THE COLLABORATION
Following their debut collaboration for the KARANA Collection at Indonesia Design Week 2025, the American Hardwood Export Council and Studio Hendro Hadinata return with KARANA Habitat - an expanded partnership exploring American red oak, cherry and maple across a full collection of living and dining furniture for the home.
THE JOURNEY KARANA Habitat
KARANA Habitat marks the next chapter in Hendro Hadinata's exploration of American hardwoods. Where the original KARANA Collection presented the Kuta Bench, Sanur Lounge Chair and Ubud Light as sculptural objects, Habitat expands the story into a sofa, dining chairs and a dining table designed for daily life. Having gained confidence working with red oak and cherry, Hadinata now introduces American hard maple, growing KARANA from three sculptural pieces into a complete collection for living and dining.

THE MATERIAL Three American Hardwoods & Sustainability
KARANA Habitat is crafted from three sustainable American hardwoods. American red oak offers a bold, expressive grain and excellent workability, while American cherry brings a fine, uniform texture and warm tone that deepens with age.
Newly introduced to the collection, American hard maple has a creamy white colour, fine uniform texture and outstanding durability which make it ideal for surfaces where clean, precise finish and lasting performance matter.
KARANA Habitat's materials come from responsibly managed U.S. forests, where mature trees are selectively harvested to make way for new growth and volume increases every year. It's a philosophy of patience Hadinata sees reflected in the collection itself.
