DYLAN LAU R EN We are proud to honor Dylan Lauren with the Brooke Astor Award, which was created to recognize an individual who, in word and deed, emulates Mrs. Astor’s cherished ideals and values, and works to preserve and protect the human-animal bond. Dylan Lauren, known to many as the “Candy Queen,” is the founder and CEO of Dylan’s Candy Bar. She is the face of the brand, as well as the creative and strategic force behind it. In 2001, Dylan realized her childhood dream of opening the world’s largest candy store, and since then, has opened 26 locations and plans to expand her candy empire worldwide. The mission of Dylan’s Candy Bar is to merge fashion, art, and pop culture with candy to ignite the creative spirit and inner child in everyone that visits. This innovative concept has changed the way the world experiences candy today. Ms. Lauren created Dylan’s Candy BarN to help raise awareness and funding for homeless animals. In keeping with Dylan's lifelong love of animals and her avid desire to come to their aid, the foundation’s mission is to help every animal find a homesweet-home by hosting adoption events, highlighting the importance of spay/neuter in preventing overpopulation and euthanasia, sponsoring and granting funds to animal programs, and aiding animal-welfare organizations in ending animal cruelty. Dylan is also the author of Dylan’s Candy Bar: Unwrap Your Sweet Life. Her book shares Dylan’s “candy-centric“ tips for entertaining, decorating, and gift-giving for every occasion with her colorfully chic, signature style. Dylan has been featured on over 27 magazine covers, as well as appeared on top national shows such as Oprah, The Today Show, CBS Sunday Morning, and Project Runway. Dylan and her husband, Paul Arrouet, live in New York City with their twins and a rescue dog named Jersey, who graces the cover of this journal. Abandoned and rescued from a horrible fate, Jersey is now the center of the family and the inspiration behind the efforts of Dylan’s Candy BarN “to make the world a sweeter place for animals.”

EDC Quigley was assigned to the NYPD Bomb Squad in 2015 and is partnered with Detective Joseph Giordano, the NYPD Bomb Squad’s Kennel Master. Detective Giordano, a 19-year veteran and certified Bomb Technician, and EDC Quigley have been been together since 2013 (first in NYPD ESU K-9) and have performed hundreds of olfactory security sweeps at every major event in New York City and beyond.

K- 9 VINNY is named in honor of Officer Vincent G. Danz and is handled by Detective Hoksang Lau. On September 11, 2001, Police Officer Vincent G. Danz lost his life while attempting to rescue victims trapped in the World Trade Center. He was 38 years old. Police Officer Danz was assigned to the Emergency Service Unit and served as an active member of the United States Coast Guard Reserve. He also previously served in the United States Marine Corps. Reserve. Police Officer Danz was posthumously awarded the Department’s Medal of Honor for his heroic actions.

The GIFT of LOVE CAPI TA L CA M PA I G N On October 22, 2019, the Animal Medical Center launched its $70 million Gift of Love capital campaign, the largest campaign in AMC’s history. This transformational three-year renovation and expansion effort has already raised more than 60% of its goal, and construction is scheduled to start in the spring of 2020. The Gift of Love campaign will continue to seek leadership support through 2020, when AMC will celebrate its 110th anniversary. The Gift of Love campaign enables AMC to meet the challenges ahead of us. Advances in medicine and the evolution of the veterinary industry will define the next generation of animal care. In the face of change, AMC’s future depends on its continued adherence to the highest principles of responsible, respectful, and scientifically-based veterinary medicine. In this galvanizing moment, the Gift of Love campaign will equip AMC to take advantage of the latest advances in medical technologies, while nurturing the scientific curiosity that motivates our doctors to pursue breakthroughs in both animal and human health — breakthroughs that will have an impact on every aspect of AMC’s mission: clinical care, education, research, and public health. We hope that everyone who embraces AMC’s mission will be inspired to join the ranks of those generous leaders who have already made transformational gifts to the Gift of Love campaign. A bright future lies ahead for the AMC, and we hope you will be a part of it.

THE EMERGENCY ROOM & INTENSIVE CARE UNIT AMC’s new ER and ICU will nearly triple the current footprint, adding needed equipment, exam tables, and cages. An improved layout connecting the ER and ICU will optimize patient outcomes, and an ICU isolation room will keep animals that may be contagious away from other pets. These changes will promote a better healing environment for our patients and enable them to return home to their families as quickly and healthfully as possible.
