John “Jack” E. DeGroat

John "Jack" E. DeGroat, 89, passed away on October 17, 2025. Jack was born on February 06, 1936 in Buffalo to parents Earl and Katherine (Kingston) DeGroat. He proudly served his community throughout his life - retiring after 35 years as a courier with UPS and dedicating an incredible 71 years as a volunteer with the Highland Hose Fire Company. Jack was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Teresa "Terry" (Cupples) DeGroat, his parents, Earl and Katherine DeGroat, his brothers, Drew and Robert DeGroat; and his brother-in-law, Lee Webster. He is survived by his loving children: Michelle Wolniewicz (Brian), Denise Petro (Scott), and Renee Smigielski (Jim); his grandchildren: Sarah, Jimmy, Simon and Riley; and his great- grandson Jack. He is also survived by his sister, Dawn Webster, sister-in-law, Linda DeGroat, brother-in-law, Paul Cupples and several nieces and nephews. Jack will be remembered for his lifelong dedication to service, his strong work ethic, and the deep love he held for his family. Friends and family will be received at Latimore Schiavone Funeral Home Inc., on Saturday, October 25, from 12-5PM, followed by a memorial service at 5PM. Flowers gratefully declined.
