IB Art Exhibit IB (12) Art students organized the program’s yearly exhibit in the recently inaugurated Performing Arts Center. The theme adopted by this year’s class: “Skeksis”, which means species. A memorable part of the event was the presentation of three of our IB ART students, engaging music and dance as an art form. Seniors 2018, Jesús Aguilar and María Isabel Sacasa sang a song written by Jesús Aguilar, while also Senior 2018 Raquel Faraj accompanied with an outstanding ballet routine. It was an incredible night full of young talent plastered in a myriad of paintings, sculptures, music and artwork. We would like to give special recognition to our IB Art teacher Mr. Otero, and Middle School Art Teacher Ms. Pamela Callejas for leading this great event. A huge thank you to music teachers Mr. Marco Ferrera, and Mr. Edwin Cardona for providing the musical ambiance in the center’s Lobby. Congratulations to all the IB ART students who presented their art and talent at the Eagles’ Nest! #GoEagles

Elementary School Science Fair Awards CONGRATULATIONS to all our Elementary School Science Fair winners! For an entire week our Multipurpose Room was host to authentic STEM projects at this year’s Science Fair. All the presentations were top quality, displaying hard work and effort. We take this opportunity to congratulate our Elementary School Science Department and all the ES teachers for their great support and guidance to our young aspiring scientists. Science is a way of thinking much more than it is a body of knowledge. – Carl Sagan

3rd grade field trip to Chiminike – Reino de Dragones 3rd grade went on a field trip to Chiminike’s newest temporary exhibit Reino de Dragones. The third grade teachers included this visit as part of their lesson plans for Language Arts, as part of their fantasy writing unit. The dragon journey will expand their imagination, make them create new ideas, and explore their creativity in the classroom. They also learned about a lot of different types of dragons, and of course had tons of fun!
Middle School Shark Tank Inventions Middle School students and the Science Department gave a twist to the traditional science fair and developed inventions to present to judges emulating TV’s popular “SHARK TANK”. The Science Department then presented all the inventions in a creative exhibit along Middle School’s hallway, led by Science Department Head and STEM COACH Mrs. Marici Girón. Once again our students demonstrated all their talent and imagination through their mind boggling inventions. CONGRATS ALL!

STUCO Field Day STUCO Field Day 2017-2018! Another great FIELD DAY marked the beginning of this year’s Easter Break! STUCO did an outstanding job organizing the event. Congratulations to our Seniors 2018 (HIGH SCHOOL) and the Class of 2026 (MIDDLE SCHOOL) who won the Field Day trophies by accumulating the most points. A true Eagle tradition filled with fun and surprises.

Elementary STUCO Tuti’s Sale Elementary STUCO is working hard to reach their goal: purchasing a TREE HOUSE for the ES playground. Their first fundraiser was a huge success: A Tuti’s (frozen yogurt) Sale. The group collected L23, 814.00 thanks to the support of all the ES students, parents and staff. Special thanks to Mrs. Lucía Melara for donating most of the product. It was a huge success. ES STUCO has more fundraising activities planned for the remaining of the school year. Be on the lookout for more opportunities to collaborate to this great effort.

Puberty Conference As part of our Character ED program, 6th grade students received a lecture on ‘‘Puberty’’, delivered by certified Doctors from Por Salud. We want to thank Dr. Andino and Dra. Vallejo for visiting our school and addressing such an important topic with our middle schoolers.

Movie Night ‘‘Coco’’ On Friday night, the PTO and Global Issues Network (GIN) club hosted the AST Movie night to raise funds for GIN! It was a fun night where kids and adults shared laughs and enjoyed the Oscar Animated Feature Film Winner ‘‘COCO‘‘. Our cafeteria catered the event with delicious hot dogs, nachos, and popcorn to create the full cinema experience. We want to thank all the people that came to support the cause! Special thanks to the PTO and GIN members for organizing this memorable night!

Alumni Corner ROSEMONDE ABBEDRABO (’78) Alumna Rosemonde Abbedrabo (Munda) is a warrior who fights every day to help others. After her graduation in 1978, she went to Houston to pursue her college dream. She returned and started working in her family business Rivoli. Mother of four alumnae, Munda volunteered her time and served as Vice President of the Board of Directors of the American School for four years. After winning her own battle against breast cancer, Munda decided to help other women by creating awareness as well as providing the tools to help other women beat this terrible disease. Munda is one of the founding members of the Fundación Hondureña contra el Cáncer de Mama (FUNHOCAM) where she has been working for the last ten years. She started as member, later on she was elected Vicepresident and now she is the President. We congratulate Rosemonde for all her hard work, and for fighting day by day for the women’s lives.
