‘‘LEA’’ Conference Operation Smile Latinoamericanos en Acción (LEA) Operation Smile conference was held in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic from January 22 to January 27. The students attended educational talks to become better citizens of the world and thus be able to lead-act and empower others. Lead by their advisor, Mrs. Justa Corea, a delegation of 13 EAGLES were once again the best ambassadors our school could ask for when it comes to social responsibility.

Nursery Dental Care Dr. Hernán Argüello paid a visit to our Nursery students to talk about Dental Care. The little ones learned how to properly brush their teeth and what a dentist does. The students asked a lot of questions and they cleared a lot of concerns they had about their teeth. Thank you Dr. Argüello for the gift of your time and expertise.

7th Grade NaNoWriMo For the past month, seventh graders have joined thousands of writers around the world in the ‘’National Novel Writing Month’’ project. Each student has been challenged by their teacher Mr. Sundlin, to write a minimum of 5,000 words in one month. Students have discussed and worked with creating awesome characters and settings. They have also worked on how to create conflict, outline a plot, and write dialogue that will strike the deepest envy in writers the world over. In the end, students have achieved a variety of amazing comedies, dramas, and science fiction stories. The seventh graders combined have written over: 185,000 words and 737 pages!!

7th grade Hand Prosthesis Mrs. Girón 7th grade class, as part of their curricular activities had to design and build a Hand Prosthesis. They had to work on groups and research about the human body’s muscular system. The prosthesis must grasp, lift, and release; it must be activated by a pulled cord or string; and it must spring back when the cord is released. This assignment allowed 7th graders to develop their creativity and thinking skills!! GREAT JOB!

Houses Crossover We had our monthly ‘‘Houses Crossover’’ in which our Middle School(MS) and High School(HS) students join and play games by House. This is a great moment for our MS students to bond with the older ones and learn from them. Congrats to our House Parents and House Coordinators for the hard work they carry out on a daily basis.

‘‘La Sexualidad y el Adolescente’’ Conference Ms. María de los Ángeles Quesada (MS Counselor) gave a lecture about how to talk about sex with teenagers to Middle School parents in our Multipurpose room. It was a very informative conference, part of the Parent Talk, sponsored by the Character Ed Department. Delicious snacks, catered by our Dining Hall, were available for all.
6th Grade China Song Our sixth graders had to compose and perform a song with lyrics about the history of China for Mrs. Linda Vinelli ´s English class. There were really creative songs with background music from Ed Sheeran, Robin Thicke, Pharrell, among others. This activity motivated students to learn about the history of China in a fun way, while promoting creativity and public speaking.WAY TO GO 6TH GRADE!!

Art Advanced Ceramics Ms. Pamela Callejas 7th grade Art Advanced Ceramics is designing sculptures that represent the human body with clay. Elementary STUCO Project Our Elementary STUCO lead by their advisor Gaby Simรณn, visited Superintendent Mrs. Jenkins, and our Elementary Principal Mrs. Vides, to present a proposal of their Final Project for this school year. Our students made an incredible presentation and their final project was approved. Expect wonders in May. We are proud of our Elementary STUCO Team!!

ALUMNI CORNER STANLEY MARRDER (’90) Our alumni Stanley Marrder (’90) is a born entrepreneur and one of the experts at a technological level that stands out with success in Houston, United States, where he has been living for 21 years. His passion for technology was discovered when he was 14 years old, when he was designing databases and word processors. Today, he is the owner of Marrder Omnimedia, company that provides a diverse suite of products and services to client organizations seeking better employee and data management systems; Xybera, media production company; Locstatt, a risk and safety management software film; and Honduras Weekly. Stanley created an application that uses industrial intrinsic devices for ChevronTexaco that is used in an oil well in Africa. Also, he has an online document management application, which is used by ExxonMobil and Dow Chemical, which is being adapted for mobile devices. Stanley has won more than 30 International prizes including an Addy from the American Advertising Federation. Great Job Stanley, thank you for representing AST and Honduras Internationally.
