Welcome to Anaheim Ballet School’s Summer Intensive Performance 2022! This culmination performance features students ages 10-19 years old from our local community, across the United States, China and Japan. Congratulations to all of our students! In just four weeks, these young people learned classical repertoire as you would see it performed on any of the world’s greatest stages, trained in various dance forms and styles, and enhanced their training with such courses as acting, voice and sports psychology. These dancers spent their summer growing, learning, enjoying the company of like-minded focused young people, and furthering their education. Many thanks to the professional leaders in their fields who guided these young people! Special thanks to our staff and all the volunteers who helped make this event a joyful success!

PROLOGUE In a far off forest, court members are gathering for the festivities for young Prince Siegfreid’s betrothal announcement demanded by his widowed Queen Mother. Young Maidens attending the festivities are distracted and realize they are late to join the others. Count Von Rothbart, handsome in his earthly form, has been spying upon them and suddenly claims Odette as his next victim, pulling her away to his rocky lair. Prince Siegfreid travels through a clearing by the lake and catches sight of the beautiful maiden transfixed by Count Von Rothbart, who is actually a predatory birdlike sorcerer who travels the land robbing young maidens of their earthly lives, transforming them into swans that are always at his mercy. ACT I: Festivities by the Lake Prince Siegfreid celebrates with his trusted companions: his Tutor, the Jester, good friend Benno and other Court people. His mother the Queen arrives and demands that he be married and she is happy to present a few chosen candidates. Prince Siegfreid responds by telling the Queen Mother that he’d rather go hunting with his friends. He doesn’t share with her that he is in love with the beautiful maiden he had seen earlier that evening… ACT II: By the Lake at Night The abducted maidens, in swan form, gather to share and lessen their sorrow in their common plight. Prince Siegfreid distractedly hunting doesn’t recognize the maiden because she is in her Swan form. The Swan Maidens wish to protect Odette from any more harm but accept the Prince on Odette’s command. Odette explains to the Prince that freedom for herself and her sister Swans will come only with the over-powering strength of true love. The Prince swears his love for her and promises to return!
ACT III: The Court Ambassadors from Spain, Italy, Hungary and several Princesses are in attendance to celebrate the Prince’s announcement. An unexpected guest and his daughter arrive and captivate everyone’s attention. The Count Von Rothbart and his daughter Odile seductively confuse the Prince, making him believe that she is the maiden who he saw earlier by the lake. He swears devotion to her and upon his oath a vision appears of the tragic maiden Odette crying. Her crying testifies that the lake was formed by the tears of all mothers who have cried over their lost betrayed daughters abducted by Von Rothbart. EPILOGUE In desperation Prince Siegfreid runs to the lake and searches for his true love Odette. The other Swan Maidens at first refuse to help, but soon recognize the Prince’s honest devotion. Von Rothbart’s evil forces are overpowered by Odette and Siegfreids’ devotion to each other and their belief in the power of eternal truth and true love.
