Our work
As CEO of Anglicare Victoria, I’m passionate about changing the life trajectory of children and disadvantaged Victorians.
I humbly walk in the footsteps of visionary Anglicans who first supported our state’s vulnerable children and families. With faith and service, these inspiring women and men established the historic missions and homes that went on to form Anglicare Victoria.
Continuing their work, Anglicare Victoria has grown to become Victoria’s largest provider of out-of-home care for children and young people, with additional services for families across 90+ locations.
Everything we do focuses on ensuring the most vulnerable children and families in our state have access to the practical help and ongoing support they need to thrive today and create better tomorrows for themselves.
This is not an easy mission.
Each year I see children and families face more complex challenges than ever before, and the demand on our services continues to grow. It’s only thanks to the help of our committed supporters that we’re able to continue to meet the needs of the people whose futures depend on us.
That’s why I’m so deeply grateful for the foresight of generous people like you, who graciously consider leaving a gift in your Will to Anglicare Victoria.

A history of faith in action
Anglicare Victoria is a charitable, faith-based organisation founded on the Christian values of love, respect, care and compassion for others.
We believe in families and we know that with the right support every family can overcome challenges and achieve their full potential.
Anglicare Victoria was established in 1997 following the amalgamation of three of the state’s most widely-respected Anglican-founded child and family welfare agencies:
• The Mission to the Streets and Lanes (established 1886)
• The Mission of St. James and St. John (established 1919)
• St. John’s Homes for Boys and Girls, (established 1926)
From the beginning, Anglicare Victoria benefitted from the 265 years of combined experience these exceptional institutions had in delivering pastoral care and vital support services to disadvantaged people in Victoria.
In 2014, our reach expanded even further when St Luke’s Anglicare Bendigo, (established in 1979) also joined Anglicare Victoria.
Today, Anglicare Victoria is one of Australia’s most innovative agencies and the state’s largest out-of-home care provider.
Our 3000+ staff, volunteers and foster carers work from more than 90 sites across the state, delivering a range of evidence-based supports and services to tens of thousands of people in need.
Each year we partner with local communities, the private and public sectors and our donors, to expand our services to meet the changing needs of vulnerable children and families in Victoria.

TEACHaR
(Transforming Educational Achievement of Children at Risk):
The only program of its kind in Australia, TEACHaR provides vulnerable students with personalised, one-to-one tutoring that enables them to bridge the gap with their peers and fulfil their unique potential.
Student internet program: Supporting families with free internet.
Homework clubs:
Safe spaces for students to learn, grow and develop their social and academic skills.
Navigator: Support for young people to re-engage with education and return to school.
TEACHaR: Life-changing education support for vulnerable kids like Tom*
The TEACHaR program has basically given me a new life.
When I went to live with my nan at 14, I absolutely despised school. I never thought I’d ever be OK in the school system. By the time I was in Year 10 and started TEACHaR, I was fearful about how I was going to cope in the world because I still couldn’t read. I was very far behind and I didn’t have any confidence in myself and felt like I wasn’t good enough.
The TEACHaR program was awesome because I had extra help outside of school and I developed a good relationship with my tutors. I enjoyed working with them and I got a new understanding of school, how to gather knowledge, and what life could look like after school. They also helped me to be ok to ask for help when I need it.
Now, I’m enrolled in Year 12 for VCE VM (VCE without the exams) which I could never have done without the help of TEACHaR.

Support
With the help of compassionate people like you, we’re there when children and families need us most.
Emergency Relief: When things get tough, we provide immediate and practical assistance including food, clothing, medication, counselling and other help to ensure children and families get through the crisis.
Financial counselling: Free and confidential advice, information and advocacy that empowers vulnerable people to take control of their finances.
Family violence:
We offer safe and confidential services designed to prevent family violence and protect those affected by it.
Family and parent support: Specialist teams support parents to make better decisions, learn new parenting skills, strengthen relationships, and take control for a better future.
In times of need
As life becomes more complex and costly, more and more people turn to our emergency relief services to help them through the darkest days.
For Marlena*, Anglicare Victoria’s emergency relief was a god-send. Although she has a regular job and can usually stretch her pay to make ends meet, things began to unravel when all three of her children came down with the flu. With no savings to fall back on, she couldn’t afford the additional costs of medicine on top of the family’s everyday costs.
That’s when she turned to us.
“I had nothing left to feed my kids. Without the food and support from Anglicare Victoria, I don’t want to think about what would have happened,” says Marlena.
With the help of our generous supporters, we were able to provide Marlena with a food parcel, supermarket vouchers and petrol vouchers to see her family through the crisis.
Care
As the largest provider of out-of-home care in the state, Anglicare Victoria provides safe, nurturing homes for young people including foster care, kinship care and residential care. We also provide essential, inclusive support through parish partnerships and community engagement programs.
Residential care:
For young people who can no longer live at home, Anglicare Victoria’s residential homes provide a safe haven. In a family-style home, teens are cared for by exceptional Anglicare Victoria case workers who provide the guidance and support they need to thrive.
Kinship care:
Anglicare Victoria provides vital support to extended family members who are looking after children and young people who can no longer live at home.
Foster care:
Thanks to our extraordinary network of foster carers, hundreds of children and young people each year have a safe place to call home. Our evidence-based MOCKINGBIRD FAMILY™ model is the first of its kind in Australia and is leading the way in supporting both foster carers and children.
Buldau Yioohgen:
One of our many indigenous initiatives, the Buldau Yioohgen program facilitates cultural connectedness, education and exposure to career pathways for our young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
Leading the way in foster care
Foster carers open their hearts and their homes to children and young people in need, often with little or no connection to other foster carers or foster children.
The MOCKINGBIRD FAMILY™ model changes all that, setting up a community for carers and kids where they can share experiences, support one another and have all the benefits of an ‘extended family’.
As a new participant in the MOCKINGBIRD FAMILY™ model, foster carer Merryn Wilson “got goosebumps” when she learned about the level of additional support she, her partner and foster children would receive.
“It will make such a huge difference to carers and foster children alike,” Merryn said. “My mind has exploded with the possibilities that MOCKINGBIRD FAMILY™ will bring to kids and families across Victoria. It’s a real game changer.”

My faith in action
I have fond memories of my childhood spent at Sunday School and continued my faith journey as an Anglican into adulthood. I’ve been a member of the Anglicare Council and the history of the founding and historical organisations that led to the establishment of Anglicare Victoria is very important to me personally.
Care is at the heart and soul of Anglicare Victoria and that resonates with me. A devotion to the care of children and families when they need it most.
I am an active supporter – donating regularly to support disadvantaged children to stay and do better at school. My belief in Anglicare’s Victoria work is backed up by research into the needs of the vulnerable and how best to support them. Programs are carefully developed, and then resources are directed to where they are needed most.

Anglicare Victoria Gift in Wills Ambassador
Including a charitable gift in your Will is one of the ultimate expressions of generosity. I hope that information included in this booklet will inspire you to consider Anglicare Victoria in your estate plans.
My Anglican faith is important to me and reminds me of how I want to live my life mindful of those for whom we should care.
Anglicare Victoria cares for children and families who are at risk. Children who are traumatised by domestic violence and the families who live at the margins and need support. That mission resonates very strongly with me.
My way of ensuring Anglicare Victoria’s work is assured into the future is to leave a bequest to Anglicare Victoria in my Will.
I reflected upon and clearly expressed my personal wishes and let my family know of those wishes. A bequest to Anglicare Victoria in my will, ensures that my faith journey continues as a legacy that will continue into the future.
I encourage you, if possible, to consider including Anglicare Victoria in your estate plans as well.

Ways to include a gift in your Will
There are several ways to leave a gift to Anglicare Victoria in your Will, depending on your circumstances. Some options are:
Leave a residuary gift
The residue of your estate is what remains once all your loved ones and charges have been paid. A residuary gift could be all or part of what remains in your estate.
Select a percentage of your estate
You can choose to leave Anglicare Victoria the whole of, or any percentage of your estate. Even if you are unsure of the value of the estate, this option means the percentage you intend for Anglicare Victoria will remain the same.
Give a fixed sum of money, also known as a pecuniary gift
This is when you leave an exact sum of money to Anglicare Victoria. It may be of interest to note that the value of this will decrease over time with inflation.
Leave a specific gift
You may wish to leave Anglicare Victoria a particular item (known as a specific bequest), which can be sold to support our work. It could be a residential house, commercial real estate, shares, artwork or jewellery. Please contact us directly to discuss this option prior to writing your Will.
Option of Codicil for existing Wills
A codicil is a simple legal document used to make minor changes/ updates to an existing Will. This allows you to add a beneficiary, change your executor(s) and include additional gifts without making any direct changes to your Will.
This can save you time and the expense of re-writing your entire Will. Once documented and witnessed, this is an extension of your existing Will.
Please speak with your family and your solicitor about which option is right for you.
*Names have been changed and models used throughout this booklet to protect the privacy of the people we work with.
