As American troops stormed the beaches of Normandy, President Franklin Roosevelt called for our nation to unite in prayer. He also offered a prayer to prepare each citizen for the road ahead. “Let our hearts be stout, to wait out the long travail, to bear sorrows that may come, to impart our courage unto our sons wheresoever they may be. And, O Lord, give us faith. Give us faith in Thee.” The victory that followed on June 6, 1944-also known as D-Day-began the march to Berlin. Eighteen months later, WWII was over and one of the world’s greatest evils had been defeated. The prayers of a nation had been a powerful force. Prayer has always been used in this country for guidance, protection and strength-even before we were a nation or a handful of colonies. The Pilgrims at Plymouth relied on prayer during their first and darkest winter. Our founding fathers also called for prayer during the Constitutional Convention. In their eyes, our recently created nation and freedoms were a direct gift from God. And being a gift from God, there was only one way to insure protection-through prayer. President Abraham Lincoln knew this well. It was his belief that, “it is the duty of nations as well as men, to owe their dependence upon the overruling power of God.” When it came to the fate of the nation, he practiced what he preached. Before the battle of Gettysburg, he turned to God in prayer. “I went to my room one day and I locked the door and got down on

Today the need for prayer is as great as ever. Our nation again faces battlefields, along with an epidemic of broken homes, violence, sexual immorality and social strife. As the heroes of our nation did in the past, we must again bow our heads in prayer. We must ask the Lord to bless our leaders with wisdom and protection, and that we will have the fortitude to overcome the challenges at hand. If Roosevelt, the Pilgrims and Lincoln never underestimated the power of prayer, neither should we.* Today, we live in a world besieged by natural disasters, a nation that is heading towards socialism and godlessness, a nation and state that is racing toward bankruptcy both financially and morally and a community with a legacy of crime, drugs, gangs and poverty. We NEED Revival! Revival comes ONLY through prayer. On Thursday, May 6th, hundreds of people from various local churches and denominations will join together to seek God’s face, and “cry out” for His Merciful Hand of Grace. We will gather throughout the day to give our community what it badly needs: Prayer. Even more than jobs or levees, prayer is our only hope! The Christian Business Alliance (CBA), led by David Kugelman, has been sponsoring the
local Yuba-Sutter Prayer Breakfast on the National Day of Prayer. The Ambassador Ministry is a co-sponsor. The breakfast will be held at the Church of Glad Tidings (off Hwy 99 at Eager Rd, near Live Oak). This year, the CBA is pleased to host Beale AFB Chaplain (Major) Christian Biscotti as the keynote speaker. Chaplain Biscotti is clearly not ashamed of his faith in Jesus Christ even in “politically-correct world” of the US Military. In addition, there will be a time for small group prayer at each table. The breakfast is scheduled for 7:00 –

The National Day of Prayer was initiated in 1952 through the efforts of Conrad Hilton (Hilton Hotels) and Senator Frank Carlson. In 1988, President Reagan, signed into law that the first Thursday in May would be “National Day of Prayer”. In 1991, Shirley Dobson accepted the role of chairperson of the NDP Task Force, in which she continues to serve. When Good Enough Isn’t!

Have you ever asked yourself Just what does God do? I have and I know what His major business is. You may think Well, I never thought about it much; however, I guess He keeps busy just running this vast universe He created. In Hebrews 1 we read that God made the universe and now He sustains all things just by the power of His word. In other words, just as He ordered every species to produce its own kind (Gen 1:24), He set the universe in its place and sustained it by His ordering word (Gen. 1: 17). So with all of this done by the power of His word, what else does God do? What is His real business? He does run a business, so to speak, and that business is the business of forgiveness. Ever since He finished the creation with Adam and Eve and they disobeyed His directive to not eat of one tree in the Garden, He has been in the forgiveness business.

He first provided a sacrifice for Adam and Eve in order to clothe their nakedness. He then established sacrifices for the Children of Israel in order that they might have forgiveness for their sins. Then in the fullness of time God brought His only Son Jesus Christ to earth so that He might make the ultimate and final sacrifice on the cross for the sins of all mankind (John 3:16-18). The Bible tells us that we have all sinned (Romans 3:23) and that is reinforced in 1 John 1:8. However, God’s business of forgiveness is assured to us (1 John 1.9). Some might think that this just and perfect God is only interested in judging and condemning mankind’s failures and sins. Although the Scriptures tell us that God does record our sins, forgiveness awaits our call (Psalms 130: 3-4). In my book, It’s Never Too Late you will find a story of not only His great and ready forgiveness, but of His patience with one of His straying sheep. The promise of Romans 10:9-13 is for you. Years ago I worked in construction and my employer required me to join the carpenter’s union. As a member of the union it was necessary to attend two weeks of union classes learning the various aspects of the construction trade. One day the instructor assigned a project that we were to complete individually, and for a couple of hours I diligently followed the specifications. When I was satisfied with the finished product I handed it to the instructor and asked, “So, what do you think? Is this good enough?” I will never forget that crusty old carpenter looking over the top of his glasses and saying, “Young man, in this business there ain’t no such thing as good enough.” As those words came from his lips, I may have been listening to one carpenter, but I heard a different Carpenter speaking. A man was talking, but Jesus was speaking because in His Word I read…

“And this is my prayer… that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless until the day of Christ.” Philippians 1:9-10 Someone once said that the primary enemy of the best is NOT the bad, but the good. Meaning the bad can be easily avoided because it is easily seen. But the good? Well, that is on the acceptable end of the spectrum, so “good enough” is deemed… well… good enough. Somehow believing that if we at least get close to the best, that is sufficient. Sadly, this mindset has become prevalent within Christian circles. It is far too common to hear comments such as, “I may not be perfect, but I am better than most.” Or “I know I can do better, but that is good enough.” God’s desire is for us to discern what is best. Aim for what is best. Do what is best. Live the best. Speak the best. In doing so, as the passage above mentions, we enjoy a degree of purity and blamelessness. With the “bad” on one end of the spectrum and the “best” on the other end, we find “good enough” falls somewhere in the middle. Sounds kind of like being lukewarm, don’t you think? And do we need to be reminded what the Bible says about that? ▄

Reconciliation Day

"I love my family, Ann," the woman wrote, "but we've grown apart. My mother and her sister haven't spoken to each other in five years. What a waste of precious time." The writer went on to suggest that a special day be set aside for reaching out and making amends. She suggested calling it Reconciliation Day, a day when people would vow to write a letter or make a phone call and mend a strained or broken relationship. All would agree to accept the olive branch extended by a former friend. The day would be a starting place for the healing of wounded hearts. Ann Landers ran the letter in her column on April 2, 1989, and promoted the idea of Reconciliation Day. For years afterward, she received letters from readers whose lives changed when they took the message to heart and reached out to estranged loved ones. It was noble of Ann Landers to initiate the observance of April 2 as Reconciliation Day, but let's see if a similar event originated in the throne room of heaven. Imagine a day in eternity past, when there was no earth. God the Father and God the Son are discussing their glorious plan for creation. "They're going to reject me, Son," the Father says. "Yes, I know, Father. But I'll do whatever it takes to bring them back to You.” "I'm going to create them with flesh and blood. The blood will be their life. Their sin will be their death. What will You do to guarantee their life?" the Father asked.
Solemnly the Son answered, "I will take on their flesh and pour out my blood in place of theirs. Then when they come to You for reconciliation, You will see their lives through my blood. It will be as if they'd never sinned.” "Yes, Son. That sounds like a plan. Let's get to work. Let's put some life on that blue-green planet we made!” This miraculous plan for reconciliation must have been in the Apostle Paul's mind when he wrote Romans 5:6-10. He says that when humanity was utterly helpless, at just the right time, Christ came and died for sinners. We were enemies rejecting the friendship God desired at the time of creation. Our friendship was restored by the death of the Son, and we will be saved through the life of the Son. That is a cause for great rejoicing. We have a wonderful new relationship with God because our Lord Jesus Christ has made us friends of God. The word reconciliation means "to change or exchange." Since God cannot change, reconciliation is a gift He offers us. We are the ones who are hostile, and it is our attitude that must change. We receive reconciliation when we die to our need to control our lives and let Jesus cover us with the blood he shed at Calvary. Then the Father sees us and says, "Yes, I welcome you as my friend. Come enjoy the benefits of My sovereignty. Live in the power of my resurrected Son!" Let's celebrate Easter as a miraculous Reconciliation Day! ▄

FAMILY What To Do If Your Child Has an Eating Disorder by New Life Ministries and Jim Burns, Ph.D.
Eating disorders are a widespread health issue in our culture. For as much as we’ve done to educate our kids about the dangers of eating disorders, many young people still struggle because of self-image issues. One teen magazine editor recently remarked that one of the top ten things teen girls tell her is that “I think about my looks all of the time.” And, this issue is not only a female problem. The University of Maryland’s Health Office reported that the numbers of male students seeking treatment for eating disorders has dramatically increased in recent years. Today, many teens obsessed with being skinny have resorted to taking diet pills. This is a dangerous trend! Let me state very clearly that unless specifically prescribed by a physician, no child should be taking diet pills! Almost without exception, young people who have eating disorders should see a professional counselor. Eating disorders are complex and are much greater than the average parent can handle alone. I found some great tips on dealing with someone who has an eating disorder on New Life Ministries’ website (www.newlife.com). I’m adapting them and offering them here for parents who know (or suspect) their child has an eating disorder. Do’s and Dont’s for Dealing With Eating Disorders Do: 1. Know the signs of eating disorders. Check out our free article on the HomeWord website, Information on Eating Disorders. 2. Learn what community and healthcare resources are available. 3. Understand that eating disorders are complex. Recovery is not just a matter of getting your child to eat more or to stop vomiting. 4. Discuss your concerns with your child. 5. Be compassionate. Try not to lecture. Be a good listener. 6. Be empathetic. Try to understand things from your child’s perspective. It’s likely that your child has made decisions based on their feelings (e.g. “I’m so fat!”) rather than on facts and logic.

7. State what you have observed. Provide evidence of the problem. 8. Express your concerns for your child’s health – not just their weight. 9. Let your child know that they must be evaluated by a doctor, and possibly a counselor. 10. Have patience. Your child may have setbacks along the way. 11. Respond during emergencies. If you find your child is throwing up several times per day, passing out, complaining about chest pain, or talking about suicide, get help immediately. 12. Find support for yourself. Talk to a trusted friend, pastor, counselor, or find a support group for parents of kids with eating disorders. Don’t: 1. Don’t make promises you can’t keep. For example, don’t agree not to take your child to see a doctor if they promise to eat more, stop throwing up, etc. 2. Don’t be what you are not. Most parents aren’t qualified in professional healthcare or in counseling. Don’t try to be a substitute for a professional. 3. Don’t nag your child about eating or not eating. Don’t focus family conversations on food or weight. 4. Don’t be judgmental. Don’t refer to your child in anger as being, “sick”, “stupid”, or “self-destructive”. 5. Your Body- Your Temple By Dan Duran - Yuba City 1 Corinthians 6:15- Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ himself? 1Corinthians 6:19-20- Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body. What is exercise? I recently heard it defined as “movement with force.” Another definition is “physical activity that is a planned, structured movement of the body designed to enhance physical fitness.” From a weight management perspective, exercise burns calories. Why is this important? Simply stated, the law of thermodynamics can be defined as a person's body burning more calories, or energy, than it consumes. This deficit in calories will result in subsequent weight loss. For example, if a person consumes 1,500 calories in one day and in that same day burns 2,000 calories by
exercise and daily routine, then that person would have a deficit of 500 calories that day. With one pound of fat equaling 3,500 calories, that person should lose 1 pound per week by remaining in a 500 calorie deficit for each day of that week. Does this mean you have to join a gym or run 10 miles a week? No! What about parking your car further from the store? Printing a document at the printer furthest from your desk? How about doing chair squats or curling cans of beans during commercials when watching your favorite TV shows? We have to choose to exercise more, it will not happen on its own. It’s Okay to say the “J” word! By Dave Kugelman - Marysville Why is there so much opposition to the name of Jesus Christ? It makes sense when unbelievers challenge believers not to pray in His name. But what doesn’t make sense is when (so-called) followers of Jesus Christ feel justified in not praying or speaking His name because of fear they may offend someone. The other reason some Christians avoid using the name of Jesus is they want unity with other faiths and they know the name of Jesus creates division. No duh! Jesus said this, "Don't imagine that I came to bring peace to the earth! No, I came to bring a sword. (Mt. 10:34) He goes on to say that there will be division within families because of Him. If there is going to be division within families because of Jesus, then there certainly will be even greater division outside of the family. We need to be proud to identify with Christ regardless of the cost. He died a horrifying humiliating death for us! How could we ever deny Him? Sometimes I am a coward when it comes to standing up for Jesus. When that happens I am ashamed of myself. I continually pray for more boldness. My prayer is to have the courage that I read about in the Book of Acts. Check it out! The religious leaders re-stated that they were not to speak the name of Jesus ever again. The apostle’s response was the same as before. We won’t stop! They were flogged as a result of their defiance. Shouldn’t the apostle’s example in the Book of Acts be our model on standing firm for Christ regardless of the opposition? Let me answer my own question; YES! There is salvation, healing and deliverance in the name of Jesus. That is why his name is a threat to so many people. Don’t allow our culture (or other Christians) to convince you that there is any acceptable scenario when the name of Jesus should not be used. Acts 4:12 - There is salvation in no one else! There is no other name in all of heaven for people to call on to save them." Go Jesus! The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) is not a part of the vast, right-wing conspiracy, religious or otherwise. It is tasked with disease control and prevention, and reports the stubborn facts about an array of health problems. A data analysis released today by the CDC finds that homosexuals have an HIV infection rate that is more than 44 times higher than that of sexually normal men. Forty-four times the rate of infection for a deadly virus that kills its hosts. Further, the rate of syphilis infection among men who have sex with men (MSM) is an astonishing 46 times higher than that among sexually normal men. Says Kevin Fenton, M.D., of the CDC, "[T]his analysis shows just how stark the health disparities are between this and other populations.” The FDA, which again is not the research arm of the American Family Association or the Family Research Council, says that the prevalence of HIV infections among MSM is 60 times higher than in the general populace. It is for that reason that a man who has had sex with another man even one time since 1977 is not allowed to donate blood. Don't miss this. For a man to have sex with another man poses so much danger to the nation's health that if a man has had sex even one, single, solitary time with another man in the last 33 years, he cannot be allowed to give blood. The risk of imparting a lethal infection through a tainted blood supply is simply too high. The FDA reports that the second highest risk group for HIV/AIDS is found among intravenous drug abusers. Bottom
line: homosexual behavior is even more dangerous than injection drug use. Neither should be accepted, promoted, honored, endorsed, sanctioned or given special protections in law. The FDA also reports that since the AIDS epidemic began in 1977, an astonishing 91% of all afflicted males contracted it through having sex with man or through drug injection. "Heterosexual AIDS" is a myth. If there was ever a sexual behavior that deserved to be militantly opposed, in law as well as in public policy, homosexuality is it. It is lethal, it is fatal, and it is the height of callous indifference to tell these men that not only is their behavior okay, we will punish anyone who dares to criticize it. There is simply no genuine compassion in the hearts of those who would celebrate a lifestyle that consigns its practitioners to death. Pro-family groups are the ones who are accused of lacking compassion. But note this: we are not calling for homosexuals to be put to death. We're calling for them to get help, and simply saying that homosexual behavior should not be legalized or normalized in any way. It's the same stance we take toward IV drug abuse, and for exactly the same reasons. Homosexual activists, on the other hand, are handing out death sentences like candy by celebrating behavior that kills. Where is the compassion in that? Profamily groups are promoting life while homosexualist groups are promoting death. Zero compassion is being shown by

those who cheer as homosexuals march off into the night to sign their own death warrants. The truest compassion is being demonstrated by those who stand athwart history and yell, "Stop!” The prevalence of HIV/AIDS in the homosexual community is so striking that even homosexual activists are getting the picture and once again claiming this disease as their own. Matt Foreman of the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force said exactly that in 2008: "Folks, with 70 percent of the people in this country living with HIV being gay or bi, we cannot deny that HIV is a gay disease.” He added that homosexuals "have to own that and face up to that." Well, they're not the only ones who have to face up to that. Our entire culture does, including the military. The military is on track to normalize behavior that decimates those who engage in it. The potential impact on military readiness is clear. The health care costs to infected soldiers will represent an enormous drain on taxpayer resources. Further, soldiers in combat situations must be able to donate blood to save the life of an injured comrade. This means that homosexual soldiers are non-deployable. No homosexual can be sent into combat because his donated blood could kill his fellow solider rather than save him. It's insanity for our culture - including the military - to normalize such self- and other-destructive behavior. I daresay even the folks at the CDC and the FDA, if they allowed themselves a moment of honesty, would agree. ▄

ENTERTAINMENT/MEDIA Show takes Nickelodeon down dark path Allie Martin - OneNewsNow T h e P a r e n t s Te l e v i s i o n Council (PTC) is sounding a warning about a cartoon on the children's network, Nickelodeon. Glenn Martin DDS follows the adventures of a traveling dentist and his family. The new show airs during primetime, and its content has Melissa Henson, PTC's director of public education, crying foul. "[In] the first few episodes that aired, there were references to pornography," she explains. "There's a running joke about the family pet, which is a dog. More recently, an episode featured the main character, Glenn Martin, performing in a male strip club trying to earn money to work off gambling debt.” Henson believes the show marks a new direction for the network. "It's the first time that they've developed an original programming to air in that time, but it's also...being promoted...as a family program -something that parents can sit down and watch with their kids," she adds. "But when you take a closer look at the content, it is not something I think that most parents would feel at all comfortable allowing their children to watch.” The PTC spokeswoman encourages concerned parents to contact Nickelodeon about the program.

New show shares sermonless parables The former pastor of the Crystal Cathedral has launched a new business venture. Last year, Robert A. Schuller and h i s b u s i n e s s p a r t n e r purchased American Life TV Network, the first network targeting baby boomers that features situational comedies, dramas, classical movies and original programs. If so, you have simply GOT to read Mark Batterson's latest book! "Primal" encourages the believer to strip away all of the stuff and fluff of faith and get down to the bare bones. When we do that, the question is...what do we have left? By getting to the essence of what we believe, why we believe, and in whom we believe, we revitalize our faith and long for more. What sparked such a book? Mark and his family took a trip down into the heart of St. Peter's Basilica in Rome... ...into the ancient catacombs. Where believers once hid for their faith. Once suffered greatly for their faith. Once died for their faith. Where faith in God was viceral...soulish...primal. Especially in America, we tend to complicate faith in God. We tend to intellectualize belief in Christ. We tend to argue points of doctrine rather than adore and adhere to Biblical teaching. In fact, we are in danger of idolizing worship of God rather than truly worshiping God. Mark takes the greatest and singular commandment that Christ Himself gave us: Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind and with all your strength. So simple, yet so deep! He breaks it down bit by bit, examining what it is like to truly love God whole-heartedly, with your entire mind, etc. You will find his thoughts intriguing, maybe a bit controversial...but most definitely stirring. For instance (this one really grabbed me by the heart), did you know we are to honor and worship God with our creativity? How many times in Scripture are we told to 'sing unto Him a NEW SONG'? And, as He is the God of all creation, calling what He made in six days 'very good'.... ....doesn't it make sense that He gets honor and great pleasure when we create

for Him? And Mark isn't talking about paintings, stories, or music...no, he goes much deeper than that. This review I'm writing, urging you to read Mark's book and deepen and enliven your walk with God? I'm creating in God's honor. How cool is that?!? “The Peter Principle” (part 3) By Janis Maasen - Forbestown
Peter is famous for denying to be a disciple of our Lord when asked by three persons just prior to our Lord's crucifixion and subsequent resurrection. Peter quit Jesus, but Jesus never gave up on Peter! After Peter's baptism in the Holy Spirit at the Day of Pentecost, he publicly proclaimed his allegiance to his resurrected Lord. Peter stood to address those mocking the disciples, raised his voice, and said, "let this be [explained] to you so that you will know and understand; listen closely to what I have to say" (Acts 2:14, AMP). Then, for 22 verses, Peter explains 1) the outpouring of God's Holy Spirit (which they saw and mocked through the gift of tongues in the lives of the disciples who waited in the Upper Room), 2) they took the miracle worker, Jesus, who had been delivered to them and by their wicked hands He was crucified, 3) the prophetic fulfillment of Jesus' resurrection and 4) "that God has made Him both Lord and Christ (the Messiah) this same Jesus Whom you crucified" (vs 36). Imagine Peter standing up to the religious leaders, from whom he had just denied knowing Jesus, and teaching them the very scriptures they were to be teaching others! There is no reasonable explanation for Peter's boldness and confident assurance of scripture other than his miraculous transformation by the power of God's Holy Spirit! In Acts chapter one, Jesus told the disciples not to "depart from Jerusalem" (ie: evangelize) until the promised Holy Spirit came. They were to wait because the Holy Spirit would bring the recipient
" p o w e r " (ability, efficiency and might - AMP). After his baptism in the Holy Spirit, P e t e r embarked on his holy calling - to begin constructing the Living Church of the Living God! As a leader, Peter was challenged with many things: keeping believers united, wicked motivations, false doctrines, racism, elitism and other problems that arose as he lived out the remainder of his life faithfully executing his call to lead. Peter got caught up in the racial divide between Jewish believers (of which he was one) and non-Jewish believers. God sent the Apostle Paul to rebuke Peter after which Peter corrected his error. Though gifted with leadership, Peter was aimless without the enabling power of God's Holy Spirit. As a Spirit-filled leader, Peter faithfully taught believers "to make (their) calling and election sure: for if you do these things, you will never stumble or fall" (2 Peter 1:10). We find companies that manufacture building materials, tools, supplies and related products that have a need to dispose of overstock, slow-moving, obsolete or off-spec (usable) product that can be donated at a substantial tax credit to the donor. We at RVCOC then re-distribute these materials to families and individuals who have a need for them, and could otherwise not afford them. This is true recycling; we keep the materials out of the landfill at the same time helping the donor company "Go Green" and recycle the materials, we get the materials to people who really need them and otherwise could not afford them, and we do this, not for profit, but for the benefit of all people. By upgrading the homes and buildings in our communities with these new materials, we increase the property and neighborhood value and enhance the appearance; this also makes the homes more energy efficient thus conserving energy while lowering the family’s bills, making this a true win-win solution to many issues. Our future is even further vision of this "true" recycling. We want to recycle unemployed, homeless, disabled, or any other people who need or desire to get back into a rewarding and productive role, doing work for other under-resourced families to install these materials, thus
creating a network of people who need a hand up, helping people who need a hand up. This can be much more than just a warehouse full of materials; it can be a central starting point for creating a "Grass Roots" network of neighbors helping neighbors, families helping families, organizations helping organizations, and people helping people. We will keep 1 million pounds of materials from reaching our landfills every year. We feel we have been put in charge of organizing and caring for God’s abundance. OPINIONS IGNORANCE WILL BE NO EXCUSE by Jon Skillman - Oroville
The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of men who surpress the truth by their wickedness. Romans 1:18 I read in the paper where six people had been arrested for the beating death of an elderly man during a home invasion robbery. The article listed the victim’s age at seventy-thee… Not an age I would term as elderly due to its close proximity to my own. There were several aspects of this crime that caused me to pause and ponder. This brutality didn’t happen in Oakland or New York City. No… It happened right here in little old Oroville. And it wasn’t perpetrated by group of hardened criminals; it was perpetrated by a group of kids, kids fourteen to sixteen years of age. I lowered the paper to my lap as anger soured my stomach and sadness gripped my heart. What possible circumstance could breed such evil? What possible environment could foster such disregard for human life? Had they no conscience? Compassion? No morality? Were they nothing more than an amoral mob… A pack of wild dogs? I tried to imagine a mindset that would cause six children to act so violently? What objective could drive six kids to such cruelty? I could find no explanation or excuse for such depravity. How could this have happened? Why did it happen? I could only shake my head at the senselessness of it all. As I returned my attention back to the paper I came upon a headline that read;

“Supreme Court orders removal of The Ten Commandments from the grounds of an Oklahoma courthouse.” What are these people afraid of, I thought. Aren’t the Ten Commandments a good moral guide? Then I read an item headlined; “10 indicted in gang slayings,” in which it described how ten members a street gang in San Francisco had killed three people, including gunning down a 28 year old man in front of his family. What on earth is going on in this country I asked myself. Directly below the gang slaying piece was, and I kid you not, an article headlined; “Symbolic beach cross to be moved.” It seems the City of Monterey had received complaints about the cross being on public property (you know, another misinterpretation of “separation of church and state). Anyway, it made no difference that the cross has stood for decades marking the landing site of a Spanish Explorer, the difference was, some intolerant crossaphobe had complained and in the name of jellyfish and all things spineless, city officials caved in faster than a sand castle at high tide. Does anybody detect a pattern here? Could it be, that for every step we take away from God we are one step closer to evil? Has the removal of God and His laws from our public domain made it difficult for us to recognize, let alone resist evil? I tell you the truth; ignorance of God’s law will be no excuse. ▄

Can’t We All Just Get Along? By Seth Halpern This infamous question of Rodney King has become a catch phrase of modern day culture, referring to racial tension and division. Unfortunately, it seems tragic to have to ask this same question when it comes to the Body of Christ. You might think that I’m speaking of the theological differences between denominations. I’m not. Maybe the conservative vs. liberal type of difference? Again, No. This is the “division” that comes between “soldout” followers of Christ! “How so?” you might ask. I have seen, heard, and experienced committed Christians showing intolerance of other Christians purely because of personal or spiritual preferences. Let me point to a few examples. First, worship styles: Some conservative worshipers might have a problem with those that feel the need to express themselves emotionally through lifting their hands, dancing or shouting. On the other hand, those inclined to more “active” worship might judge the more reflective, quiet, reverent worshiper as not being “led by the Spirit”. What about evangelism? Are you more inclined to “street witnessing” and handing out tracts? Or do you tend to build relationships with neighbors and co-workers so that they can see how you live your life? Which way is right? Both. Then there is discipleship: Are you more “graceoriented” offering continual encouragement and forgiveness, or do you see the need to challenge people to
honor God through “holy living”? Both are characteristics of our Lord, but do you “lean” to one side? Finally, What is your “hot button”? Are you focused primarily on pro-life issues, marriage & family issues, politics, the homeless? All are important. So what is the bottom line here? After asking a lot of questions, it’s really about what I refer to as Celebrating “Biblical” Diversity. The terms “tolerance” and “diversity” have been hijacked by the liberal community. I’m talking about “Biblical” diversity. God has given different gifts and different callings but the same Spirit. Paul makes this clear in 1 Cor 12. I thank God for those committed Christians involved in politics, because I am personally not called to go there. However, I do need to vote and be an informed citizen. I’m not gifted specifically in street witnessing, yet it is my responsibility to share my faith as God gives opportunities. The point is that we are each given a calling and a purpose, so we need to do SOMETHING. Although I pray for and encourage people to help me with my calling (The Ambassador Ministry), the Holy Spirit has called some to help and others to do something else. I cannot “evangelize” my ministry, calling, or “pet-peeve”. God calls each of us for HIS purposes. Let’s respect each other’s Biblical callings and gifts and perhaps “we will all be able to get along”! ▄
