MAINE-ANJOU Headquarters

M. BLAKE NELSON EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT Greetings, This summer is moving right along! We had a tremendous event at the National Junior Heifer Show due to the hard work of Lindsey, Rylee, and the entire team. The weather was excellent, and the show provided a great experience for the many junior members and their families who attended. The over 800 juniors representing 31 states plus Canada exhibited over 1,200 head of cattle the third week in June in Grand Island, Neb. Even more exciting was the fact that there were over 300 new exhibitors between the Maine and Chi groups. This event is one of the major highlights for the American Maine-Anjou Association each year by supplying an educational opportunity for our future leaders and showcasing some of the best cattle that Maine-Anjou has to offer. After leaving this event, I feel both motivated and very blessed by the members who have invested in and are investing in our breed. Thank you! Current cattle trends look to be moving toward more naturally muscular cattle in both the show and commercial industries; it is our time to shine. There is a lot of buzz about recalibrating the way USDA Yield grades (1965) are scored to better represent AUGUST/SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER 2026 8

the current type of cattle being produced. The total carcass will be utilized and give a more accurate depiction of red meat yield. Maine Anjou can deliver what is sought after and make its presence felt in one generation. The breeders’ commitment to building better cattle with each generation is coming to fruition, and the industry is recognizing this and giving our cattle the respect they well deserve. Speaking of longlasting commitment, we will once again be honoring one of our “greats” in the Maine breed; Mr. Fred Nessler will be honored with induction into the Heritage Road Hall of Fame at the North American International Livestock Exposition this fall in Louisville, KY. The AMAA Board of Directors was glad to recognize Fred’s impact in breeding and promoting Maine-Anjou cattle as owner and operator of Fancy Creek Farms in Sherman, IL, and Waxahachie, TX. Look for details on this event and the activities for the AMAA during our national show. There are also many other opportunities to be involved in American Maine Anjou Association activities. This fall, our show at the Royal and the North American Livestock Exposition in Louisville, KY will be great events, and we look forward to seeing you there. Some other activities that it is time to start planning for are the Bright Lights Sale in Oklahoma City and the Power in the Pens sale (New Schedule) in Denver, CO. These sales have historically featured some of the very best herd sire prospects and females

that our breeders have to offer. The sales are held in conjunction with the Cattlemen’s Congress and the National Western Stock Show in the yards. This is an excellent opportunity to market your program to a large national audience or to find that next impactful bull or female. AGI has formulated the new EPDs, and they are available on Digital Beef. Please recognize there may be some changes to your animals’ EPDs; the percentile ranking should be very close to before, even if the numerical change is substantial. Take a look, and if you have any questions or concerns, please contact us at your convenience Staff Update - You will also see that Dr. Ryan Rathman will be joining the AMAA team as the Consultant for Breed Advancement and Technology. Dr. Rathman’s experience and expansive work in the beef cattle industry will be a great asset to our breed and will be of major benefit in our future. Welcome aboard, Ryan! I want to wrap up by thanking all the sponsors, volunteers, families, and our staff who played a part in the Maine Anjou National Junior Show. Great Job!! I wish you and your families the best of luck at the remaining state fairs and fall shows and the sale run. Best Regards, Blake MAINE-ANJOU- Power without Sacrifice!

SPECIAL AWARDS

JUNIOR DIVISION: CONNOR YOCHUM, OHIO - SENIOR DIVISION: QUINN WHALEY Karen, Chuck, Connor, Quinn, Drew & Madison (Pictured from left)

cody mccullough clip, fit & show like a pro

This award is given in memory of AJMAA member Cody McCullough of Allerton, Iowa. Cody had a deep passion for the Junior National, spending time with family and friends, and working with Maine-Anjou cattle. He especially loved the process of fitting and preparing his animals to the highest standard. A true talent, Cody worked hard at home and was rewarded in the showring. Throughout his junior show career, Cody enjoyed competing in team fitting and showmanship, mentoring younger members, and took great pride in exhibiting his bred-and-owned cattle at national shows across the country. This memorial award honors youth who embody Cody’s passion for fitting and clipping, as well as his love for exhibiting and showing. A heartfelt thank you to Chuck, Karen, Madison, and Drew McCullough for sponsoring this prestigious award in Cody’s memory.

Sibling Ownership Approved by American Maine-Anjou Association Board of Directors June 15, 2026, Grand Island, Nebraska — The American Maine-Anjou Association (AMAA) Board of Directors has approved a new sibling ownership rule for junior exhibitors competing at AMAA-sponsored shows and events. Previously, the AMAA has required junior exhibitors to be the sole owner of an animal exhibited at junior events. The rule will become effective September 10, 2026, and applies to Fullblood, Maine-Anjou, MaineTainer and Maine Angus cattle. The sibling ownership rule will provide families greater flexibility when exhibiting at shows. To qualify, all eligible siblings must be listed on the registration certificate by the ownership deadline. Once listed, any eligible sibling may exhibit the animal without the need for additional ownership transfers. To qualify for sibling ownership: - All owners must be current AJMAA members. - All owners must meet AJMAA age eligibility requirements. - Joint ownership with a farm, ranch or family name is not permitted. What counts as a sibling: - Full siblings - Half-siblings - Adoptive siblings or Step-siblings recognized within the same nuclear family The new sibling ownership rule takes effect September 10, 2026, and will apply to all AMAA-sponsored junior shows and events moving forward. While the AMAA has approved sibling ownership for its sponsored junior shows and events, exhibitors are still responsible for understanding and complying with the ownership requirements established by individual state fairs, regional shows, other national livestock events and other breed associations. Transfer fees may apply. ###

2026 Herdsman of the Year, Jordan Mullett, Griswold Cattle, LLC

2026 Marks 14 Years of the Herdsman Gathering by Lindsey Broek, Editor

The Herdsmen Gathering looked a little different this year, but one thing never changed, the heart behind the cause. For the 14th consecutive year, the Herdsmen came together to invest in the future of the Maine-Anjou breed by supporting the next generation of young cattlemen and cattlewomen. What began as a simple idea has grown into a tradition of generosity, bringing members and breeders together to make a lasting difference. AUGUST/SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER 2026 68

This year’s raffle ticket sales, giveaway prizes, and online auction raised more than $50,000 to benefit deserving MaineAnjou youth. Every ticket purchased, every donated item, every semen and embryo lot donated, and every bid placed was more than just a contribution, it was an investment in the future of our breed and the young people who will lead it forward. On behalf of the Herdsmen, thank you to everyone who supported this year’s efforts your generosity continues to create

opportunities that will impact junior members for years to come. The Maine-Anjou breed is fortunate to be built on more than great cattle. It is built on people who believe in giving back and lifting up the next generation. Thank you for making that possible. We are honored by your support and grateful for your continued investment in our youth. Together, we look forward to seeing the impact these opportunities will have on the future of the Maine-Anjou breed!

Congratulations to this year’s Herdsmen Gathering winners! $10,000 - Joanie Vance, New Mexico $10,000 - Parker Lockhart, Oklahoma $10,000 - Carlee Clark, Oklahoma $5,000 - Kendall Leonhard, Indiana, $2,500 - Luke Jennings, Ohio $2,500 - Madison McCullough, Iowa

MAINE-ANJOU Announcements, News & Events

REGISTRATION WORK PAYMENT All registration work must be paid at the time of submission.

MEMBERSHIP SERVICES & MAGAZINE SUBSCRIPTION Memberships/Dues run from January to December of each year. 2026 Adult dues are $150 (includes magazine). 2026 Junior dues are $50 (Magazine can be ordered for an additional $40). Note: Dues need to be current to register, transfer, sell, or show cattle. MAPP ENROLLMENT DEADLINE 2027 MAPP Enrollment will open on September 1 and close on December 15. All breedingage females must be properly designated as enrolled, exempted, or disposed of. If the process is completed correctly, no animals should remain under the Assessment tab; all applicable animals should be moved accordingly. Anyone who has not completed their 2026 MAPP enrollment will not be able to register any 2026 calves until their 2026 MAPP enrollment is complete. INVOICE AND STATMENT HISTORY: Log into your Digital Beef account. Under the profile information are tabs that run right to left across the screen. Click on “Account.” You may view your current and past invoices by selecting “Show Invoice History.” The information listed under invoice history includes notes when work is held for payment, held for testing, and mailed. If you click “Download Work Detail” in red on the right side of the screen, it will provide your current fees charged. DETAILED STATEMENT: A detailed statement can be created with a date range. This is a good tool to use for tax purposes. AUGUST/SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER 2026 72

DONOR INVENTORY: When cows are flushed from your herd, you may log each donor’s dates and inventory count. • From the left side toolbar, select “Breeding.” and then click on “Embryo Inventory”. • Add new Embryo • Enter the registration numbers of the dam and sire of the donor flushed. • Enter Flush Date • Click on “Find these” • Enter quantity, Tank, and Canister, then click “Save Inventory.” • When selling your inventory, click on “Breeding”. • Select “Embryo Transfer”. • Click on Embryo Inventory in red. • Click on the Blue Link that says “Record Sale”. • Enter how many embryos that were sold. • Enter the buyer member number and date sold. • Transfer embryos to buyer.

programs is available by visiting Maine-anjou. org and clicking “Member Services” and “MAPP Agreement.” If a membership is submitted without choosing a program, the new member will be placed in the Breeders Choice program.

INCOMPLETE REGISTRATION AND PERFORMANCE DATA: If work is submitted for weaning and yearling but not completed, AMAA will delete the entry within three business days, and the work will need to be added once the data is provided. AMAA will also delete registrations with incomplete fields such as blank dams, sires, birthdates, names, tattoos, or not owners of the dam that are entered within two weeks. The exception would be registration entries that are pending due to testing. Please be aware that once a registration has been entered and the “Validate” button is selected, it goes to the registrar to be completed, invoiced, and closed. AMAA will attempt to contact you before deleting the entry via email.

HELPFUL TIPS WHEN REGISTERING: Follow the tips below to avoid delays in your registration work during our busy season. Double-check that all blanks and information are complete before mailing or submitting online. Things most commonly missed are: o Missing herd prefix and herd ID o Birthdates o Date of sale o Name of animal o Payment Make sure the person registering the animal owns the dam, with the exception of ET calves. If an ET calf, make sure the donor dam has DNA verified and has been PHA & TH tested with the results on file. If you are checking on testing work, please e-mail Rylee at rylee@amaapc. com. When calling or e-mailing, please have the name and breeder number of the person submitting the work. When registering annual active dams for performance-only animals, please submit them

NEW MEMBERS: All new members must choose a program when submitting a new membership. The two available programs are MAPP and Breeders Choice. More information on these two

MEMBERSHIP ACCOUNTS It is the AMAA policy to only share account information with those authorized on an active account, no matter the account holder’s age. The account holder must provide written permission to add a person(s) to their account to transfer and register on their behalf. Anyone not authorized to access an account will not be provided passwords or invoice information, regardless of age or relation to the account holder. The account holder can only call or e-mail the AMAA directly to remove or add any person(s) to/from their account. Any authorized person on the account can register, transfer, obtain, or change passwords once they are on the account.

MAINE-ANJOU Announcements, News & Events

online if you have the capability. This will help the registrar process them tremendously. We appreciate you and your business and want to ensure that the registration process runs smoothly. Thank you in advance for your extra time in ensuring that all work is correct, complete, and received in a timely manner.

REGISTRATIONS: The AMAA will assess a $5 fee for any registration work received by fax, e-mail, or mail. To avoid this fee, please log into your online Digital Beef account to complete all registration work. New forms can be downloaded from our main webpage under Digital Beef/ Registrations—Printable Forms. If you need assistance logging into your online account, please contact us at maine@amaapc.com. If work is faxed or e-mailed, it is the breeder’s responsibility to give us a follow-up phone call to ensure that the work is legible and to cover all fees. BLOCK REGISTRATION DISCOUNTS: Want to save on registration costs? Consider pre-paying for a block of registrations. The cost savings are as follows: • 15 head - 12% • 25 head - 15% • 50 head - 20% • 75 head - 25% • 100 head - 30% Blocks may only be used on animals under 13 months of age, not on steers or foundation animals. They are valid from January 1 to December 31 of each year. Any unused block registration numbers will expire. Block purchases must be pre-paid prior to registration. If you want to purchase a block, please get in touch with us at 816-431-9950 Ext. 2. FOUNDATION ANIMALS: Non-registered bulls and females must be entered as foundation animals prior to progeny being registered. All current “P” (performance

only) cattle will be grandfathered into the program. If the sire is an AI sire and registered at another breed association, the pedigree and testing must be on file with the AMAA. Adding a sire pedigree will be a one-time charge of $40. If the AMAA finds that another breeder has already paid for the pedigree, the $40 charge will not be applied. Dams registered at another breed association may also be added for a one-time charge of $25. See the new self-billing sheet for foundation fees.

ONLINE TRANSFERS: When transferring an animal online, ensure there is no member number already created for the buyer. Creating more than one number for an individual creates registration problems later. If you find the buyer in the system at a different address, please notify the buyer first to confirm the address and then notify the AMAA office to update the account. It is always a good idea to search for the buyer using the search tool before doing the work; that way, if they have a different address, it is caught before entering the registration and transfer. When creating a new profile for a buyer, please never give a junior a farm name. Please enter the junior’s name on the farm line and also as the contact. RUSH ORDERS: If you are selling an animal, please register and transfer it in a timely manner to avoid extra charges and assure buyers they are purchasing from a reputable businessperson. Rush work will be done in the order received; a rush fee is currently $50 (covers eight heads). No work will be released until payment is complete. Rush work is processed ahead of the regular work received in our office and mailed by regular mail within one to two business days. We will do our best to complete the rush work received in our office by 2 p.m. (Monday through Friday). There is no same-day turnaround. If the work requires a registration number only, it will still be considered a rush as we still have to

process the work to obtain the number. BULL CALF REGISTRATION: If registering a bull calf born after Jan. 1, 2014, it must be TH/PHA free by parentage or have testing completed before registering and on file with the AMAA. Carriers will no longer be registered but may be entered as foundation animals. All progeny out of a Foundation carrier bull must be tested free of that defect before registration. The animal will not be registered if registrations are submitted before testing has been completed. Instead, the animal will be given a performance number. Once the animal has been tested, the registration will be completed at the regular rate based on the animal’s age at the time the test is completed. Once the animal has been tested, the registration may be completed at the regular rate. Please plan accordingly, as testing can take up to three or four weeks. MAINE ANGUS PAPERS: Digital Beef will automatically convert cow/ heifer registrations to Maine Angus if they qualify. The registrar will review all Maine-Angus bulls applied for before converting to Maine-Angus. A Maine Angus paper will be blue, with Maine Angus under the Maine logo and MaineTainer across the center of the paper. The animal can be shown as a MaineTainer if no Maine Angus division is at the show. MAINE ANGUS REQUIREMENTS Maine Angus refers to cattle with the following characteristics: • The animal will have between 3/8 MaineAnjou to 5/8 Maine-Anjou blood and have between 3/8 registered Angus to 5/8 registered Angus and/or registered Red Angus blood. • The standard is that both parents must be registered at the AMAA, American Angus Association (AAA), or Red Angus Association of America (RAAA), which will provide validated lineage. AUGUST/SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER 2026 73

MAINE-ANJOU Announcements, News & Events

• Qualifying cattle can have no more than 1/8 of non-registered blood or other breeds. • A registered Maine Angus bull must be proven free of genetic defects PHA and TH. Depending on the Maine Angus bull’s genetic makeup, the individual must also be proven free of known Angus lethal genetic defects (Ex. AM, NH, and CA) and/or known lethal Red Angus genetic defects (Ex. AM, NH, CA and OS) whether determined by pedigree or test. • A registered Maine Angus female must be proven free of PHA and TH, whether identified by pedigree or test. MAINE ANGUS COLOR REQUIREMENTS: All qualifying individuals will be predominately solid black or red in color. White markings are only allowed on the underline and switch of the tail. Starting Jan. 1, 2019, all animals that have qualified and registered as Maine Angus before Jan. 1, 2019, will retain their Maine Angus papers but cannot exhibit/show in the Maine Angus division. However, these animals are eligible to show as MaineTainers. OTHER AMAA UPDATES: Please update any change in address, phone numbers, or e-mails with the AMAA by e-mailing us at maine@amaapc.com or logging into your online account. If you have a credit card on file and have received a new card, please make sure to call us to replace the new card on file. Credit cards are not automatically saved when paying online. MAINE-ANJOU CATTLE FOR SALE: Are you looking for cattle to purchase or consign? Do not forget to check out our consignment sale list at the top of the Digital Beef Cattle search screen called “Maine-Anjou Cattle for Sale.” Active breeders may use this tool to consign animals if they have a login for Digital Beef. DNA REMINDERS

The normal Neogen lab turnaround time is approximately 3 – 4 weeks. Turnaround times are longer for multiple tests on one sample. Turnaround times may also be extended on hair samples as it is more labor intensive to process the sample. We encourage you to submit samples as quickly as you can in order to avoid testing and registration delays. - NEW – All samples turned in on a hair card will be charged an additional $5 per sample. - NEW – All samples that must be pulled from inventory will be charged an additional $5 per sample for the sample pull fee. - AMAA will accept blood cards, tissue sampling units (TSU), semen straws or hair cards. - All A.I. sires regardless of breed and/or commercial, must have DNA, AM, CA, NH, DD, DS, TH and PHA results on file prior to registering any progeny. - All donor dams regardless of breed and or commercial, must have DNA, AM, CA, NH, DD, DS, TH and PHA results on file prior to registering any progeny. If a donor is deceased before a sample was procured, you must complete all the tests listed above on the ET calves in order to register them.

REGION 1 CANDIDATE NAME:

CHAD BARKER, MISSOURI HISTORY OF YOUR OPERATION/FAMILY AND INVOLVEMENT WITH THE MAINEANJOU BREED. My love for the beef business started at a young age working on our family’s hog, show cattle and crop farm in Northeast Indiana. I always felt fortunate to have the opportunity to show and sell steers all over the country throughout my 4-H youth years. For the last 21 years my wife, Christi, and I have owned and operated C4 Barker Show Cattle, along with our kids Collin and Cassidy. Today we have about 30 predominately Maine-Anjou cows, consisting mostly of the cattle our kids have shown as junior members. WHAT DO YOU VIEW AS THE STRENGTHS OF THE MAINE-ANJOU BREED AND HOW CAN THOSE STRENGTHS BEST BE USED IN TODAY’S BEEF INDUSTRY? The strength of the Mane-Anjou breed is the people who breed, raise and promote Maine-Anjou cattle. There are good cattle in every breed, but I firmly believe the people make the difference and will continue to in the future as they adapt and adjust to changing market signals. WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS FOR THE FUTURE OF THE MAINE-ANJOU BREED? We have and will continue to support the relatively new Maine Angus program. Our daughter, Cassidy, participated in the first ever Maine Angus junior show in Hutchison, Kan. There was six head in that year’s show. It has definitely grown and I hope to see it continue to grow. I also think red meat yield and improved average daily gain deserve special attention and are critically important to the breeds further success.

WHAT DOES YOUR PRESENT OPERATION DO TO PROMOTE MAINE-ANJOU GENETICS, WHETHER IT BE LOCALLY, STATE, REGIONAL OR NATIONAL? We will continue to raise, show and sell Maine-Anjou cattle all over the country at every level. Selling Maine-Anjou bulls at Cattlemen’s and or the National Western is something we look forward to every year. For almost 30 years I have made my living buying and/or selling fed cattle on a local, state and now national level and understand the value of Maine-Anjou genetics. ADDITIONAL COMMENTS It has been my privilege and pleasure to serve the Maine-Anjou board for the past three years. I truly enjoyed working with our outstanding staff and fellow board members of the AMAA. I am proud of what our breed has accomplished, and I am excited about the path we are on. I believe I can do more and would like the opportunity work with the good people of the MaineAnjou breed as a Region 1 board member.

REGION 2 CANDIDATE NAME:

TARA THORSON, MINNESOTA HISTORY OF YOUR OPERATION/FAMILY AND INVOLVEMENT WITH THE MAINEANJOU BREED. My family has been in the Maine-Anjou breed since I was very young. We started with both my younger sister and I showing Maine-Anjou heifers and steers, but over the last several years, we have gotten more into the breeding side of our herd to expand our operation by selling show calves and bulls. Still, we make sure we emphasize producing the type of cows/heifers and bulls we hope represent this breed in the best way.

WHAT DO YOU VIEW AS THE STRENGTHS OF THE MAINE-ANJOU BREED AND HOW CAN THOSE STRENGTHS BEST BE USED IN TODAY’S BEEF INDUSTRY? I think some of our greatest strengths are the versatility and the people the Maine-Anjou breed offers to the industry. The Maine breed has as many as three representatives at any given junior or open show grand drive, and each of those representatives shows a different positive trait of our breed. This is a great way to show how we as a breed can have all these different types but still have functional cattle as a result, no matter how they land percentage-wise. This also translates to our beef industry today because with the Maine breed, they have so many options for different genetics or phenotypes that there is something for everyone. Our people are our other greatest strength; we are fortunate to have a very welcoming breed, and that is due to the people who are inviting others to show at junior nationals, or are selling Maine-Anjou cattle, or even just talking to others about our breed. We are growing every year but remaining a breed where newcomers feel welcome, and that brings more people into the beef industry, which is ultimately the end goal. WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS FOR THE FUTURE OF THE MAINE-ANJOU BREED? My goal for the future of the Maine-Anjou breed is to help preserve the qualities that have made it successful while continuing to support its growth by supporting younger breeders, promoting the breed through education and marketing, and encouraging collaboration among breeders. WHAT DOES YOUR PRESENT OPERATION DO TO PROMOTE MAINE-ANJOU GENETICS, WHETHER IT BE LOCALLY, STATE, REGIONAL OR NATIONAL? One thing my family has done over the last several years is lease Maine-Anjou heifers to kids in the counties surrounding ours, or in our county. Then, when it comes time for that heifer to calve, we give them the calf and mentor them on raising it and showing the animal. This way they have a AUGUST/SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER 2026 87

calf to start their herd, which will hopefully make them want to keep showing Maines. We also volunteer to help take them to the Junior National so that they can experience the family-like feel that the Maine-Anjou association gives at a National show, and they also meet more people in the breed and learn more about opportunities within Maine-Anjou. We have also been selling bulls on the Bright Lights sale for the last few years, as well as selling bulls privately to other producers. ADDITIONAL COMMENTS I truly love the Maine-Anjou breed and would be grateful for another opportunity to be a part of the Board of Directors. It has been an eye-opening experience, and I can’t wait to see what the potential next few years bring for the breed! CANDIDATE NAME:

ALICIA RIGDON, IOWA HISTORY OF YOUR OPERATION/FAMILY AND INVOLVEMENT WITH THE MAINEANJOU BREED. Our operation has deep roots in the Maine-Anjou breed, built on generations of hard work, family involvement, and a shared passion for raising quality Maine cattle since 1991. I own Bar R Cattle Company with my son, and we run about 75 cow-calf pairs. Over the years, we’ve focused on developing functional, dependable genetics that work for both show families and commercial producers. The Maine-Anjou breed has played a central role in shaping our program, and we continue to build on that foundation with a commitment to consistency, structure, and strong maternal traits. I work as a lawyer for a technology company. WHAT DO YOU VIEW AS THE STRENGTHS OF THE MAINE-ANJOU BREED AND HOW CAN THOSE STRENGTHS BEST BE USED IN TODAY’S BEEF INDUSTRY? Maine-Anjou cattle bring a unique combination of power and performance, structural soundness, and eye appeal. Their ability to add muscle, improve phenotype, AUGUST/SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER 2026 88

and maintain maternal quality makes them valuable in both purebred and crossbred programs. In today’s beef industry—where efficiency, carcass merit, and consumer satisfaction matter more than ever—MaineAnjou genetics offer versatility and realworld value. Their strengths can be used to enhance hybrid vigor, improve feedlot performance, and produce cattle that meet modern market demands. WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS FOR THE FUTURE OF THE MAINE-ANJOU BREED? My goals center on growth, consistency, and opportunity. I want to continue strengthening junior involvement, expanding educational resources, and supporting breeders at every level. I believe we can increase visibility of Maine-Anjou genetics in commercial sectors while maintaining the breed’s strong presence in the show industry. Long-term, I hope to see continued collaboration among breeders, more regional outreach, and a unified effort to promote the breed’s strengths nationwide. WHAT DOES YOUR PRESENT OPERATION DO TO PROMOTE MAINE-ANJOU GENETICS, WHETHER IT BE LOCALLY, STATE, REGIONAL OR NATIONAL? We promote Maine-Anjou genetics through consistent involvement in shows, sales, and regional events. I currently serve as the superintendent of the Open Maine-Anjou show of the Iowa State fair and for the NILE Maine-Anjou show in Billings, Montana and help those shows run efficiently for our breeders. Our operation works closely with junior exhibitors, helping them select and develop cattle that represent the breed well and provide scholarships at the National Junior show. We also participate in state and regional association activities, support educational clinics, and collaborate with fellow breeders to showcase high-quality Maine-Anjou cattle. Whether it’s mentoring youth, consigning to sales, or simply being present and engaged, we strive to be strong advocates for the breed.

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS I truly love the Maine-Anjou breed and would be grateful for another opportunity to be a part of the Board of Directors. It has been an eye opening experience and I can’t wait to see what the potential next few years bring for the breed! CANDIDATE NAME:

CHUCK RINGKOB, SOUTH DAKOTA HISTORY OF YOUR OPERATION/FAMILY AND INVOLVEMENT WITH THE MAINEANJOU BREED. In 2005, we partnered with my in-laws, the Pearson Family, on the purchase of several bred Maine-Anjou females. That joint venture resulted in the creation of PAR Five Cattle Co. From that small beginning, we have grown the operation, and in 2012 we moved to Lake City, SD, went to work full time on the ranch, and have grown our operation to a 225 cow herd consisting primarily of Maine Anjou, MaineTainer and Maine Angus with the a few unregistered cows used primarily as recip cows. We market our show females and a few steers in an October online sale. We have consigned bulls to the Bright Lights sale when it was in Denver and now OKC. We also sell a number of private treaty bulls and participate in state consignment sales. Our family has participated in numerous Maine-Anjou Jr Nationals, State Fairs, and jackpot shows and has raised and sold cattle that have been successful at local, state, and national levels. Over the last 20 years, we have built a solid, versatile cow herd and embrace the future of MaineAnjou. WHAT DO YOU VIEW AS THE STRENGTHS OF THE MAINE-ANJOU BREED AND HOW CAN THOSE STRENGTHS BEST BE USED IN TODAY’S BEEF INDUSTRY? We seem to be in an unprecedented time in the cattle business right now. Every segment of the cattle business has seen sustained high prices in much of the country, and the cowherd continues to be the lowest since the 1950s, and finished

weights of fed cattle are at a near all-time high. I feel Maine-Anjou cattle are poised for growth as we continue to produce cattle that are able to meet the maternal challenges of today’s cow herd but produce steers and heifers that carry the increased carcass weights demanded in today’s cattle industry. As a breed, we need to find ways to expand in popularity in the seedstock and commercial segments of the industry and create the same kind of growth we have seen in our junior show program. WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS FOR THE FUTURE OF THE MAINE-ANJOU BREED? I believe strongly that growth should be our primary goal for the future. As a smaller breed, I really believe Maine-Anjou cattle are the best-kept secret in the cattle business. We have a diverse population of Maine-Anjou cattle and breeders that can produce cattle that not only lead in the show ring but also excel in many of the crossbreeding programs of today’s progressive cattle operations. The biggest challenge we face is getting our message out in the clutter of today’s media and social media. As breeders, we should all be looking to increase our presence in the industry from commercial feeder cattle to our Jr Show program. Now is the time for us all to be focused on growth. WHAT DOES YOUR PRESENT OPERATION DO TO PROMOTE MAINE-ANJOU GENETICS, WHETHER IT BE LOCALLY, STATE, REGIONAL OR NATIONAL? I believe in being a Maine-Anjou advocate at every event we attend and like to participate in as many events as possible. From the local county fairs, regional consignment shows and sales to the junior and open shows at our state fair, we have sought to showcase the MaineAnjou cattle we produce. We maintain a presence for our operation and the MaineAnjou breed on social media as another way to recruit new customers. In our rural community of Northeast South Dakota, I have worked to create a market for Maine-Anjou Bulls for the local

rancher. This has been a progression that started with selling Maine-Anjou heifers and steers to local families to use in their own breeding and show cattle herds. By working with these individuals, I demonstrated first-hand how versatile and progressive raising, showing, and utilizing Maine-Anjou cattle is. After selling a few heifers or steers, these families have been eager to build their own herd by acquiring their own bulls to start producing. We also had the opportunity to partner with the AMAA in two research programs put together by Josh Cribbs, including providing cattle for the feeding and carcass data trial with Zachary Smith of SDSU several years ago, and most recently participated in the Maternal Cow Imaging trial done with Texas Tech. Research programs like these often prove what we as breeders already know, that the MaineAnjou cattle we raise are versatile and have much to offer today’s beef cattle industry. ADDITIONAL COMMENTS We have seen impressive expansion in our Junior National show in recent years, and we need to capitalize on this increased popularity throughout the remainder of the cattle industry. This growth has clearly increased our visibility in part of the cattle industry. As breeders, we all need to seek ways to capitalize on this increased popularity to share our story on what Maine-Anjou cattle can offer all segments of the beef industry. I am confident MaineAnjou cattle are poised for growth as we continue to produce cattle that can meet the maternal challenges of today’s cow herd and produce steers and heifers that carry the increased carcass weights of today’s cattle industry. Now is the time to capitalize on what makes Maine-Anjou what it is. Maine cattle can meet and exceed the industry’s expectations when it comes to carcass quality, especially when taking cattle to heavier harvest weights. It is never easy, but if we want to grow, we have to take market share from our other continental cattle competitors,

REGION3 CANDIDATE NAME:

DUSTIN DORSEY, COLORADO HISTORY OF YOUR OPERATION/FAMILY AND INVOLVEMENT WITH THE MAINEANJOU BREED. I own and operate Dunn-Rite Cattle Company along with my wife, Kim, and daughter, Taylor. My passion for the breed began at a young age as I grew up showing Maine-Anjou cattle all over the nation, and over the years that passion continued to grow. I had the opportunity to work with Larry Lind, who was one of the biggest Maine-Anjou breeders and influences at the time. I was able to see the impact he made by being one of the first breeders to import black Maine-Anjou semen into the United States and see the effect it had on the breed. I also had the honor of being named the first Maine-Anjou Herdsman back in the day. My family has a very deeprooted passion for the breed and continues to make it the focus of our operation. Our operation has continued to grow over the years, and we now host an annual sale in September. For the past two years, I’ve had the privilege of serving on the Maine-Anjou Board, giving back to an organization that has meant so much to my family, and I hope to continue serving the breed and its members for years to come. WHAT DO YOU VIEW AS STRENGTHS OF THE MAINE-ANJOU BREED AND HOW CAN THOSE STRENGTHS BE USED IN TODAY’S BEEF INDUSTRY? I believe the strength of the breed lies in its ability to deliver real-world value while also being a dominant force in the show cattle industry. The diverse genetic advantages of our breed, combined with added performance traits, make MaineAnjou cattle an exceptional cross. They consistently add extra muscle, stoutness, and pounds to calves at weaning, all while maintaining impeccable eye appeal. The breed also continues to produce outstanding purebred and high percentage AUGUST/SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER 2026 89

registered cattle for seedstock producers. In the show cattle industry, Maine-Anjou cattle continue to grow in presence, winning supreme titles at the national level. Their soundness, along with their ability to carry added muscle and bone while still commanding showring presence, is unmatched. A true testament to this growth is the bred and owned show at Junior Nationals, where the increase in quality, along with the sheer number of young juniors already committed to raising MaineAnjou cattle, speaks for itself. WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS FOR THE FUTURE OF THE MAINE-ANJOU BREED? My goal for the breed is to see it continue to grow and to see young members actively engaged in the association. I believe one of the best ways to grow and improve a breed is to invest in its youth, helping develop them into the future leaders and breeders of the industry. I want to continue supporting the junior association and the young members who make up its programs. Another important goal is to keep promoting and building superior genetics that benefit both commercial and seedstock producers. By continuing to find innovative ways to promote the breed and prove its strengths, I hope to help make Maine-Anjou a household name and a staple in operations everywhere. WHAT DOES YOUR PRESENT OPERATION DO TO PROMOTE MAINE-ANJOU GENETICS, WHETHER IT BE LOCALLY, STATE, REGIONAL OR NATIONAL? My family promotes the Maine-Anjou breed by continuing to make it the staple of our operation and by promoting MaineAnjou genetics at national shows across the US. Even though my daughter is no longer a junior, we continue to be involved and show in open shows to be able to support the breed. We have been involved in the Maine-Anjou sales that take place at Cattlemen’s Congress and the National Western Stock Show (NWSS), where we have sold bulls and heifers. This last year, at the 2023 NWSS, we had Champion Maine-Anjou Pen of Three Bulls. The ability AUGUST/SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER 2026 90

to network and talk with individuals in the Yards is something we truly look forward to doing every year. Dunn-Rite Cattle also hosts an annual sale every September where we continue to promote MaineAnjou genetics and continue to try to produce the best females and bulls we can to represent the breed to the best of our ability. ADDITIONAL COMMENTS The Maine-Anjou breed has been such an important influence in my life, and many of those within the industry have been true mentors. I would love the opportunity to give back to the breed that has given me so much. CANDIDATE NAME:

MATTHEW DEAN

HISTORY OF YOUR OPERATION/FAMILY AND INVOLVEMENT WITH THE MAINEANJOU BREED. Dean Cattle Company, located in Bellville, Texas, has been raising Maine and Maineinfluenced cattle for over 25 years. Initially, my dad and I were raising cattle, but now, with my wife Kristin and our daughter Kenzie, we continue this legacy. While the last few years have seen a focus on show steers, we remain committed to our core breed, Maine-Anjou-influenced cattle, which make up the majority of our herd. WHAT DO YOU VIEW AS THE STRENGTHS OF THE MAINE-ANJOU BREED AND HOW CAN THOSE STRENGTHS BEST BE USED IN TODAY’S BEEF INDUSTRY? The Maine-Anjou breed’s remarkable versatility has become an invaluable asset to the beef industry. Over the years, it has evolved from being primarily valued for its carcass quality to becoming a breed that meets the industry’s functional demands in our females while simultaneously enabling our male progeny to excel in practical applications with superior carcass characteristics.

WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS FOR THE FUTURE OF THE MAINE-ANJOU BREED? My specific goal in this region would be to raise public awareness about the breed’s evolution into a versatile breed, rather than just a show breed without a place in the commercial market. WHAT DOES YOUR PRESENT OPERATION DO TO PROMOTE MAINE-ANJOU GENETICS, WHETHER IT BE LOCALLY, STATE, REGIONAL OR NATIONAL? Currently, while we sell cattle to commercial raisers in our area and allow the cattle to promote themselves, we also dedicate a significant amount of time to working with youth and their heifer projects for show. ADDITIONAL COMMENTS The Maine-Anjou breed has been a part of my life since I was introduced to them at the age of 10. As a young person, I thoroughly enjoyed showing them, and in my adulthood, I raised them myself. Now that my daughter has taken up showing, I feel truly blessed to be experiencing the full circle of this wonderful breed. CANDIDATE NAME:

TERRY LOCKHART, OKLAHOMA HISTORY OF YOUR OPERATION/FAMILY AND INVOLVEMENT WITH THE MAINEANJOU BREED. We have been breeding Maine-Anjou cattle since 1992, with me personally starting as a junior exhibitor with Maine heifers we imported from Canada. We have been building our Maine-Anjou genetics by way of elite show heifer prospects that are then moved to our donor program. I personally served on the Junior Board of Directors as President and Advisor, along with my children Parker and Kennedy Lockhart, both serving on the Junior Board of Directors, with Parker as the President this past year. Maine-Anjou cattle have been the lifeblood of our operation here at PKL Show Cattle, selling over 50 show prospects annually and hosting our annual SOUTHERN Integrity Sale in December.

While we take pride in our breeding program, our passion has always been producing cattle for the showring and the junior program. WHAT DO YOU VIEW AS STRENGTHS OF THE MAINE-ANJOU BREED AND HOW CAN THOSE STRENGTHS BE USED IN TODAY’S BEEF INDUSTRY? While the Maine-Anjou breed is most notable for its success in the showring due to its eye appeal, mass, and dimension, while remaining structurally sound and maternalistic, the Maine-Anjou breed is extremely profitable when used in a crossbred scenario. The tremendous value they bring to the feedlot cattle with their performance and muscle, and in the commercial operation with their strong performance converting to stronger-thanaverage weaning weights. WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS FOR THE FUTURE OF THE MAINE-ANJOU BREED? My main goal for the Maine-Anjou breed as a board member would be to keep the same trajectory for the breed as we currently have, as we are moving in the right direction and at a high rate of speed. The Maine breed is so versatile with the showring and the junior program and then incorporated into the commercial cow-calf production; the success and excitement is as high as it has ever been. With that said, there is always room for new, fresh ideas and perspective, and I believe I can offer that to the association not only from a breeder’s vision, but from a financial analysis perspective as well. WHAT DOES YOUR PRESENT OPERATION DO TO PROMOTE MAINE-ANJOU GENETICS, WHETHER IT BE LOCALLY, STATE, REGIONAL OR NATIONAL LEVEL? Promoting Maine-Anjou genetics and cattle has always been the lifeline for PKL Show Cattle. We have exhibited Maine cattle at all National Shows over the past 15+ years, and throughout this time we have acquired various AI promotional MaineAnjou bulls and some elite donors. This has enabled our operation to raise and sell numerous show prospects that have been successfully exhibited in many states

and at the National shows. Our operation believes the lifeline to the Maine-Anjou breed is through our junior exhibitors and programs, so focusing on producing and selling show prospects has and will continue to be our passion at PKL Show Cattle. ADDITIONAL COMMENTS The Maine breed is blessed with an amazing staff full of excellent leadership and a current Board of Directors that has a very specific and unified vision. Being a part of this organization and team has been a goal of mine for many years, and it would be a privilege to serve our Maine breeders and my friends at the highest level.

AT-LARGE CANDIDATE NAME:

BRENT TOLLE, KENTUCKY HISTORY OF YOUR OPERATION/FAMILY AND INVOLVEMENT WITH THE MAINEANJOU BREED. Raised in northeastern Kentucky near the Ohio River, I have been breeding and showing Maine-Anjou cattle since 1987. I went to college at Western Kentucky University, where I continued to help and show cattle across the United States after college and settling back at the family farm. We have dedicated our program to producing Maine-Anjou breeding stock through stud bulls such as Daddy’s Money, Data Bank, End Game, and Moonshine, to name a few. We also strive to produce Maine-Anjou-influenced bred heifers for the club calf market and top breeding operations across the country, with Bred Heifers offered yearly at the Holiday Classic sale in Ohio. WHAT DO YOU VIEW AS STRENGTHS OF THE MAINE-ANJOU BREED AND HOW CAN THOSE STRENGTHS BE USED IN TODAY’S BEEF INDUSTRY? The Maine-Anjou breed has several strengths, one being red meat yield (Muscle) and added weight per weaned calf for commercial producers; however,

I acknowledge we are known as a SHOW CATTLE breed, and I accept that and embrace this, as Maine-Anjou cattle cross well and maintain a maternal base for the club calf industry to survive and thrive with some predictability. The true strength of the breed, however, is the LEADERSHIP and office staff as well as the membership. Maine-Anjou is an all-inclusive breed organization from the hardcore show cattle family, to the beginner, to the club calf breeder, and to the commercial cow calf/stocker operator. The American Junior Maine-Anjou Association is second to no one and is the focus of the Breed and future. WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS FOR THE FUTURE OF THE MAINE-ANJOU BREED? I see a bright future as the breed continues to evolve and become more and more accepted as a crossbreeding alternative for commercial producers to increase weaning weights, add muscle, and yield a better carcass than other more popular breeds in the industry. I also see the Maine-Anjou Jr association setting the standard for young kids and families looking for an all-inclusive breed organization that gives young people a stage to promote themselves as well as their livestock to industry leaders and prepare for a future in the industry. WHAT DOES YOUR PRESENT OPERATION DO TO PROMOTE MAINE-ANJOU GENETICS, WHETHER IT BE LOCALLY, STATE, REGIONAL OR NATIONAL LEVEL? At Tolle Show Cattle, we offer semen from our bulls to the open market as well as a select group of Show heifers and steers that are available by private treaty. We have been part of the Holiday Classic sale in Ohio for over 25 years, where we offer our top-bred heifers and select embryo matings to the public. I also fully support the Maine-Anjou Jr organization on all levels. ADDITIONAL COMMENTS It is an honor and a privilege to be considered for your vote to lead the HOTTEST, most versatile breed in the industry and grow our junior program to AUGUST/SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER 2026 91

be the largest, most admired program for young leaders in the industry. Thank you for your consideration. CANDIDATE NAME:

DJ FOLKERTS, MINNESOTA HISTORY OF MY OPERATION AND FAMILY INVOLVEMENT WITH THE MAINE-ANJOU BREED. I started Eastview Maines in the late 1990s after purchasing a few Maine-Anjou females and a pair of black Maine bulls to build my purebred herd. From there, I began raising and selling purebred bulls, and over the years, our herd has grown and evolved. Today, we promote the MaineAnjou breed by selling bulls and hosting an elite female sale each fall. In addition to seedstock, my feeder cattle are marketed to a cattle feeder who collects growth and carcass data. This feedback allows me to select genetics that not only work for seedstock but also perform in the feedlot. My wife, Amy, and I are raising four children—Kendra, Rylee, Maesa, and Charlie. The kids love showing cattle and enjoy 4-H quiz bowls and livestock judging contests. Attending the Maine-Anjou Junior Nationals each summer is always a highlight of our show season! WHAT DO YOU VIEW AS STRENGTHS OF THE MAINE-ANJOU BREED AND HOW CAN THOSE STRENGTHS BE USED IN TODAY’S BEEF INDUSTRY? I believe the Maine-Anjou breed is still a “hidden secret” in the cattle industry. Maine-influenced females are tremendous producers in any setting, whether in a commercial cow herd or a seedstock operation. When it comes to the feedlot and the rail, Maine-influenced feeder cattle get the job done. This is an area I believe we need to continue expanding into, getting more Maine genetics into the heart of commercial herds. Maine bulls are the backbone of this effort, helping produce high-quality cattle that excel in every sector of the beef industry. AUGUST/SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER 2026 92

WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS FOR THE FUTURE OF THE MAINE-ANJOU BREED? A couple of my goals for the breed include expanding the footprint of MaineAnjou bulls in the commercial sector and gathering more information and performance data from commercial herds marketing Maine-influenced calves— whether they’re selling to feedlots or on the rail. Another priority is continuing to encourage and support our younger breeders, helping them grow within the breed and, most importantly, retaining them as future breeders. Our junior program is outstanding, and the more juniors we can transition into lifelong Maine-Anjou breeders, the brighter the future will be for our entire organization. WHAT DOES YOUR PRESENT OPERATION DO TO PROMOTE MAINE-ANJOU GENETICS, WHETHER IT BE LOCALLY, STATE, REGIONAL OR NATIONAL LEVEL? We market Maine-Anjou genetics at the National Western Stock Show in Denver, the Black Hills Stock Show in Rapid City, and the Watertown Farm Show in South Dakota. We also sell bulls private treaty off the farm and host a select female sale in the fall, offering elite heifer calves and bred heifers. I serve as Secretary/Treasurer of the South Dakota Maine-Anjou Association and proudly support youth and promotion efforts, including donating to Maine show classes at the Minnesota Beef Expo. ADDITIONAL COMMENTS I’ve been raising Maine-Anjou cattle for over 20 years, and it’s truly my passion. Our focus has always been on producing highpercentage bulls and females—our bread and butter. I enjoy working alongside fellow Maine breeders and customers because the people in the cattle industry are truly the best in the world. family’s looking for an all inclusive breed organization that gives young people a stage to promote themselves as well as their livestock to industry leaders and prepare for a future in the industry.

CANDIDATE NAME:

CODY TEBBENKAMP, MISSOURI HISTORY OF MY OPERATION AND FAMILY INVOLVEMENT WITH THE MAINE-ANJOU BREED. The history of my operation starts, as many do, with the first Maine-Anjou cattle purchased for a 4-H project in 1993. From that point, Maine-Anjou cattle have been the primary breed of choice for my operation, which has focused on raising and selling show cattle and replacement females and bulls. WHAT DO YOU VIEW AS STRENGTHS OF THE MAINE-ANJOU BREED AND HOW CAN THOSE STRENGTHS BE USED IN TODAY’S BEEF INDUSTRY? The Maine-Anjou breed has many strengths, but a couple I will focus on are, first, their adaptability. Maine-Anjou cattle are a perfect choice if you want to raise high-quality show heifers and steers and have a show-oriented program. If you choose to raise cattle to put in the feedlot that are feed efficient and sell high-quality cattle that grade out on the rail, using Maines in that breeding scenario is a great option. The cattle themselves are very adaptable to any type of environment across the country, making them a great choice for producers to utilize in their cattle operations. Another strength of the breed is its people. The Maine-Anjou breed has a great membership with an extremely strong junior program that is second to none in the cattle industry. WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS FOR THE FUTURE OF THE MAINE-ANJOU BREED? Continue to help the Junior program grow and expand, and continue the momentum the breed has created over the past few years. I think another goal would be to continue to help the breed continue to get acceptance in the commercial sector, whether that be through the bulls, feed efficiency trials, etc. The breed’s future is very bright, and we need to continue to work in multiple facets of the industry to achieve these goals.

WHAT DOES YOUR PRESENT OPERATION DO TO PROMOTE MAINE-ANJOU GENETICS, WHETHER IT BE LOCALLY, STATE, REGIONAL OR NATIONAL LEVEL? The way my operation promotes MaineAnjou cattle is by selling heifers and steers to juniors to exhibit in the ring, either through private treaty sales or entries in online sales, typically at the state fair and some national shows, and the bulls I buy for my own operations come from different national breed sales. ADDITIONAL COMMENTS If elected, I look forward to working with the staff and other board members to continue to move the Maine-Anjou breed forward and to continue the positive momentum the Maine-Anjou breed has generated in the cattle industry. CANDIDATE NAME:

MALLORY BORMANN-LISS, IOWA HISTORY OF MY OPERATION AND FAMILY INVOLVEMENT WITH THE MAINE-ANJOU BREED. I was raised on a livestock farm in northern Iowa, where my passion for agriculture began at an early age. As an active 4-H and FFA member, I developed a strong foundation in the livestock industry before attending Iowa State University, where I earned a bachelor’s degree in Animal Science and Livestock Management. In 2005, while running a small commercial operation, I purchased my first Maine-Anjou show heifer for my very first 4-H project. That one red Maine-Anjou female sparked a lifelong passion for the breed. Since then, I have remained committed to Maine-Anjou cattle, and today my husband, Garrett, our two sons, Winslow and Bridger, and I own and operate Bormann//Liss Livestock. Our operation focuses on producing maternal Maine-Anjou females and bulls. We run approximately 100 registered Maine-Anjou cows, with a strong emphasis on artificial insemination and embryo transfer. I have been fortunate to exhibit Maine-Anjou cattle at the national level as both a junior and an adult exhibitor.

From the beginning, my family made the decision to invest in the Maine-Anjou breed, and that commitment has allowed us to continually improve our herd by investing in quality bulls and females. Looking ahead, we plan to continue adding elite genetics to our program as we build a strong foundation for the future and for our two sons to carry on. WHAT DO YOU VIEW AS STRENGTHS OF THE MAINE-ANJOU BREED AND HOW CAN THOSE STRENGTHS BE USED IN TODAY’S BEEF INDUSTRY? I believe the Maine-Anjou breed has many strengths and can bring tremendous value to a wide variety of operations. In our program, we strive to maintain efficient, moderate-framed cows that are functional, productive, and built to last. The docility of our cattle has also been an important trait that has kept us committed to breeding and expanding our Maine-Anjou herd. While Maine-Anjou cattle have continued to be highly competitive in the showring, we also recognize and appreciate the breed’s strong maternal traits and its ability to produce high-quality beef. Maine-Anjou cattle can excel in seedstock programs while also bringing value to commercial operations focused on beef production For those of us raising show cattle and producing seedstock bulls, the MaineAnjou breed truly offers the best of both worlds — cattle that can compete at the highest levels while still maintaining the functional, maternal, and production traits needed for long-term success. WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS FOR THE FUTURE OF THE MAINE-ANJOU BREED? Our goals for the future of the Bormann/ Liss operation and the Maine-Anjou breed within our herd are centered around longevity, functionality, and continuing to produce high-quality Maine-Anjou females and bulls. We are committed to building a strong foundation of cattle that will continue to provide value for generations to come. As a family, we are also passionate about promoting the bred-and-owned shows at Junior Nationals. We feel strongly that these opportunities allow young breeders

to develop their own programs, grow their confidence, and showcase the genetics they have worked hard to produce in their own divisions. We believe these programs are vital to the future strength of the Maine-Anjou breed, providing opportunities for junior members and adult breeders alike to expand their herds, invest in quality genetics, and continue building the future of the breed. WHAT DOES YOUR PRESENT OPERATION DO TO PROMOTE MAINE-ANJOU GENETICS, WHETHER IT BE LOCALLY, STATE, REGIONAL OR NATIONAL LEVEL? From a young age, I have had the opportunity to exhibit Maine-Anjou cattle at the county, state, and national levels. Today, my family and I continue to be actively involved in the breed through our Bormann//Liss operation, where we offer Maine-Anjou females through our fall sale and Maine-Anjou bulls through our spring bull sale. The females we have sold have gone on to achieve success at local, state, and national shows, which is something we take great pride in. As a family, we have been fortunate to exhibit numerous national champions and continue to compete at the highest levels through open shows. We take tremendous pride in the bulls we have raised, as well as the bulls we have purchased and successfully exhibited. Our program has been honored to receive Show Bull of the Year recognition in 2022 and 2024, along with many other accomplishments along the way. As breeders, we believe it is important to continue exhibiting at open shows to promote our genetics, market our program, and provide opportunities for others to utilize our bulls through semen sales and genetic offerings throughout the year. I also have the privilege of serving on the Iowa Maine-Anjou Association Board, where I am passionate about increasing junior membership opportunities in Iowa and helping grow participation and enthusiasm within the open show sector.

AUGUST/SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER 2026 93

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS The Maine-Anjou junior program, along with being an adult member, has really shaped our family today. As a younger adult member applying for the at-large position on the national board, I feel I can bring new ideas to the group while learning from my more experienced peers within the breed. We have learned and will continue to learn more about the Maine breed to help increase Maine-Anjou genetics in our customers’ cattle, along with our son’s herd. We are very committed to the Maine Breed, and we look forward to the future. Raising and showing cattle is our operation’s bread and butter and will be for generations to come. CANDIDATE NAME:

LACEY CAFFEE, SOUTH DAKOTA HISTORY OF MY OPERATION AND FAMILY INVOLVEMENT WITH THE MAINE-ANJOU BREED. Caffee Ranch is a family-owned seedstock operation in Wessington Springs, South Dakota. I am a third-generation cattle producer and second-generation on our family’s current operation. Growing up in the cattle industry sparked my passion for seedstock production, customer relationships, and promoting the MaineAnjou breed. Our philosophy is simple: great cattle begin with great cows. We focus on producing functional, structurally sound cattle with phenotype, maternal strength, longevity, and consistency. While we utilize modern genetic tools, we believe they should complement—not replace—good stockmanship and proven cow families. At Caffee Ranch, we strive to produce Cattle with Look—cattle that combine eye appeal with the structural integrity, functionality, and longevity needed to be profitable in the real world. Living in the heart of cattle country has shaped both our program and our philosophy, reflected in our commitment to Discover the Dakota Difference. September 24, 2026 marks our 35th Annual Female Sale, and March 9, 2027 will be our 15th Annual Bull Sale. Over the past several years, I have led the branding, marketing, AUGUST/SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER 2026 94

photography, videography, social media, and customer outreach for Caffee Ranch, helping build a recognizable brand while promoting the Maine-Anjou breed nationwide. WHAT DO YOU VIEW AS STRENGTHS OF THE MAINE-ANJOU BREED AND HOW CAN THOSE STRENGTHS BE USED IN TODAY’S BEEF INDUSTRY? I believe one of the greatest strengths of the Maine-Anjou breed is our cows. Great cows are the foundation of every successful cattle operation, and MaineAnjou females are known for their maternal ability, longevity, and functional udders that stay above the hock. Those are the kinds of cows that remain productive and profitable for years. The Maine-Anjou breed also brings power, performance, muscle, and added pay weight to today’s beef industry. Raising bigger, heavier calves is profitable for everyone—from the commercial producer to the feeder and throughout the entire beef supply chain. When you combine that added performance with quality females that stay in production, MaineAnjou genetics provide value on both the maternal and terminal sides of the industry. I believe those strengths are why the Maine-Anjou breed continues to gain momentum and is well positioned for the future. WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS FOR THE FUTURE OF THE MAINE-ANJOU BREED? Serving on the National Junior MaineAnjou Board of Directors sparked my passion for leadership and service within the breed. We continue to support the National Junior Heifer Show each year because investing in young people is investing in the future of our association. I believe the Maine-Anjou breed is in one of the strongest positions it has been in for many years. We are seeing growth in both the seedstock and commercial sectors, and I want to help build on that momentum. One of the unique perspectives I bring is my involvement in every segment of the breed. I have been active in the junior and show cattle side while also helping operate one of the nation’s larger Maine-

Anjou seedstock programs. Last year, we marketed 62 Maine-Anjou bulls and 40 Maine-Anjou females. Those experiences allow me to understand the needs of junior exhibitors, seedstock breeders, and commercial cattle producers. As a board member, I would focus on promoting the breed, supporting our junior members, strengthening commercial acceptance, and helping tell the Maine-Anjou story through effective communication and marketing. WHAT DOES YOUR PRESENT OPERATION DO TO PROMOTE MAINE-ANJOU GENETICS, WHETHER IT BE LOCALLY, STATE, REGIONAL OR NATIONAL LEVEL? Promoting the Maine-Anjou breed is central to our operation. Through our annual bull and female sales, national advertising, photography, videography, social media, website, and customer relationships, we showcase Maine-Anjou genetics to seedstock and commercial producers across the country. I have worked to build a strong national marketing presence for Caffee Ranch through educational content, storytelling, and consistent communication. I also provide photography and marketing services for fellow breeders, helping promote Maine-Anjou cattle nationwide. ADDITIONAL COMMENTS The Maine-Anjou breed has shaped my life. It has given me lifelong friendships, incredible opportunities, and a career I truly love. Serving on the American MaineAnjou Association Board would be my opportunity to give back to the breed that has given so much to me. I believe my experience in seedstock production, the junior program, branding, marketing, photography, and communication allows me to contribute a unique perspective to the Board. I am proud of where the Maine-Anjou breed is today and excited about where it can go tomorrow.

CANDIDATE NAME:

DAVE VANSICKLE, INDIANA HISTORY OF MY OPERATION AND FAMILY INVOLVEMENT WITH THE MAINE-ANJOU BREED. Like many, our operation was born of our time exhibiting cattle in 4-H and FFA. Located in central Indiana, we have a small herd of 25-35 (depending on the time of year) Maine-Anjou and Maine-influenced cows that are primarily used to produce show cattle for 4-H and FFA members across the country. In 2018, we began feeding and marketing the cattle that did not meet the criteria for the showring as custom-fed and processed freezer beef. This venture has been a great addition to our show cattle program, and we really like the Maine-Anjou influence in these cattle for their added cutability and carcass quality. WHAT DO YOU VIEW AS STRENGTHS OF THE MAINE-ANJOU BREED AND HOW CAN THOSE STRENGTHS BE USED IN TODAY’S BEEF INDUSTRY? I consider versatility to be the greatest strength of the Maine-Anjou breed. The AMAA is recognized among cattle breed associations as one that has excelled across multiple areas of the beef industry, from commercial acceptability and producing high-quality seedstock to providing outstanding opportunities for youth and families through involvement in their junior programs.

This versatility allows producers of all sizes to find success within the MaineAnjou breed. Commercial cattlemen can utilize Maine genetics to improve growth and performance while not compromising muscle, carcass quality, or maternal abilities. At the same time, seedstock producers can continue to develop cattle that meet the evolving demands of the industry. At the same time, the breed’s strong junior program cultivates the next generation of advocates, producers, and leaders focused on the longevity of the association and the beef industry. WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS FOR THE FUTURE OF THE MAINE-ANJOU BREED? As a state advisor for Indiana and a parent of a member who has completed their junior career with the AJMAA, I have seen firsthand the lasting impact that strong leadership and meaningful learning opportunities can have on young people. One of my primary goals moving forward is to continue investing in programs that extend beyond the show ring, such as leadership development, public speaking, networking, industry education, mentorship, and career exploration. By connecting junior members with breeders, agricultural professionals, and industry leaders, we can create pathways for growth while fostering lifelong involvement in the association. Ultimately, my goal is to help grow an association that invests equally in both its members and the cattle, cultivating the next generation of leaders while advancing a breed that consistently makes an impact across all segments of the beef industry.

WHAT DOES YOUR PRESENT OPERATION DO TO PROMOTE MAINE-ANJOU GENETICS, WHETHER IT BE LOCALLY, STATE, REGIONAL OR NATIONAL LEVEL? Our operation promotes Maine-Anjou genetics by serving as ambassadors for the breed at the local and state levels and attending as many national events as possible. We are committed to supporting junior members by participating in field days, shows, and educational events, and by introducing new families to the opportunities and excitement of the MaineAnjou breed, the AMAA, and the AJMAA. Whether we are mentoring first-time exhibitors, assisting fellow breeders, or simply sharing our experiences, we strive to create a welcoming environment that encourages involvement. We believe the best way to promote the Maine-Anjou breed is by building genuine relationships that allow us to share knowledge and highlight the breed’s versatility and value. By investing in people as much as cattle, we strengthen our association to ensure continued growth and success. ADDITIONAL COMMENTS I look forward to the opportunity to work for the members of the AMAA to capitalize on the excitement of Maine-Anjou cattle and their genetics industry-wide, and to use this momentum to grow/retain membership.

What a fun year it has been for our Juniors! Starting the summer with a new record Junior National with 300 new exhibitors, 845 exhibitors, and about 1,600 entries. Talk about a new level at Game on Grand Island! The weather this year was beautiful, and fun was had by all, from the first Influence Livestock Ministry service to our Littles activities, the water park, the dodgeball tournament, all the contests from livestock judging to salesmanship, showmanship, and, of course, getting to step in the ring and show their cattle! We said farewell to some of our exhibitors and Junior Board members, but also got to welcome some amazing new members! We were also blessed with multiple scholarship opportunities for our juniors, which help pour back into the future for our industry, and we cannot thank the Foundations, families, and contributors enough for their generosity. We hope to continue to build up our juniors to stay involved throughout the entire week and to make new friends and connections each year. Speaking of which, we wrapped up our summer at the MAINE event in Des Moines, Iowa, which was amazing! The juniors who attended, as well as our junior board, got to hear from so many industry leaders,

includingincluding Mark Core and Bailey Boyert, the Van Vliet family of Blueprint Cattle Company, Sue Schafer, leaders at Vermeer, the Tlach family, the Loudon family, as well as Hawkeye Breeders & Sullivan Supply! We learned how to continue to persevere in the face of hardship, always to be willing to learn, and to take the step of faith to try new things because you may never know where the Lord will lead you! We also got to see A LOT of really tall corn, mostly dry land too, and that was different for this desert rat. We cannot express our gratitude enough for all of the businesses and families that pour into our juniors! As we move forward into the upcoming year, we are excited to continue to find new ways to improve not only Junior Nationals and MAINE Event, but our Junior board as well as the association to continue to be known as “the family breed”. Thank every one of you for deciding to be a part of the association, and I pray for a blessed year for all of you. Now, LEGO to Louisville!

day 1 ARRIVAL

DES MOINES, IOWA – Each July, the AJMAA Board of Directors hosts its annual leadership conference, the Maine-Anjou Industry Networking Event, fondly known as MAINE. This weeklong experience gives junior members the opportunity to step away from the showring and immerse themselves in hands-on agricultural learning, leadership development, and lifelong friendships. For many attendees, it’s the highlight of their summer. This year’s event took members to the Heart of America—Iowa—for a jampacked week centered around kids, corn, and cows. The conference kicked off with keynote speaker Sue Schafer, an award-winning agricultural educator who inspires students to develop the soft skills needed for success both in and out of the industry. Through her engaging presentation, Sue encouraged attendees to embrace challenges, reminding them that while life may not always deal the cards you hoped for, it’s how you play them that ultimately shapes your future. She challenged everyone to step outside their comfort zone, do hard things, and trust that those moments often lead to the greatest opportunities. Following her keynote, Sue led an interactive scholarship workshop, sharing practical tips and strategies to help members strengthen their applications and stand out when pursuing scholarship opportunities. After enjoying a classic mac and cheese dinner, the evening wrapped up with icebreaker games that quickly turned strangers into friends. Laughter filled the room as members got to know one another, setting the stage for a week filled with learning, leadership, and memories that will last long after MAINE came to a close.

Day Two and we were off! Our first stop of the day took us to Boyert/Core Show Cattle, where past American Junior Maine-Anjou Association board member Bailey (Core) Boyert welcomed us to the family operation. Bailey shared the story of how Boyert/Core got its start, sprinkled in some fun facts about the operation, gave attendees a behind-thescenes tour of their facilities, and even sent everyone home with some great swag. Most importantly, she encouraged members who hope to return to their family operations one day to take advantage of opportunities away from the farm, remain open to new experiences, and never stop learning. It was the perfect way to kick off an exciting day. Next, we were off to Vermeer Manufacturing—and in the wise words of attendee Brazos Heck, “This is radical!” From the company’s history to an inside look at its marketing department, attendees gained a firsthand look at what it takes to build one of agriculture’s most recognizable pieces of equipment. Touring the manufacturing facility and watching a baler come together from start to finish was an experience few will forget. The afternoon wrapped up with a career panel featuring professionals from marketing, engineering,

accounting, design, and several other departments, showing members that there are countless ways to build a successful career in agriculture. To top it all off, everyone even took home their own miniature Vermeer baler. A special thank you goes to Mark Core and the entire Vermeer team for rolling out the red carpet and making our visit so memorable. Two messages resonated with everyone that afternoon: find your passion, and remember that life may never be as good as you dream it will be, but it will never be as bad as you think. After an incredible afternoon, we loaded up and headed to Prole, Iowa, where the Tlach Family of City View Farms welcomed us with open arms. Barry, Amy, Jenna, and Abby Tlach gave us a tour of both their impressive show barn and their seed and fertilizer operation, offering a unique look at another side of production agriculture. Barry made sure our friends from the South got a proper introduction to Iowa corn, joking that “knee-high by the Fourth of July” is no longer the goal—today, it should be sky-high by the Fourth of July! Following the tour, everyone enjoyed ice cream, more great swag, and plenty of laughs before climbing back on the bus. Our final stop of the day was about as Iowa as it gets—an evening with the crew at Team T-Bone. Tim, Karen, and Tyler welcomed our group like family, sharing not only their outstanding Fullblood MaineAnjou cattle, but also their passion for the beef industry, the Maine-Anjou breed, and the people who make it special. After touring the operation and asking plenty of questions, everyone gathered for a true Iowa supper featuring hot beef sundaes, sweet corn, and watermelon. If that wasn’t enough, the evening wrapped up with fishing, basketball, volleyball, and simply enjoying time together until the fireflies came out. By the time we climbed back on the bus, everyone was tired—but Day Two had delivered exactly what MAINE is all about: learning from industry leaders, experiencing agriculture firsthand, and creating friendships and memories that will last a lifetime.

day 3 GRAND FINALE

AUGUST/SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER 2026 102

The final day of MAINE arrived, but our adventure was far from over! We loaded the bus early and kicked off the day with a visit to Hawkeye Breeders Service, where attendees got an inside look at the world of bull studs. A huge thank you to Shane Boston for taking the time to show us around and explain the day-to-day operations that make everything possible. Of course, one of the highlights of the morning was getting an up-close look at some of the industry’s most recognizable sires, including Data Bank and Here I Am. Needless to say, there were plenty of smiles, even more questions, and lots of learning before we climbed back on the bus for our next stop. After a short ride to Denison, Iowa, we grabbed lunch at an Iowa favorite, the Pizza Ranch, before kicking off another edition of “How It’s Made: Stock Show Edition!” The afternoon began with a tour of the Sullivan Supply manufacturing facility, where attendees saw firsthand how many of the products they use every show season are made. From show boxes to stall dividers and everything in between, it was fascinating to see the craftsmanship and teamwork that go into producing equipment used by exhibitors across the country. Next, we headed to Sullivan Supply Headquarters, where we met an outstanding panel of women who have built rewarding careers in agriculture. Jenny Tice, of Cargill, Christi Brown of Zinpro, Tara Thorson of Zinpro, and Tess Mittag of Sullivan Supply shared their career journeys, offered advice about finding opportunities in the agriculture industry, and gave attendees a glimpse into what their day-to-day roles look like. Their stories reinforced that there are countless ways to make an impact in agriculture, both inside and outside the showring. The Sullivan Supply team truly rolled out the show carpet for our group. Attendees toured the company’s impressive new warehouse, watched orders being packed and shipped across the country, learned how trailers are prepared for shows throughout the year, and, of course, wrapped up the visit with a little shopping in the Sullivan Supply retail store. A special thank you to James Sullivan for coordinating such an incredible experience

for our group. We weren’t quite finished with Dunlap just yet. Our next stops included Sullivan Farms and Tice Show Cattle, where attendees had the opportunity to visit with Josh Elder and Nate Tice about their respective operations, how they built their programs, and the lessons they’ve learned along the way. Before hitting the road again, Nate and Jenny Tice treated everyone to refreshing slushies and that was a perfect way to cool off before heading to our next stop. We made our way to Blueprint Cattle Company in Scranton, Iowa, where Marty, Cade, and Emily Van Vliet welcomed us to their operation. Both Marty and Cade have dedicated countless hours to serving the American Maine-Anjou Association and the American Junior Maine-Anjou Association, and they generously shared their knowledge of the Maine-Anjou breed, the cattle business, and the importance of giving back to the industry. Their passion for the breed and its future was evident in every conversation. As if the day couldn’t get any better, we were treated to another taste of Iowa hospitality with a delicious hamburger dinner enjoyed on a beautiful summer evening. Before leaving, everyone gathered for one final group photo with the ranch’s four-legged ambassador, Marvin the Golden Retriever, and our extra special bus driver, Sam, who were both crowd favorites. Our final stop of MAINE 2026 took us to Smash Park Des Moines, for one last evening of fun. Whether it was batting cages, pickleball, darts, yard games, or simply relaxing with new friends, everyone found a way to enjoy the final hours together. As the week came to a close, it was easy to see that MAINE is about much more than the places we visit. It’s about the people we meet, the lessons we learn, the careers we discover, and the friendships we build along the way. Thank you to every host, sponsor, volunteer, and AJMAA Board member who made this unforgettable week possible. We can’t wait to see where the road takes us next year.
