The Ambassador has a circulation of 6,000 - 7,500 and is distributed in local churches and businesses in the community. The purpose of The Ambassador is to pursue the great commission of Christ by making disciples and to encourage, inform, challenge and connect the local body of Christ. The Ambassador’s 100th Issue

By Seth Halpern (Editor) Although I wasn’t sitting around counting each issue, it occurred to me last month that we started printing The Ambassador more than eight years ago. Then I realized that this month would in fact be our 100th issue. One hundred issues! Wow! Who would have thought? I had no idea that the Lord would sustain this ministry through the severe economic downturn of the past decade. He did. I wondered how He would continue providing for us when I was an inexperienced (and basically unwilling) salesman. He did. I didn’t know how this would continue after having multiple heart attacks and 4 way bypass surgery. He did. After eight years, I think I have finally figured out that HE wants this ministry of The Ambassador to continue because it is for His Glory and purpose! In addition to monthly issues and weekly radio shows, God has allowed us to be a light in the community in other ways: partnering with the Christian Business Alliance to co-sponsor the National Day of Prayer Breakfast, Faith Night, and the “Saving US” event., coordinating the Week of Prayer & Bible Reading; Sponsoring the Christian Student Writing Contest, and more. Just in case you thought that The Ambassador was a common community publication like others in our area, let me
assure you that it is not. The Ambassador has been the only publication in this community that distributes in local churches AND the marketplace (restaurants, salons, offices, etc). Those churches represent many different denominations (all honoring Christ as Lord!). Also, The Ambassador is the only publication in the community with the objective to point people (believers and unbelievers) to Jesus. Whether it’s comforting the burdened, informing the un-, ill-, or mis-informed, or challenging the compromiser, we are seeking to restore and connect people to Christ and the family of believers. We strive to inform our readers of things that the mainstream media will ignore. Through these 100 issues, we’ve covered issues of pro-life, traditional family values, and religious liberty and watched as people picked up these issues and read about God’s position on controversial issues. We’ve highlighted the work of many local ministries and ministers. We have received letters and feedback from local jails and even regional prisons and some of our readers have used the papers as tracts and handed them out or put them on vehicles. We’ve

Have you heard of the fellow whose life was a train wreck until he turned his life around? Now think about this: What if English was not your first language? Could you understand that statement? For a precious half hour each week day, I am blessed to sit with five amazing teenagers as their English teacher. One student is in a wheelchair, two are in walkers, one has bone disease, and the other was born in the United States and doesn’t have the correct papers to get into regular school. Each of these teens has great conversational English, so I’ve added to their curriculum the study of confusing phrases they hear each Friday when short-term missionaries give their testimonies during chapel. The kids also see the challenge the translator has in figuring out what the gringo is saying! For instance, what does it mean to sit on our hands? Do we really sit on our hands? The kids laugh, and I explain that it means to do nothing. One visitor said John 3:16 was the gospel in a nut shell. We have macadamia nut shells as landscaping material around here. What does that have to do with the gospel? “Oh, a short, simple explanation,” an eager student says. “I get it now.” We had lots of fun with “blown away” and “roll with it.” Sadly, too, we talked about one

speaker who “lost a friend” and how that meant the friend died. A young man told of being a “dark kid” and being “close to the edge”. In Mexico, children with disabilities cannot go school. My students would literally be sitting on their hands, possibly in the dark, were it not for our learning center. Poverty has them close to the edge of hunger and cold. But for the grace of God, their lives could be a train wreck. Fortunately, the gospel came here wrapped up as simply as a macadamia nut in its shell, and by relationship to Christ and education, these kids have the opportunity to turn their lives around from hopelessness to hope for a better future. It’s fun to play with crazy, mixed up English phrases, but there are words that are sure and certain. “The Lord’s word is flawless; the word of the Lord is true and right (Psalm 18:30 and 33:4). The word of the Lord is a healing word according to Psalm 107:20 which reads, “He sent forth his word and healed them. He rescued them from the grave.” The Lord’s words are eternal. “Your word, O Lord, is eternal; it stands firm in the heavens (Psalm 119:89). And when we feel as if we’re “in the dark”, God’s word is an illuminating word. “The entrance of your words gives light; it gives understanding to the simple (Psalm 119:130). In addition to its certainty, the Bible is rich with its own figurative language. One of my favorite verses is Psalm 17:8, “Keep me as the apple of your eye; hide me in the shadow of your wings.” I’ll let you play with those words on your own (theologians call it meditating). I guarantee you will be blessed as you dig past what the words say to what God offers those in relationship with Him.

5 Lessons Christians Can Learn From the Lives of Ruth and Billy Graham By Tyler O’neil , Cp Reporter A new book on Ruth and Billy Graham contains many lessons today’s Christians can learn from the couple. “There were so many books – several hundred – on the ministry and life of Billy Graham, but a real biography of the couple I could not find,” Hanspeter Nuesch, 30-year director of Campus Crusade for Christ in Switzerland, told The Christian Post in an interview on Thursday. Nuesch explained that “Ruth played an important role in his ministry – she was his life partner in everything.” His new book, Ruth and Bill Graham: The Legacy of a Couple, was released last month. Nuesch laid out five key lessons Ruth, who died in 2007, and Billy Graham, 95, taught with their lives. He suggested modern Christians apply these lessons to their lives today. 1. Humility Nuesch, who has spent time with the couple in person, explained that Billy “is so modest, always humble, he always gives glory to other people or to the Lord. He never speaks about himself highly.” Both Ruth and Billy looked beyond worldly fame and never boasted
of meeting important people, instead focusing on serving the Lord in their interactions with others. Nuesch recalled an instance where the president was calling, and Billy Graham “would say ‘I don’t have time – I just have to talk to our housemaid at the moment. I’ll call you back.’” The biographer said the couple did not have
any pictures of them with famous people in their home. “For him, God was so much ahead of all men that he had no problem to cope with celebrities,” Nuesch reported. “They didn’t really care very much about whether someone is very important or not.” Although Ruth was “definitely not this typically submissive person,”
INSPIRATION she gave up her dreams to support Billy’s ministry, the biographer explained. “Ruth renounced her mission to be an evangelist in Tibet … but she became an evangelist to the whole world by backing up Billy,” Nuesch said, adding that she led many personally to the Lord Jesus. 2. Authenticity “People who knew them best said they are even better at home than on the podium, which is a strong testimony for a person,” Nuesch said. The Grahams lived their faith in preaching, eating meals, and even before going to bed. Nuesch explained that Billy “is just always himself.” Looking at Graham’s life, the biographer suggested “be close to God and then you will be close to people.” He described Ruth as “very outspoken,” which made it tough for Billy, but also enabled her to reach the daughter of President Richard Nixon, Julie Nixon Eisenhower. “When asked what he wants to hear from the Lord at the end of his life, he said ‘well done, good servant,’” Nuesch explained. Graham’s authenticity and humility emerged in the next few words – “I’m not sure I will hear this from the Lord.” 3. Constant Prayer Nuesch laid out a daily activity in the house of the Grahams: “Every evening they would go on their knees and pray for many different topics and always for the president and the administration.” The biographer explained that Ruth “was
always trying to be ‘online with the Lord Jesus’ during the day,” and she always emphasized how Christians should “practice the presence of God.” Ruth’s prayer life enabled her to serve others more effectively, the biographer explained. “She was so close to the Lord Jesus and very close to the people’s needs,” he said. A sign above the sink read, “Here I celebrate three times a day my divine service,” Nuesch said. The Grahams always prayed before meals, and constantly kept an attitude of service to God and others. 4. Devotion to Scripture “Both of course were characterized by their love of the Word of God,” the biographer continued, adding “that is very obvious.” He argued that, surprisingly, Ruth was the “theologian” of the house, and she kept many different translations of the Bible and study aids in the home. The book explains that, every morning when they were together, Ruth and Billy would read one Proverb and seven Psalms, reading through the books of Psalms and Proverbs once a month. Nuesch explained that “they were determined to live by the Word of God.” He testified that this made an impact on his life, encouraging him in his ministry with Campus Crusade for Christ. “Their integrity and their love for the Word of God have been very key in my life,” he said. 5. Bible Saves Bus Driver Shot in Chest by Teen Attackers |By: Heather Clark Christian News Network
According to the Dayton Daily News, Wagoner began to fire after them as they ran. He then called 911. “I’ve been hit in the leg,” Wagoner told the dispatcher. “My chest feels like I’ve been hit with a sledgehammer.” But although the bus driver had been struck in the chest twice by bullets, it was discovered that his Bible saved his life. “I’ve got a book in my pocket, and I don’t think they made it through this book,” he said. Dayton police agreed that the Bible was instrumental in stopping the bullets and that God was looking out for Wagoner. “The two bullets were stopped by the New Testament book in his chest pocket,” Sgt. Michael Pauley told reporters. “There was obviously some kind of intervention involved in this incident, because he probably should not be here.” Wagoner was hospitalized, but his injuries are not considered to be lifethreatening. He said that he had just started carrying his Bible in his pocket a week before the incident. Police are still looking for the attackers. No one else was on the bus during the time of the assault.
DAYTON, Ohio – The Bible is being credited for saving the life of an Ohio bus driver who was shot in the chest on Monday by a trio of teenage attackers. Rickey Wagoner, 49, was driving the city bus as usual on Monday when he began to experience electrical problems with the vehicle. At approximately 5:20 a.m., he pulled the vehicle to the side of the road, and was soon approached by three teenage boys. According to reports, three gunshots were fired at Wagoner. Two were aimed at his chest, and a third struck his leg. Wagoner attempted to wrestle the pistol from one of the teens after being shot in the chest, but the gun went off during the altercation. A second teen then stabbed him in the arm with a knife while a third kicked and punched him. WHIO-TV reports that one of the teens allegedly instructed the other that he must ”kill the polar bear” in order to be “all the way in the club.” After being stabbed in the arm, Wagoner pulled out an aluminum pen that he carried for self defense and jabbed the teen attacker in the leg. The three boys then began to run away, and the teen holding the pistol dropped his weapon.

This is an exceptional nation. The world changed dramatically after the advent of the United States of America.” For more than a quarter of a century, Dr. Carson has directed pediatric neurosurgery at the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center. Today, he is a highly regarded motivational speaker who has
addressed various audiences - from school systems and civic groups to corporations and the President’s National Prayer Breakfast. In 2001, Dr. Carson was named by CNN and TIME magazine as one of the nation’s 20 foremost physicians and scientists. In June 2008, he was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by the President, which is the highest civilian honor in the land. “There is no question that conservatives need to understand the power of unity,” Carson said. “Right now we have a ship that is about to sail off the Niagara Falls and everyone is going to be killed. We have people looking over the bannister saying, ‘but we have a barnacle on the side.’ Forget about the barnacle. Let’s get the ship turned around. Then we can talk about the barnacles after that. We need to look at the big major issues and stop allowing ourselves to be divided up over the little issues, about which there will always be differences of opinion. We can never unit on all of those things, nor do we need to. Why Did Harvard and the YMCA Ditch Christianity?
When Harvard University was founded in 1636, its mission was that its students “be plainly instructed and consider well that the main end of your life and studies is to know God and Jesus Christ.” The YMCA began as “a refuge of Bible study and prayer for young men seeking escape from the hazards of life on the streets.” Neither organization still intimately affiliates with its once-overt religious identity. Indeed, they are two out of dozens of colleges and non-profits that once manifested Christian ideals and now posses a reputation, values and processes which are staunchly secular. What changed? That is the question that Peter Greer and Chris Horst, both of the microfinance non-profit Hope International, attempt to answer in the recently released Mission Drift: The Unspoken Crises Facing Leaders, Charities and Churches. “The more we researched, the more we realized that it’s not like one major event. There’s not one major decision [that takes the organization off its Christian mission,]” said Greer, who is the CEO and President of the Lancaster, Pa. based organization. “It’s all these really small decisions and you don’t really see the impact until you take a step back and seem the difference that time allows and perspective.” One of those incremental shifts can be appointing board members whose values may not be completely in sync with the mission of the organization, said Greer. “We found that ‘mission drift’ often starts with boards. As much intentionality as there is around hiring staff, often times there’s not that same type of process and scrutiny and understanding with whom you invite on your board,” said Greer.
It’s necessary, then, that organizations vet their candidates to make sure that nominees hold values “fully in line with the mission” and have a “deep passion for it,” rather than let themselves be overly swayed by a potential board member’s lofty credentials or past professional success. “They are ultimately the protectors and guardians of the mission,” said Greer, who added that as he became more aware of these findings, he led Hope to start evaluating how the espoused values of a candidate manifested themselves in the individual’s life. Greer said that Hope also broadened its success metrics, resisting the urge to restrict them to “budget and numbers served.” “Those are good indicators but they are insufficient to really measure the whole mission and what we’re trying to do at Hope International,” he said. Greer challenged organizations that might believe they are invincible to falling away from their Christian identities. “The natural course is to drift away from our core mission and so it’s just a recognition for all of us that we need to step outside of our regular dialogue and discuss [this propensity,]” he said. Instead, organizations must realize they will change and evolve and must develop a strong “clarity of purpose.” “Do you understand why were created? What your core purpose is? Then you must evaluate every decision, every funding opportunity, and every hiring opportunity, through that lens of why you were created,” Greer added. “If that organization is not going to bring you closer to fulfilling of the ‘why’ of your organization, then we believe you are making a decision unintentionally— probably subtly and silently—to drift away from your mission.”
To reach Muslims for Christ, you don’t have to be an expert in Islam. But it does help to know your own faith. There has been some exciting news about what God has been doing in the Muslim world: Did you know that there have been more large movements of Muslims coming to Christ in the last two decades than in the preceding fourteen hundred years combined? David Garrison has documented these movements in his book, “A Wind in the House of Islam.” He also tells how many Muslims are reporting dreams and visions about the truth of Christ. And to hear first-hand what God has done in the life of one formerly devout Muslim in particular, you’ll want to go hear my interview with my friend Nabeel Qureshi. Nabeel grew up in a solid, and loving, Muslim family—and not just any Muslim family. A devout family that, though residing in America, was very serious about their faith. Nabeel’s grandfather and great-grandfather were even Muslim missionaries to Indonesia and Uganda. As a young boy, Nabeel had memorized large chunks of the Qur’an. By the time he had reached middle school, Nabeel had learned how to challenge and stump Christians who tried to share
the gospel with him by asking them, for example, to defend the reliability of the Bible or the doctrine of the Trinity. “I found out,” he said, “from a very early age that Christians just did not have answers to these questions. Each time I had a conversation, it bolstered my Islamic faith,” he told me on BreakPoint This Week. Nabeel stayed secure in his Muslim beliefs and identity until college, when he met a sophomore named David Wood. David was a Christian, but when Nabeel challenged him, something strange happened. “David didn’t react like other Christians I had challenged,” Nabeel said. “He did not waver in his witness, nor did he waver in his friendship with me. Far from it—he became more engaged, answering the questions he could respond to, investigating the questions he couldn’t respond to, and spending time with me through it all.” That, my friends, is a model of witnessing that we can all follow: explaining our faith as best we can, admitting when we don’t know the answers, doing our homework, and remaining a friend. And let’s face it: A lot of us just don’t know why we believe what we believe. As a consequence, we’re not ready for those kinds of intellectual challenges. This dishonors Christ and

What Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition Says About Us By Jim Denison The 50th annual Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue is being released today. The idea of editor Andre Laguerre, it was created in 1964 to fill the winter months, typically a slower time in the sports calendar. Laguerre summoned a young fashion reporter named Jule Campbell to his office and asked her, “How would you like to go to some beautiful place and put a pretty girl on the cover?” Campbell made the swimsuit issue into a juggernaut. Beginning in 1997, the swimsuit issue has featured only models, with no athletes. Since then, it has become one of its owner’s largest revenue producers; Forbes estimates that it has generated more than $1 billion. The swimsuit issue traditionally sells more than one million copies on newsstands, 10 to 15 times as much as a regular
Sports Illustrated issue. It accounts for 11 percent of the magazine’s annual revenue. Subscribers have the option to refuse the swimsuit edition and get an extension on their subscription—less than one percent choose to do so. Clearly, the magazine mirrors the cultural transformation of recent decades. One media expert says it “amplified cultural change that was going on anyway.” Another notes: “In the late ‘70s and early 80’s, the whole area of sexual explicitness in magazines, film, and all that sort of stuff exploded. Magazines like Penthouse and Playboy were selling three and four million copies an issue.” In that sense, the magazine is part of a trend that should frighten us all. I recently completed an in-depth study on the issue of pornography in our culture, and was shocked by what I discovered. Forty percent of adults in the U.S.
regularly visit porn sites (including 69 percent of men ages 18 to 26); 42.7 percent of all Internet users view porn. About 30 percent of Internet porn consumers are women; 90 percent of children ages 8 to 16 have viewed porn online. Hollywood produces around 400 films a year; the adult film industry produces more than 11,000. One expert calls pornography “more addictive than crack cocaine.” It is clearly a problem for Christians: 47 percent of believers and nearly 40 percent of pastors admit to struggling with the issue. My paper on the subject describes steps you can take to overcome this plague for yourself, your family, and our culture. In “The Mortification of Sin”, John Owen observes: “Sin aims always
at the utmost; every time it rises up to tempt or entice, if it has its own way it will go out to the utmost sin in that kind. PURE FLIX ENTERTAINMENT RELEASES GOD’S NOT DEAD IN THEATERS MARCH 21, 2014 “Duck Dynasty’s” Willie and Korie Robertson Join Cast Members Kevin Sorbo, Dean Cain and Shane Harper for Faith Based Film SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. Pure Flix Entertainment announces the release of the film GOD’S NOT DEAD on over 600 screens nationally March 21, 2014 through Freestyle Releasing. “The trailer has been viewed by 4.8 million people and we’ve generated 230,000 fans on Facebook—about ten times the social media numbers for other films in this genre at this point before release,” said Russell Wolfe, CEO of Pure Flix Entertainment. “With over 1,100 requests from churches for group tickets, we attribute this interest to the film’s topic as well as our outstanding cast, which includes Willie and Korie Robertson of ‘Duck Dynasty’.” Beyond the film, there is renewed interest in the music and book properties associated with the movie. Broocks believes the film may spark a movement. “GOD’S NOT DEAD is a rallying cry for churches to equip and encourage believers to reach non-believers with the Gospel. It provides reasons to believe and confidence to take a stand for Christ in an increasingly secular society.” The film features a starstudded cast, reality stars and musicians
including Kevin Sorbo (“Soul Surfer,” “Hercules: The Legendary Journeys”), Shane Harper (“High School Musical 2,” “Flipped”), David A.R. RESOURCES RAIN AND REIGN CALIFORNIA By April James How ironic that I sit to write about the drought in California , when a much needed rain begins to fall. Governor Brown declared on 01/17/14 that California is indeed in a drought. According to the “Drought Monitor” report, more than two-thirds of our state is in extreme drought or worse; that the two most serious drought categories have nearly doubled recently, the change was driven by deteriorating conditions in California. Anthony Artusa said “The precipitation received this week only keeps the snowpack/water supply from falling further behind. Reservoirs continue to go down.” 1 Department of Water Resources, Director Mark Cowin announced 01/30/14 that with no end to California ’s drought in sight, that the State Water Project (SWP) allocation to all 29 public water agencies was being cut to zero. Additionally “If we are to have any hope of coping with continued dry weather and balancing multiple needs, we must act now…”2 The 29 public water agencies buy water from the SWP for delivery to 25 million Californians and 750,000 acres of farmland.3 There is not enough water for millions of Californians and vast acres of agriculture land. Lakes are at an all-time low. Why?
Is it simply only climate change or is there perhaps another reason? Is there anything we can do about it? Could this possibly be a wakeup call, an opportunity for us as the body of Christ to examine ourselves, to come to a place of repentance for the sins within the church and on behalf of our state? Can we correlate our iniquities with those that caused the downfall of nations in biblical times; having lifestyles unpleasing to God; immorality, rebellion, idol worship, pride and arrogance? As the body of believers, the church, are we guilty either directly or indirectly of sin; perhaps in the name of tolerance or political correctness? Sin is sin no matter how we try to label or color it! Are we willing to open our eyes and look inward? I believe God is a God of love and we are currently under His grace. I don’t consider the lack of rain as punishment, perhaps though, as an opportunity for us to consider our ways, to humble ourselves, turn from wickedness, come into repentance, and call upon His name that our land will be restored. Second Chronicles 7:14 “if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” Conceivably Mark Cowin is correct when he stated, “we must act now”, though he was speaking about preserving water, we as believers in Christ can act now, not only in water preservation but also – in prayer. RAIN AND REIGN CALIFORNIA is a grassroots coalition begun in California with this focus. The purpose of the coalition is “to come into state-wide agreement for seeking God’s mercy for relief of the current drought, to see God send Rain, and to proclaim the Reign of Jesus Christ in our state”. The coalition, which continues to gain momentum, consists of leaders from

After six months at the Lincoln training center, I got discouraged and told myself that I was employable at this point and employable was good enough for me. I felt healed and whole again, except for the presenting problem of not wanting to wait on God and not really knowing what my calling was. But I lingered here anyway and God had started to reward me in small ways. I was asked to put together a PowerPoint Presentation for the graduation using the song Redeemed by Big Daddy Weave. Everyone loved it and I even got a standing ovation, so I started to feel “part of.” Then I started helping with children’s church on Wednesday nights. I heard about the Beauty for Ashes project in Redding and I
became interested in working up there and mentioned it to someone in the ministry. Pastor Joan got wind of it so she asked me if I wanted to go back to Twin Rivers Crisis Center and train for that future job. I accepted. After that move I was quickly delivered from my depression. I suddenly knew that I had found my calling. I decided to stay on and train for the permanent position of child care coordinator, and I also began teaching Sunday school at Riverside Restoration Center. It was announced that we would be having an outreach concert and that Big Daddy Weave would be headlining. I was excited because I would get to meet the artist that had ministered to me about my son through the verse, “stop fighting the fight; it’s already been won.” But God didn’t stop there. My son not only came to the concert but also came up to the altar call that Mike Weaver announced. If I had left at 6 months this would not have happened. On November 8th 2013, just 5 months after giving his life to Christ, my son entered Teen Challenge Monterey Bay.

Home Education: One Family’s Journey By Pastor Javier Caballero Our first child was four when Marisha and I were saved. Fellowship with Christians opened up a whole new realm of options and opportunities for us. Parenting was one specific area we desired to align with Scripture. We became concerned when we perceived God’s heart for parents. We were conscious of our inability to meet all of our responsibilities in and of ourselves. We had so many decisions to make and so many facts to consider. We began to see other Christian families and how they conducted themselves. One family in particular caught our attention. Their teens broke the mold of what the world expected of young adults. Their parents introduced us to the concept of home education. We wanted our daughter to develop godly character. Home education provided us with the best opportunity to mold our child’s character. We decided home education would provide us with the best opportunity to teach our child to see her life from a biblical perspective. We remembered how our parents would have to correct our thinking because of the influences in public school. Other influences with diverse values and traditions competed for our hearts. I am afraid the competition won most of the time. Home education is not the only way to develop godly character in children. My wife and I were developing godly character while in the secular world. Nevertheless, we decided to provide an environment that would support the values and traditions of our faith. The natural transition from infancy through adulthood was always intended to include parental involvement. We questioned our ability to educate our children. We decided to begin with Kindergarten and see how things went. That was thirteen years ago with the first of eight children. We have learned to focus on each child’s strengths and needs to help them grow. We have seen how
each of our concerns has been answered by a benefit only a parent could bring to the table. We have seen each child’s heart with all of its beauty as well as all of its sin and frailty. We have been there to praise them as well as challenge and mold them with God’s Word. We have grown with our children. Deuteronomy 6:7 communicates the principle that parental involvement is the essential key to developing a biblical perspective in a child’s heart. Not every godly parent is able to educate at home. Those who are able need to consider the challenges of home education and evaluate their commitment. In the long run, home education provided us with the best opportunity to take time and nurture Christ-like character in our children. The Lord has encouraged us through the network of dedicated home educators around us, our church family, and the relationships we continue developing with our children.
Helping our children develop godly character is the biblical responsibility of every parent. Our children are our most important mission field. I encourage you to commit yourself to home education if you are considering it. It is a challenge that can yield practical benefits as well as eternal rewards. In October, we did our annual banquets with the Teen Challenge Choir where I was assigned to run the PowerPoint in the sound booth with a sound tech. I was blessed to get to work for Bethel Church at the Redding Civic Auditorium. Now I volunteer as sound tech outside of Teen Challenge in a ministry called the Tapestry Network of Nevada County. I just started writing the book I have always wanted to write and I also correspond with people from the jail in my home town to share the hope and solution I have found.

Grace Baptist Church Calls New Pastor Grace Baptist Church called Javier Caballero to be their pastor on July 14th, 2013. After prayerful consideration the Pulpit Committee recommended brother Caballero to the congregation ending a two year search for a pastor. The Caballero family relocated to Yuba City from South Carolina last summer and began to settle into their new home last October. Grace Baptist Church has been working hard to serve the Lord through Christian Education. Grace Christian Academy and Preschool is striving to provide excellent education while focusing on the development of Christ-like Character. Javier and Marisha are also reaching out to home educators in Northern California by collaborating with other experienced home schooling families in their congregation.

Emanuel’s mother dumped him at the Mt. Meru hospital after he was born prematurely. He remained in the hospital for three months until he was strong enough to leave and then was transferred to Samaritan Village. He attends St. Monica school where he is an excellent student and advancing very well in his studies. When he grows up, Emanuel says he would like to be a teacher!

Eventually, Nabeel had to reluctantly conclude that the case for Christianity was very strong. And then David asked Nabeel to give the Qur’an the same sort of critical treatment that he had given the Bible. He did, and he was shocked to learn that the case for Islam was so weak. Distraught, Nabeel asked God to guide him into the truth, and you might guess what happened. After one vision and three dreams, a continued study of Scripture, and the faithful witness of a friend, Nabeel was faced with an excruciating choice: Did he love Jesus more than his family? Finally Nabeel knew what he had to do—come off the minaret, pick up his cross and follow Jesus, no matter what. Don’t Worry, Be Happy; TODAY! by David Kugelman On Friday, February 21st a wonderful brother in Christ went home to be with the Lord. He was only 54 years old. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, son, uncle and friend. Though there is cause for celebration because he now resides in his eternal home with Jesus, we grieve the loss of such a cherished individual. Hank Sanchez left a great legacy and there are many lessons that we can learn from his life. One lesson in particular that is universal for everyone is this: No one is guaranteed tomorrow. No one. James 4:14 says it this way ….What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. I have talked to many people who are in their 50s and 60s who are counting the days until they retire. Don’t misunderstand me, there is nothing wrong in planning for the future or in looking forward to some future event. However, are we so consumed with some distant event that we are putting big “Xs” on the calendar counting the days until we retire or move to a dream home, or inherit a large sum of money? If so, we need to adjust our perspective. Hank was living a normal life until Thursday evening, February 20th when he had a heart attack. He went home to be with the Lord the next day. I had another friend who retired after a 30 (plus) year union job. He had his house paid for and was ready to start “living it up.” This man, not quite 60 died within a year after retirement from cancer. I could give several other examples of family members or friends who died suddenly without warning. We may experience the same fate. We don’t know. Only God knows. We must find a way to enjoy life today. There is contentment in our relationship with Jesus Christ. Spend time with Him. Spend time with those you love. Invest yourself in loving others. Live as if today is your last day on earth. One day it will be true. (In memory of Hank Sanchez)

By Jon Skillman Back when I was in high school, marijuana, like all narcotics, was strictly taboo and hush-hush…of course back then telephones only made phone calls and being gay meant being extremely happy. But today, after decades of inane films, subliminal songs and pro pot propaganda, marijuana has become as benign as tofu. This is yet another dumbing down of America by redefining lies as truth. Despite claims by the research team of Cheech and Chong, real experts have found pot to be both addictive and a gateway to hard drug use (visit drugabuse.gov). And despite claims that smoking marijuana is less harmful than smoking cigarettes, researchers have found the opposite to be true. Although no direct link has yet been found between smoking pot and lung cancer, other pulmonary health risks have been proven. And as the smoke continues to clear, it is becoming evident that marijuana is not the innocuous recreational drug advocates make it out to be. The main area of concern is the mental and psychological effect of the drug…especially on younger users. These effects range from paranoia, reduced I.Q. and inhibited ambition. In addition, something known as Cannabis Use Disorder and Social Anxiety Disorder may also result. Now I’m no shrink but the word disorder has kind of a negative ring to it. Yet, knowing all these things, our permissive and tolerant society, with the apparent blessing of our ever-diligent government has already begun the legalization process. Returning again to my high school days, I recall how easy it was to procure cigarettes from a pack on the coffee table or a mother’s purse. It was simply the availability factor that made it so simple to smoke. Is there any reason to think legalized marijuana will be any different? But an even greater threat is lurking in America’s medicine cabinets. The proliferation of opiate-based pain

medications such as Oxycontin is fueling an epidemic in heroin use. This is the numbing down of America. According to Governor Peter Shumlin, heroin use in Vermont is at epidemic proportions. Vermont? Beautiful pastoral Vermont? Yes!…Vermont! Treatment for heroin addiction is up 250% from 2000 to 2013, and overdose deaths have nearly doubled in the last year. But how do legal prescription drugs drive the illegal heroin market? In a word…Price! Once hooked on the expensive prescription drugs, addicts by necessity, switch to the readily available and much more affordable heroin…saving roughly seventy to eighty percent in the process. Unfortunately, this saving can be deadly. Drug dealers, in my opinion, are the lowest form of life on the planet. Anyone who profits off the misery of others is evil with a capital E. I find it troubling that it takes the death of a celebrity to evoke a public outcry against drug dealers and the poison they peddle while countless thousands die in anonymity. As America continues on its secular path, expect more and more people to try to fill the God space in their life with the lies of satan, the ways of man and the promises of government. And all of this and more is coming to America. Only God can complete you… only Christ can cleanse you and keep you clean.

We know that the Lord can provide through one loaf and a few fish and has done so for these 8 years with just a handful of faithful and dedicated sponsors. Yet, I know that if God has sustained this ministry through these difficult times, I believe that He can bring it into even

Graham was dedicated to “preaching the living Word of the living God.” “You don’t suffer from pride or an inferiority complex because you have your value being a child of God,”
