I developed this project from the initial stage through the completion of the construction drawings required under local building codes. The most significant challenge of this project was the slope of the natural terrain. We chose to design the entire residence on a concrete platform and adapt it to the highest point of the lot, where the ground is more stable. The client wanted their vacation home to be a completely open space where they could enjoy the beautiful views of the city on the left side and front of the house.

The complete project includes a series of permit drawings ranging from architectural drawings to mechanical and electrical drawings, foundation drawings and structural details, as well as drawings for finishes, masonry, and ceiling panels, among others.

NORTH ELEVATION
The client is fan of the Japandi style, so the design incorporated elements and finishes characteristic of that style on the walls and ceilings. A chukum-style finish was used on some walls to add a unique touch. As a natural product, it has a low environmental impact and allows for natural humidity regulation in walls and surfaces, preventing condensation and moisture buildup.

On this project, I contributed to the design of the building, being the sole architect in the project team.
PAPAYA SEED LABORATORY
I had to carry out a site visit, as I do on all projects. A topographical survey was commissioned to first establish the ground levels, and a geotechnical study was also requested, as the ground in that area is very unstable. With this preliminary information in hand, I began work on the layout of the spaces. On the day of the site visit, I had a meeting with the clients, who shared their requirements and ideas for the project with me. I also set about researching the seed-drying process and learning a little more about building regulations for industrial projects in agricultural areas.

Responsible for the complete 2D AutoCAD production, municipal permit approval and crossfunctional engineering coordination (Structural & MEP) Sustainable building design was a key consideration in this project, so we included a rainwater harvesting system to reuse water, as well as a sewage treatment system to reduce waste and find a second use for the effluent.

The building was designed to be constructed using local materials, employing traditional Mexican building techniques, including fired red brick, a masonry foundation and native vegetation.

Portfolio / Anahí Rebolledo This project began with a meeting with my client; we visited the site, and he shared his ideas with me. The client requested a two-story home with a large backyard. Interestingly, he didn’t want a separate dining room; instead, he wanted the dining area to be integrated into the kitchen and, consequently, into the living room to create an open space. I drew up the first design proposal, and he loved it. So, after he approved the proposal, I prepared all the plans required to apply for the building permit. As with all the projects I’ve worked on independently, I handle the design, planning, and drafting of the roof plans, utility systems, finishes, masonry, and doors and windows. I also review the structural and foundation plans once the structural engineer provides them to me.

After completing the project, I formally handed it over to the client. On this occasion, the client asked me to handle the process of obtaining the building permit from the local city hall, and once the permit was obtained, construction began. I supervised the construction and reviewed details on-site with the masons and technicians until the project was successfully completed.
