The best golf, back at Valderrama

June brings us the LIV experience once again at none other than Real Club Valderrama, the flagship golf course in Andalusia and the Costa del Sol. This will be an even more valuable opportunity, considering that changes may be coming to this revolutionary league in the near future.

We will once again see the most spectacular stars in a groundbreaking and fascinating format, and on the course with the most sporting achievements of the century. Valderrama will be presented, as always, in unbeatable conditions and will undoubtedly be a golf test for the top players. Among them, Jon Rahm stands out, and he will be the target of many fans.

Another major milestone for the golf industry in Spain is the IAGTO European Convention in Malaga in May.

Golf courses and operators will meet for professional meetings to finalize contracts that continue to connect player-generating markets with courses and hotels that await them with open arms. After a rainy start to the year, the courses are facing spring and summer without the threat of drought that caused so much concern last year. Everything is ready for you to enjoy golf and a climate and services that are hard to beat.

HALF A CENTURY OF A GENIUS

Fourteen months after his serious car accident that almost cost him a leg, and following his amazing physical recovery, Tiger Woods won his last major on April 14, 2019, at the Masters in Augusta. He was 43 years old and it was his fifth green jacket and his fifteenth Grand Slam victory, marking a historic comeback after 11 years without winning a major and having overcome serious knee and back injuries.

Woods, who had not competed for 16 months and with a comeback and performance that can only be described as prodigious, won with a total of 275 strokes (-13), beating Dustin Johnson, Xander Schauffele and Brooks Koepka by one. The victory capped a remarkable resurgence for Woods, who missed the 2016 and 2017 Masters tournaments due to back problems before finally undergoing spinal fusion surgery in April of that year.

A magnificent 2018 followed, in which he competed in the British Open before finishing tied for sixth and challenged eventual champion Koepka at the U.S. PGA Championship.

He capped off that season by winning the Tour Championship to claim his 80th PGA Tour title. Months later, in 2019, came his aforementioned victory at the Masters, and in October of that year, by winning the Zozo Championship, Tiger wrote a new chapter in golf history by equaling Sam Snead’s record of 82 PGA Tour titles.

Tiger’s return, after not competing for 16 months following the accident that almost cost him a leg, and his performance at the 2019 Masters can only be described as prodigious.

On February 23, 2021, Woods suffered a serious car accident in Los Angeles that resulted in multiple open fractures in his right leg. Despite the severity of his injuries and against all odds, on April 7, 2022, Tiger returned to competition at the Masters in Augusta, a tournament he had won five times. He was able to finish, placing 47th. It was his last full participation in a major that year, as he missed the cut at the British Open and withdrew from the PGA Championship. In the only major he played in 2023, the Masters, he also ended up withdrawing from the tournament. The “Alien” from

TWO OF THE GREATEST

Now, having turned 50 on December 30th, it’s worth taking a look back to compare the best golfer of recent decades and one of the greatest in the modern history of the sport with the only one who has surpassed him in Grand Slam victories, the legendary Jack Nicklaus.

Who would have told that youngster that one day he would be as famous as the figure who stared down at him from a large poster on his bedroom wall? The youngster was Tiger Woods, and the gentleman on the

wall was Jack Nicklaus. Little Eldrick, Woods’ real name, would look at his idol’s record of victories every night and dream of one day emulating him. The master’s 18 majors became, over time, an obsession for the Californian. “It has always been my goal to surpass Jack,” Woods has acknowledged several times. And it seemed the goal was within his grasp... until the fall of 2009, when his life and his game underwent a radical change.

It’s not easy to draw a fair comparison between Nicklaus and Woods in terms of their sporting achievements, as three and a half decades that separate them in their lifespans, and in that time golf has changed considerably in some aspects, such as equipment (clubs and balls) and physical and even mental preparation. However, the essence of

competition, which is nothing other than the players’ talent, remains. In Nicklaus’s favor, it should be noted that in his era he had to compete against true all-time greats, such as Gary Player, Arnold Palmer, and Tom Watson, to name just a few (the first won nine majors, and the other two won eight each).

Analyzing the records of both golf stars, we see that when Tiger was 36 (now 50), Nicklaus had already won 14 of his 18 majors, the first of which came when he was 22 (Tiger had six majors by that age: two at 20 and four at 21). The Golden Bear would add the remaining four over a decade, when he was 38, 40 (winning two), and 46. In total, Nicklaus won his 18 majors over the course of 25 years, while Woods had accumulated 14 victories in a span of 12 years (between 1997 and 2008), and his fifteenth and final major would come 11 years later.

Before turning professional, Tiger won the U.S. Amateur three times consecutively, while Jack won it twice. Both secured victories in the NCAA Championship, while Woods was crowned the best in three editions of the U.S. Junior Amateur.

The number of major victories for both players could have been significantly higher had they had a bit more luck in the final round, as both

At just 21 years old, Tiger became the youngest person to win a major, with the biggest stroke difference (12) and the lowest score (-18).

finished second on several occasions. Nicklaus takes the prize in this regard, having finished second in no fewer than 19 majors, while Tiger finished one place behind the champion on six occasions. The Golden Bear, for example, succumbed to Arnold Palmer twice, to Lee Treviño four times, and to Tom Watson another four times. He also couldn’t withstand the onslaught from Seve Ballesteros, who beat him by three strokes in the 1979 British Open.

The names of Tiger’s opponents in this category (Cabrera, Beem, Yang...) don’t carry the same mythical resonance as the figures who defeated Nicklaus in the Grand Slam events.

When comparing their number of victories on the PGA Tour, there is a clear winner: 82 to 72 in favor of Tiger. The Golden Bear could easily have surpassed 100 PGA Tour victories with a bit more luck, as he finished second in no fewer than 58 tournaments and third on 38 occasions.

Of course, Tiger Woods could have achieved something similar had he improved upon the 31 second-place and 19 third-place finishes he has accumulated throughout his PGA Tour career.

After analyzing the numbers, the question remains: who is the greatest golfer of all time? It’s clear that if Tiger Woods had continued on the same path of sporting achievements that began in 1997 and was interrupted in 2009, the Californian could have surpassed the Golden Bear’s 18 major championship wins.

A lot has changed since 1997, when the serious young man from Cypress surprised the world by winning the prestigious Masters at Augusta National Golf Club in undisputed fashion: at just 21 years old, he became the youngest person to win a major, with the largest margin of victory (12 strokes) and the lowest score (-18).

From then on, the Cypress native gave a golf masterclass unlike anything ever seen before, demonstrating a superiority on the course that fully earned him the nickname “The Alien.” His game was, indeed, otherworldly. He broke all records, both in playing statistics and earnings, racking up victories as if it were nothing, even six in a single season, becoming the undisputed king of the Grand Slam... Everything he touched turned to

gold. For a decade, no one in the world could rival him, and his reign at the top of the global rankings became indefinite.

Everything was going perfectly, and even in 2009, the year his infidelity scandal broke, his earnings on the PGA Tour could have been a career record if he had started the season a little earlier or played in one or two more tournaments. He fell about €360,000 short of his most profitable

year: 2007, when he pocketed $10,867,050. The $10,508,163 he earned in 2009 on the PGA Tour brought his total earnings on that circuit, which he joined as a professional in 1996, to $93 million, barely a tenth of what he has supposedly earned to date, including his endorsement and other income. In total, around one billion dollars, making Tiger the highest-paid athlete in history. Also, unfortunately for him, he’s probably the one who paid the most expensive divorce settlement (rumor had it that it could have reached $300 million).

However, in 2010, after his return to competition, Tiger was experiencing the worst streak of his career and ended the year without a single victory. It was undoubtedly a year of change for Woods, who reappeared in competition in April at the Masters, five months after the scandal surrounding his infidelities had broken. In August, his divorce from

model Elin Nordegren was finalized, and his results on the course weren’t quite what they used to be. That said, he at least remained world number one thanks to his compatriot Phil Mickelson not pushing too hard.

Tiger’s 42nd place on the PGA Tour, with $1,294,765 in earnings, was the worst ranking of his career. Only in his debut year (1996) did he earn less money on the Tour ($790,594), but even then he finished in a better position (24th). The 2010 figures contrasted sharply with his first-place finish in 2009 and the $10.5 million he earned that season, in which he racked up seven victories.

In 2010, he played twelve tournaments, but only finished two in the top 10 (fourth in both): the Masters and the US Open. There were two he didn’t finish: one due to the cut and the other due to his withdrawal

on the final day. 2011 was an equally disastrous season for the Cypress player, although he finally experienced a glimmer of hope at the end of the year.

In 2010, he played twelve tournaments, but only finished two in the top 10 (fourth in both): the Masters and the US Open.

He relinquished his world number one ranking, achieved only one top-10 finish, missed the cut in one tournament, retired from another, and finished 132nd in the PGA Tour rankings, with earnings of $660,000 (the tournament he won, the Chevron World Challenge in California, was not an official Tour

event). He had gone two years without a Grand Slam title: his fourteenth came at the 2008 US Open. His victory at the Chevron Golf Club came two years after his last win, which dated back to late 2009. Woods, who had gone 26 tournaments without a victory since his personal crisis and the changes he made to his swing, edged out his compatriot Zach Johnson, the 2007 Masters champion, by one stroke.

The fallout from his turbulent private life and a string of injuries and surgeries derailed a career that wouldn’t shine again for a long time, even if only briefly, like in the old days. Nevertheless, Tiger Woods didn’t throw in the towel, not by a long shot, and eleven years after his last Grand Slam victory, he would once again astound the world with his win at the 2019 Masters. ■

“Azata Golf is a super fun and rewarding course”

With a solid background in advertising and marketing obtained between the United States and Spain, Francisco de Béthencourt changed his career when he discovered his true passion: golf course management.

After an international stint that took him to Morocco and a successful period in his native Canary Islands—where he managed iconic courses like Salinas de Antigua and Anfi Tauro Golf—this professional arrived in Estepona a few months ago to take the helm at Azata Golf. With a fresh and strategic vision, De Béthencourt seeks to consolidate this corner of the Costa del Sol as a benchmark for quality and enjoyment for golfers.

How did you get into golf management?

It was almost by chance. My father showed my sister information about a master’s program in golf course management at the European University of Madrid, and as I had played golf since I was a child, I became curious and decided to enroll. One of the companies that offered classes was Global Golf, who offered me a job, and that’s how I started in the industry.

2

What is the main difference you notice between golf in the Canary Islands and on the Costa del Sol?

In the Canary Islands, the high season runs continuously from October to May thanks to the climate. Here, although the

What surprised you most about Estepona upon your arrival?

I was impressed by how beautiful the town is, especially the Plaza de las Flores area. Also, compared to other more crowded areas on the coast, Estepona still maintains a more authentic and unspoiled essence.

How would you describe the experience of playing at Azata Golf?

It’s a super fun and rewarding course. It might seem complicated at first, but the more you get to know it, the more you like it.

What is the strongest point of the course?

Without a doubt, our greens. I think they are second to none on the Costa del Sol; they are in impressive condition.

What type of player usually visits the course?

We have a very interesting mix: from local members who play year-round or those with a six-month membership, to Scandinavian or British visitors who come specifically during the high season.

What is your current strategy regarding value for money?

We’ve slightly adjusted our prices upwards because they were a bit low and didn’t reflect the quality of the maintenance and the greens. Even so, we remain very competitive and continue to include the buggy in all green fees.

ALL EYES ON VALDERRAMA

The beautiful and challenging setting of the 1997 Ryder Cup will once again host the spectacular LIV Golf Andalucía (June 4-7), featuring the world’s biggest stars, including Jon Rahm who is enjoying a spectacular season.

The iconic Real Club Valderrama will once again be at the heart of the golf world with the celebration of the 54th edition of the tournament, which this year boasts many new features.

Nestled within the sprawling Sotogrande development in the municipality of San Roque, Cádiz, this legendary course will welcome many of the sport’s biggest stars in a tournament that promises spectacle, competitiveness, and a unique atmosphere.

Valderrama is no ordinary venue. Considered one of the best courses in Europe, its history is inextricably linked to the greatest moments in international golf. It hosted the historic 1997 Ryder Cup, the first ever held on continental Europe, and since then—and long before—it has hosted numerous top-level tournaments. Its design, the work of Robert Trent Jones Sr., is synonymous with demanding standards, precision, and respect for the natural environment.

A COURSE THAT MAKES A DIFFERENCE

The Valderrama course is renowned for its technical difficulty. Its narrow fairways, flanked by centuries-old cork oaks, force players to be extremely precise off the tee. Here, simply hitting it long isn’t enough: every shot must be planned down to the millimeter. The fast and subtle greens add an extra layer of complexity that has challenged the world’s best golfers.

SPECTACLE AND DYNAMISM

The June tournament will once again bring the innovative LIV Golf format to Valderrama, a format that has revolutionized the professional golf scene in recent years. This edition, the fifth of the league founded in 2022 and financed by the Saudi Arabian Sovereign Wealth Fund, comes with significant new features. The 2026 season marks the most significant evolution of the Saudi league since its inception, notably the abandonment of its original 54-hole format in favor of the traditional 72 holes (4 rounds). Shotgun starts remain. Furthermore, the number of players has been expanded to 57 (up from 54 last season), incorporating 5 wild cards who compete independently without belonging to the 13 fixed teams.

And the objective was achieved, albeit partially, of one of LIV Golf’s major demands: the inclusion of its best players in the OWGR, although only the top ten finishers in each tournament will earn points. Regarding the team competition, the team prize money has doubled: from $5 million to $10 million per tournament. Also new this year is that, based on their ranking, all teams will receive weekly payouts, not just the top three, as was the case until last year. The winning team takes home $3 million, the second-place team $1.5 million, and the third-place team $900,000 ($400,000 more than last year). The last-place team will receive $200,000. Each player’s results will count towards the team’s total in each round.

The prize money for the individual competition is $20 million per tournament. The winner takes home $4 million, the second-place team $2.25 million, and the third-place team $1.5 million. All players earn money, with the bottom eleven players receiving $50,000 each.

INTERNATIONAL STARS

Although the final list of participants is confirmed weeks before the event, the circuit typically attracts some of the biggest names in world golf. Players of the caliber of Jon Rahm, Bryson DeChambeau, Sergio Garcia, Dustin Johnson, and Cameron Smith are part of this circuit, raising the competitive level and media interest at each event.

ROYAL VALDERRAMA CLUB’S OUTSTANDING HISTORY

Royal Valderrama Club is synonymous with excellence, for both its spectacular course and its impressive history hosting major professional competitions. One of the most memorable was unquestionably the 1997 Ryder Cup, when golf’s premier men’s team event was staged in continental Europe for the first time.

Fittingly, the late, great Seve Ballesteros captained Europe in his home country to a 14-13 victory against their American counterparts. Despite a final day fightback from Tom Kite’s team, which included debutant Tiger Woods, Europe retained the trophy – with Colin Montgomerie sealing outright victory after halving the final singles match with Scott Hoch.

TIGER WOODS VICTORIOUS

Two years later, Woods was victorious at Valderrama –claiming the inaugural edition of the WGC-American Express Championship – with Canada’s Mike Weir winning 12 months later (2000). Several members of Ballesteros’

triumphant team also enjoyed individual glory at Valderrama, which hosted the season-ending Volvo Masters on the European Tour from 1988 to 1996 and 2002 to 2008.

Sir Nick Faldo won the inaugural Volvo Masters in 1988, and he was subsequently followed into the winners’ enclosure by the likes of Montgomerie in 1993 and Bernhard Langer in 1994, before the illustrious latter duo shared the title on the tournament’s return in 2002.

Other European Ryder Cup heroes to have tasted success in the Volvo Masters at Valderrama were Ronan Rafferty (1989), Sandy Lyle (1992), Ian Poulter (2004), Paul McGinley (2005) and Justin Rose (2007). Indeed, Rose’s victory, via a play-off with Simon Dyson and Søren Kjeldsen, ensured the Englishman would finish the season as Europe’s number one.

More recently, the Andalucía Valderrama Masters was won in 2010 by Graeme McDowell and by Sergio García the following year, as well as in 2017 and 2018. The renowned Costa del Sol club was also the venue for the 2016 Spanish Open, when England’s Andrew Johnston was victorious.

Not many people will recall that Valderrama hosted its first major international professional tournament in 1982, when the course was

It was the 22-year-old Californian’s first year as a professional, and she went on to become one of the greats of world golf – accumulating a further 21 victories, including 13 of on the U.S. LPGA Tour.

In 1992, Valderrama hosted a less traditional tournament, a Skins Game (a competition that successively awards cash prizes for victories at each hole, with prize money accumulated over the course of the event). This brought together five of the leading players of the time: Fred Couples (then number one in the world), José María Olazábal (number three), Ian Woosnam (who Couples had succeeded a few months earlier at the top of the world ranking and was fourth), Greg Norman (sixth – and first the previous year), and Ian Baker-Finch, 15th in the world and the following week the defending champion in the British Open Championship.

ANDALUCÍA

The “Great White Shark” won six consecutive holes and took home $360,000 of the $540,000 prize money, a veritable fortune at the time. Especially so for such a short co mpetition – just one round of 18 holes – and with only five contenders.

RADIAL AND ULNAR ROTATION (WRISTS) AND SWING

The ability to rotate radially and ulnarly is fundamental to moving the club correctly, as well as to generating power during the swing.

The radial component of the movement is crucial for correct club placement during the backswing, while the ulnar component is essential for releasing the club at impact.

Physical causes of poor radial/ulnar wrist rotation:

- Bone mechanics: During ulnar rotation, the scaphoid and lunate bones must rotate towards the ulna while simultaneously gliding towards the radius. Any deviation in this mechanics will result in either limited or excessive ulnar rotation. Similarly, during radial rotation, the scaphoid and lunate bones must pull in the opposite direction, towards the radius, while simultaneously gliding towards the ulna. So the same thing will happen here: any deviation in this mechanics will result in either limited or excessive radial rotation.

- Muscle mechanics: During ulnar rotation, the extensor carpi ulnaris muscle must move correctly. Any physical limitation in strength or movement can lead to a limitation in the range of motion we’ve seen in ulnar rotation.

Technical errors that can occur if there is a limitation in radial/ulnar rotation:

• Weak grip

• Loss of posture

• Chicken wing

• Sway/Slide

• Outside swing

• Poor club release, which will likely affect impact and

distance.

EXERCISES TO WORK ON BOTH LIMITATIONS

1) Ulnar deviation with resistance:

• Place a mini band or elastic band under your wrist and hold it with the hand on the opposite side from the one you will be performing the deviation. Place your arm extended on a bench or table.

• Perform a radial deviation as shown in the photo, slowly and without moving your arm. Return to the starting position and repeat.

2) Radial deviation with resistance:

• Same as above, but place the mini band on the opposite side and perform the deviation also towards the other side, that is, towards the thumb.

This and much more in my new book, Smart Golf: “Training to Perform and Prevent”.

20 YEARS OF A GREAT COURSE

Chaparral Golf is celebrating its twentieth anniversary in 2026. Under the leadership of the Rubio family, this magnificent course, nestled in the Chaparral forest, was brought back to life following the vision of its original designer, Pepe Gancedo. It took three years of intensive work to restore a course that had failed to overcome a deep crisis and had closed its doors in 1991.

The drive and determination of Antonio Rubio, together with his family and an outstanding team of professionals, not only made this new chapter possible but have positioned the course as a benchmark on the Costa del Sol and among the most prominent at both national and international level.

Passion, effort, and learning define the story of Chaparral Golf. A story with all the elements of a great narrative, in which Antonio Rubio emerges as the protagonist after discovering—almost by chance—a project to which he would dedicate three years of work to bring it back to life.

Pepe Gancedo, a passionate golfer and artist—known as the “Picasso of Spanish golf”—had already proven his talent with

designs both national and internationally. However, Chaparral was his most special project. In this unique setting, he had been able to fully express his creativity until the 1990’s crisis cut his work short, leaving unfinished business.

When Antonio Rubio discovered the course after acquiring the land for other purposes, he decided that no one was better suited than Gancedo to restore it. For the designer, it was an opportunity to bring his “baby” back to life.

Granada-born entrepreneur Antonio Rubio suddenly found himself facing an unexpected challenge. After his ventures in construction, the acquisition of this land, located between Calaburra lighthouse and Mijas, introduced him to the,

until then unknown, world of golf: “There was only a farmhouse-style clubhouse, almost in ruins. There were pine trees and forest, but no sign of a golf course. We faced every possible problem and more to build it. But the thought that we could make it a reality was an enormous motivation.”

Gancedo quickly got to work with a very clear vision of what the course should be.

The result was a design true to Pepe Gancedo’s style: a strategic and balanced course, perfectly integrated into unique vegetation and accompanied by spectacular views where the forest merges with the Mediterranean.

He assembled his own team and, alongside professionals such as greenkeeper Manolo Pantoja, managed to fully engage everyone in the project.

The result was a design true to his style: a strategic and balanced course, perfectly integrated into unique vegetation and framed by spectacular views where forest meets the Mediterranean. A demanding yet fair layout that retains the essence Gancedo himself highlighted upon its revival: “This is a fabulous golf course.”

On February 28, 2006, Chaparral Golf was ready for its reopening. It was then that Antonio Rubio and his family saw the final result

WHICH PXG LIGHTNING DRIVER MODEL IS THE MOST SUITABLE?

The new PXG Lightning family arrives with a clear objective: to transform the energy at impact into greater ball speed thanks to the innovative Frequency Tuned Face technology. The result is more distance and efficiency, although not all golfers generate speed in the same way. For this reason, the brand offers four models designed to adapt to different swing profiles, making personalised fitting essential.

The PXG Lightning Tour is aimed at players with high swing speeds who seek total control. Its compact design and adjustable weight system promote penetrating trajectories, low spin, and the ability to shape the ball with precision. It is a compact-looking club, intended for experienced golfers.

Positioned in the middle is the PXG Lightning Tour Mid, which combines Tour-level performance with greater forgiveness. It offers

mid launch, stability and control, making it ideal for those who want to maintain Tour speed with a slightly more forgiving profile.

For those who prioritise consistency, the PXG Lightning Max 10K+ stands out for its maximum level of forgiveness. Its high MOI provides extreme stability, helping to maintain ball speed even across the entire face. The result is straighter shots, higher launch and reduced dispersion.

Finally, the PXG Lightning Max Lite is designed for smoother or more moderate swings. Its lightweight configuration makes it easier to generate speed without effort, promoting a higher launch and a sense of control accessible to a wide range of players.

In short, PXG Lightning is not a single driver, but four specific solutions: Tour and Tour Mid for faster swings, Max 10K+ for maximum forgiveness, and Max Lite for effortless speed. The right choice, adjusted through fitting, turns your speed into real and consistent performance.

THE RISE OF ZERO TORQUE DRIVES THE SUPERSTROKE ZENERGY TLT GRIP

SuperStroke expands its catalogue with the launch of the modern Zenergy TLT Off-Axis putter grip, a proposal designed to respond to the rise of Zero Torque putters and those balanced by lie angle. This innovative grip has been specifically developed to adapt to clubs with a forward shaft lean, increasingly present in both amateur and professional golf.

The Zenergy TLT incorporates an off-axis core that positions the shaft at an angle within the grip, promoting a forward-leaning setup without compromising a natural hand position at address. This design allows the putter face to remain stable and aligned throughout the stroke, improving directional control and the repeatability of the motion.

Available in three sizes (Pistol 1.0, Pistol 2.0 and Tour 2.0XL), for right and lefthanded players, the new model comes in red/white and white/silver colour combinations. It also integrates standout technologies such as enhanced SPYNE, multi-zone texturing and the No Taper system, aimed at optimising feel, comfort and consistency.

The line includes designs of characters such as Black Panther, Deadpool, Hulk, Iron Man, Venom, Miles Morales, Spiderman, Thor and Wolverine. Each Zenergy grip combines iconic colors and high performance, with a parallel design that reduces grip pressure and improves stroke stability. They include a matching ball marker. The company highlights its innovation, seeking precision and style for golfers of all ages on the green, providing confidence, control, and a playful experience in every putt.

THE SANCTUARY WHERE GOLF MEETS PERFECTION

Just minutes from the bustle of Marbella, ascending towards the foothills of the Serranía de Ronda mountains, a world apart unfolds. La Zagaleta is not just a residential development; it is the epitome of European exclusivity.

la ZAGALETA

ZAGALETA

NEW COURSE: VANGUARDIA

In this 900-hectare enclave of unspoiled nature, luxury isn’t advertised; it’s breathed in the silence of its fairways and the vastness of its views of the Mediterranean and Africa. After speaking with Tatiana Morató, director of the New Course, and Borja Cabrera, head of catering, we discovered why this club remains the gold standard for the world’s most demanding golfer.

THE LUXURY OF SPACE: LOW DENSITY AND ABSOLUTE PRIVACY

The history of La Zagaleta is linked to the La Baraka estate, Adnan Khashoggi’s former hunting ground. This legacy of “wild land” has been preserved with a unique urban planning policy: barely 250 homes on almost 1,000 hectares.

This “low density” is the club’s greatest treasure. “Here, golfers feel alone with nature,” explains Tatiana Morató. With a community of international and seasonal members, there is no pressure on the course.

At La Zagaleta, time stands still: tee times are staggered every 15 minutes, ensuring that no player feels pressured or has to wait.

NEW COURSE: CUTTING-EDGE TECHNIQUE IN A NATURAL SAFARI

If the Old Course embodies classic elegance, the New Course represents innovation and spectacle. Under the supervision of a single greenkeeper for both courses, maintenance reaches levels of surgical perfection.

The club has made a significant investment in technology with the recent addition of the Toptracer Range system to its driving range, allowing members and external visitors (limited to a maximum of 56 per day) to analyze their game with professional precision. Furthermore, the renewal of the buggy fleet with touchscreens and comfortable seating elevates the experience from the very first hole.

“It’s a privilege to be able to play on two courses of this calibre with such a small

membership base. Our visitors value, above all, that feeling of exclusivity where the course seems entirely at their disposal,” says Tatiana Morató.

GASTRONOMY AND HOSPITALITY: THE CLUB THAT COMES TO YOUR HOME

The 360º experience culminates at the table. After a thorough renovation, the New Course restaurant offers fresh and dynamic Mediterranean cuisine, ideal for after a round. But the service at La Zagaleta goes far beyond the walls of its Clubhouse.

Borja highlights the personalized hospitality service. Thanks to impeccable internal coordination, the restaurant not only offers delivery to the villas, but also organizes customized breakfast plans and sends its chefs for private dinners in the privacy of the residences. It’s an à la carte service where the only limit is the member’s imagination.

The restaurant opens at 8 a.m. to serve the first players of the day and has an extensive wine list focused on golfers, including up to 60 labels.

Golfers also have access to the buggy bar, which will serve them throughout their round.

La Zagaleta remains that impregnable refuge where privacy is the norm and excellence the habit.

ANTEQUERA

GOLF

STRATEGY, LANDSCAPE, AND CHARACTER IN THE HEART OF MÁLAGA

In the heart of the province of Málaga, at the foot of the imposing silhouette of El Torcal de Antequera and with open views across the fertile plains, lies Antequera Golf, a course that has carved out a niche for itself among the most unique courses in Andalusia.

More than just a sporting destination, this enclave offers an experience where strategic design and natural beauty go hand in hand. Since its opening in 2004, Antequera Golf has evolved without losing its essence. It was born with the ambition of offering a modern, technical course perfectly integrated into its surroundings. And it has succeeded. Its seemingly generous fairways conceal constant decisions; each hole invites you to think, to assess risks, and to prioritize precision over power. Here, golf is played as much with the mind as with the clubs.

The design bears the signature of José María Cañizares, who knew how to turn the challenges of the terrain into one of its greatest strengths. The undulating topography, far from being an obstacle, became the soul of the course. Natural slopes, elevated greens, and strategically placed bunkers create a course that demands constant adaptation. The result is an 18-hole, par-72 course that challenges players of all levels, but is especially appealing to those seeking a technical challenge.

One of the course’s greatest attractions lies in the character of its holes, little stories that set the pace of the round. Hole 4, a seemingly simple

Antequera Golf is a course that has carved out a niche for itself among the most unique courses in Andalusia

par 3, tests precision with a well-defended green and the wind as a frequent guest. Hole 7, a par 5, entices the most ambitious with the possibility of reaching the green in two shots, although any mistake is costly. On the 12th, strategy dictates the play from the tee, while the 16th offers some of the best views on the course without sacrificing technical difficulty. And as a grand finale, the 18th hole combines excitement and pressure in a finish that often decides more than one round.

But Antequera Golf is not just about its design. Its fast, technical greens present an added challenge even for experienced players. This is complemented by a privileged natural setting, where tranquility and a connection with the landscape elevate the experience beyond the sport itself.

The offering is rounded out by a clubhouse that invites you to extend your day. With views of the course and a culinary selection that focuses on local ingredients, the atmosphere combines friendliness and quality, making it the ideal place to share your thoughts after a round. Antequera Golf doesn’t seek to impress with artifice. Its charm lies in its authenticity: a course that challenges, that changes with each visit, and that understands golf as a complete experience. In a unique setting in Andalusia, it presents itself as an essential stop for those seeking more than just playing: they want to truly feel the course. ■

NO NECESITAS OTRO CONSEJO PARA MEJORAR TU SWING

SINO

YOU DON’T NEED ANY OTHER ADVICE TO IMPROVE YOUR SWING, JUST A BODY THAT ALLOWS YOU TO DO IT

Do you feel discomfort after playing? Do you notice stiffness in your hips, back, or shoulders? Does your swing not flow as you’d like, despite trying again and again?

Many golfers continue to strive for technical improvement, accumulating advice, lessons, and corrections. However, there’s a reality that’s often overlooked: the swing cannot improve if the body isn’t prepared to execute it.

Golf is a demanding sport in terms of coordination, balance, and fluid control. Yet, most players arrive at the course with a stiff body, without warming up or any specific preparation. The result is not only a limitation in performance but also the progressive appearance of discomfort and injuries. In this context, “Golf & Body” was born, a practical manual that proposes a different approach and real solutions. Far from technical jargon or complex routines, the book offers a clear, direct, and accessible guide for any golfer who wants to take care of their body without complications.

This book isn’t just for reading and putting on a shelf; it will be your best ally for improving your swing and physical health, both on and off the golf course.

In a market saturated with technical books, this one stands out for its simplicity. The goal isn’t to add more information, but to offer the right solution. Through a small selection of carefully chosen exercises, the reader can effectively work on mobility, activation, and coordination, without the need for equipment or long training sessions.

The format, available in paperback or digital versions, reflects this philosophy: to accompany the golfer in their daily life. Whether

THREE GREAT COURSES AND MUCH MORE THAN GOLF

La Cala Resort has established itself as one of the most complete golf resorts in Southern Europe. Set in the hills of Mijas Costa, it brings together four golf courses within one resort: three championship 18-hole courses and a par-3 Short Course, making it the largest golf offering of its kind in Spain.

RESORT

Yet La Cala today is much more than a place to play golf. The resort has evolved into a destination where championship golf sits at the heart of a broader Mediterranean lifestyle. Its recently renovated hotel, awarded Spain’s Best Golf Hotel 2025 at the World Golf Awards, combines a deeply Andalusian character with panoramic views across the fairways and surrounding hills. The spa adds a restorative dimension, while the variety of restaurants and social events brings energy and atmosphere beyond the course.

A key part of this evolution is the Golf Hub, which brings together learning, practice and social life in a more contemporary way. Alongside the academy, driving range, Short Course, golf shop and Vista Café, it adds a relaxed coffee and eatery concept with spectacular views and a Starbucks corner.

Real Estate is also essential to La Cala’s identity. With apartments, villas, plots and rentals integrated into the resort, it offers guests the chance to extend the experience, return season after season, or make La Cala part of everyday life.

Holiday Golf is celebrating 35 years of providing solutions to pro shops and acting as a key partner in improving the professionalism and image of clubs and the player experience.

On May 20 and 21, 2026, it will welcome its clients, suppliers and other collaborators in an open house to celebrate its anniversary and the upgrade of its central facilities in Marbella.

Holiday Golf’s achievements and future prospects are based on the professional teams they have built over the years, including sales, logistics, customer service, IT (with the development of their powerful B2B system), and the selection of top-tier brands.

Holiday Golf has become the leading multi-brand distributor in the European golf sector and is considered more of a partner than a supplier. In this regard, Holiday Golf has provided training for golf course and pro shop managers for years, designed and implemented

shop renovations and equipment upgrades, and contributed to improving the image of the shops they’ve collaborated with, as well as indirectly benefiting those that have adopted the ideas implemented in the shops.

Holiday Golf is now the leading distributor, but you always emphasize that your business model goes far beyond logistics. How would you define that relationship with the courses?

It’s very simple: our success reflects the success of our clients. For us, a golf course isn’t just a delivery point; it’s a partner. We don’t just send boxes of polo shirts or clubs; we sit down with the course manager or the pro shop manager to analyze what their specific customer needs. We want their pro shop to be profitable, for the product to rotate, and for the player to leave with a top-quality impression.

You mention the player experience. How do the materials and fashion you sell influence a tourist’s overall perception of a golf course?

Golf is a lifestyle. Players visiting the Costa del Sol or any top-tier destination seek excellence not only on the course but also in the clubhouse. If they find recognized and prestigious brands in the pro shop, the resort’s reputation is automatically enhanced. We help courses ensure their retail offerings match the quality of their facilities. Ultimately, player satisfaction is what brings them back.

The market has changed significantly, and competition is now extremely high. How does Holiday Golf support its partners in helping their businesses truly grow?

We contribute our market insights and business intelligence. We know what trends are emerging, which colors will be popular each season, and what technology golfers are demanding. We share this know-how with our partners to minimize their risk. We don’t want stores with stagnant stock; we want dynamic, profitable stores. We’re not a truck unloading merchandise; we’re the team that helps professionals make their businesses successful.

Looking to the future, what are Holiday Golf’s pillars for remaining the benchmark in the sector?

The key is to never be complacent. We continue to incorporate the best brands in the world and improve our logistics and response capabilities. But above all, we continue to nurture the human factor. Being the best partner means being there when the course needs you, offering tailored solutions and maintaining that passion for golf that unites us all.

Our focus is internationalization. After consolidating our position in Spain and Portugal, we are growing strongly in France, Benelux, Eastern Europe, the United Kingdom, Scandinavia, and of course, all the countries in the Mediterranean have been long-standing clients, and now we have also begun operations in Africa. The key to our model is not just the brand, but the strength of our sales network; we maintain human contact and inperson visits in an increasingly digital world.

Speaking of equipment, what does the addition of PXG to your catalogue mean?

It’s a commitment to excellence. PXG is the only brand that has revolutionized the hard equipment sector in decades. Its technology, born without budget constraints, offers superior performance. Our strategy is to work exclusively with fitting centres to ensure that every player gets the most out of these clubs.”

In short, you’ve become the strategic partner for any brand that wants to succeed in Europe.”

Exactly. We offer a pre-established logistics and sales infrastructure that would be impossible for a single brand to manage. PXG perfectly complements our high-end offering.”. ■

“We continue to incorporate the world’s best brands and improve our logistics and response capabilities. But above all, we continue to value our people.”

Following the impressive start of the 2026 Circuit in February at the extraordinary courses of RC Sevilla Golf and Finca Cortesín, March and April saw the turn of other great courses across Andalusia: Azata, La Monacilla, RC Córdoba, La Cala, and La Cañada.

AZATA

On March 7th, Azata Golf hosted an unforgettable day with the third event of the San Miguel XVI Circuito Andalucía Golf Challenge Costa del Sol Destino República Dominicana by Globalia. This tournament once again demonstrated why this circuit has established itself as a must-attend event on the amateur golf calendar.

From the early hours, participants were provided with everything they needed to compete under the best conditions: practice balls, buggies, and comprehensive welcome packs. The course, for its part, was in impeccable condition, with greens that many players consider among the best on the Costa del Sol. Despite a less than optimistic weather forecast, the sun ultimately prevailed and shone for much of the day. This allowed the players to fully enjoy the course and the tournament, which reached its maximum number of participants.

One of the most appreciated touches was the homemade broth offered during the round, a gesture that helped maintain a positive atmosphere and made the competition more enjoyable. The combination of excellent organization, favorable weather, and a course in superb condition created an atmosphere that would be hard to improve upon.

The scratch victory went to Francisco José Pérez Martín with 37 points, securing his direct place in the circuit’s grand final.

In the First Category, the victory went to Emilio Manso Saucedo with 40 points, followed by José Tomás Román Martín (36) and Benjamin Lartigue (35).

In the Second Category, Jesús Lomeña García shone with an outstanding score of 46 points. Rafael Franco Mena (40) and María José Gil Aguilar (36) joined him on the podium.

Cabello, known for his work at the beach bar Pez en el Agua, once again demonstrated his ability to elevate the experience beyond golf, solidifying Azata’s reputation as a venue where sport and gastronomy complement each other perfectly.

The awards ceremony was hosted by Francisco de Béthencourt, director of Azata Golf, who received recognition from the

organizers for the excellent condition of the course and the attention given to the players.

The event concluded with a lively raffle, featuring top-brand products and exclusive gifts, bringing to a close a day that combined competition, camaraderie, and enjoyment.

LA MONACILLA

The Circuit added another important stop at La Monacilla Golf Club, where the tournament celebrated its fourth consecutive visit to this renowned course in Huelva, designed by José María Olazábal.

Despite the rain in the preceding days, the course was in impeccable condition, confirming once again the quality of its drainage, a hallmark of the San Sebastián golfer’s designs. The

The tournament was played on the America course, one of the resort’s three courses— along with Asia and Europe—all designed by Cabell Robinson. This course, known for its balance between technical challenge and visual appeal, featured firm and fast greens, one of its

The Circuit added another high-level stop with the tournament held at the Real Club de

Campo de Córdoba, now firmly established as the sixth event on the calendar. In a privileged natural setting, in the heart of the Andalusian mountains, the day was marked by the technical demands of the course and the remarkable competitive level of the participants.

Considered one of the jewels of Andalusian golf, the course offered a perfect balance between difficulty and beauty, forcing players to bring their best to every hole.

reading on every hole. These conditions shaped the tournament at La Cañada, where adapting to the wind proved crucial to the final results. Throughout the round, participants enjoyed products from sponsors such as San Miguel Beer and Solán de Cabras, who were also present at the awards ceremony.

DOMINICAN EXCELLENCE

The Santo Domingo Bay

Convention Resort & Casino has been completely renovated and will reopen to the public in January 2026. It is a brandnew hotel in a prime location, just steps from Las Américas International Airport and the capital of the Dominican Republic, Santo Domingo.

With its fantastic private beach and modern facilities geared towards both business meetings and conferences, as well as a peaceful and incredibly comfortable romantic getaway, this hotel is a perfect option that can combine business days with quality rest and relaxation.

Iván Cunillera, general manager of the Santo Domingo Bay Convention Resort & Casino, shows us the facilities of this renovated classic and tells us about its history and its promising present.

This project is transforming the hotel sector in the Dominican capital. Iván, this hotel has an impressive historical significance. What can you tell us about its origins?

It’s an iconic hotel that opened in 1957. It was the residence of dictator Trujillo for many years and has hosted personalities such as Walt Disney and President Fulgencio Batista after Fidel Castro’s victory in Cuba; even the current warehouses were once prisons.

Our goal, 50 years later, is for it to once again become a landmark after a $48 million investment by the Globalia group.

Besides its history, the location seems to be its biggest competitive advantage... Without a doubt. We are the only hotel in

Santo Domingo with a private beach, something that has been maintained by decree since the Trujillo era. We are just 10 minutes from the airport and 20 from the Colonial Zone. Furthermore, the vertical design allows 85% of our rooms to have direct ocean views.

Let’s talk about the guest experience. What stands out in terms of gastronomy and wellness?

DENZA Z9GT

THE BEAUTIFUL CHINESE BEAST

China is pushing the electric car market to the limit, even in the most powerful models. Its latest creation in this segment is the Denza Z9GT, a Shooting Brake (a blend of a sports coupe and a wagon/estate) powered by three motors that together produce 1,156 hp.

Denza, BYD’s premium brand, has created this electric beast that promises unparalleled driving sensations. This is thanks to its impressive powertrain: a 312 hp front motor and two 422 hp rear motors, delivering a combined output of 1,156 hp (850 kW) and 1,210 Nm of torque. With this power, the Z9GT accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.7 seconds and reaches a top speed of 270 km/h. All this in a vehicle with a considerable weight: 2,800 kg, and dimensions of 5.18 metres long, 1.99 metres wide, and 1.49 metres high. The 3.12-meter wheelbase provides exceptional interior space. The trunk is well-sized with a capacity of 495 litres, plus an additional 53 litres of storage under the front hood.

Powering this voracious machine is a second-generation 122.49 kWh LFP Blade battery. According to the manufacturer, charging with BYD Flash Charging technology takes 5 minutes to go from 10% to 70%, and 9 minutes from 10% to 97%.

The theoretical range, provided the accelerator is not used aggressively, is around 600 kilometres.

Thanks to carefully studied proportions (a 3:1 wheel-to-axle ratio and a 2:1 wheel-to-height ratio), the Denza Z9GT boasts a long and balanced silhouette that conveys presence, dynamism, and elegance in every detail.

It incorporates state-of-the-art ADB headlights with 108 zones and a unique light signature. Intelligent beam control adapts in real time, improving safety and reinforcing its technological character.

The new 21-inch wheels, combined with striking yellow brake calipers, strike a perfect balance between bold design and refined performance, enhancing both aesthetics and driving comfort.
