Hello Lincoln What's On Where Guide November-December 2025

Page 1

City of festive magic

A CITY steeped in history, Lincoln delivers the magic of Christmas with captivating charm.

From the glamour and clamour of Christmas shopping to icy family fun and taking seasonal illuminations to a whole new level, the city has got a ‘cool yule’ covered for everyone.

The festive season officially starts this month when Lincoln’s Christmas Lights are switched on in the city centre on November 27, which also marks the start of Thursday late night shopping sessions.

Entertainment starts at 5pm with BBC Radio Lincolnshire before performers from Stagecoach and CAODS take to the stage at 6pm followed by the cast of Robin Hood - the New Theatre Royal’s panto - at 6.40pm to get the crowds in the mood to celebrate.

The city’s unique combination of independent and high street shops makes present buying a gift and the talents of local artisans are waiting to be discovered along with an varied selection of eateries.

The Mayor of Lincoln, Cllr Bill Mara will switch on the lights with Lincoln’s favourite panto villain, former Olympic gymnast Louis Smith.

The Christmas lights run up Lincoln’s Steep Hill where Lincoln Castle Illuminated starts on November 21and Lincoln Cathedral will shine purple through Advent until it turns gold for Christmas Day.

Lincoln Ice Adventure returns over the weekend of December 6-7 treating families to a trail of frozen sculptures, festive entertainment and demonstrations.

Visit the Cornhill Market or warm up with a treat at Thor’s Tipi before visiting the Waterside Shopping Centre where Santa’s Grotto will be installed from Saturday, November 22 (see page 23).

Other festive favourites include:

l Advent Wreath Festival at St Mary Magdalene’s Church, November 27December 18

l Lincoln Medieval Christmas Market at St Mary le Wigford Church – December 4-7

l Christmas Craft Fair at The County Assembly Rooms – December 4-7

l The Maker’s Market at St Paul in the Bail – December 13-14 and 20-21

l Lincoln Santa Fun Run – Sunday 14 December, celebrating its 20th year.

Get ready for Peter Hook & The Light

PETER Hook & The Light play The Engine Shed on Thursday, November 27 as part of a full UK tour and the Independent has two tickets to give away.

The gig which will see the band play the seventh studio New Order album, Get Ready, in its entirety followed by a full set of Joy Division and New Order classics, such as Love Will Tear Us Apart, She’s Lost Control, True Faith and Blue Monday. It’s over 40 years since Peter Hook (pictured) formed New Order with Bernard Sumner and Stephen Morris following the death of

Win tickets!

Joy Division’s singer Ian Curtis. They created a band with a unique electronic sound and some of the earliest experimentation with synthesisers – many of which were in their pioneering phase at the time.

Peter points out that New Order were much more successful commercially than Joy Division, but Joy Division’s influence has spread globally.

“Every new band these days seems to get compared to one or the other, so it’s lucky I was in both!”

Sadly, it’s no longer possible to see the original line-up of New Order on stage due to an acrimonious split, but despite the bitter rivalry, Peter is determined to put his heart and soul into keeping the back catalogue alive.

He takes centre stage while his son takes on the bass. He says: “Singing has given me a great appreciation of the lyrics, which I didn’t have before when I was playing.”

The Get Ready album was released in 2001 and reached No. 6 in the UK chart. It was dedicated by the band to Rob Gretton, the manager of both Joy Division and New Order, who died in 1999. Peter added: “Looking back now it was very enjoyable to make, and I think it is massively underrated. I am looking forward to playing all the tracks, many of which have never been played live before.”

To win a couple of tickets to see the Engine Shed show just let us know which New Order single sold the most copies in the UK?

Send your answers to admin@lincolnindependent.co.uk marked Peter Hook by Monday, November 24.

Tickets on sale as concert series takes shape

MULTI-platinum selling artist Tom Grennan is the latest chart-topper to be announced for a series of summer concerts at Lincoln Castle in 2026.

The BRIT and Ivor Novello-nominated star will head to TK Maxx presents Live at Lincoln Castle on Sunday, June 21 and tickets go on sale at 10am next Friday, October 31 from lincolncastle.com and ticketmaster.co.uk

Tom joins Billy Ocean, Pete Tong’s Ibiza Classics and David Gray among the first headline announcements for TK Maxx presents Live at Lincoln Castle 2026, which is presented as part of an ongoing partnership with Lincolnshire County Council and Live Nation promoters Cuffe and Taylor, to bring world class artists to perform in the city’s historic landmark.

Cuffe & Taylor promoter Mark Harrison said: "Tom Grennan’s rise has been phenomenal, and we’re excited to welcome him to Lincoln Castle. His voice, his energy, and his connection with fans make every show unforgettable — next summer will be no exception.”

Cllr Natalie Oliver, executive member for culture at Lincolnshire County Council, said: “With his soaring vocals and infectious energy, Tom Grennan is one of the most in-demand

performers in the country right now, and we cannot wait to welcome him to Lincoln’s incredible Castle.

"Attracting chart-topping superstars like Tom really puts Lincoln on the live music map. Not only that, but the concerts are also a massive boost to the city’s economy – with gig-goers packing out bars and restaurants and extending their stay to soak up all the amazing experiences our great county has to offer.

“With four acts announced, next year’s lineup is already shaping up to be the best on record - and we’re just getting started!”

Editor’s note: As we went to press Paul Weller and Madness had joined the line up
