Special Services Celebration Our High School’s Special Services Department celebrated their postponed Thanksgiving/Christmas celebration last week. Ms. Dulce López and Mrs. Stephanie Villavicencio organized a great after school lunch in which the students enjoyed with their teachers and friends. There was music, delicious turkey, Arabic food, and a lot of baked goods in the menu. It´s never too late to celebrate!

Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica visits Fundación Hondureña para el Niño con Cáncer (FUHNICER) The members of S.H.H. visited La Fundación Hondureña para el Niño con Cancer at Hospital Escuela. This great initiative by their Advisor, Ms. Zoila Busmail, and the President Camila Mencia, is one of the best yearly activities of S.H.H. Our students brought some gifts for the children, and also a lot of joy and happiness. They also shared some snacks and cake with their parents. It is worth mentioning that several of the hats, scarves and blankets were donated by Ms. Alina Fernandez (’81), which was right on time given to the cool weather in Tegucigalpa. Without a doubt our students are developing the values ‘’generosity, solidarity and empathy’’ by giving of themselves in these activities. #thatstheeagleway

Community Helpers First grade students' Social Studies class has gone all across the board. They just experienced a cross curricular activity in which all teachers including Spanish, P.E., Music, Art, Computers developed a "Living in a Community" unit. Students had the opportunity to meet different community workers and learn more about their jobs, tools, and services they provide. They welcomed paramedics, doctors, police officers, soldiers, and fire fighters. They also had a chance to visit our Dinning Hall manager and the staff in action on site! The learning continued in the classroom as they dressed up to represent different community helpers and presented to their classmates. A great learning experience!

Bible Study Club Every year the members of the Bible Study Club visit the elderly, and this year has not been the exception. On Tuesday, January 16th, they students visited the ‘’Asilo de Ancianos Salvador Aguirre’’ and brought them joy with chants, presents (diapers, soap, body cream, hats and scarves, etc.), tamales, cupcakes, puddings, milk, sandwiches, gelatin, among others. However, the most important part of the visit, was the memories and the happiness that our students gave to them. This is a great activity organized by the Bible Study Club, led by their advisor Ms. Zoila Busmail. What a better way than to start the year by spending time with the elderly!

Arabic Tuesday ‘’Every Tuesday will be Arabic Tuesday’’ @ Ast’s Dining Hall! Seniors, Rodrigo Figueroa and Daniel Massu have started a business relationship with our Dining Hall Manager, Angélica Díaz del Valle (’97). Students love it! This is Entrepreneurship at its best, YUMMY!
Martin Luther King Jr. (Stem Project 1st grade) First graders had to build a monument to honor MLK. Jr. with a budget of US$20.00. They designed and then creatively chose and bought materials such as cardboard, glue, tape, etc. This was a cross curricular activity assigned in Ms. Michelle Corrales’ Computer Class for the Community Helpers unit. Great Job Firstt Graders!!

STUCO’s Fast Food Day Last week STUCO had its second Fast Food Day fundraising activity of the year for the MS and HS students. They enjoyed delicious nuggets, fries and biscuits from Popeyes. All funds collected will be used in the STUCO final gift to AST’s student body.
Kinder Glasses Day Our Kinder students learned more about the letter ‘’G’’ by wearing ‘’glasses’’ to school last Friday. They came to School with glasses of all sorts: sunglasses, eyeglasses, sports glasses, etc. It was a fun educational activity for all!

Cross Country Intramural Our Athletic Department hosted its first ‘’Intramural Cross Country Race’’. It was a huge success! Special thanks to our Basketball coaches, Track & Field coaches, and Mr. Rony Martinez who helped make this First Cross Country Intramural, a memorable one. ALUMNI CORNER CLAUDIA SIMON (’87 ) Our Alumna Claudia Simon (’87) is a proud Eagle representing AST and Honduras Nationally and Internationally. She is a great businesswoman and has her own company of Events and Interior Designs: CSIMON Eventos. She has planned and catered prestigious weddings, graduations, etc. Claudia is not only a successful businesswoman, but she is also the Ambassadress of Honduras in the Dominican Republic. In 2016 she was given the Title of Ambassadress Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Honduras by Mr. Danilo Medina Sanchez (President of Dominican Republic).
