Measures of Academic Progress In the month of September, students in grades 3-10 will take MAP® Growth tests to determine readiness in the areas of math, reading and language usage. MAP tests are characterized as adaptive, meaning they adjust to the appropriate level of learning for your child. As a result, each student has the same opportunity to succeed and maintain a positive attitude toward testing. On average, students complete each test in 50 minutes. After testing, a Student Goal Setting Worksheet will be created for each student identifying actions he or she will take to meet the desired growth goal for the next testing season, which will take place in the month of April. Our primary objective is for students to achieve their projected academic growth. Teachers, counselors, and special support staff have been trained on the analysis and interpretation of MAP results in order to effectively use the data from these tests to differentiate instruction and best meet each student’s needs. What can you do to help? Make sure your child is getting adequate sleep (minimum 8 hours per night), has a healthy breakfast, and arrives to school on time. We also encourage you to make an appointment with your child’s Math or English teacher to discuss his/her academic performance. We are committed to help each child grow to his or her best potential. Medidas de Progreso Académico En el mes de septiembre, los alumnos de 3ero-10mo grado tomarán la prueba de MAP® Growth para determinar su nivel de competencia en las áreas de matemáticas, lectura y uso del lenguaje en Inglés. Las pruebas MAP son únicas ya que se adaptan al nivel de aprendizaje de su hijo(a). Debido a esto, cada estudiante tiene la misma oportunidad de tener éxito y mantener una actitud positiva hacia el examen. En promedio, los alumnos completan cada prueba en 50 minutos. Una vez completada la prueba, se creará una Hoja de Metas del Estudiante, la cual identifica las acciones que él o ella hará para cumplir con la meta de crecimiento deseada para la próxima temporada de prueba, la cual tendrá lugar en el mes de abril. Nuestro principal objetivo es que los alumnos alcancen el crecimiento académico proyectado. Los maestros, consejeros y personal de apoyo especial han sido capacitados en el análisis e interpretación de los resultados de MAP con el fin de utilizar eficazmente los datos de estas pruebas para diferenciar la instrucción y satisfacer mejor las necesidades de cada alumno. ¿Qué pueden hacer los padres en casa? Asegurar que su hijo(a) duerma al menos ocho horas diarias, desayune bien y no falte a la escuela. We have completed our first month of school and we are off to a fantastic start. Thank you parents for coming to our Open House. Communication between school and home will positively impact student performance. In September we will focus on Loyalty through our different Independence Month activities. On Friday we will begin with an assembly for students focusing on our National Anthem and flag. On Monday September 4th, Nursery students will not have school due to teacher professional development. Kinder students will be dismissed at 12:20 p.m. Pre Kinder students will have a regular school day. On Friday September 8th, we will have a Free Colors day due to Children’s Day. We wish all Pre School Students a great day on September 10th. On Monday September 11th, Progress Reports will go home for those students experiencing academic difficulties. If your child receives one, please sign and return the next day. On Wednesday September 13th, we will have the Pre School parade for Pre Kinder and Kinder students at 8:00 a.m. on the Elementary covered court. Parents please park in the back parking lot and proceed directly to the court. Student will meet you there. We hope everyone has a great Independence Holiday on Thursday September 14 and Friday September 15th. We will not have school on these days. On Thursday September 21st, we will celebrate Peace Day. Students may wear white clothes on this day. On Friday September 22nd, we will have a Lps. 5.00 Colors Day. Students wishing to participate may wear color clothes and contribute Lps. 5.00. Hemos completado nuestro primer mes de escuela y hemos tenido un fantástico inicio de año. Gracias padres de familia por venir a nuestro Open House. La comunicación entre la escuela y el hogar resulta en un rendimiento positivo para los alumnos. En septiembre nos centraremos en la Lealtad a través de nuestras diferentes actividades del Mes de la Independencia. El viernes comenzaremos con una asamblea para los alumnos enfocada a nuestro Himno Nacional y La Bandera. El lunes 4 de septiembre, los alumnos de Nursery no tendrán clases debido a una capacitación para los maestros. Los alumnos de Kinder saldrán a las 12:20 p.m. Los alumnos de Pre Kinder tendrán un día normal de escuela. El viernes 8 de septiembre, tendremos un Día de Color gratis debido al Día del Niño. Les deseamos a todos los estudiantes de Pre Escolar un gran día en este día 10 de septiembre. El lunes 11 de septiembre, se enviarán Progress Report a casa para los alumnos que experimentan dificultades académicas. Si su hijo recibe uno, favor firmar y regresar al día siguiente. El miércoles 13 de septiembre, tendremos el desfile de Pre School para los alumnos de Pre Kinder y Kinder a las 8:00 a.m. en la cancha techada de Primaria. Padres de familia por favor estacionarse en el estacionamiento sur y proceder directamente a la cancha. Los alumnos llegarán allí. Esperamos que todos tengan un gran feriado de Independencia el jueves 14 y el viernes 15 de septiembre. No tendremos clases en estos días. El jueves 21 de septiembre, celebraremos el Día de la Paz. Los alumnos pueden vestir ropa blanca en este día. El viernes 22 de septiembre, tendremos un Día de Color con un valor de Lps. 5.00 Los alumnos que deseen participar pueden usar ropa de color y contribuir con Lps. 5.00. Que tengan un excelente mes!
We are so happy that we are having a wonderful start of the school year. The students seem enthusiastic about coming back to see friends and meet their teachers. Special thanks: To the parents who are sending items to the different classroom which were on the class wish lists. We have received treats for students, ziploc bags, construction paper, plastic baskets and pillows, among other items. As parents begin using Power School, we want to remind you that the Elementary input grades for every class once a week. Our students are assessed based on standards and therefore will assess them at different times. Remember our goal is to achieve Mastery at the end of the year, so right now you will only see A-, A or B. Also, special teachers (Music, P.E, Library, Art and Computers) do not assess as frequently as the homeroom and Spanish teacher because they only see the students once or twice a week. Do not worry if grades are not posted as frequently as in those other classes. Remember the report cards show grades for the special teachers on a semester basis, not on a quarterly basis. What you will see for these classes are Work Habits only, 1st and 3rd Quarters. A reminder to all parents to please check all of your children’s teachers’ sites. In the Elementary the weekly information is posted Friday afternoon. You must click on one of your child’s grades to view the teacher’s site. Also a very important reminder to make an appointment with your child’s teacher if you have a concern/question. Please call the office so we can leave a note for the teacher to get back to you and in gr. 2-5, a note in the Assignment Notebook will do the trick. Teachers hold the information and out of respect, it is important you meet with them first if you want to ask something related to your child. The Elementary Office is always open if your need to discuss your concerns further. Thank you so much to the parents who wait for students at designated areas at dismissal time. Having clear halls help walk the children faster and in a safer way. Always let teacher know when you are taking him/her out of the line so they do not worry when they do not find your child at the bus or car areas at the end.
Important also is that you send a written note to the homeroom teacher if your child will be leaving school with a friend or someone different than the normal procedure. Students should not be making these arrangements from school. A note must be sent by the parent the day of. Teachers are working on a common discipline code and during the first 3 weeks have worked on classroom procedures. Beginning this week you will notice students will be doing more in than out of class. Please check sites, Assignment Notebook and the School Info e-mails so you keep up with what is happening. Un agradecimiento especial: Para los padres que están enviando donaciones a las diferentes aulas de clases. Hemos recibido paraguas, regalos para los alumnos, bolsas ziploc, papel de construcción, recipientes plásticos y almohadas, entre otros. Mientras que los padres comienzan a utilizar Power School, deseamos recordarles que la Primaria ingresa notas una por semana semana. Los estudiantes son evaluados basados en estándares y por lo tanto los evaluaran en diversos momentos. Nuestra meta es alcanzar Dominio Pleno (Mastery) al final del año, así que ahora solo verá, A- A, o B. Además, los maestros especiales (Música, Educación Física, Biblioteca, Arte y Computación) no ven a los alumnos con tanta frecuencia como los maestros de aula y maestros de español, ya que solo ven a los estudiantes una vez o dos veces por semana. No se preocupe si las calificaciones no se publican con tanta frecuencia como en las otras clases. Recuerde que las calificaciones que muestran los maestros especiales son semestral, no trimestral. Lo que podrá ver en estas clases son sólo Hábitos de Trabajo para 1er y 3er trimestre. Un recordatorio a todos los padres que por favor, revisen los sitios de los maestros de sus hijos. En la primaria la información es publicada semanalmente el viernes por la tarde. Usted solo tiene que dar clic en una de las calificaciones de su hijo para lograr ver el sitio del maestro. Para hacer una cita con el maestro de su hijo si usted tiene alguna duda o pregunta, por favor llame a la Oficina de Primaria para poder enviar el mensaje o una nota para que él/ella se ponga en contacto con usted. Para los grados de 2-5 pueden utilizar el Assignment Notebook ya que este se debe revisar diario tanto por el maestro como por ustedes. El maestro tiene la información y por respeto, es importante que se reúna con ellos primero en lo que refiere a su hijo. Sin embargo, las puertas de la Oficina de la Primaria siempre están abiertas si usted necesita hablar sobre algo concerniente a sus hijos o extender su conversación preliminar con el maestro. Muchas gracias los padres de los estudiantes que esperan a en las áreas designadas a la hora de salida. Mantener despejado ayuda a caminar más rápido y en forma más segura a los niños. Siempre hágale saber al maestro cuando los retiran de la línea para que no se preocupen si no lo encuentran después en el área de los buses o en los parqueos.
Es muy importante que envíe una nota por escrito al maestro del aula si su hijo se irá con un amigo o con alguna otra persona. Los niños no deben tomar estas decisiones en la escuela. Una nota por escrito debe ser enviada por el padre autorizando el permiso. Los maestros todos están trabajando con un código de disciplina general para toda la Primaria. Durante las primeras 3 semanas han trabajado en las clases con procedimientos y reglas a seguir. A partir de esta semana se darán cuenta que los estudiantes están trabajando más dentro que fuera de clases. Por favor revise los sitios, Assignment Notebook y correos que envía la escuela para que estén bien informados. Gracias por todo su colaboración estas primeras semanas de clases. The first quarter is over Friday October 13th. Report cards will go home on Wednesday October 25th. For those who achieved the coveted Honor and High honor roll awards, they will receive invitations for their parents to be present on October 30th after school. The Golden Talon recipients, given to those students who have perfect attendance and punctuality during the entire first Quarter, as well as the Value Student of the Month Award recipients will receive awards that day.
El primer parcial se acaba el viernes 13 de octubre. Las boletas de calificaciones se irán a casa el miércoles 25 de octubre. Para los que lograron estar en la codiciada lista de honor y altos honor, recibirán invitaciones para que sus padres estén presentes el 30 de octubre en la ceremonia a celebrarse después de escuela.
