2019 THREAD REPORT:
GLOBAL COMPETENCY AND SOCIAL SUSTAINABILITY Learning about who we are, what we believe and how we want to make a positive impact in the world is a lifelong task. This year, the Global Scholars have been discussing what it means to engage in fair and thoughtful service in both domestic and international settings as well as holding Skype calls with Ecuador, hosting guest speakers from Greece, making photo projects, and writing Portal proposal letters. In addition to the Global Scholar program, AIM Academy offers an International Service Learning class that helps students study the culture and geography of the place they will travel to on their spring break service trip which helps students begin to peel back the layers of what service learning includes. Participating in authentic service learning requires an open mind and a willingness to examine expectations, intentions, and expose a wide range of motivations before engaging in the work. The Center for Global Leadership at AIM Academy hopes to provide a variety of experiences for students in all grades to learn about such terms as social justice, global citizenship, interdependence, and more. This newsletter is meant to summarize some of the incredible programs that have been taught through a global lens. The Center for Global Leadership is one of the 4 Threads to the Future programs at AIM.
