As Astara enters its 75th year as a spiritual Mystical school in Southern California, the historical importance of the Ancient Wisdoms becomes increasingly relevant. The tendency to look backwards while moving forward is a common theme for large anniversaries but Astara wanted to dig deeper and engage our community in a more 5D (Aquarian Age), dimensional way. Egypt was a natural source for this inspiration. As the veil thins in this New Age, and old three dimensional constructs crumble, there is security and stability in symbols of endurance and constancy.
As we continue to commune with the Angels presently and see the miraculous results made manifest, we are reminded that the Egyptian Mystics were doing the same thing-always striving for a deeper connection with the Source, listening to the Divine. Creating heaven on earth, was and still is the goal at Astara, no matter the outer circumstances. “When you begin to know that you are all humanity, then will love divine become part of your being.” Kuthumi prophesized, if you will, this phrase for Earlyne to include in the Book of Life Degree Lessons and its a profound message to try to incorporate in your everyday life. It is the simple Do unto others that the Christ preached and the Sanskrit origins trace back beyond historical timelines. When I teach at Astara and share weekly meditations and healings and practices, I am consciously making an effort to live up to this lofty affirmation. Through the help of the ascended teachers at Astara, my own guides, Angels and combined experiences that you all participate in when you join in any session, I hope you can experience the oneness that is intended to help and unite us all. I am bringing a few new insights into the upcoming sessions based on the ancient wisdom mystery schools of Egypt and presenting them the way they did-in visual pictures. So stay tuned in.
As we process and send energy towards all the prayer and healing petitions submitted, I am daily reminded of how difficult the current atmosphere of upheaval and de-struction is and how it is taking its toll on our Astara community. However, I also know that epic timeline changes are not achieved without a little discomfort and shifts. We cannot evolve on the upward spiral if the old world energies are not dispersed. Know this, that what many are calling the end of times is just the beginning of a new and unity conscious progression. Astarians have chosen to be here now and to hold the Light and spread the ancient wisdoms of Love and energy and oneness. We have been studying the Degree Lessons and practicing the techniques to manage our own nervous systems for evolutionary and even DNA physical upgrades and re-boots. We meditate to calm the outside noises that want us kept in fear or fight/flight mode. We are helping our fellow citizens who are less fortunate through acts of service, prayer and healing work which consist of an open-ended system benefitting both parties. Astarians share in the messages of Light from the divine to keep “The Soul Unfettered” and we look forward to this 75th year of Astara as the contemporary stewards of the teachings and are so glad you are here on this important journey with us.

MYSTERY OF THE MAGIC WAND: THE CADUCEUS
In the days of the Mystery Schools, one of the dramas of the Greater Mysteries concerned the god Hermes, or Mercury, and his mysterious magic wand, the Caduceus. As his famous rod of office, the caduceus was the source of Mercury’s power to fly. The super-eminent symbol did not belong exclusively to Mercury, however. It was often held in the hand of statues of the Assyrian goddess Cybele. It was used by the Egyptian god Anubis in initiation ceremonies. It was wielded by the Grecian goddess Aphrodite and the god Dionysus. So the symbol was universal.
What mystery did it symbolize?
In the Mystery Schools of Mu, Atlantis, Egypt and Greece the caduceus was often used to symbolize the whole person — physically, mentally, emotionally, psychically and spiritually. To clarify the mystery of the soul, the caduceus was overlaid by a cross. The cross represented the realm of matter and the physical form upon which the soul was “nailed” during its sojourn in the physical body.
The staff of the caduceus symbolized the spinal column. The entwining serpents represented the etheric channels ida and pingala. The human head was symbolized by The lobe and the wings defined The various levels of the mind operating through the brain. In many of the ancient symbols the staff was depicted without the widespread wings but never without the entwining serpents. The wingless globe symbolized the soul without its unfolded superconscious mind.
In the writings of Madame Blavatsky she quotes a commentary from the esoteric doctrine: “The trunk of the Asvattha (The Tree of Life and Being, the Rod of Caduceus) grows from and descends at every Beginning (every new Manvantara) from the two dark wings of the Swan (Hansa) of Life. The two Serpents, the ever-living and its illusion (spirit and matter) whose two heads grow from the one head between the wings, descend
along the trunk, interlaced in close embrace. The two tails join on earth (the manifested universe) into one, and this is the great illusion, O Lanoo.”
The serpents representing ida and pingala, the negative and the positive polarities, join together at the base of the caduceus just as they do in the spinal column, signifying that spirit and matter are united as one in the body, and from
this union springs the Tree of Life and the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. The serpents also represent the cosmic forces of the sun and the moon, and are channels For their mystical influences.
The caduceus was often used during initiations to induce trance in the initiate and to symbolize the state of regeneration or purity. The staff, symbolizing the spinal column, simultaneously symbolized the upraised serpent of kundalini — the
globe symbolizing the head and the outspread wings the attainment of the superconscious through regeneration. When we speak of regeneration we refer to raising or resurrecting the reproductive energies from the generative organs up the spinal cord into the brain. It is this upraised kundalini which transforms the human soul into a Master soul.
In the Mysteries which depicted the solar drama, the caduceus and cross symbolized the equator and equinoctial Colure, the great circle of the celestial sphere through the celestial Poles and equinoxes and the four elements-Earth, Air, Fire and Water-proceeding from a common center. The globe — a serpent with its tail in its mouth — became the emblem of the Supreme Deity. The cross, lacking the wings, became the Egyptian Tau cross, symbol of the upraised generative power in the initiate of the Mysteries.
Especially in the Egyptian Mysteries the serpent and cross were associated. In the temple of Isis at Philae a cross bearing a serpent is found on the Grand Staircase. On Many Egyptian ruined temples are found two figures holding a cross on top of which is an erect serpent. The Egyptian Crux Ansata is a cross with a coiled serpent above it.
THE COSMIC CADUCEUS
In some Mystery dramas the caduceus symbolized the lifewaves of humanity traversing the “Round of Tartarus” — the seven Rounds of involution and evolution the lifewave experiences after its departure from its etheric Garden of Eden until the time it reenters paradise.
The evolving lifewaves make seven revolutions around the seven globes of the seven world periods. We call the seven periods “Rounds.”
The cosmic caduceus symbolized this pilgrimage. Three Rounds are spent with the lifewaves descending steadily downward in Involution. The first half of the Fourth Round is the lowest when humanity has reached the nadir of its Round in Tartarus.
The last half of the Fourth Round sees the lifewave beginning its slow ascent in evolution: the journey back upward to the Godhead. Humankind has now attained the last half of the Fourth Round. Humanity, leaving the darkness, is treading the upward pathway toward the light. But whereas the vast masses of humanity will travel slowly and painfully through the Rounds of evolution, the initiate will travel “the straight and narrow way” of initiation and liberation, symbolized by the staff of the caduceus. In a few lives the initiate will accomplish that which the millions of the masses require millenniums — even perhaps in this one incarnation the goal may be realized. -Book Of Life 2nd Degree, Lesson 3
The symbol commonly identified as the caduceus (the winged staff with two entwined snakes) is most famously found in the Temple of Hathor at Dendera.
The “Dendera Light” and the Caduceus
In the subterranean chambers of the Temple of Hathor, there are famous reliefs often referred to as the “Dendera Lightbulbs.” These carvings depict:
The “Snake”: A serpent (representing the god Harsomptus) undulating inside a large, transparent-looking vessel.
The “Staff”: A Djed pillar (symbol of stability and the backbone of Osiris) supporting the vessel.
Thoth and Hermes: The Greeks later identified their god Hermes with the Egyptian god Thoth. Since Thoth was the master of wisdom, writing, and healing, the caduceus became the hybridized symbol of Hermes Trismegistus (Thrice-Great Hermes), who is central to Hermetic and spiritual traditions.
A MEMORY OF EGYPT
DECEMBER 1981
The trip to Egypt was lead by Dr. Earlyne Chaney, she sends her love and regards and to be remembered to you.
Earlier in the year I tossed up-and mulled over for along time-about the trip as I had been given a choice of India, Israel, or Egypt, when I saw Earlyne’s leaflet in the mail with its itinerary I said to myself this is one I have to go on despite of the number in the Group, around 200 or thereabouts, as the time drew near I felt this was part of something I had to fulfill, and when the Journey was half over, I felt more like a priest putting things in order rather than a mere tourist. By the time it was over I had the feeling I’d done something like paying back a loan long overdue, as well as meeting a great number of beautiful people, some of whom I shall meet again.
OCTOBER
1981
We visited the Giza Complex, again I was filled with awe and reverence, we visited each Pyramid in sequence, I felt as before as on our pilgrimage that we were walking on sacred ground this has always been the feeling during every trip since then. When we entered the Great Pyramid, even the air had an immense sense of expectancy after we had travelled up Ascending Passage to the Grand Gallery then the anti-chamber into the King’s Chamber, I discovered why the atmosphere had changed and vastly charged, Earlyne was carrying out a sacred holy ritual in the chamber after having set up a large circle of protection around the site, she was blessing each of us pilgrims in turn, she asked if we could all place our crystals or sacred objects on the floor and they too would be blessed and charged. Each participant stood beside the Granite Sarcophagus to receive the blessing whilst she stood within, she used a red Rose and sacred oil. I had a sense of increased awareness and peace - others saw a great Deva and numerous Teachers behind
her - again the Chamber resonated with the Group’s spontaneous chanting, the sound was so great we heard it at the entrance as each left. She used the Rose because it was sacred to the Great Mother, by coincidence I had brought her some silk Red Roses, as I thought it appropriate - but she used a real Red Rose from Ali Khan El Gabri, a nice kind man, who was her support and aide throughout the whole journey.
The Red Granite used in the Sarcophagus, the King’s Chamber and other sacred sites are not accidental or random, these hold and increase the energy and power.
Earlyne Chaney: Initiation in the
Great Pyramid

EGYPTIAN SCARABS AND INITIATION
QUESTION FROM STUDENT:
When I went through the Fire Initiation at Astara, I chose an Egyptian scarab. I’ve used it often as a healing talisman. It’s very powerful. At times, as I hold it and meditate, I can actually BE in Egypt, going through all sorts of wonderful experiences, especially around the great pyramid and the Sphinx.
ANSWER FROM EARLYNE:
Many prefer to use these special scarabs. They are special because they have been hidden for weeks at a time inside the Great Pyramid — in the King’s Chamber. You know, the King’s Chamber is actually a gigantic crystal. It is built of enormous red granite stones — and granite is strewn with particles of living crystal. So the scarabs I distribute at the Fire Initiation are highly charged with a powerful crystalline energy.
Not only that, but they carry an additional “charge” placed there by the genies who guard the Great Pyramid. Just as these genies place a curse upon those who desecrate the Egyptian tombs and temples, so do they do just the opposite for those who revere these sacred places. All the genies who guard the temples of Egypt are powerful, but those who guard the Great Pyramid and the Sphinx are especially so, and when a sincere request is made to bless scarabs to be used in an Initiation ceremony, you can be sure the “charge” is powerful. These scarabs certainly could be healing talismans. They can also transport the consciousness into higher Dimensions, such as initiatory schools in long ago Egypt.

THOTH & JESUS
The method for achieving Divine Wisdom is through silent meditation.
The Egyptians relied on the words of the hymn of Thoth, The God of Wisdom, who taught: “O thou sweet spring for the thirsty in the desert; it is closed for those who speak there. When the silent man cometh, he finds the spring.” (10)
This goes along with the words of Jesus in emphasizing the importance of silent prayer:
“And when thou prays, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that that may be seen of men.
Verily, I say unto you, they have their reward. But thou, when thou prayest, enter into they closet,

Hermes Trismegistus, Speaker of the divine Creative Word -8th Degree Lesson 13
Ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs are one of the oldest and most sophisticated writing systems in human history, functioning as a blend of art, magic, and language. Unlike modern alphabets, they don’t just represent sounds; they represent ideas and objects simultaneously. Some hieroglyphs are “Sense Signs” or ideograms. These are signs that represent the actual object they depict. If a scribe drew a sun disk, it literally meant “sun.” In our contemporary culture, we can relate to these types of picture writings as we have developed over 3,953 emojis to date, in the Unicode Standard.
Astara’s Degree Lessons are filled with thousands of ideograms and pictograms to describe complex metaphysical concepts and they enhance the writings in an extraordinary way that other wisdom school teachings have completely overlooked. Abstract concepts in the 1950’s were not as easily grasped via artwork as they can be today. There was no AI to prompt and edit whatever the imagination could “see”. No holographic overlays or even digital processing formats. In general, graphic symbols were completely simplistic, homogenized and limited. This is what makes the Art of Astara so brilliant. Combined with the channeled teachings of Kuthumi, the writings of Earlyne and the editorial oversight and research of Robert,
the artwork in the Astara archives is a fascinating study in how meaning is created (semiotics).
A few years ago, the executive Board of Astara began to archive the great volumes of independent artwork that it possesses. In so doing, the importance of taking a second look at the massive amounts of images and illustrations became apparent. The detailed levels of instruction contained in the sketches is a miraculous artistic feat in and of itself and not unlike the Egyptian belief of magic in their hieroglyphs called the Medut Netjer, (if you carved a lion, it had the potential to come to life), which is why some “dangerous” hieroglyphs in tombs are drawn severed in half, the Astara images do have a life of their own and have a transformative affect on the viewer.

To our beloved seekers, initiates, and friends,
Seventy-five years ago, a seed was planted in the fertile soil of shared intention. What began as a quiet gathering of souls seeking the “Great Work” has grown into a sanctuary for the spirit—a beacon for those navigating the mysteries of the inner and outer worlds. In October, we celebrate our Diamond Jubilee, marking three-quarters of a century dedicated to the timeless pursuit of Light, Love, and Service.
REFLECTING ON OUR JOURNEY
Since our founding in 1951, this school has served as a bridge between the ancient and the modern. We have walked the path of the perennial philosophy together, honoring the silent whispers of the past while evolving to meet the consciousness of the present. The teachings of Earlyne Chaney have become even more relevant today.

It is fitting that a 75th anniversary is represented by the Diamond. Like the soul under the pressure of earthly experience, the diamond is forged in darkness only to emerge as the hardest, most brilliant substance known. It reflects every color of the spectrum while remaining perfectly clear at its center—much like the goal of the teachings. .

THE SECRET OF THE SPHINX
Isis spoke words of prophecy at the time of my initiation ceremony and in ending said, “ When the Age of Aquarius Dawns, Little One, you will come again,” I knew well she meant that I would come back into rebirth during the dawning of the Age of Aquarius and that I would probably come as a teacher since I had achieved the status of High Priestess during those ancient days of the Mystery Schools
I remember that when Isis dismissed me, I walked through the hidden door existing between the paws of the Great Sphinx. We sat on the sand, the Sphinx and I, both staring into the dawn of the rising sun. I closed the writing of my book “Initiation into the Great Pyramid” with these words, “When the Age of Aquarius dawns and I come again, will I remember, will I remember, Will I remember?”
