Learning Outcomes
This presentation will introduce the concept of neurodiversity, explore relevant legislation, standards, and guidelines, and examine common sensory challenges and their design implications. It will provide the foundational context needed to understand how diverse cognitive and sensory profiles interact with the built environment, highlighting the importance of inclusive design principles. Through this overview, participants will gain a clearer understanding of why neuroinclusive design matters, how it aligns with industry expectations and emerging best practice, and how these considerations can meaningfully shape design decisions from the earliest stages of a project.
This presentation will deliver outcomes related to the following Competency from the National Standard of Competency for Architects:
• Project initiation and conceptual design (PC18 and PC28)
• Detailed design and construction documentation (PC39)
