Elementary Science Fair All our ES students were very much engaged in last week’s Science Fair. Creative projects and well prepared presentations were this fair’s trademark. We want to thank all the teachers that worked hard every day to promote student learning and success. Projects included: volcano eruptions, soda explosions, plant growth, and many more. Great job Elementary School students!

HACIA Democracy HACIA Democracy’s annual conference for 2018 was held in Cartagena, Colombia. The conference simulates the proceedings of the Organization of American States (OAS). “HACIA offers an unparalleled experience to all its participants, where the primary goal is to provide delegates with an opportunity to discuss and practice democracy through different forums.” Our students Natalia Santos, Valentina Atala, Patricia Castillo, Luciana Paz, Luciana Morazán, Anelisa Toledo, Eduardo Kafati, Felipe Maduro, Rodrigo Figueroa, Eduardo Maduro, Daniel Brevé, Pedro Atala, and club advisors Mrs. Justa Corea, and Ms. Virginia Espinoza represented AST in this important conference.
GIN Conference Our GIN club lead by Ms. Maricí Girón and Ms. Karen Hesse, represented AST in San Jose, Costa Rica at this year’s GIN conference ‘‘Breaking Mindset, Empowering Change’’. Our students Lucrecia Retes, Gianna Roman, Juliette Handal, Adriana Zablah, Georgette Tugliani, and Ana Mirella Royer participated in different forums where they learned to become familiar with the organizational strategies and the ideologies of social movement leaders, both local and global, who have created a lasting change.

Eagle Tots Handball Closing Ceremony Our Eagle Tots Handball season ended with a nice closing ceremony. Congratulations to all our little Eagles who trained hard, learned new skills and put all their heart into the games. We also thank Coach Bryan Torres for all his hard work and commitment with these promising athletes! #GoEagles
First Grade Toy Drive First graders collected toys during the month of November and December 2017. These toys were delivered by their first grade teachers to the children of the Guarderías de Nueva Suyapa. With this heartfelt activity first graders were introduced to our elementary school’s Giving Program! ‘‘Help yourself by helping others’’ – John Templeton

Kids Athletics Closing Ceremony Last Saturday Mach 10, parents enjoyed the Kids Athletics season’s closing ceremony by watching different competitions where the children demonstrated and put into practice all the skills learned in the past months. It was a great turnout! We want to thank the Athletic Department for offering these new opportunities to our kids.
Middle School Assembly Middle School had their monthly Character Education assembly with guest speaker Mr. Michael Sundlin (Seventh Grade English Teacher) who addressed the students about the importance of Discipline and how to apply it to their lives. The assembly was led by Gabriela Maradiaga, Andrea Díaz, and Ana Lucía Cáceres.

Alumni Corner EVAGRACE TORRES (06’) Our Alumna Evagrace Torres is a promising talent of the Honduran Cinematography. After graduating from AST Evagrace attended DePaul University in Chicago where she majored in the arts, dramatic sciences, and cinematography. During her college career she had the opportunity to meet a lot of directors, actors, and producers that were working in the area around that time. She worked in different movie sets like Public Enemies, Transformers, Batman, among others. She started working as seamstress for the pilot series of HBO/3NET and on a documentary for the Top Chef winner, Stephanie Izard. She gained experience and produced her first short story and feature film called Southern Comfort. Afterwards, she moved to Washington D.C. and worked as Assistant Editor for Ciesla Foundation. Here she worked for Aviva Kempner where she had the opportunity to edit a tribute to famous Poland Director, Agniezka Holland. This tribute inspired her to go back to Honduras and work for her country, as well as motivate other women to succeed. Currently, she is working with Honduran Director Jurek Jablonicky as General Producer of Jablo Productions (Company created by Jurek and Evagrace). She is also working with Alumni Aeden O’Connor (’13). We wish Evagrace the best in this new project, and thank her deeply for being such a good ambassador of AST and Honduras in the cinematography industry.
