Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica The members of S.H.H. were visited by the children patients of ‘‘Fundación Hondureña para el Niño con Cancer’’ (FUHNICER) last week. The children along with our students carried out a painting workshop and had a joyful time. The S.H.H. members and their advisor Mrs. Zoila Busmail (HS Spanish Teacher) are making a recipe book illustrated by the kids to raise funds for FUNHICER. ABSH Knowledge Bowl The ABSH Knowledge Bowl was held in La Ceiba from February 8th to February 10th at Santa Teresa Bilingual School. AST participated in the Middle School and Junior Varsity categories. This competition promotes camaraderie among teens who feel passion for knowledge in Math, Science, History, Geography and General Knowledge. We congratulate our Knowledge Bowl coaches and advisors Ms. Carol Martinez and Ms. Mackenzie Borja, as well as our fantastic Knowledge Ball team (who despite having fewer participants than the other teams due to the impossibility of travel of several club members) for representing our school with pride and tons of knowledge at the tournament. We feel extremely proud of our teams' achievements and congratulate them on their hard work!

Elementary ‘‘Ortografía’’ Contest We had our ‘‘Concurso Oral de Ortografía’’ in Elementary School. Our students competed against each other (by grade) for three long days. We want to congratulate all our ES students for their hard work, dedication and compromise. Special thanks to our Elementary School teachers: Ms. Heidy Quiñonez, Ms. Nidia Barahona, Ms. Anita Roman, Ms. Janice Bueso, Ms. Yadira Muñoz, and Ms. Anna Melissa Alonzo. Middle School Assembly ‘‘Our February Middle School Assembly was hosted by 8th grade students Karim Faraj and Natalia Nasser. In this particular assembly our guest speaker was Mr. Alex Godoy (MS Physical Education Teacher) who delivered a lecture about values and sports. We also had several 8th graders who talked about the importance of the “values” assigned school wide for the month of February. ‘‘Keep your values positive because your values become your destiny’’ – Mahatma Gandhi
Pre School: First Day for HOUSES in Kinder Kinder students had their first HOUSE meeting. It was a really fun time, where the kids met their House Parent and their House buddies. This is a great way to introduce our HOUSES program (1st-12th) to the little ones. They played games to improve motor skills and team work, but most importantly they learned the history of their House name. With this activity, our little ones definitely felt closer to the BIG SCHOOL!

Cooking Club Our High School Cooking Club learned how to prepare cheese hors d’oeuvres and a delicious rib-eye steak in last week’s class. The class was taught by special guest and Chef Bradford Capozzi, our (HS World Civilization and English teacher 9th grade). Thank you Mr. Capozzi for volunteering and teaching our students your culinary expertise!
Jose Eduardo Flores - Eagle Cup Our Athletic Department coordinated the first Eagle Cup Inauguration Ceremony last Friday. This season fifth and sixth graders are playing basketball. This tournament is named in honor of José Eduardo Flores, our Business Office’s Treasurer. José Eduardo gracefully greets parents and students on a daily basis at the Business Office, making their money transactions a pleasant experience at AST. Thank you José Eduardo for all your hard work and dedication to AST! Come and support our Eagles in this great tournament!

Alumni Corner Margit Beatriz Börcsök Villeda (’87) Alumna Margit Börcsök is recognized and well known as a great Mathematician. After finishing her studies at Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Honduras she started teaching math at Antares School and later on at Macris School. While teaching at these schools she found out that students needed extra help for their math classes, and she opened a Math Academy. With 17 years of experience, Margit runs one of the best math academies in Tegucigalpa ‘‘Escuela de Matematicas MB.’’ Her school has earned a lot of prestige because of the excellent results; every year hundreds of students of all ages prepare for GRE, SAT, GMAT, among others exams, and also in any kind of math tutoring. A lot of our students at AST attend MB school for tutoring and reinforcement. Starting this year Margit started working really close with the American School’s math program. She is a consultant constantly evaluating student growth. She also works closely with the administration to improve curriculum and math policies. Margit is also a consultant to the Honduran Government, USAID, and different schools, and businesses. Aside from mathematics, Margit is passionate about politics and writing. She has written a variety of articles as well as Math books. She also loves to Scuba Dive and nature. Congratulations to Margit on your outstanding career! #Proudeagle
