Here in Anantara Sir Bani Yas Island, we are co-existing with creatures that are beneficial to our ecosystem. Be amazed on how awesome they look and discover their behaviours while they are chilling along side with you.

Scientific name: Hemidactylus flaviviridis Also known as the “Moon Lizard”. They make six to nine times chirping sounds in sequence. Mostly found in bushland, hot and humid areas and urban environments. Like many geckos, this species can lose its tail when alarmed.

Scientific name: Schistocerca gregaria Desert locusts can fly at a speed of 21 miles per hour. This is almost as fast as the wind and allows swarms to travel over 100 miles in a single day. Desert locusts change color as they gather in numbers. Neutral-colored locusts are in solitary mode, but bright yellow locusts have gone gregarious and are ready to swarm.

Scientific name: Uromastyx These gentle lizards spend most of their waking hours basking in the sun, hiding in underground chambers at daytime or when danger appears. They change their colour depending in their body temperature, turning from black to white or yellow as they warm up.

Scientific name: Bunopus tuberculatus This gecko is active after dusk and leaves a track that most often displays the tail dragging behind as it walks on its short legs. The toes are rather short and straight and lack expanded toe pads and they are ground dwelling geckos and do not climb much.

Scientific name: Delta dimidiatipenne They get their name from the pot-shaped nests they build for their offspring. They remember faces and associate dark colors with negative things. They are not harmful as long as they are not harmed but if they are threatened they have the tendency to sting.

Scientific name: Chalcides ocellatus They are cold-blooded and may be seen on top of rocks or paths in the morning trying to warm their blood. Like many other skinks, their tail will drop if grasped roughly and threatened, distracting the predator while the skink makes its escape.

Scientific name: Apis florea They reach a decision about a new nesting site via dancing. They decide on a site when the largest number of individuals dance in the direction of the new site. The potential queen is fed nothing but royal jelly, which allows her to develop fully, allowing her to reproduce.

Scientific name: Colotis phisadia Pea-green when young but once evolved, it shows the orange and blue wing with black spots on it’s wings. . These beauties taste with their feet!
