EXT. HILLTOP - EVENING

A BOY (late teens) sits on a bench and a GIRL (late teens) sits on its backrest with her feet placed on the seat.

They watch the sun sink into the horizon, against the orange sky.

BOY

When do you leave?

GIRL Tomorrow morning.

BOY

And for how long have you known that you had to leave?

The girl hesitates.

GIRL

A few months.

BOY

Oh. I'm glad you got i-..

GIRL

I know it's sudden.

The boy waits for a beat, the weight of her revelation sinking in.

BOY

I just wish you'd told me.

GIRL

I wanted to.

BOY

So why didn't you?

She nervously lowers her gaze.

GIRL

I didn't want to prolong a bad thing. I thought that if, you didn't know and I pretended that I didn't have to go, the time we spent together could be like I always wanted it to be. Just the both of us. Not a thing in the world in between.

The boy slightly tilts his head toward her.

BOY

Will you miss me?

She laughs.

GIRL

Yes dumbass. Of course, I'm going to miss you.

He turns to her and smirks.

BOY

Well, that makes one of us.

GIRL

Idiot.

They share a smile, and she looks at the scenery before her.

GIRL (CONT'D)

I'm going to miss this place too.

For a second, the two are lost in the sight before them.

GIRL (CONT'D)

Oh shit, I almost forgot.

From her pocket she slides out a polaroid, and holds it out.

GIRL (CONT'D)

I wanted you to have this.

He reaches for it and takes it.

It's a happy picture of them at the hilltop.

He gazes at it as memories silently flood his mind.

BOY

I didn't know you had this.

GIRL

It's been up on my wall for so long.

She shifts her focus from him holding the picture, to the scenery.

GIRL (CONT'D)

We really grew up, didn't we?

He turns the picture over, to find written in black marker: THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING. THE MEMORIES AND MORE.

GIRL (O.S.) (CONT'D)

Are you going to keep coming back here after I'm gone?

He looks up, his eyes focusing on the orange sight before him.

The girl isn't beside him. He's older now, has a light beard and is wearing different clothes. You can tell that time has passed since the two of them met here for the last time.

The polaroid is still in his hand.

BOY (V.O.)

Yeah. All the time.

The boy smiles and he watches the setting sun.
