AASCA Middle School Sportsmanship Festival Last week we hosted the AASCA Middle School Sportsmanship Festival. This event, following the AASCA Athletic Mission, consisted in unifying and integrating students from the different American schools in the region who attended the festival. The student-athletes (divided into MAYAN HOUSES) competed in different disciplines such as soccer, basketball, volleyball, track & field and cross country. As they played, each team accumulated points or IX CACAOS. It was a great event where the student-athletes learned to compete fairly and interact with others. We congratulate the Athletic Department for the superb organization of its first on site event! Pre-School Book Week Last week was “Book Week” in our Pre School! Students celebrated “the love” of reading. They had different events throughout the week. They carried out the Reading Buddies Activity by reading aloud to Pre Kinder students. Parents were also invited to the Jefferson Valle Media Center to read together with their children. Some parents volunteered as ‘‘Guest Readers’’ who visited and read to the entire class. The students had so much fun! We want to thank all the guest readers and teachers who made a HUGE difference in the academic growth of our little eagles. HOORAY for ‘‘Book Week’’!

Greek Theater 5th grade and 10th grade students concluded their Greek Unit by presenting skits from different famous Greek plays. 10th grade presented King Oedipus, while 5th grade carried out performances of short mythological stories. Kudos to these great actors, and teachers Mrs. Zoila Busmail (Ninth & Tenth Grade Spanish Teacher), and Ms. Gisela Flores (Fifth Grade Language Arts Teacher) for their hard work, and for planting the seed of art, culture and expression in their students.

College Fairs Last week our HS Counseling Department hosted two College Fairs. One, on campus, Catholic College Admission Association, with 13 recognized universities that came to recruit and talk about what the different opportunities for students at their universities. The other one was held at Universidad TecnolĂłgica HondureĂąa (UTH) where our juniors had the opportunity to learn and talk with recruiters from more than 20 universities from all over the world. For this fair at UTH, our Dining Hall catered and showcased desserts elaborated by Annette Erazo, Chef and Senior 2018! Second Grade Library STEM Project Second graders read the book Little Red Riding Hood. In this version of the story the wolf ripped Red Riding Hood’s basket, so the students were supposed to rebuild it. First they had to PLAN, then CREATE, and lastly, TEST the basket. Great Job Second graders, you have brilliant minds!

ALUMNI CORNER (RED ROCKETS) Sometimes we take school friendships for granted, not knowing what they will bring in the future; but sometimes this friendships grows to achieve dreams and goals”. Daniel Frañó (‘10), Daniel Fléfil (‘10), and Gabriel Fléfil (‘15) have been friends since they were kids inside the walls of AST. Upon graduation they chose different career paths: Daniel Frañó (Degree in Communications and Publicity in UNITEC), Daniel Fléfil (Degree in Law School in CEUTEC ), and Gabriel Fléfil (Marketing Student at CEUTEC). However, a dream in common has kept them together. Ever since their years high school, RED ROCKETS was something they wanted to achieve. Years of practice, garage concerts and infinite badly covered songs have resulted in the formation of a music style forged through their friendship and similar music taste. The project started in 2012 with many ideas, great aspirations, but an incomplete band. Perseverance lead to creativity and the ability of finding great new friends and great musicians such as Ivan Saldivar/singer, and Eduardo Moreno/drummer. As the development of new songs grew, opportunities, trial and error, as well as new knowledge which paved the way and gave the project the first opportunity to show themselves to the world. Today RED ROCKETS has already launched their first EP, four songs that will show you their quality, strength, and rock n’ roll vibes with much more to come ahead; thereby hoping it transcends outside the boundaries of our country and seeks to achieve what no local band has achieved before in our country! We are happy to state that dreams can be real! And this one was forged proudly inside AST’s walls!
