En otros mares... Global container port capacity will struggle to catch up with rising demand. The bleak outlook of significantly lower throughput levels for container hub ports at the outset of the pandemic has, 18 months later, transformed into an acute capacity shortage at many terminals around the world. The global supply chain was not built for this’: freight delays hammer US. California ports in Long Beach, Los Angeles and Oakland reported delays earlier this year, and this month the Union Pacific and BNSF railroads made it clear that the problem had reached inland. Our ports need investment now. Alaska, which receives 90% of its freight through maritime commerce and with more coastline than the entire Lower 48 combined, would stand to benefit from a thoughtfully crafted federal infrastructure package supporting ports and harbors.
Global liner congestion worsens, 116 ports report disruption: The port congestion pandemic has stretched around the globe with ever greater numbers of containerships idling, waiting for berth spaces to open up across five continents. Chinese ports play key role in global recovery. Brisk activity at ports across China is set to be one of the most visible effects of the ongoing global recovery, a think tank said.
