With a larger carnival, new events like a basketball garden, and a full slate of music, food, and family fun, organizers of the 76th annual Amery Fall Festival are preparing for one of the most expansive weekends yet— hoping strong community support and clear skies will help make this year’s celebration the most successful to date.
The festival will start Thursday, September 11, at 4 p.m. at Michael Park and will run through Sunday, September 14. During the four days, there will be many activities for the community to enjoy, along with live music from popular local bands. One of the main differences this year will be the size of the carnival due to a change in dates. “It is the same company, but in the past they had two sets of carnivals,
and the bigger set used to go I think it's somewhere down by Milwaukee, and that festival changed their dates,” Cochair of the Fall Festival April Ziemer said. “So we were able to get the bigger carnival here this year, which was very nice. As the Amery School District looks to the future, board members and local stakeholders are turning to a new strategic plan designed to serve as a roadmap through 2030. The Amery School Board will use feedback to implement various strategies for their 20252030 strategic plan. Community members, educators, and administrators contributed to creating the plan through a strategic planning committee. Thanks to their efforts, the 28 individuals involved in drafting initially came up with four strategic frameworks to develop and improve. The group met multiple times over the past few months to refine a draft that will help guide the district into the future. Helping to make this happen was Amanda Anderson, Stephanie Jansen, Beth Anderson, Dale Johnson, Tom Bensen, Ashley Long, Annie Braaten, Jon McBride, Abbie Bohatta, Steve Osero, Megan Challoner, Becky Schmidt, Shayne Curtis, Nick Stewart, Jessica D’Ambrosio, Joe Vierkandt, Gwen Dado, Amanda Warner, Shawn Doerfler, Kate Weisenbeck, Ashley Emerson, Brooke Whitely, Char Glenna, Heather Wiarda, Josh Gould, Larry Wojchik, Tracy Hendrickson and April Zimer. “Having a hand in helping design it, and seeing through the process, I'm hoping this

This year’s Fall Festival Parade Grand Marshals will be Julie and Larry Riemenschneider. The pair learned of their selection during the annual awards night for the Amery Community Club and were both pleasantly surprised by the news. After some gentle persuasion to attend the event, they decided to enjoy a fun night out. Larry felt something was a little off when he took out his wallet to pay for dinner,
was told ‘No,’ and was given seats instead. Not only that, Larry and Julie had front-row seats near the speakers. Soon after, it was announced they would be representing Amery as the Grand Marshals for this year’s Fall Festival. They received flowers and much recognition from those in attendance. Although they both expressed how much of an honor it was, it was no surprise to those who know the couple. Both Larry and Julie have been, and continue to be,
pillars of the Amery community in everything they do. Before they became the power couple they are today, the Riemenschneiders had to meet first. Thanks to a church support group for singles who were divorced or widowed, their paths crossed. To add to their love story, their first date happened on Valentine’s Day. The season of love never wore off for Larry and Julie, and they married the following year on their an-
