ANTONINO SCIORTINO Flamingo lamp Antonino was born in Palermo. When he was just eight years old, he began to forge iron in his father’s studio. He particularly worked with ‘soft’ iron, which is relatively pliable and thus easier to work with. For Serax, he has designed an exclusive collection for a broad market. NL Antonino is geboren in Palermo. Toen hij acht jaar was begon hij reeds in het atelier van zijn vader met het smeden van ijzer. Hij ging vooral aan de slag met ‘zacht’ ijzer, dat dankzij zijn plooibaarheid gemakkelijker werkbaar was. Voor Serax ontwierp hij een exclusieve collectie voor een bredere markt.
DE Antonino wurde in Palermo geboren. Bereits mit acht Jahren begann er, in der Werkstatt seines Vaters Eisen zu schmieden. Er beschäftigte sich vor allem mit ‘weichem’ Eisen, das dank seiner Wirksamkeit leichter zu bearbeiten war. Für Serax entwarf er eine exklusive Kollektion für einen breiteren Markt.
FR Antonino est né à Palerme. Il avait à peine huit ans lorsqu’il commença à forger le fer dans l’atelier de son père. En raison de sa flexibilité, le fer doux devint son matériau de prédilection. À la demande de Serax, il créa une collection exclusive destinée à un marché plus étendu.
IT Antonino è nato a Palermo. Già all’età di otto anni ha iniziato a praticare la forgiatura del ferro presso il laboratorio del padre, lavorando principalmente con ferro “dolce”, più agevole da forgiare grazie alla sua malleabilità. Ha creato per Serax una collezione esclusiva per un mercato più ampio.

STUDIO SIMPLE A touch of black and brass At first glance, Studio Simple’s lamps for Serax look rather uncomplicated: sober lines and curves, mainly made from metal and wood, mostly black, with some terracotta highlights that seem to confirm the austerity of the rest of the collection. However, beneath all that outward modesty lies an ingenious and complex design taking the aesthetics to a higher level. And a wink and nod are never far away.

NL Op het eerste zicht lijken de lampen van Studio Simple voor Serax heel eenvoudig. Sobere lijnen en curves, grotendeels uit metaal en hout, overwegend zwart met hier en daar een terracotta uitschieter die de soberheid van de rest van de collectie lijkt te bevestigen. Achter al die uiterlijke bescheidenheid schuilt echter een ingenieus en complex ontwerp dat de esthetiek net naar een hoger niveau tilt. En ook een knipoog is nooit ver weg … FR À première vue, les lampes de Studio Simple pour Serax paraissent très… simples. Des lignes et courbes sobres, essentiellement du bois ou du métal, généralement noir, mais avec quelques accents de terre cuite, qui semblent confirmer la sobriété du reste de la collection. Mais gare : derrière cette modestie apparente se cache un concept ingénieux et complexe, qui relève justement le niveau esthétique. Avec un clin d'œil humoristique en prime. Schlichte Linien und Rundungen, größtenteils aus Metall und Holz, überwiegend schwarz mit der einen oder anderen Terrakottanote, die die Einfachheit der restlichen Kollektion zu bestätigen scheint. In its distinctive style, the French designer plays a bizarre game of cat and mouse with the function of the object. Flat on the table, cupboard or floor, the Eaunophe lamp just looks like a sturdy, solid concrete sculpture in the shape of a lampshade. But as soon as you slightly tilt the lamp, a warm and diffused light emerges from under the hood. As if by magic, everything merges into a harmonious game of hard and soft, cold and warm, aloof yet welcoming at the same time. LAUREN VAN DRIESSCHE Terra Light From an original birthday gift for her partner to a collection of mood lamps. Terra Light, by Lauren Van Driessche, is born out of love with a dash of functionality and has grown into a playful collection of table and floor lamps that, almost imperceptibly, add that little touch of extra atmosphere. An adjustable sphere resting on an empty cylinder can shine its light in any desired direction. The warm terracotta material and the robust finish provide for an artisanal look, while the whitecoloured interior of the sphere creates a beautiful contrast and optimises the reflection of the light in a peculiar way. Terra Light is the first collection that Lauren Van Driessche presents in collaboration with Serax, but she is already musing on an expansion of the terracotta collection.

Earth A profound love for paper and prints and the reuse of materials has inspired Marie Michielssen to create a series of characteristic lamps and pots in papier-mâché, for Serax. Playing with volumes, she creates a new visual print. The light finds its way out through a framework with a well thought-out linear structure. The unique, traditional character is not only reflected in the print, but also in the shape and colours. In the light, natural colour of the papier-mâché or in warm soothing earth tones, hanging or standing, the Earth lamps by Marie Michielssen for Serax enrich the light and atmosphere in any interior.
NL Een diepgaande liefde voor papier en prints en het hergebruik van materialen inspireerde Marie Michielssen om en reeks karakteristieke lampen uit papier-maché te ontwerpen voor Serax. Spelend met volume creëert ze een nieuwe visuele print. Door een raamwerk met een weldoordachte lineaire structuur vinden de lichtstralen hun weg naar buiten. Het unieke, ambachtelijke karakter komt niet alleen terug in de print, maar ook in de vorm en kleuren. Concrete Lamp The starting point in all of Dutch designer Renate Vos's designs is her own fascination with a particular material or technique. Her creations are not conceived in advance, but develop during the working process. The ultimate goal is to create a functional object inciting a sense of wonder. This sense of wonder can arise from the application of a certain technique, her own interpretation of work, or the new use of a material. In 2012 she designed standing and hanging lamps for Serax, made from concrete and silicone rubber. These timeless beauties are still among the top sellers in the Serax collection. Despite its sleek appearance, the lamp emits a warm and intriguing light.

back to the past, recreating it into an original, contemporary and timeless design. The Novecento hanging lamp recreates a room’s atmosphere of more than a century ago. The design is sleek and straightforward, without too many frills, but offering all the contemporary comfort. The clear blue or grey glass cloche reveals the metal framework and electrical wiring in a subtle, eye-catching way.
NL Tineke Beunders en Nathan Wierink van Ontwerpduo vormen samen een wonderbaarlijke combinatie van fantasie en vindingrijkheid. Met deze collectie zetten ze hun tanden in een stukje geschiedenis, dat ze herscheppen tot een origineel, hedendaags en toch tijdloos ontwerp. De Novecento-hanglamp neemt de verlichting van de kamer terug naar de sfeer van ruim een eeuw geleden. Het ontwerp is strak en simpel, zonder al te veel tierlantijntjes, maar met behoud van alle comfort uit het heden. De heldere, blauwe of grijze glazen kap onthult het metalen hangwerk en de elektrakabels op een subtiele, oogstrelende manier. Mit dieser Kollektion schreiben sie ein Stück Geschichte neu, indem sie diese neu gestalten zu einem originellen, zeitgenössischen und dennoch zeitlosen Entwurf. Die NovecentoHängelampe taucht mit ihrem Licht den Raum in die Atmosphäre des letzten Jahrhunderts ein. Der Entwurf ist minimalistisch und schlicht, ohne zu viel Firlefanz, aber unter Berücksichtigung von jeglichem Komfort aus der Gegenwart. Der transparent/blaue oder transparent/ graue Glasschirm enthüllt die Metallkonstruktion und die Elektrokabel auf eine subtile und schöne Weise. IT Tineke Beunders e Nathan Wierink, creatori di Ontwerpduo, rappresentano una stupefacente combinazione di fantasia e creatività. Con questa collezione affondano i denti in un pezzo di storia, che rielaborano per dare vita ad un design originale, contemporaneo eppure atemporale. La lampada Novecento con la sua illuminazione riporta la stanza ad un’atmosfera di oltre un secolo fa. La forma è tersa e sobria, senza troppi fronzoli, pur mantenendo ogni comfort dell’epoca attuale. Il paralume è realizzato in vetro trasparente dal colore grigio o azzurro, grazie a cui è possibile intravedere in modo delicato e pregevole la struttura in metallo sospesa e i cavi elettrici.

Just a light EN All superfluous elements have been filtered away in ‘Just a light’ to retain a cage-shaped structure with 12 ribs. The lamp holder hangs simply in the cage by means of a leather noose. And yet, this composition conceals an extra option: the metal structure can be tilted 90°, whereby the proportions in the structure change and instantly the entire appearance of ‘Just a light’ as well.
FR ‘Just a light’ est le fruit d’un travail d’épuration de tous les éléments superflus : de la structure en cage, seuls 12 barreaux ont été retenus. La douille est simplement suspendue dans la cage à l’aide d’un anneau en cuir. Mais l’objet masque une option supplémentaire : la structure métallique peut pivoter à 90 ° pour modifier les rapports et ne révéler alors que ‘Just a light’.

Serax is the brainchild of SErge and Axel Van Den Bossche. Two brothers who were brought up amidst the flowerpot trade in their mother’s business. Over the past thirty years, the small-scale business that started up in a garage in 1986 has grown into a multinational with over 65 employees and a head office in Antwerp. In 1991 their nephew Frank Lambert joined the company. Today, the company is led by Axel. Axel’s wife – Marie Michielssen – is Serax’ house designer. She is the creator of, amongst other things, the famous ‘cactus Vase’. Serax is a family business where passion runs through the veins.

WE DESIGN HAPPINESS
All Serax collections – from tableware, glass, and furniture to flowerpots and lighting – are all carefully chosen for the purpose of creating interiors that bring happiness. The interior of a home is the mirror of the personality of the people living in it. Therefore, Serax and its team of designers only selects and edits products that have soul.
Working with well-known and lesser known designers is built into Serax’ DNA. In 1990, the brand started a tentative collaboration with Peter Arts, which was quite revolutionary in the florist design industry. One year later, Serax achieved international fame, thanks to the collaboration with floral artist Daniel Ost, who designed ‘The Flower Booth’ for the French design fair Maison & Objet. The seed was planted. Since then, Serax has entered into dozens of partnerships that have resulted in renowned collections and success at an international level.

WE HAVE A TABLEWARE LOVE STORY When founder Axel met ceramic artist Roos van de Velde in 2009, he wasn’t aware that this encounter would change the future of his company forever. After the launch of her tableware collection, starred restaurants from all over the world suddenly lined up to order from Serax. Today, Serax is the number one reference for Michelin chefs to provide them with the necessary creative porcelain or ceramics that enhance the aesthetics of their dishes. 4 80
