“Look, I am coming soon!” Revelation 22:7 The Mayans predicted it. Conspiracy theorists have confirmed it. Hollywood even made a movie about it. Could the next twelve months culminate in the end of the world as we know it? Think about it from the Christian perspective. We’ve never been closer to the technology necessary for every eye to see him as the Bible predicted in Revelation 1:7. There was no way technologically this could have happened one hundred years ago. But today it could be as simple as telling your iPhone, “Siri, record Jesus riding that cloud down from heaven and post it on Youtube.” (If she refuses then maybe she is the antichrist! Aha!!!)
The Mayans predicted it. Conspiracy theorists have confirmed it. But, on the more serious side, there are true signs of the times on a global scale from economic turmoil to military tensions to religious conflicts. The Eurozone has transformed into a financial roller coaster and the “Arab Spring” has been carried over into Winter. A crazy dictator died and now his unknown son rules the nuclear-enabled roost (AKA “North Korea”). All of this sounds like iron mixed with clay (Daniel 2:43) mixed with the plot from a Left Behind DVD to me. So will 2012 be the year of Christ’s

return? Drumroll please… I have no idea and neither do you. Jesus told his disciples in Acts 1:7, “It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority.”In the Greek this means, “It’s none of your beeswax” or something like that. Nobody knows the time of his return, not the Mayan’s camp or the Harold Camping. So how should we as Christians respond to 2012? Here are three reminders: 1. Live every moment as if it were your last…because it could be. From the time Jesus ascended into the clouds Christians have wondered if this could be the year that Jesus descends from them. And rightly so. The whole point of prophecy is to make us live with one eye toward the sky. Somebody once said, “Live like Christ died yesterday, rose again this morning and is coming back again tonight.” If we all did that then we would be ready no matter when Jesus decides to return. 2. Don’t drink the Koolaid. There are too many Christians who make definitive declarations about issues that are, at best, a mystery. Don’t try to determine the month, day or year of Christ’s return. Why? Because only God knows! We should not be in the date picking business unless, like the prophet Amos, we pick actual dates for a living (Amos 7:14…okay, so he picked figs… close enough.) We have too much kingdom business to do to waste time trying to predict the unpredictable.

3. Get busy sharing the good news! Right after Jesus told his disciples that trying to determine when his kingdom would come was none of their business he told them what was, “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
We’ve never been closer to the technology necessary for every eye to see him as the Bible predicted in Revelation 1:7. Until Jesus comes back we are to saturate our network of friends, neighbors, co-workers and family with the good news and then we are to reach outside of our social borders to reach anyone and everyone with the gospel! We are to do this with one eye on the clouds and one eye on the crowds that we are to reach before he returns. It is with this cross-eyed perspective that we are to live every moment of everyday. Could 2012 be the year of Christ’s return? Yes! So let’s get busy! Freedom From Fear by Ronnie McBrayer
In the town of Madison, Florida, you can find the Colin P. Kelly memorial, a striking sculpture of four angels, their wings unfurled in the wind. The memorial was dedicated in 1943 to the name and heroics of a B-17 pilot whose plane was shot down just days after Pearl Harbor. Few people know the statue’s namesake, however. It is better known as the “Four Freedoms Monument.” The statue is a representation of President Franklin D. Roosevelt's Four Freedoms that he articulated in his 1941 State of the Union address. Roosevelt said, “We look forward to a world founded upon four essential human freedoms: Freedom of speech, freedom of every person to worship God in his own way, freedom from want, and freedom from fear.” As idealistic and as hard as all these freedoms are to achieve in this world, that last one maybe the hardest: The freedom from fear. There is plenty to be afraid of today, everything from terrorist attacks and spiders to economic collapse and newly harvested cantaloupes. Getting free of fear seems to be a pipedream. Yet, as citizens and people of a kingdom “not of this world,” we have at our disposal a peace that displaces fear, a peace that “surpasses human understanding.” From where does this peace come? Better fiscal policy? More powerful weapons? A hulking stockpile of canned food, bottled water, and ammunition? I doubt it. No, the only source of peace is love. When you know you are perfectly and completely loved, there is nothing left

In The Lord’s Army by Paula McBride
"I may never march in the infantry, ride in the cavalry, shoot the artillery. I may never fly o'er the enemy, but I'm in the Lord's army!" I grew up on this Sunday School tune and vigorously did all the motions, especially the sliding hand-clap that represented the shooting. Imagine my surprise last June, when I peeked in a Sunday School classroom in Nicaragua and saw the children singing the same song in Spanish and doing the same motions! Later that summer, I saw children in Mexico enjoying it as well. Perhaps, like "Jesus Loves Me," "I May Never March in the Infantry" is sung worldwide in countless languages. But "Jesus Loves Me" at least has sound theology in the lyrics. What in the world do marching, riding, shooting, and flying have to do with faith? Shouldn't I be dwelling in Beulah Land, floating on peace like a river, and casting my cares on the One who cares for me? In fact, if I trust that the battle is already won, why should I care about the fight? Those who live in the fascinating facets of God's divine dimension can experience the amazement of engaging in battle while swimming in peace. In one dimension, we live as heirs of God and joint-heirs with Christ. But in the other dimension, we walk on sin-infested soil. Living only in the heavenly dimension stunts our growth. We are called to "go on and become mature in our understanding" (Hebrews 6:1). We are called to enlist in the army of the Lord of Hosts, God Almighty. Like Jonah, my inclination is to run. I avoid conflict at all costs. How can I
possibly be effective as a soldier of the Lord? Then, in the heavenly dimension, His voice reminds me, "Take my yoke upon you and learn from me. My yoke is easy. My burden is light (Matthew 11:2930). "An easy battlefield…yeah, right," I grumble and surrender at the same time. "Show me what to do, Lord." And in His faithfulness, He leads. He's a gentle Warrior. He shows me that I help Him most through prayer. Prayers that I think a wimpy last resort activate angel armies. Prayers that I think unanswered are penetrating strongholds. Prayers that I think are of no avail, reach the Holy Spirit, and He intercedes for me. Oswald Chambers wrote, "When we pray for others, the Spirit of God works in the unconscious domain of their beings that we know nothing about…that kind of intercession does the most damage to Satan's kingdom. The very powers of darkness are paralyzed by prayer." The apostle, Paul, knew of this invisible kingdom when he wrote to the Ephesians about the armor of God. Put it on, he said, so you will be able to stand firm. He told of the belt of truth, the body armor of God's righteousness, the shoes of peace, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, the Word of God. Then he said, "Pray in the Spirit!" There will be battles to wage in 2012. Let's put on the armor of God and pray in the Spirit for His will to be done on earth and in the heavenly places. Onward, Christian Soldiers!
INSPIRATION You Can’t Win If You Don’t Play by Jon Skillman
While watching a football game the other day, I was struck by the similarity of a football team to that of the Body of Christ (the church). In the following paragraphs, I describe the workings of a football team and call upon you, the reader, to draw the correlation to the Body of Christ (as outlined in 1Corintians 12). The objective in football is to advance the ball through the opponent’s defense in such a manner as to score points and secure victory. The head coach enters each game with a game plan and he guides his team in the execution of that plan. A football team is made up of many members, each possessing a specific ability or skill to play a specific position and perform a particular function. Team success is dependent on each player performing his function in unison with the rest of the team (teamwork). This means all players are dependent on each other in order to advance the ball. For example: A quarterback can’t complete a pass unless the receiver is there to make the catch. And, the quarterback can’t throw the ball unless the linemen keep the opposing team from sacking him. In certain situations, the ball is handed off to another player in order to utilize his particular skill in advancing it. This all illustrates how each position is dependent on all the others to do their part. But it is important to note that
even the best of teams don’t always play flawlessly. A receiver may drop the ball, a running back may fumble, a lineman may miss a block or any player may commit a rules infraction that penalizes the entire team. But good teams and good coaching usually overcome these setbacks by remaining focused on the goal of victory. And while it is true that one player doesn’t lose the game, no one player wins it either. And just as one player should not bear the guilt of a loss, no one player should be glorified in a victory. This is what used to be called sportsmanship… and, unfortunately sportsmanship is not always reflected on the field of play. As I sat watching that football game, another glaring similarity between football and the church revealed itself. On any given Sunday, in any given game, roughly a hundred players actively participate in achieving victory, yet tens of thousand cheer from the sidelines and millions more sit and watch on TV. Now here is where the similarities between football and the church ends: Victory in football is temporary and glory fleeting, but in the Body of Christ, victory is eternal and all glory remains with God forever. So here’s the deal… Christianity is not a spectator sport! If you’re on the Team… get in the game! Help advance the Gospel and secure another victory for Christ.

Lewis is calling on pastors from across the United States to contribute the texts of sermons delivered earlier this month, specifically on December 4th for inclusion in an upcoming book, "One Certain Sunday: A Snapshot in Time from America's Pulpits." Lewis wants to capture a moment in the country's spiritual life with the anthology of sermons, delivered in megachurches and small-town chapels, across denominations and across the country from the same day: December 4, 2011. (Photo: ChristianityToday.com) "Every week, pastors work hard to write thought-provoking, insightful and moving sermons," Lewis says. "Few gain wider exposure beyond their immediate congregation. We'd like to shine a light on them, and we're praying that the country's pastors will be willing to share their work." Most ministers are humble people who believe that their sermons are good, but not worth publishing, Lewis says. "That's what makes this project so exciting. We really want to hear the messages that these salt-of-the-Earth preachers de-
liver. They represent the fabric of Christianity as well as their better-known colleagues." He said that Sunday, December 4 was chosen because that date doesn't coincide with any particular Christian holiday or national special event. They didn't want Easter sermons or Lent sermons—they wanted to hear what was being preached on a 'normal' Sunday. Pastors whose sermons are included in the book will receive credit for their work and will be asked to provide brief information about their church and background. God cares how we communicate with other believers. Is there a "communication" resolution below that you should apply to your own life? I will talk less. Proverbs 10:19 - When there are many words, transgression is unavoidable, but he who restrains his lips is wise. James 1:26 - If anyone thinks himself to be religious, and yet does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this man's religion is worthless. I will listen carefully. Proverbs 18:2 - A fool does not delight in understanding, but only in revealing his own mind. Romans 12:15 - Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep. I will rebuke my brother if necessary, and forgive him when he repents. Proverbs 28:23 - He who rebukes a man will afterward find more favor than he who flatters with the tongue. Luke 17:3 - If your brother sins, rebuke him; and if he repents, forgive him. I will accept rebukes and repent. Proverbs 12:1 - Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge, but he who hates reproof is stupid. Romans 6:12 - Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal bodies, to make you obey their passions. I will confess my sins regularly. Proverbs 28:13 - He who conceals his transgressions will not prosper, But he who confesses and forsakes them will find compassion. 7 Bold Predictions for Constitutional Liberty in 2012
by Eric Lyons, M.Min. Apologetics Press Atheists are fond of claiming that their way of thinking is logical, reasonable, and intellectual. They maintain that they are open-minded and refer to themselves as free thinkers. Unlike Christians, who are allegedly delusional, irrational, blind, and absurd, atheists consider themselves utterly rational, sensible people who follow the evidence wherever it leads. Yet atheism says that everything came from nothing. Atheism says that an explosion caused exquisite order. It says that random chances produced precision and that life popped into existence in nature from non-life. Atheism says that the design of the human eye is a delusion, while the design of a camera is apparent. Atheism says that fish and frogs are man’s distant forefathers and that intelligence is the result of non-intelligence. Atheism alleges that either man is on the same moral plane as a moose, or he actually evolved a sense of morality from amoral monkeys. Atheism spends multiplied millions of dollars and countless thousands of hours in search of extra-terrestrial life, which has never been found. When atheism is stripped of pompous proclamations and arrogant allegations, its naked soul is seen for what it really is: weak, illogical, unscientific, and worthless. Atheists blindly believe that, for example, life came from non-life. Rather

than accept what scientific experimentation has repeatedly concluded over the past 200 years (that in nature life comes only from life and that of its own kind), atheists remain committed to a disproven theory. Man has never witnessed mindlessness bring forth intelligence. He’s never seen something come from nothing. While trying to convince others he is galloping confidently atop a stallion called Common Sense, in truth, atheism stumbles on the back of a donkey called Foolishness. Is there any wonder why David said, “The fool has said in his heart, ‘There is no God’” (Psalm 14:1)? For since the creation of the world His [God’s] invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. No one can predict the future, right? Maybe not, but we can make bold prognostications based on years of experience and closely watching trends in the legal world. With that in mind, Pacific Justice Institute offers the following predictions of constitutional and religious liberty headlines in 2012. 1. Health care “reform” will hit a roadblock in the Supreme Court. The U.S. Supreme Court has already signaled its concerns with the constitutionality of the President’s major legislative accomplishment, scheduling more time for oral arguments than has been allotted to a single case in decades. Our bet is that, ultimately, a majority of the Justices will disapprove of this extraordinary power play by the federal government. 2. Religious private schools will need to rewrite their employee handbooks. While health care reform is getting most of the attention at the Supreme Court, other important constitutional cases will be decided by the end of June. The Hosanna Tabor case is grappling with whether, and to what extent, religious private schools should get similar deference as churches in employment decisions. Whatever the outcome of this case, PJI expects that it will provide significant new guidance that should prompt many such schools to revise policies. 3. Same-sex marriage will reach the Supreme Court—but not in the way most Californians expect. As defenders of traditional marriage gear up for an epic showdown at the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals over Prop. 8, several other cases from around the country are less noticeably making a concerted push toward the High Court over the constitutionality of the federal Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA). PJI thinks it is very likely that one or more DOMA
cases will be accepted by the Supreme Court in late 2012 and decided in 2013. 4. The Occupiers will outlast their welcome. Many Americans sympathize to some degree with the Occupy Wall Street movement that has recently spread to hundreds of other cities. But as the movement shows off more of its radical roots, from unpopular port blockades to petty vandalism and civil disobedience, the public is losing interest and empathy. As 2012 political campaigns heat up, we expect increasingly bizarre and disturbing antics from the Occupiers that will only further marginalize them. 5. Unions will spare no expense to preserve their political power in California. Speaking of elections, the 2012 ballot will again include an opportunity for California voters to rein in unions’ astronomical political spending. Expect the unions to drop tens of millions of dollars to distort and defeat this single initiative. 6. Many California schools will “get Milk” for the first time in 2012. Not much has been heard of the late Harvey Milk since LGBT activists pushed a controversial bill through the Legislature a couple years ago, urging schools to celebrate his birthday on May 22. What happened? Well, said birthday has fallen on the weekend the last two years. That will change in 2012, so parents may be caught off guard. 7. The CLASS Act will prompt some very un-classy opposition. The goals of the CLASS Act are simple and embodied in its name, Children Learning Accurate Social Science. But once signature-gathering commences in late January or early February, expect LGBT activists to unleash a smear campaign the likes of which we haven’t seen since Prop. 8. www.pacificjustice.org

“Caught Serving” On Christmas Eve, a traditional Christmas dinner was served to approximately 150 guests including families and children at the Twin Cities Rescue Mission. The delicious feast was organized and directed by Patrick and Doreen Maher using some of their family recipes. Servers included volunteers from area churches and their children which contributed to the warm feeling of family throughout

the day. “Santa” was present in the person of Melody. She gave gifts that were lovingly donated by the children of Hope Pont's Club 45 and others. The meal was preceded by a worship service with preaching by Benny Madrid. Twin Cities Rescue Mission wishes to thank the volunteers who are too numerous to name and those who donated the items needed for such a spectacular event.

Sutter Medical Foundation Donates $5,000 to Seeds of Hope Community Garden

Yuba City, Ca-Sutter Medical Foundation donated $5,000 to the Seeds of Hope Community Garden. The garden, created in the spring of 2011 for local community members to share the experience of gardening, also grows and harvests food for the Hope Point Nazarene Church food pantry in Live Oak to help those in need in the Yuba-Sutter community. “We are very grateful for Sutter Medical Foundation’s generous donation,” said Deidra Bagley who spearheads the Seeds of Hope Community Garden. “It’s very rewarding leading a ministry where people can work together to help those in need. We will use Sutter’s wonderful gift to continue building as sustainable of a garden as possible to help families for years to come.” In order for Seeds of Hope Community Garden to continue providing fresh fruits and vegetables for the food pantry, materials and tools are needed, including gardening tools, top soil, manure, lumber, seeds, and a soil test kit. Along with Sutter Medical Foundation’s donation, other donations of service and materials have also been received from over a dozen local community organizations such as
Recology, Sperbecks, and Botanica Landscapes. This year sixteen raised plots were built and filled with fruits and vegetables that were grown, harvested and distributed to the community through the church’s food pantry. These plots will continue to be available for next spring's use as well. “In 2012 we hope to see the garden to yielding food year round,” said Bagley. “We have space available for families, seniors, individuals, community groups and local businesses to plant and harvest food.” The ultimate goals of the Seeds of Hope Community Garden is to provide a park-like atmosphere to neighboring residents, give people a place to work together and supply fresh produce to local food banks. The Seeds of Hope Community Garden welcomes volunteers and hopes to encourage people of all ages and abilities to grow food for themselves and others. In addition it gladly accepts gifts of donated seeds, transplants, tools and supplies. Seeds of Hope Community Garden, as part of Hope Point Nazarene church, is a 501(c) (3) organization, and accepts charitable financial donations. This past November marked the 14th anniversary of the Christian Business Alliance. I am truly grateful for what God has done through this ministry. There are many aspects of the CBA that I would like to acknowledge but for the sake of space I will reference only a few. The first has to be what God has done in and through me because of this ministry. The second is the number of solid Christian friendships that have resulted because of the CBA. However, I want to focus on the topic of revival. In both our mission and vision statements, the theme of revival is clearly stated. Typically, when we think of revival, we think of God pouring out His spirit in such a tangible way that great numbers of lost souls are saved. We know that it is God and not man who can accomplish this supernatural event. But is there a role believers to play while we wait on God? I recently read the book “Numb” which was written by Francis Anfuso and Dr. Lisa Dunne. The book concludes with a brief overview of what some consider one of the greatest revivals since Pentecost. And that is the Welsh revival of 1904. Evan Roberts who was 27 years old along with a group of even younger men and women were eager to see God move in their region. The condi-
tions at that time were similar to ours: empty churches, cold hearts, lethargic Christians and flourishing evil. (From the book Numb they write) Roberts had a comprehensive, Biblical plan. He listed the key elements needed for God to have his way in us. They became known as the four points. The past must be clear, every sin confessed to God, any wrong to man reconciled. There is no room for compromise with sin. Everything doubtful must be removed once and for all in our lives. No cloud caused by unforgiveness may exist between a believer and God. Prompt, unquestioning obedience, to the Spirit of God must follow repentance. Public confession of Christ must become a way of life. With these four convictions as a filter of faith, the fires of the Welsh revival received their perpetual spark from prayer!Are you willing to embrace these four points in your life as we wait, pray and believe for God to rain down revival on the Yuba- Sutter region? own country and lecturing them first, before she comes to say these things which she knows are very sensitive . . . Homosexuality here is taboo.” Nearly all of Africa’s 54 nations ban homosexuality. Nigeria, Africa’s most populous country, has just proposed banning so-called same-sex “marriages.” The Atlantic reports that “African countries are growing increasingly tired of [the West’s] preoccupation with this issue.” Britain, for instance, has “warned it will consider withholding aid from nations which do not recognize gay rights." This is another setback for our relations with Muslim countries. We’re rubbing their noses in it, telling them that they have to take something that they see, that is homosexuality, as the ultimate expression of Western decadence, and they’ve got to embrace it themselves. Can we force countries to do this? Well, the Administration’s position is that countries should prohibit the brutalizing of gay people, and that’s a proper thing for the Administration to do. No one should be, as Land said, “flogged or put to death for their sexual sins.” But to actively promote the LGBT agenda abroad is disastrous. This new policy to affirmatively advance gay rights will compromise our relations with African countries, Catholic countries, and Muslim-majority nations. And, as I said on BreakPoint earlier, contrast the Administration’s aggressive stand here with their silence over religious persecution. Religious liberty, remember, is enshrined in our Constitution. Any way you look at it, Secretary Clinton’s announcement is bad news. Either the Administration is playing politics with our foreign policy to appease sexual liberals, or it is aggressively exporting its assault on traditional morality and marriage. For shame.
Last month I wrote about my experience through my heart surgery and recuperation. One thing I noted was that my son wrote a piece on thankfulness to God. His thanks to God was also a tribute to me (not that I feel I deserve it). It caused me to think about the way we honor people in our culture. Typically, unless you are a celebrity, you probably don’t receive “honor” very often until the eulogy. Everyone says wonderful things about the deceased at their funeral but rarely are people honored while they are able to hear it. I understand that most of the people who “should” be honored are also humble enough to NOT want to be honored. Yet, it seems to me that we should honor those among us who are deserving of it. So, I want to invite all of you readers to send in or email your “tribute” to a local person worthy of honor. If you would like to honor, thank, or appreciate a member of our community for their Christ like example, please send a brief note of a sentence or two about how what that person

We should have seen this coming. When the U.S. Secretary of State delivers a major address on U.S. foreign policy, the world listens — and responds. And many nations are a little, shall we say, perplexed, at Hillary Clinton’s announcement that the President has directed all American foreign assistance and diplomatic agencies to advance lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) rights. Secretary Clinton said in a speech, “Gay rights are human rights, and human rights are gay rights.” Actually, this new emphasis has little to do with human rights and almost everything to do with the presidential campaign. Richard Land, president of the Southern Baptist Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission, calls the initiative “more than likely a painless way for the Obama administration to placate the homosexual community in the U.S.” Given the fact that this year the Obama Administration decided not to defend the federal Defense of Marriage Act, which acknowledges that marriage is only between one man and one woman, and that they oversaw the end of the Don’t Ask Don’t Tell policy in the military, it’s not hard to see the agenda that the Administration is following. Not surprisingly, the LGBT community is trumpeting the Administration’s move. But how are countries around the world reacting? The Venezuelan press got it right when it proclaimed that the “rights” of LGBT people are now at the “heart of American foreign policy.” Imagine the implications of that, folks. Predictably, leaders of many nations in Africa are shocked. A senior adviser to Uganda’s president told The Christian Science Monitorthat this approach would be “anathema” to most African nations. “I don’t like her tone,” he said of Mrs. Clinton. “I’m amazed she’s not looking to her
