The College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) at Batangas State University offers a variety of undergraduate and graduate programs in the fields of communication, natural sciences, social sciences, mathematics, and development studies.
These include Bachelor of Arts in Communication; Bachelor of Science programs in Biology, Chemistry, Criminology, Development Communication, Mathematics, Psychology, Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences, and Food Technology, as well as master's and doctoral programs in English, Mathematics, Chemistry, Marine Biology, Development Studies, and Development Communication.
The BatStateU tagline, "Leading Innovations, Transforming Lives, and Building the Nation," mirrors the values of Development Communication as a program. By communicating innovations and empowering communities through information, education, and participation, Development Communication practitioners help create positive social change and contribute to nation-building.
I share in joy and pride that one of my professors in the BS Development Communication program is Dr Vaberlie P Mandane-Garcia, who is also a graduate of Development Communication. Seeing her serve as a university leader inspires me because her journey demonstrates that DevCom graduates can make meaningful contributions not only in communication and media but also in research, community development, and sustainability initiatives. Currently, Dr. Mandane-Garcia serves as the Vice President for Development and External Affairs and the Sustainable Development Officer of Batangas State University.
The Development Communication program at Batangas State University was established in 1992 when the institution was still known as Pablo Borbon Memorial Institute of Technology (PBMIT). It was first offered as a Bachelor of Arts in Development Communication under the College of Arts and Sciences through the initiative of university leaders and advocates who recognized the importance of communication in development
Over the years, the program continued to grow and evolve, eventually becoming the Bachelor of Science in Development Communication, preparing students to become effective communicators and catalysts of social change.

What Development Communication is
Catalyst of change
Development Communication originated at University of the Philippines Los Baños, the first institution to offer the discipline. It was pioneered by Nora C. Quebral, whose work established communication as a tool for education, empowerment, and social development.
Development Communication is often referred to as a catalyst of change because it empowers individuals and communities through information, education, and participation. By promoting awareness, dialogue, and collective action, it helps people make informed decisions and contribute to sustainable development.

Communication often aspire to build careers in journalism, broadcasting, research, and other communicationrelated fields.
Equipped with skills in communication, research, and community engagement, they contribute to society by producing meaningful information, conducting research, and promoting development initiatives that serve and empower communities.

My experience in BS Development Communication has exposed me to various initiatives that showcase the power of communication in promoting community development and sustainability.
• Project Journo Eskwela – A journalism exchange program that helped students develop their writing, storytelling, and communication skills while fostering global collaboration.
• Kalampag para sa Calumpang River –An advocacy campaign that encouraged community participation in protecting and rehabilitating the Calumpang River.
• SDG Exhibit: "The Growing BatStateU through SDGs" – A collaborative project that showcased BatStateU's sustainability initiatives through creative communication materials and exhibits.
• Community Engagement and Extension Programs – Various outreach activities that used communication to support education, livelihood, disaster preparedness, and community development.
• Environmental Conservation Activities –Programs such as tree planting, mangrove planting, and cleanup drives that promoted environmental awareness and sustainable practices.

I am Angelica M. Abante, a graduate of Bachelor of Science in Development Communication under the department of College of Arts and Sciences, with a passion for communication, learning, and community development.
I began my college journey in the Academic Year 2019–2020. Entering a new school allowed me to meet new friends, experience a different environment, and create memories that became some of the most meaningful moments of my life. However, my college experience took an unexpected turn when the COVID-19 pandemic emerged. As a result, I was introduced to online learning, which brought new challenges and opportunities.
Despite the difficulties of adapting to a virtual learning environment, this experience helped me become more resilient, independent, and adaptable. These experiences have shaped my personal growth and contributed significantly to my journey as a college student.
By God's grace, we were able to successfully complete our thesis with the guidance of our research advisers, panelists, and the support of my dedicated groupmates. Their encouragement, expertise, and collaboration played a vital role in making this achievement possible.Our research entitled PRACTICES ON ACQUISITION AND SHARING OF PEDAGOGICAL KNOWLEDGE AMONG GUEST LECTURERS AT BATANGAS STATE UNIVERSITY - TNEU COLLEGE OF ARTS AND SCIENCES: A BASIS FOR DEVCOM INITIATIVE.
The word pedagogical is simply means way of teaching The study reveals that CAS-PB guest lecturers had very high pedagogical knowledge acquisition practices and high pedagogical knowledge sharing practices.

The corporate world is like an invitation for me to realize the harsh reality of employment, money and adulthood period You can freely imagine the brain teasing journey of my On the Job Training for consecutive 200 hours. Financially unstable and mentally occupied, it was normal and bearable for me. I was filled with gratitude to be involved in a, virtual and face to face set up.
