The Stars & Stripes Award teaches girls perseverance, self-respect, and a strong feeling of satisfaction. The goal of the Stars & Stripes Award is the experience and the realization of the servant’s heart that is needed to lead with integrity and humility. The award procedure and project blesses a candidate’s community and develops her skills in organization, communication, time management, and project management.

Dear Friends,

Welcome to the 2020-2021 Stars & Stripes Salute, an annual publication that honors the year’s recipients of AHG’s most prestigious award. This year’s award recipients have demonstrated incredible stamina in earning this pinnacle award during a global pandemic. Each recipient cited God’s faithfulness during their journey, as well as their need to persevere and deal with adversity. These girls are the hope for the future. They have learned to look at problems as opportunities. They have embraced the challenges of closures and social distancing, utilizing their creativity and support systems to achieve the seemingly unachievable. When I review each Project Summary Report, Spiritual Walk Essay, and Resume, I am amazed and grateful for the blessings the Lord has poured out upon these amazing young ladies.

The Stars & Stripes Award is not for the faint of heart. It flexes each girl’s leadership muscle. By the close of the journey, girls have: demonstrated an ability to identify a cause or found a need in the community for which they have passion, managed a large project, recruited volunteers to serve in their cause, publicized the need raising necessary funds for the project, documented their journey, participated in a Board of Review, reflected on the impact of AHG on their life and the growth of their spiritual walk during those years as well as compiled their first resume. The skills acquired during their long journey are sure to buoy them through their adult years.

My spiritual walk is like a garden. My garden hasn’t always been one of beauty and order. There have been times where it has been overgrown, full of weeds and thorny spurs. Times of drought and fruitlessness. Being diagnosed recently with a rare brain disease has been like a see-saw for me. As I grapple with questions like “Why me?”, “What did I do to cause this?”, “Why would God allow this for me?”, or “Why does God have this in His plan, for what purpose?” I have to keep telling myself that God’s got this or else I have nothing to hold on to, no handle on this see-saw. He is my handle, if I don’t hold onto Him, I’ll slide right off into oblivion of doubt and misery. It’s a necessity to remember that God has a purpose and a plan. He knows what He wants to do with me, how He wants me to grow.

On my last campout we were confronted with wind gusts that knocked down and broke part of our brand new tent and were threatening to blow the tent away. As my dad and I were holding up the sides of the tent from the inside I began to pray and ask God to calm the wind and allow us to have a break. Each time I prayed, the wind got stronger. I knew that He heard me, but was testing my faith and showing me that I was strong

enough to handle the situation. I am convinced that God spoke to me through those winds. He was telling me that I could handle it, but that it would only be if I keep Him as my lifeline. That I need to talk to Him and rely on Him for my strength and that He will be my strength when I am weak.

Perseverant has always been the one AHG Creed word that stands out for me. God gave me that word when I was just six years old and it is a word that I still cling to today. God has allowed me to endure storms and hardships to give me the opportunity to be perseverant. My garden is still not weed free, but there are so many beautiful flowers. There are still thorns, but those thorns are on the stems of wild climbing roses that God is growing in my life. He is using the difficulties in my life to draw me closer to Him and calling me into a relationship that will be deeper and stronger because of the struggles I have and will continue to face.

Why did you choose to serve as a Stars & Stripes Award Mentor?

Isabella is one of our founding Girl Members, and her mother has been a loyal volunteer in our Troop for six years, so when Isabella asked me to serve as her Stars & Stripes Award Mentor, I prayerfully and then gladly accepted. I love AHG and currently have three granddaughters in the program, so I’m “paying it forward” and hoping that another leader will be there to mentor my granddaughters when their time comes to pursue earning their Stars & Stripes Award. There’s nothing like it to help girls truly develop into women of integrity.

What was the most rewarding moment you’ve experienced as a Mentor?

I loved watching Isabella persevere through hardships and unplanned events and then realize she can survive and succeed.

Doing the project description was (rightfully) a challenge, but Isabella’s final product was fabulous!

The role of a Stars & Stripes Award Mentor is to guide, encourage, listen, pray, and support the Stars & Stripes Award Candidate.

How long have you served?

Can you provide a few recommendations on how to support a girl through the award journey?

Emphasize to the Stars & Stripes Award Candidate that this is her project and that you expect her to take the initiative. Resist the urge to “babysit” her through the process, but do check in with her if she’s not initiating regular contact with you. And pray, pray, pray!

I have served for five engaging years. I felt called to the position when my daughter was a Pioneer. While she didn’t feel called to complete the Stars & Stripes Award, I have loved every minute of working with the older girls. This continues to be a great experience.

What is the most import aspect in your role?

To me, it seems that the most important portion of my role is to guide both mentors and candidates. When a candidate and her mentor first receive the Stars & Stripes Award Procedure Packet the amount of information can seem overwhelming. I have found that by reminding new candidates that the packet is laid out step by step, and that while an overview is important, just taking the process step by step to a successful completion is the best route.

What brings you great joy?

It thrills me to see candidates soar. So many candidates that I have worked with have stretched themselves beyond what they thought they were capable of. I love to read the Project Summary Reports, especially the portion where candidates write about how they were able to lean into God, drawing strength from their Father. The candidate’s growth, strength, faithfulness, and enthusiasm are contagious.

Advice for hopeful future candidates: Follow the process laid out in the Stars & Stripes Award Procedure Packet. Don’t let little things distract you from the big picture. Lean on God and allow the process to be one that He guides you to. It’s amazing what you can accomplish when you have asked for God to light your path!

Project: Built a storage shed for King’s Academy JROTC

Most rewarding part of your Stars & Stripes Award process: I knew it would have many challenges, mostly from the funding. But the fundraising turned out to be the place where God provided the most. He provided the funds right when we needed them.

Favorite memory or experience in AHG: My Mentor alone has been the greatest influence on my life. She was my leader when I first joined and has been my leader every year except for one. She was in the Air Force and honestly is my favorite leader.

Project: Created a ministry to provide freezer meals each month to foster parents through Fostering Hope

Future plans: I plan to go into the Physical Therapy Assistant program at my college and graduate.

Favorite memory or experience in AHG: A camp out about five years ago at Shark Tooth Creek. An unexpected windstorm blew up and swept our camp away. Tents were flying everywhere while leaders piled the children into vans to leave. Nobody got hurt, but it was the most exciting experience camping I ever had!

Project: Constructed a pergola shade structure for Animal Friends Humane Society

Favorite Bible verse: Esther 4:14; I like this verse because it reminds me that I have a purpose and I was created for a reason. I need to always be prepared, ready, and looking for the work that God has called me to accomplish.

Share what you have been up to since earning the Stars & Stripes Award: I have been attending The University of Findlay and pursuing a degree in Animal Science/Pre-Vet. I am in the campus Habitat for Humanity club, where we do a lot of construction which I feel that constructing the shade structure prepared me well for.

Project: Built 12 acoustic panels and a lockable cabinet for Discovery Church

Most rewarding experience during your Stars & Stripes Award process: Hearing the difference in the sanctuary once the acoustic panels were installed was amazing. It was wonderful to know that they worked as planned and were appreciated.

Advice for future Stars & Stripes Award Candidates: Don’t give up. God is helping you, even when you can’t see it. Remember that you aren’t doing this alone and let your family and friends help you. Remember to pray. Even though the process will be hard, try to notice how God is working. This is God’s project, not yours.

Project: Renovated the church office for New Day Christian Church

Advice for future Stars & Stripes Award Candidates: Accept flexibility when things do not always go according to plan. It can be discouraging, of course, for things to sometimes slightly derail, but learning how to resolve delays or conflicts really displays how a leader should cope with unplanned situations.

Favorite memory or experience in AHG: It has taught me not only to be a leader, but also why it is important to learn to work with others as a team.

Project: Built a six-seat swing set, monkey bars, a gaga ball pit, and painted a hopscotch robot and four square on a cement slab for Everyday Blessings

Most rewarding experience during your Stars & Stripes Award process: Seeing the implementation complete and witnessing pure joy from the children’s smiles.

Advice for future Stars & Stripes Award Candidates: Never give up! God has you in this place for a reason, and He has given you a spark of inspiration to shine your light and glory to those in despair.

Advice for future Stars & Stripes Award Candidates: “Just keep swimming!” –Dori, Finding Nemo. The process is a marathon, not a sprint. Just keep moving forward with the guidance of your Mentor and SSPA.

Most rewarding part of your Stars & Stripes Award process: I have grown spiritually from this experience. I needed to trust God for the outcome. What an amazing experience when right at the end, I could see the vision come to life. It was a high point, but I had to work hard to get there.

Project: Built a Serenity Garden and renovated the Marshall Smith Butterfly Way Station at Cedar Creek Park

Favorite Bible verse: Psalm 28:7 because the Lord has always been my strength when I needed Him in good times and bad times. I have learned to trust that He will always be there for me no matter what.

Advice for future Stars & Stripes Award Candidates: You can make a lot of plans, but they don’t always work out, so just persevere through them and trust that anything good you do in life will make a difference to others.

Project: Created a video-based drug awareness curriculum for elementary, middle, and high school students of Denton Calvary Academy

Future plans: To attend the University of Texas at Tyler to major in Social Work with a minor in Spanish. As with everything, these plans are in God’s hands, and I am willing to go wherever He takes me in the future.

Proudest accomplishment during this difficult year: I am most proud of completing my Stars & Stripes Award. I was blessed with an amazing Charter Organization and friends that helped me with my project in the midst of an uncertain time.

Project: Created a Princess Tea Party for the Make-A-Wish Foundation

Most rewarding part of your Stars & Stripes Award process: I grew closer to Jesus during this project in learning to be more like Him. Service-oriented projects like this emulate His actions.

Favorite memory or experience in AHG: The entire experience was the perfect example of the fourth promise of the AHG Oath–serving in my community. My character was strengthened in the areas of helpfulness, perseverance, resourcefulness, respectfulness, and responsibility. I believe that this project helped me to fulfill my purpose and demonstrate what it means to be an American Heritage Girl.

Project: A prayer garden for Collin Creek Church

Most challenging part of your Stars & Stripes Award process: I had a lot of fear and concern that the shutdown would prevent the project from being completed. I had already bought the supplies and had to keep over 300 plants alive for months. I had to complete the project two months later than anticipated with five workdays with small groups of 10 or less.

Identify how is God working in your life: My relationship with Jesus has been growing day by day! He’s continuing to teach me a lot about trusting in His plans and growing my heart for world missions.

Project: Mapping six trails, building a trailhead kiosk with a map, installing trail markers with nature signs on all trails, and building a bench at a park in Green Township

Future plans: Majoring in Hospitality Management at Youngstown State University.

Most rewarding experience during your Stars & Stripes Award process: It was finishing my trailhead kiosk. Although I had some paperwork and my Board of Review, I felt like my project had really come to life when the trailhead kiosk was actually built, and the sign installed. I won’t forget the feeling of accomplishment I had at that moment.

Project: Constructed two picnic tables for the Building Veterans homes provided for veterans

Favorite Bible verse: My favorite Bible verse is Galatians 6:9, ESV— “And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.” If I keep this verse with me, I will be more resilient and prepared to serve my community.

Advice for future Stars & Stripes Award Candidates: You already have it in you to earn this. It will be well worth it, and you will know you have made a difference in your community and done what God intended you to.

Project: Created a Rosary Stepping Stone Garden

Favorite memory or experience in AHG: Singing and teaching songs with my best friend to my Troop. We would start the meeting off doing camp songs and dances, and it was always so much fun.

Most rewarding experience during your Stars & Stripes Award process: The first time the Rosary Garden was used by the Church. Everyone gathered to bless the stones and pray for the end of the pandemic. Seeing everyone there praying, using, and admiring the stones made all of the time and hard work worth it.

Project: Designed and painted a religious mural for Epiphany Lutheran Church

Most challenging part of your Stars & Stripes Award process: Overcoming my own self-doubt. It was quite a process and required a lot of support from my friends and family, as well as accepting that it’s okay to be imperfect.

Advice for future Stars & Stripes Award Candidates: Do it. It will challenge you; it will stress you out; it will push you to the breaking point. But in the end, it will all be worth it. You will come out the other side braver, calmer, and more prepared to face other challenges in your life.

Project: Updated outside altar and surrounding area for outdoor Masses at St. Edwards Catholic Church

Share what have you been up to since earning the Stars & Stripes Award: Attending the University of North Dakota. I am a Musical Theatre Major with a Dance Minor. I have been auditioning for shows, preparing for gigs, and helping out with my old high school speech team.

Advice for future Stars & Stripes Award Candidates: Don’t procrastinate and have fun!

Project: Constructed a sand volleyball court and a pair of wooden benches for Iglesia Comunidad Cristiana Sobre La Roca’s youth group

Future plans: I plan to study Economics, Political Science, and Philosophy for a possible future job in the nation’s capital.

Most rewarding experience during your Stars & Stripes Awards process: Hearing about the senior pastor’s lifelong prayer. He continually prayed that God would send someone to partner alongside their community to help them with their needs. Two weeks after I completed the project, he passed away from health complications.

Project: Created a special needs dance program at Gateway Dance Conservatory

Favorite memory or experience in AHG: I loved going to Eagle Sky high adventure camp and conquering the high ropes course, swimming, and flying into the water on a zip line.

Identify how is God working in your life: He is showing me a path for my future using the skills and talents He has blessed me with.

Most rewarding part of your Stars & Stripes Award process: I did grow spiritually, in that I learned how to let go of things I cannot control and give them to God. My Mentor’s words brought to mind a quote by St. Augustine: “Pray as though everything depended on God, work as though everything depended on you.”

Favorite memory or experience in AHG: AHG has formed me into the leader that I am today. It has especially shown me the importance of servant leadership, putting others before myself, and living my life as Christ taught.

Future Plans: Attend Toccoa Falls College and studying Pediatric Nursing

Advice for future Stars & Stripes Award Candidates: Pick a project that you are interested in. That will make the whole ordeal less daunting. Also, to be open to change. Some people who are helping you with your project may have a different perspective on something that you feel you are set on, but it can never hurt to hear somebody else’s opinion. It may help your project go smoother.

Project: Refurbished a small food bank building by painting, replacing a handicap ramp, and adding a handrail

Future plans: Get a Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in accounting and then become a CPA.

Advice for future Stars & Stripes Award Candidates: Don’t give up; there will be times when it gets really hard, and you don’t have any motivation to keep working on your project. The best thing you can do is to just keep doing it, even if it’s at a slow and steady pace. You will look back at your journey and be so happy that you didn’t let yourself quit.

Project: Cleaned all 700 headstones for Albert County Cemetery

Favorite memory or experience in AHG: I loved working with the younger girls at summer camps and Troop meetings.

Advice for future Stars & Stripes Award Candidates: Start early, be perseverant, and clarify what you think you understand with your SSPA. I grew by learning how to be perseverant and understanding when a problem is put in front of me. When the headstone was tipped over, I could have just put it back up and not told anyone, but because we are women of integrity, I told the owner.

Project: A Blessing Box to go outside the doors of Chardon Christian Fellowship

Most challenging part during your Stars & Stripes Award process: Internal stress and discouragement. I overcame that by praying, remembering why I was doing this project, and that I had God and a good support team beside me the whole way.

Advice for future Stars & Stripes Award Candidates: It’s better to have a more detailed plan that you might have to change than to have too little and have to figure it out as you go. Take one step at a time, and do not procrastinate! Most importantly, remember to keep in touch with God, and He will help you as you go.

Project: Renovated a classroom used for ministries at First Baptist Church

Favorite Bible verse: Galatians 2:20 because it reminds me that my former life has been crucified with Christ. I am no longer living for myself but for Him and His glory alone. In everything I say or do, I want people to see Jesus in me.

Identify how is God working in your life: I’ve been learning to put my trust in God and let Him guide me in my daily life. I’ve been blessed with so many strong Christian men and women around me who push me to pursue God, and the more I do, the more I love Him.

Future plans: I am currently earning a certificate in Early Childhood Education and will soon explore degrees in education and graphic design.

Most rewarding experience during your Stars & Stripes Award process: Every week is a reward when I see children playing at preschool and church, knowing that they are enjoying time there.

Project: Created landscaping for Hope Center’s “Blooming Hope” Greenhouse

Advice for future Stars & Stripes Award Candidates: I would tell other candidates to make sure they rely on God first and others second. I would also tell them to take this project step-by-step and to not get ahead of themselves. I feel like I have grown so much during this project spiritually, in the sense of just becoming closer to Christ!

Favorite memory or experience in AHG: The impact of American Heritage Girls has been so meaningful. AHG has taught me how to love others with a servant’s heart.

Project: Built bookshelves and collected books for Maysfield Elementary School

Advice for future Stars & Stripes Award Candidates: Have a plan but be prepared to change it. The Project Description is beneficial in that it forces the candidate to create a solid outline for the project. However, there will inevitably be bumps in the road to project implementation, and it’s important to be flexible. In addition, the candidate needs to know that they don’t have to be the expert in everything involved in their project. Ask for help from adults whom you trust and professionals in their field.

Project: Refurbished toy and visitation room at United Methodist Family Services

Favorite Bible verse: “To everything, there is a season, A time for every purpose under heaven” (Ecclesiastes 3:1, NKJV). This verse has been particularly comforting this year during the pandemic and college admissions process.

Favorite memory or experience in AHG: Some of my favorite memories are from the Cake Decorating Badge lock-ins my Troop did over the years. They were always full of laughter and so different and fun every time. I think I’ve earned that badge every year of AHG.

Project: Constructed a rosary garden in the courtyard of Our Lady of Fatima

Identify how is God working in your life: God is working quietly in my heart; He is preparing me for the next step in my life. He is drawing me into His heart and showing me how I am going to serve others.

Advice for future Stars & Stripes Award Candidates: Trust and believe in yourself; it’s a lot of work, and the only way to get through it is to believe that God has given you all the strength you need. Pick a good mentor; I would have been a mess without mine.

Project: Installed a garden on the back patio of St. Julie Billiart Catholic Church

Future plans: Finish my degree at Thomas Aquinas College, then attend a school for library science and work as a young adult or children’s librarian.

Most rewarding experience during your Stars & Stripes Award process: I think the Board of Review was the most rewarding part. It gave me an opportunity to look back over all I have done, not only in the Stars & Stripes Award process but throughout my entire AHG career.

Project: Painted the inside, moved shelves, scraped and cleaned the window and door of a homeschool resource store

Future plans: In the fall, I plan to attend Ouachita Baptist University.

Advice for future Stars & Stripes Award Candidates: If you are thinking about taking on this challenge, I suggest you look outside the box. Don’t worry about how long you’ve got or when what will happen. I suggest praying continuously and planning more than you ever dreamed. Let God guide you, and it will work out better than you could ever dream possible.

Project: Created an online inventory system for Saving Grace Ministry

Most rewarding part of your Stars & Stripes Award process: As I worked, prepared, and helped my volunteers through this project process, I thought about AHG’s Mission to build women of integrity through service. I reflected on my motivations to complete this project, namely, my desire to help Saving Grace with an ongoing but chronically unresolved inventory problem.

Favorite memory or experience in AHG: I am ultimately grateful for the time I got to spend in AHG. Throughout this project process especially, I became increasingly aware of how much this program has taught me about life and faith.

Project: Cleaned out, re-designed, organized, and built shelving for the Love Mercy Ministry facility, where they fill clothing and diaper needs for foster families

Most challenging part of your Stars & Stripes Award process: Postponing the project due to COVID-19 restrictions and rescheduling volunteers that were willing to work in smaller groups with masks, etc. It took time and patience to work through the changing details and restrictions.

Favorite Bible verse: Philippians 2:1-16; that is the passage that our Troop is numbered after. We have memorized it and used it as a guiding passage for ten years.

Project: Built sustainable agility equipment for Spotsy Dog Park

Advice for future Stars & Stripes Award Candidates: I would advise any future Stars & Stripes Award Candidates to not procrastinate. Start working on all of the paperwork as soon as possible. This experience has tested my patience and faith in God, but I still stayed true and trusted that God would help me pull through.

Favorite memory or experience in AHG: The impact that AHG has had in my life is that it has allowed me to become a leader, meaning that I have become more confident in my decisions.

Project: Built wooden boxes for fly fishing for the North Texas Patriot Anglers

Most challenging part of your Stars & Stripes Award process: The Stars & Stripes Award journey is a hard one, but completing it during a global pandemic takes a lot of perseverance. There were many times when I had to persevere to complete my project. I have literally put blood, sweat, and tears into this project.

Future plans: I plan to attend college to study biomedical engineering. The AHG service projects I did to help veterans are the reason I became interested in this career.

Share how is God working in your life: Each year, God puts a word or two on my heart that defines how I should grow. Stress and worry tend to follow close behind uncertainty. There’s nothing wrong with feeling stressed or worried, both are very human emotions. The key is to not let them overwhelm you. Keep your eyes on Jesus, and you won’t sink.

Project: Built eight benches for Camp Cuomo

Most rewarding experience during your Stars & Stripes Award process: I grew spiritually throughout this process because I had to put a lot of faith in God and ask for His guidance throughout the harder and more stressful parts of the project when I honestly felt like giving up. Having AHG throughout my life has helped me grow closer to God and gave me many opportunities to be God’s servant.

Future plans: I just applied to two children’s hospitals to work in their emergency rooms. I plan to become a traveling nurse very soon! Most challenging part of your Stars & Stripes Award process: My greatest challenge was finding a project when COVID-19 restrictions shut everything down. My family also got sick with COVID-19 for three months which delayed everything. This gave me two months to finish my project.

Project: Built a privacy fence, gazebo, and landscaping for Juniper’s House

Most challenging part of your Stars & Stripes Award process: In the beginning, the workload seemed impossible, but at the end of the day you can only do your best, and God takes care of the rest. I saw this when it came to overcoming obstacles such as fundraising during a time when money was tight in the pandemic, or when we needed specific supplies and our neighbor just happened to be selling the exact design we needed. The sense of confidence in the progression and completion of the project came from my strengthened trust in God.

Proudest accomplishment during this difficult year: Through this project, I was able to witness first-hand how much of a blessing it is to serve others with the talents God has given me. American Heritage Girls has definitely helped me find out what my passion is in life, what things I’m good at, and has taught me how to use that passion to serve and benefit others. Most rewarding experience during your Stars & Stripes Award process: One word from the American Heritage Girls Creed that really stood out to me during this process was perseverance. There were times of doubt and wondering if it was all going to be worth it. On top of losing motivation at times, there was the COVID-19 pandemic that delayed my efforts. My mentor and my parents both supported me the entire way. They pushed me to be better and to persevere and never give up. In the end, I’m so happy I persevered through it.

Project: Renovated two large storage rooms and designed and implemented a method of sorting and storing donations for Catholic Charities

Future plans: I am attending an internship called “GO Ministries International.” I will spend two years there. Then I will come back to my home church and become the youth pastor!

Favorite memory or experience in AHG: I am a leader because of American Heritage Girls. AHG gave me an outlet for those leadership qualities. At my Troop’s start, we had about twenty girls, only three of which were Pi/Pa’s (including me). This gave me an opportunity to hone my skills and develop new ones, such as compassionate communication. I have been consistently praised by coworkers, managers, and teachers for the strong work ethic that I developed through AHG.

My Mentor challenged me to pray daily as I worked on writing the reports and the impact it made pulled me closer to God.

Advice for future Stars & Stripes Award Candidates: I want others who are working on their Stars & Stripes Award project to have a full plan of what they want to accomplish each day, and also be prepared for unexpected problems.

Identify how God is working in your life: Recently God has been giving me the desire to teach people about Him. I’m not sure what that will look like yet, but I know that when it’s time God will reveal it to me.

Most challenging part of your Stars & Stripes Award process: I was quite worried about getting 10 supervisory hours in because I needed three youth, and only one could be a sibling, and because of COVID-19 restrictions I might not have had enough people.

Advice for future Stars & Stripes Award Candidates: I would say to be on top of things and to be flexible. I grew spiritually in the fact that I had to learn to trust in God and push through difficulties.

Project: Built two picnic tables for Long Acres Ranch, to expand their seating capacity for their outdoor science classes

Favorite Bible verse: John 13:34-35. This is my favorite Bible verse because I believe it’s important as a Christian to treat others with kindness.

Advice for future Stars & Stripes Award Candidates: My advice for other candidates is to focus more on helping others rather than the award itself. By focusing more on helping others, it helped take some of the pressure off.

But [with] encouragement and the Lord, I persevered and finished. I knew this project, and my garden was not for me—it was for the people in my community. Advice for future Stars & Stripes Award Candidates: Wait for God’s timing; whether you are looking for a project or are wondering where your funds will come from, always go to God.

Future plans: I plan to take a gap year to get a second job to save money for college or trade school. In the far future, I would like to have a side job making dresses and/or clothing.

Most challenging part of your Stars & Stripes Award process: The area that Today’s Harbor gave me for the garden had a big metal pipe in the middle of it. It was not able to be removed and was an eyesore. After a lot of thought, I ended up building a lattice box to fit over the top of it, and it looks great!

Favorite Bible verse: Psalms 23; I like to say it when I feel afraid. It helps me to calm down and remember that whatever I fear, God is much bigger and stronger.

Just remember that the Lord is rooting for you, as are your close friends and family, don’t forget to thank them for their part in your life as well as your project. I would encourage them to tell the Lord both their hopes and their concerns and allow Him to work within them. I would tell them to put in their best effort and trust God to multiply it the way He sees best.

Future plans: My life ambition is to follow God wherever He leads me. I believe He is leading me to work with kids as a pediatric nurse. I think He is calling me to specialize in cancer treatment where I can help kids long-term.

Advice for future Stars & Stripes Award Candidates: Trust God no matter what happens. He always has a plan; we often forget that it’s His plan and timing, not ours. Spend as much time in the Bible and prayer as you can, it really helps you grow closer to God and shut out doubts.

Advice for future Stars & Stripes Award Candidates: I would tell other candidates to absolutely never give up no matter how hard or stressful the process gets. Also, keep in mind that God will always be with you so constantly give Him thanks and trust that everything will work out!

Project: Created a memorial garden for K-9’s at Coral Springs Police Department

Identify how God is working in your life: Leading a small group of girls who just went into middle school is probably the biggest way God is using me right now. I can walk alongside them while being a leader and a friend to them.
