Moving Forward Together at The Marbella October is here, bringing the beginning of another busy season at The Marbella. There is much happening throughout the property—some visible, some behind the scenes—all focused on maintaining and enhancing The Marbella experience we value. The first floor lobby renovation is quickly becoming a reality. Staging is expected to begin in mid-tolate October, with construction anticipated by the end of October or early November. Please watch for periodic updates by email, in the elevator lobbies, and on the digital bulletin board in the mail room. As specifics become available— including start dates, demolition noise and dust, temporary closures, and other impacts—we will communicate them early and often. This will be a large and, at times, intrusive project. While management and our contractors will do everything reasonably possible to minimize disruption and maintain resident services, some inconvenience is unavoidable. The project will require P.U.F.—Patience, Understanding, and Flexibility—from everyone, including management, staff, contractors, and our wonderful residents. The 91% resident support for this project was an important milestone. Barbara Cohen-Feins, Chair of the Interior Design Committee, and her Committee were instrumental in helping achieve that support. Now, it is time to execute. Chef Victor, Casey, Ashlee, and Ms. Ellen Granger, Chair of the Food & Beverage Committee, continue working together to maintain and enhance our dining experience. New bread selections, homemade
baked goods, and planning for future Happy Hour bar service following the renovation have kept their teams busy. We look forward to these enhancements. Rob Dieckmann, Project/ Maintenance Manager, and Mr. Dick Jensen, Chair of Buildings & Grounds, continue focusing on storm hardening and the many large and small maintenance projects required to protect our building. Flood panel installation is underway on the garage level to help protect valuable infrastructure, including elevator and trash compactor equipment. Other work has included posttension cable repairs, plumbing repairs, and replacements. While much of this work goes unnoticed, it is essential to maintaining the safety, reliability, and long-term condition of The Marbella. Jackie, The Cove Administrator, and The Cove Committee continue keeping residents informed about Cove services while working toward the long-term viability and availability of this important amenity. Dave Coats, Controller, is working with Mr. Mel Poplock, Finance Committee Chair, and the management team to finalize a DRAFT 2027 Budget for Committee review and, ultimately, Board consideration and approval in December. Mr. Poplock also chairs the IT Committee, which continues helping residents with technology needs, from smartphones to BuildingLink. Darci, Kae Nywening, and the Social Activities Committee continue expanding our social calendar while working with

Michelle, our General Manager, continues working with the front desk, housekeeping, vendors, contractors, and service providers to maintain our high level of dayto-day resident service. It truly takes this entire village to make The Marbella such a special place to live and work. October will also bring a bittersweet occasion as we celebrate Michelle Woodman and her retirement. We hope residents on site will join us in seeing Michelle off as she begins her next chapter in the Georgia mountains. Event details will be included on the calendar and shared by email. Personally, I am looking forward to the lobby renovation, Halloween, and the Thanksgiving and holiday seasons that follow. There is much ahead at The Marbella. Understanding The Cove At The Marbella This article is intended to educate residents and answer some common questions about The Cove— what it is, what services it provides, and how it can support you or your loved ones. My hope is that it brings clarity to those who may not fully understand it or the many options available. Perhaps it will even spark your curiosity and lead to a conversation over a cup of tea or coffee. The Cove at The Marbella is fortunate to operate under two licenses, each designed to meet different levels of care and support. The first is the Standard Assisted Living License, which allows more independent residents to call The Cove home while still receiving assistance with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, grooming, transferring, and medication management. Some residents choose The Cove simply for the added security, peace of mind, and access to support if needed. They may spend their days enjoying their apartment and choose to come to The Cove only for meals, activities, or overnight care. The Cove offers a variety of options, including long-term care, overnight care, and respite care. The Cove is also proud to hold an Extended Congregate Care (ECC) License, a specialty license designed to allow assisted living residents the opportunity to age in place. This is the highest level of licensure available for an assisted living facility and provides nursing staff with greater flexibility in delivering care. It allows The Cove to continue

Through the ECC License, The Cove’s healthcare team can provide a higher level of assistance, including support with bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, more frequent nursing assessments, monitoring and recording vital signs and weight, tracking intake and output, medication administration, coordinating rehabilitative services such as physical, occupational, and speech therapy, and arranging transportation services. Under the ECC License, nursing staff may provide any nursing services permitted within the scope of their professional license and consistent with The Cove’s policies and procedures. As you can probably tell, I truly enjoy talking about The Cove and helping residents better understand the services and support available through assisted living. The Cove team is made up of some of the most compassionate and dedicated professionals I have had the pleasure of working with. Each day, they go above and beyond to provide exceptional care and support to our residents. The dress codes outlined below apply equally to all owners, guests, and caregivers. • Napoli Room: Gentlemen must wear a jacket every evening; a tie is recommended on Saturday and Sunday evenings and on holidays—no shorts for men or women on any day. • Valencia & Capri Rooms: Jackets are required, but ties are optional—no shorts for men on any day. • Madeira Grill Room: Casual attire, but no shorts at dinner. • Caregivers’ uniforms are not acceptable attire. • No males shall wear hats or caps in dining rooms. • Any exceptions for special events will be posted in advance.

Know Your Neighbors: Meet Cheryl Ann Mullin Yes, I am the new resident who drowned in the Galapagos Islands last spring and was given a second chance here in this paradise! My name is Cheryl Mullin, Unit 202, and I lost my husband, Jerry DeVito, eight years ago, so it was time to downsize from a big home and move to Naples.
loved teaching gifted teens about all the history of the area where they were born. We boated on the Chesapeake Bay all summer and wanted eternal warm weather, so we headed to Naples for its tropical climate. Summers spent in the Keys on our boat were delightful, complete with air conditioning, as were winters away from tourists on the water. After losing my husband at 54, I taught college prep English in Lee County for 10 years.
Born in Peoria, IL, I graduated from Illinois State University and the University of Illinois at Chicago Circle Campus with an MS in English, reading, and communication.
Meeting Jerry inspired me to pursue my true passion: exercise, dance, and helping people discover the joy of movement for a healthier, happier life. With the Ritz-Carlton Spa preparing to open, I had the incredible opportunity to be there from the very beginning. Pilates was becoming popular, and I love and practice it daily; it gives strength, flexibility, core, balance, and focus to the mind, body, and spirit. "My name is Cheryl, and I am a Pilates addict!"
My true love was fitness, but my Dad returned from WWII and told me that no matter who ran our country, they would need teachers and nurses. He wanted me to have a backup in case I ever needed to support myself. I taught around the Chicago suburban area and developed a reading project for the U.S. Department of Education, which led to travel throughout the United States and Guam. My staff and I worked out of a county superintendent's office in Princeton, IL, where I also owned a travel agency at the very beginning of computer ticketing. I married a gentleman from Philadelphia and
I also have certifications to teach personal training, yoga, water aerobics, and balance. I have traveled the world, and love kind, good people everywhere. Various cultures teach us so much about people on this planet and how different yet alike we are. I want to thank everyone here, from the maintenance staff to each resident I have had the pleasure of meeting, for your warm welcome!
