Page 1

MOTIVATION LETTER Honorable, distinguished and beloved Americas! I am truly pleased to be again with you in this letter. After one year of a dream that was possible because of you, here I am presenting my candidature to continue working for our values, our region and Federation. Let me introduce myself, I am Angelo Moreno, a 22 years old medical student in the Universidad San Francisco de Quito, Ecuador (yes, from our amazing region, the Americas!), and this is my candidature to be your next Regional Director! Did I mention that I like a lot the music of Bad Bunny? In the IFMSA we are shaping the future of our world, but also creating the present of our countries and regions. How do we do it? If we are "just" medical students full of duties and responsibilities, with some test tomorrow and surgical practices on weekends? Easy! Believing in our Why? Let's think about our Why? The vision of the IFMSA: A big group of medical students unite for the Americas and global health, equipped with the knowledge, skills and values to take on health leadership roles locally and globally. We challenge the status quo, we start with individual dreams and the present bring us to the regional and global stage. That is the impact that we have, the infinite challenge to improve the present and the sea of new ideas that we have to do it. All of this shining because of path that we like to create with our youth minds. Let me tell you about my path!

My map was discovered in 2019, after a LEAD workshop, probably I did not learn all what I know now there, but I make me believe in me and that impact in the world can start with a small action. Think globally, act locally. Who was going to guess the incredible rollercoaster that brought me here. Starting as general delegate and attending my first IFMSA activities in SCOME & SCORA at my LC, then getting my first LC position as Internal Development Assistant, after that jumping to the other side of the world to attend my first GA in the SCOME Sessions, later returning to the Middle of the World and being elect as National VPM. The excitement was incredible! But the path was just starting, after a global pandemic, some SWGs, the honor to be three times CCC, chairperson during the AmRM, part of amazing external delegations and meeting people with the same vision, I was elected Regional Director for the Americas. This position teach how to advocate a represent an entire region, my best year so far. A long time connection between myself of 2019 and 2022 has been created, an invisible line that makes me feel honored and humbled for this opportunity. The path is not over, because the why and the mission is not fulfilled yet, but guess what? We can do this together! Join me in this adventure to continue changing the status quo of the region and of medical students. Andean hugs from the Middle of the World, Angelo

Dear Americas Region, I developed this plan of action based on my experience as Regional Director and the direction that the Region will be taking with the adoption of the next strategy. The Plan of Action is structured with seven pillars that represent the main tasks of the Regional Director according to the Regional Regulations and the IFMSA Constitution & Bylaws. This second term will be focused on the implementation of the new Americas' Strategy, the returning to inclusive physical events, the voice of the Americas in the region and the world, and the well-being of the Regional Team and the NMOs.

External Affairs The region cannot achieve its objectives alone. One of our main strengths is the network of students that we have in the Region and the advantages of advocacy and external affairs that this factor creates. Connected with the scope of our communication, EA can become an important opportunity for us. Smart approach in External Affairs 1. Since the beginning of the term, I will set OLMs with the different Liaison Officers to look for different opportunities with external partners based in the Regional Priorities and the needs of the Region. 2. I will continue the talks with different past stakeholders (FELSOCEM, CONFEMEL) in order to reach a new agreement for the collaboration of our organizations. 3. Increase the engagement of the IFMSA with Regional Partners (HCWH, MeSCLAC, RECAINSA, FEPAFEMS) through different activities according their specialty. Youth in Regional Health 1. The IFMSA is not the only Youth organization associated to the health sciences in the region. Pre-AmRM: 1. The PreAmRM is the heart of CB in our Region. It will start to be planned with the current Regional Team. An appropriate handover should be delivered as the PreAmRM will require some time of the new RT. 2. The experience of the Americas' Camp helped me to understand the challenges of an OC in the context of a Training event. 3. I will ensure the correct and on time delivery of the merchandise of the workshops. LEAD workshop 1. Plenary Documents: Minutes & CCC reports b. Regional Meetings: AmRM Reports & SRT Reports 2. The creation of the Representation Regional Assistant. This RA will have two main goals: Representation and Well-being. The Regional RDA will also act as a liaison to the VPM's RDA. Americas Regional Team 1. The organization of the Americas Regional Team is essential for the progress of the Region and development of the NMOs. Individual meetings will be set with the RT members at the beginning and at halfterm to create and evaluate their Annual Working Plan. Before the AmRM, a CB morning will happen with the Regional Team. In this sessions, the RT will learn about their responsibilities in the organization of the AmRM, and soft skills to plan and manage their time properly. Team-building is a crucial part in the shaping of a new team, I will use different dynamics to integrate and generate identity with the team in all the members of the Regional Team. Bimonthly meetings will happen before the AmRM, and monthly meetings after this. During the AmRM, daily reflections meetings will be conducted in order to evaluate the day, reflect about it and improve. I will organize the Americas Regional Team Meeting (after the AmRM), based on what I learned this year. It will be physically happening after three years! The agenda will be shared for input with the NMO Presidents.

One Step Closer The Region can achieve their goals only through the participation and engagement of our medical students. Our members face some challenges to reach and participate in IFMSA activities. These are some actions to tackle this: Late Late Show with the Americas 1. The Late Late Show is a small space for interviews to show in a brief way activities that are going to happen in the Region. a. They are going to happen in specific moments of the term to promote the PreAmericas' Regional Meeting and their workshops; the call for articles for the Americas' Heartbeat and the 60th Directing Council of PAHO. Americas 101 1. The manual Americas 101 will be updated and translated to the Spanish, Portuguese and French in order to use the manual as a tool for leadership development and member engagement in the Region. Americas Regional Team Café 1. The Café has been an idea that is trying to be implemented for two terms. The new idea of the Café will be Working Parties where the members can share time with the Regional Team and understand the actual work and well-being of the Region. 2. The Cafés will be coordinated by the Member Engagement Assistant and at least 3 will happen during the term.

Transparency & Approachability The Regional Team works for the technical administration and development of the Americas Region. The Region Team shall improve the way the information is shared so the NMOs engage in the discussions and decisions happening. 1. An IFMSA Americas Region Linktree page will be created. a. A Transparency section will be added with documents from the Region (Regulations, Regional Team information, Americas 101) 2. 50% of the Regional Team Meetings after the AmRM will have an open call for observers, so members of the region can join and engage with the discussion. 3. The Regional Team will be always transparent about their well-being and activities through their bi-monthly reports. a. The RT will be open to feedback at any time. With bimonthly reminders through the email server, so the RT will be in constant improvement. 4. As RD, I will be available and approachable to set 1:1 OLMs with the NMO-Ps and the members of the region. Using a Doodle Calendar link like the past term. a. This tool will be recommended to the Regional Team, so they can be approachable too for their National Representatives. 5. The Americas Folder will be updated for the next term and a short cut will be created in the NMO Folder. In this folder, you will find the minutes of the meetings, annual working plans from the RT, reports from external delegations, regional documents, etc. a. This will not only help in terms of transparency but also in the institutional memory of our region & the IFMSA.

Availability It is important to tell you how I am going to manage my time, if I am elect as your next RD. I will be in my internship year (last year of medical school). The internship will require part of my time, but my university and hospital (close where I live) has always supported me in the participation of external events, so this will help to ask for permissions to assist to IFMSA meetings. I will be organizing my time to balance my academic responsibilities, IFMSA work and my well-being. I have been doing it for the last four years. Finally, working as Regional Director this year taught me & gave me knowledge that I will not need to learn again, repeating the position will increase the sustainability and the efficiency of my work.
