Dr. Seuss/Book Week Celebration (PS) Pre School students enjoyed different activities during the week as they celebrated Dr. Seuss’ birthday and Book Week.
Pre Kinder and Kinder gathered at the Performing Arts Center to watch ‘‘Dr. Seuss on the Loose’’ as part of Dr. Seuss’ week!

Dr. Seuss/Book Week Celebration (ES) During the last week, our Elementary students participated in various activities to commemorate Dr. Seuss birthday and Book Week. These activities included watching the movie ‘‘The Lorax’’ in the Performing Arts Center, having a Dr. Seuss party in the Library, and a visit from the Cat in the Hat. Kudos to our ES Librarians for an amazing week!

Science Fair 4th Grade (ES) 4th graders demonstrated their scientific skills at the Science Fair. Our Eagles conducted a range of experiments and ongoing research to finally present their final projects. Congratulations to the fourth grade teachers and students for enlightening us this past week.

Library 6th grade class visits Meliponario Beechii (MS) (ES)This semester’s sixth grade library class students discovered new fun facts about bees, their importance to our environment and how to protect them. This was explained by beekeeper expert Ricardo Díaz at the Meliponario Beechii. Our eagles brought back plants to the school to start their own garden. Thank you Ms. Tali Tomé for organizing this fieldtrip.

Alumni Corner En Memoria de Doña Matilde de Izaguirre ‘‘Esta educadora y extraordinaria mujer nació en Puerto Cortés un 17 de noviembre de 1922, logrando obtener un enorme bagaje cultural. Con su esposo Don Carlos Izaguirre, procrearon dos hijos: Aquiles (QDDG) y Lottie. Comenzó su vida profesional como educadora en el ramo de primaria, tanto en Puerto Cortés como en Tegucigalpa. Fue profesora de español en los Institutos de Tegucigalpa: Héctor Pineda Ugarte, Central, Gregg, Escuela Normal de Señoritas. En 1950 ingresa a nuestra amada ESCUELA AMERICANA, en ese entonces ubicada frente al cuartel San Francisco, a servir la asignatura de Español, época que fungía como fundadora y directora de este centro educativo, la Sra. Mary Quinlan de Sager y como Subdirectora la Profesora, María Teresa Castro. Mrs. Sager tomaba muy en cuenta toda sugerencia que Mrs. Izaguirre aportaba, ejemplo: se iniciaron Cursos de Secretariado donde salieron las primeras graduadas. Siendo Rector Mr. Miller concedió un viaje al exterior a Mrs. Izaguirre para estudiar Administración Educativa e Inglés. A su regreso, se retira la Sra. Sager y tomó Mrs. Izaguirre, la Dirección hasta el año 1990. En el año 1983 asumió el cargo de Rectora y Directora. Fue promotora de los Cursos de Inglés, los que se mantienen con mucho éxito, dando gran apoyo a esta comunidad. Fueron tantos años de trabajo y dedicación a la ESCUELA AMERICANA y a la vez con su esposo Don Carlos Izaguirre fueron co-fundadores de la Gran Fraternidad Universal, Institución donde se imparte: Clases de Yoga, Cursos de Comida Vegetariana, entre otros. Aunque Mrs. Izaguirre ya no esté con nosotros, sus enseñanzas y cariño se mantienen vivos en cantidad de alumnos(as) padres de familia y ex compañeros. Alumni Corner In Memoriam Mrs. Matilde de Izaguirre Mrs. Matilde was born in Puerto Cortes on November 17, 1921. She began her professional life as an educator in the primary school in Puerto CortĂŠs and later in Tegucigalpa. She was a Spanish teacher at the following institutions: Hector Pineda Ugarte, Central, Gregg and Escuela Normal de SeĂąoritas. In 1950 she entered the American School, located in front of the San Francisco barracks, to teach Spanish. Mrs. Mary Quinlan de Sager (Founder and Director), always took into account Mrs. Izaguirre's suggestions, for example, Secretarial courses were started. Mr. Miller (Rector of the American School at that time), granted a trip to Mrs. Izaguirre to study Educational Administration and English. Upon her return, Mrs. Sager retires and Mrs. Izaguirre takes the Direction until the year 1990. In 1983 she assumed the position of Rector and Director. She was a promoter of the after school adult English Courses and dedicated many years of her life to the American School. Together with her husband Don Carlos Izaguirre, they were co-founders of the Gran Fraternidad Universal, an institution where Yoga classes, Vegetarian Food Courses, Self-Improvement Workshops and others are taught. Mrs. Izaguirre has two children: Aquiles (RIP) and Lottie, to whom we give our deepest condolences. Although Mrs. Izaguirre is no longer with us, her teachings and legacy will be kept alive within the AST family. Thank you Mrs. Matilde! Rest in Peace
