PLEASE TAKE NOTICE that a meeting of the County Legislature of the County of Erie, New York, shall be held at Erie County Hall, 92 Franklin Street, 4th Floor, Buffalo, New York, in said County, on the 24th day of August, 2017, at 6:00 o’clock P.M., Prevailing Time, for the purpose of conducting a public hearing upon a proposed increase and improvement of facilities of Erie County Sewer District No. 2 in said County.
The increase and improvement of such facilities consisting of the following projects: (i) improvements to the Big Sister Creek Water Resource Recovery Facility at the estimated maximum cost of $800,000; (ii) improvements to the Sweetland Road Pumping Station at the estimated maximum cost of $1,500,000; and improvements to various collection system at the estimated maximum cost of $500,000; all as more fully described in the report and estimate of cost prepared by the County Engineers (Erie County Department of Environment and Planning) which has been filed with the County Legislature and which has been approved by the Board of Managers of said District on July 11, 2017 (the “Report”).
The maximum estimated cost of such increase and improvement of facilities is $2,800,000, will be apportioned in accordance with applicable flat charges and charges based on units, assessed value and footage specified in the District’s benefit assessment formula and rates, as such formulas currently exist and as amended from time to time.
The expenditures for such increase and improvement of facilities will not cause additional costs for property owners in the District for hook-up fees, and the annual cost of such expenditures to the Typical Property (as defined in the County Law) is $13.28 for the District. The County Legislature has heretofore caused to be prepared and filed for public inspection with the Clerk of the Erie County Legislature, a detailed explanation of how such costs were computed, as incorporated in the Report.

Blacksmith Demonstration at the Brant Summer Festival
This is the second year that Mr. Alphanso Butlak has demonstrated his blacksmithing skills at the Brant Summer Festival. Mr. Butlak brought along his portable forge, a few anvils and many tools of his trade. He explained his blacksmithing process to those who stopped to watch and listen and he had plenty of examples of his aluminum and iron work available for viewing.
To help the Brant Summer Festival committee, Mr. Butlak donated handmade items to the theme basket raffle. The hand forged items were: two black iron candlestick holders and two black iron napkin holders. Some lucky winner was able to take them home!

Brant Summer Festival - People’s Choice Photo Contest Winners!
At the 14th Annual Brant Summer Festival, we had a successful PEOPLE’S CHOICE PHOTO CONTEST with 23 entries. No entry fees were charged. Over 130 votes were tallied in total.
The photos submitted were of a variety of subjects - animals, people, places and yes of course - things! Each person who visited the Historical Display/ Photo Contest area were asked to please choose their favorite photo with a paper vote. It’s not an easy task to choose just one favorite, as they are all wonderful. On so many occasions we were asked - “This is too hard, can’t we choose more than one??” This year’s first place winner - Henry Chowaniec was a first time participant. His photo received 27 votes! As a return photographer - two of Brendan Dillemuth’s submitted photos achieved both 2nd and 3rd place. (An entrant may submit as many photos as they wish.) We were so pleased with the participation again this year!
The winner’s each received a 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th place ribbon as well as recognition in the Pennysaver. Each entry received a participation ribbon. All ribbons are made in the USA.

Brant Summer Festival Parade Winners
Continued from an earlier Pennysaver article...
On Sunday June 11, the Brant Summer Festival Parade headed from Hammond Road to and through the Brant Town Park and past the parade judges table. Oh what a parade! The Lake Shore Youth Football Cheerleader’s float was the perfect combination of goal posts, floating footballs, smiling cheerleaders and football players. The Bella Terra Greenhouse Wagon was covered with flowers—you could hardly see the driver Caryl! We were so happy that the Brant I teacher’s participated again this year. The Brant I school closed in 2010, yet the Brant teachers and some alumni joined in the festivities to help celebrate the Brant community - they hitched a ride on the Gowanda Shriner’s Club #1 wagon. The “Brant Gals on the bucket truck” were an electrifying addition to the parade this year. The Lemke Family always has something amazing to showcase in the parade and the “road work / construction zone” float kept with their tradition. Gabe Igielinski (ventriloquist) and Mr. Talkity were dressed alike (complete with mustache’s) and super adorable! In the parade we also saw the Pero’s Brockway Truck, Ed Dinkuhn’s Mud Truck, Gowanda Rail Road Club Jim’s salmon colored 2 door Studebaker station wagon (say that four times fast), Bill Friend’s International Harvestor Tractor, the Barrett’s black Corvette, our youngest Brant Residents -Katelyn Valerie Kurucz and Raegan McClure, our Supervisor Lenny Pero, our Town Judge Clark Borngraber and Tom Bowman driving his antique car to name more than a few! All the kids love to see (and hear the horns/sirens of) all the local Brant and Farnham fire trucks and emergency vehicles during the parade as well. And at the end - we were treated to the marching beat of the Hamburg Kingsmen Alumni Band. The Brant Summer Festival parade judges, Susan and Gifford Swyers and Karen Erickson did not have an easy task and after much deliberation the category winners were announced:

The Brant-Farnham Historical Society’s display at the Brant Summer festival had plenty of visitors during the 2 1/2 day event! If you look closely, you will see life-long Brant resident Sonny Catalano at the far back center of this photo...and to the far right– a photo cut-out of Sonny when he was a 5 year old kindergartner at the Brant I School.
This young man was astounded (his own words!) at all the detail in the Buffalo and Gowanda Model Rail Road Club’s portable train display. The club’s display shared space in the historical society’s area at the Brant Summer Festival so as to highlight the railroads of Farnham, N.Y.
Brant-Farnham Historical Society Display Focused on Farnham’s Railroad History
...box car, engineer, ticket, tracks, whistle, locomotive, cowcatcher, caboose…..take a wild guess as to this year’s historical theme at the Brant Summer Festival? If you guessed the railroads in the village of Farnham - then you are on the right track!
The railroads played a significant role in the building of our community, our village, our state and our nation as a whole. Farnham was once a flourishing railroad village and served as a shipping center for the surrounding area, especially for the town of Brant. In the early 1900’s, Camp Porter military troops arrived and departed from the Farnham, N.Y. railroad stations, and we know you recall that President Lincoln’s funeral train carried him through our small village over 150 years ago.
To highlight the importance of the railroads in our village, we had, in the historical area at BrantFest, a train display provided by the Buffalo and Gowanda Model Rail Road Club. This was a portable railroad display of “N” scale with an amazing amount of detail. Visitors enjoyed looking at the miniature town setting, with roads, buildings, animals, trees, people - and of course all the trains!! They were so much fun to watch as they traveled clickity-clack over the tracks, around the mountains and through the tunnels. This display was a delight for young and old alike.

Other areas of our historical display focused on our local history - we showcased scrapbooks, school photo albums, Strawberry Festival memorabilia, farm camp, military, civil war, scouting and church themed items and various favorite collections, all related to the history of the town of Brant and village of Farnham. In addition, our display included recently donated items: accession books from the 1800’s, a 1942 advertisement card table donated by Paul Lawton (of North Collins), local political memorabilia, newspaper articles, photos, photos, and more photos! We had over 160 visitors during the 2 1/2 day festival.
