. Miss Dodson was very proud of the fact that she won the event where she was the only girl. She was also invited to demonstrate her game at the Buffalo Diocese GALA 22:6 on February 1, 2018. Information for this article was found in the August 20, 2006 and March 18, 2007 issues of the Angola Pennysaver which were submitted by the Evans Historical Society and Cheryl Delano respectfully.
The Evans Schoolhouse No. 7 was built in 1873. The photo depicts a group of graduates and friends, celebrating their first school No. 7 reunion on July 29, 1939. (Almost 79 years ago!) The young man in the very front is not identified, however the others in the photo from left are: youngsters and those kneeling in front - Merwin Eddy, Dean Bowman, Archie Davis, Charles Holland, Samuel Holland. Standing in front - Ward Cash, Alta Bromley, Inez Bosworth, Cora Townsend, Lucille Eddy, Lew Holland, Betsy Holland, Blanch Bowman, Mrs. Doebert, Mrs. Palmer, Mr. Palmer, *Daisy (Davis) Campbell, Rev. Robert Walker. In back - Mildred Cash, Mrs. Walker, Harry Bosworth, Mrs. Waterman, Jessie Gage, Erma Doebert, Gladys Davis, Rose Holland, Bess Holland. “Old No. 7”, as it was affectionately called, was located on Route 5 between Eisenhower Avenue and Reeves Road [9705 Erie Road across from Fillmore Avenue]. Throughout its many years of service to the neighborhood community, “Old No. 7” was blessed with excellent teachers. One such teacher was Willis H. Carrier, who later became one of our country’s most distinguished engineers, and the actual inventor of air conditioning. When Willis graduated from the Angola Academy in 1894, his family was not able to afford his college tuition. For two years, he taught while living at home and paying room and board. We also came across this information quoted from a book compiled by Anita Milka about the school districts. An unnamed former student gives this description: “School #7 was a one room schoolhouse. The teacher was Daisy Mae Campbell, who later became Daisy Mae Davis. I can remember her like it was yesterday. If the school had been good for the week, she would pop us popcorn on Friday. The bathrooms were two rooms to the back of the building. They were an actual pit, like an outhouse, only inside the building. We had running cold water to wash our hands. Each morning, Howard Neuman, the milkman, came to deliver the little glass bottles of milk. In the winter, they would freeze because they were stored outside. The paper tops would pop up, being pushed by the ice. As you entered the building there was a small foyer. To the right was a coat room. It had a window that looked out onto Erie Road or Route 5. At recess we were allowed to play outside.” After centralization of schools occurred, the students from “Old No. 7” went to the Farnham School #5 through the 8th Grade. Daisy Mae (Campbell) Davis also taught at the Farnham School #5. Upon closing its doors, “Old No. 7” became a residence on the estate of the Dr. Hick’s family. It was in very recent years, demolished. We wonder what became of the cornerstone? If preserved, it could become a permanent reminder and tribute to “Old No. 7” and the Town of Evan’s educational history. Contributed by the Brant-Farnham Historical Society __________

The LACC Shows Generosity to The BGC
The Lakeshore Association of Christian Churches recently held their Community Dinner and members voted on local organizations to donate to. The Boys & Girls Club of Eden-Lake Shore was chosen as the recipient of the LACC’s generous and greatly appreciated donation. The money donated will allow The Boys & Girls Club to continue providing the Evans-Brant school district with a “positive place for kids”. Support from community members and organizations like the LACC has helped the Boys & Girls Club of Eden-Lake Shore execute the programming associated with positive youth development. Examples of programming that this money supports are Art Club, Cooking Club and Junior Staff. The main objective of programming is to engage members in educational experiences while not compromising on fun. As the organization moves forward with the development of our Clubhouses, it is only with continued support from the community that we are able to foster an environment centered on inspiring and enabling all youth to realize their full potential as productive, responsible, and caring citizens. The Lake Shore Clubhouse currently serves 120 members, and we hope to reach as many children within the Lake Shore School District as possible. SCS Principal gets “Pied” for Ronald McDonald House
Students at Southtowns Catholic School collected donations for the Ronald McDonald House. Over the course of a week, they brought in food, juice, craft supplies, cleaning products, paper products, clothing and other soft goods. Miss Jessica Strozyk’s Grade 4 class brought in the most and won a Pizza Party. They also got to “Pie” the principal, Mr. Marc Bandelian. The desired candidate needs to be detailed oriented & willing to work with miniaturized parts and the ability to work under magnification (microscopes) for extended periods of time. Must be able to read & follow directions outlined in product ATP & QTP’s and have a good understanding of using measuring devices such as calipers, micrometers, pin gages etc. In addition the individual would need to able to effectively communicate with all levels of management, work well within a team environment with minimal supervision and to work overtime as required. The preferred candidate would have to have excellent attendance, be well organized, keep accurate and neat records and be able to document measurements & interpret test data results. College or Technical School a plus with an understanding of basic electricity is a plus. Previous on-the job experience in a test lab or related field and exposure to AS9100/ISO9001 Quality Systems is a plus. Computer skills such as MS Excel, MS Access & MS Word is needed.
