Celebrating 120 years of Goviers
My association with Goviers stretches back around 20 years but the business has been going a great deal longer than that. The ranges it sells have changed and in the last five years it has moved away from its birthplace in Devon, but many things have remained unchanged; a passion for product and a desire to offer good customer service. We are still a family-owned business and all love what we do. Working with great suppliers and products is what keeps us enthused. We constantly have to keep an eye out for new suppliers who will offer us something different to that seen on Amazon; and that is an increasingly difficult job. But we love a challenge, and this year has seen some great new additions to the range we offer, as well as a few that have fallen by the wayside.
I am sure there are some wonderful stories to be told about the last 120 years of Goviers and we hope that we are adding our own chapter. With a business as old as Goviers you see yourselves as the custodians rather than the owners and hope that one day someone will take over the reins and drive it on to the next big milestone. That is a little way off yet Janet tells me!
As the end of the year approaches, we are always looking round the warehouse to see what product has not sold so well and what we have too much of. Judging what will be popular and what won’t is not an art or a science, it is all about gut instinct. But we don’t always get it right. Having our new warehouse for almost two years has allowed us to have a much better handle on what we have and where it is, helped by a new stock control system and the patience and flexibility of the team.

We do not inflate prices to offer a discount, these are real reductions on the manufacturers retail price and are only available for a limited period.

Aside from the sale, no ramblings would be complete without a mention of our granddaughter Harriett! I think I had forgotten many of the stages that our son went through as a baby, but I am amazed that Harriett is so involved with everything that is going on around her and she is not yet six months old. Weaning has started, no pureed food these days, it is straight into what we are eating and the mess is incredible, but she is enjoying everything. As someone who loves his food it is great to see her getting fully involved with hers! And I mean involved! I think bibs may be needed all round on Christmas Day!

This catalogue is due to land with you straight after Christmas when our offices will be closed but don’t worry if you normally order by phone you can still leave us a message with details of what you want and we will do our very best to make sure that orders are processed in chronological order. Obviously, products will sell out as quantities are limited but we will do our very best to make sure as many customers as possible are satisfied.
As soon as the Christmas break is over our thoughts will turn to the new ranges that our suppliers are launching for 2025. A few we have seen and they will be featuring in the spring but many we will not see until the big trade show in Frankfurt in February. There will no doubt be exciting launches and hopefully a couple of new suppliers to add to our offering. We will certainly do our best to find some things to delight you, and hopefully tempt you to order.
