A Note From the Publisher
There is something special about a home in Texarkana. In a world that moves fast, our houses become more than a building. They become home — our sanctuaries in life.
From the foundation beneath your feet to the landscaping that frames your front door, every detail of a home tells a story. Behind those details are the professionals who make it all possible. In this issue, we are proud to feature businesses that serve our community with skill, integrity, and heart — from realtors to roofers, outdoor living specialists, and beyond.
Texarkana is uniquely positioned — two states, one community. That spirit of connection shows up in the way our local businesses operate. They are not just service providers; they are neighbors. They attend the same churches, support the same schools, and cheer from the same sidelines. When they help you renovate a kitchen, refresh a garden, or build an outdoor retreat, they are also investing in the place they call home.
Homes reflect the people who live in them, from a gallery of your favorite photographs to shelves full of finished novels to the planted flowers waiting to grow. They hold history and bring comfort to their owner.
We also recognize that “home” extends beyond four walls. Outdoor living spaces, gardens, patios, and gathering areas have become central to how families connect and unwind. They are an extension of daily life — a place for your morning coffee, late dinners, and quiet reflection under string lights.
Creating a beautiful and functional home does not happen by accident. It takes vision, craftsmanship, and trust. Whether you are building from the ground up, remodeling a well-loved space, or simply looking to enhance your curb appeal, the professionals featured in these pages offer expertise you can rely on.
As you turn these pages, we encourage you to think not only about projects, but about possibilities. What could your home become? What spaces could better reflect your family’s needs and dreams? The answers may be closer than you think — often right here in Texarkana.
Our local businesses are the backbone of this community. Supporting them means strengthening the very neighborhoods we cherish. It means investing in quality, relationships, and a shared future.
Thank you for being part of a community that values home — not just as a structure, but as a sanctuary. We hope this issue inspires you to build, plant, design, and dream boldly.
Because when our homes thrive, Texarkana thrives.

Summer Gerrald Realtor, PH Realty Team
Written by: Michelle Horton
In Texarkana, where neighborhoods are stitched together by long-standing relationships and front porch conversations still matter, Summer Gerrald believes real estate is about far more than square footage. It is about people, history, and the life that unfolds inside four walls.
With a heart rooted in service and a lifetime dedicated to building meaningful connections, Summer Gerrald of the PH Realty Team brings a rare blend of leadership, strategy, and compassion to the real estate industry. A proud Texarkana native, she understands the rhythms of this community because she has helped shape them.
Long before stepping fully into real estate, Summer was building something else entirely. In 2015, she co-founded SPF, Inc. with her husband, Teddy. Under her leadership, the company grew into a trusted corporate partner for major companies including FedEx, UPS, and Amazon. In 2019, SPF, Inc. was honored as “Large Business of the Year,” a recognition that reflects both strategic vision and steady leadership.
Those years of executive experience sharpened skills that now serve her clients daily: strategic planning, clear communication, and relationship building. Real estate, she explains, was not a pivot so much as a calling that made sense for this season of life.
“What drew me to real estate? Honestly, it felt like a natural progression,” she says. “This season of life brought a renewed eagerness to pursue professional goals while also contributing to my community in a meaningful, diverse way. At the heart of it all, I love connecting with people. That part has always come naturally.”
That love of connection runs deep in Summer’s story. Since 2017, she has served as a city council member, advocating for local growth and development. She continues to sit on local boards and serves on the TREC executive board subcommittee for education, as well as the MLS committee for the Texarkana Board of Realtors. Her commitment to ethical standards is equally strong; she serves on the Professional Standards Committee/ Grievance, a standing committee of the Texarkana Board of Realtors that oversees matters related to the Code of Ethics as adopted by the National Association of Realtors.
Her volunteerism has long been a defining thread. She remains deeply committed to service and carries a heart of volunteerism after a decade of consistent involvement. She continues to support education and community initiatives. She serves on the board of directors of the Arkansas Quarter Horse Association and the Four States Fair, reflecting her dedication to the equestrian community.
Education has also been central to her professional growth. Summer studied History at Texas A&M UniversityTexarkana and previously earned her insurance license, during which she received numerous awards. That
background gives her a practical advantage in navigating complex processes and protecting her clients’ interests. She has continued to build on that foundation in real estate, earning her Accredited Buyer’s Representative (ABR®) designation this year, as well as the Certified Luxury Home Marketing Specialist (CLHMS™) designation. The CLHMS™ is the highest-earning designation in real estate; unlike other luxury certifications, which require only training, agents with the CLHMS™ designation have demonstrated proven expertise in the upper tier of the market.
Despite her impressive résumé, Summer’s perspective shapes the way she works. Her approach is deliberate and relational. “My approach is rooted in relationships, not transactions,” she explains. “I believe in thoughtful guidance, strategic decision-making, and clear communication at every stage. Each client’s goals, timeline, and lifestyle are different, so I tailor the experience to fit them, never the other way around.”
That mindset is part of what sets her apart in the Texarkana market. “I keep a relationship-first mindset and hold to my belief in collaboration over competition,” she says. “I approach every transaction with strategy, integrity, and a genuine desire to see everyone at the table succeed.”
Buying or selling a home is often one of the most significant financial and emotional decisions a person makes. Summer understands the weight of that moment and intentionally creates an environment of clarity. “I make my clients feel confident and comfortable by keeping communication clear, honest, and consistent,” she says. “I take the time to explain each step, answer every question, and make sure they never feel rushed or uncertain. When people understand the process and feel truly heard, confidence naturally follows.”
There are moments in real estate that remind her why the work matters. Summer describes a defining moment, saying, “One moment that stands out is when a family walked into a home after a long search and instantly felt at peace. They slowed down, their voices softened, and they started talking about where the Christmas tree would go and which room the kids would claim. It reminded me that this work is not about contracts or keys, it is about the life that unfolds inside those walls.”
For buyers walking into a potential home, Summer encourages them to look beyond surface details. “Notice the light at different times of day, the way the rooms connect, the storage, and the overall functionality of the space. A beautiful home is wonderful, but a home that lives well day to day is what truly matters,” she says. For first-time buyers, her guidance is steady and practical. “Focus on preparation, not perfection,” she says. “Get pre-approved, understand your budget, and work with a professional who can guide you through the process. The right home is not always the most perfect one on paper; it is the one that fits your life and your future.”
For sellers, she emphasizes strategy from the start. “One of the most common mistakes sellers make is overpricing their home at the start,” she says. “It is natural to want to leave room to negotiate, but the market responds best to homes that are priced correctly from day one. The first few weeks on the market are the most important. To avoid this, trust the data, study the comparable sales, and work with an agent who will give you honest, strategic pricing advice.”
For anyone hoping to love where they live, her advice circles back to intention.“Choose a place that supports your daily life, not just your wish list,” she says. “Pay attention to how a home feels in the quiet, ordinary moments, the morning light in the kitchen, the drive to your favorite places, the sense of community around you. Loving where you live is often about the little things that shape your everyday life.”
At home, Summer lives the values she promotes. A devoted wife, mother of three, and proud “Breezy” to her first grandchild, Bellamy Grey, she understands firsthand that a home is more than an address. Weekends are spent on the farm, supporting her family at horse shows, or enjoying time together. Those experiences ground her work and remind her what clients are truly searching for.
In a market defined by growth and change, Summer Gerrald remains anchored in relationships, integrity, and community. For her, real estate is not simply about buying and selling houses. It is about foundations—literal and figurative—and about helping families build lives in the places they call home.

Lawn Rescue Kevin Wesselhoft
In a region where pride in homeownership runs deep, Lawn Rescue has become a trusted name for homeowners seeking dependable, high-quality lawn care and landscaping in Texarkana. Lawn Rescue is more than a lawn service company—it is a first responder–owned and operated business grounded in reliability, discipline, and integrity.
Owner Kevin Wesselhoft traces his passion for lawn care back to his high school years, when he worked alongside his father learning dirt work, yard leveling, bush hogging, and the fundamentals of running a business. Today, that foundation continues to influence every project Lawn Rescue undertakes, from routine mowing to full landscaping installations.
Over the last ten years, Lawn Rescue has grown steadily, fueled by strong customer relationships and a reputation for consistent results. The company offers a wide range of services tailored to homeowners who want both beauty and functionality in their outdoor spaces. Services include complete lawn care, landscaping, small tree trimming and removal, shrub shaping, gutter cleanouts, seasonal clean-ups, flowerbed installations, mulch and rock relay, and debris haul-off. This comprehensive approach allows homeowners to rely on one trusted team rather than juggling multiple contractors.
What truly sets Lawn Rescue apart, however, is its mission-driven mindset. As a first responder–owned company, the business operates with the same principles that guide public service: showing up on time, protecting property, paying close attention to detail, and completing the job correctly the first time. Homeowners are not simply hiring a lawn crew; they are partnering with professionals who understand responsibility and take pride in serving their community both on and off duty.
Operating Monday through Saturday beginning at 6 a.m., Lawn Rescue accommodates the busy schedules of local families while maintaining high standards of service. For homeowners seeking less stress and greater pride in their property, Lawn Rescue offers both expertise and peace of mind. With strong roots in family tradition and first responder values, Kevin Wesselhoft and his team continue to cultivate not only beautiful lawns but also lasting relationships across Texarkana.
Pillow Termite and Pest Control
Few things matter more than protecting the place where families gather, grow, and build memories. For nearly seven decades, Pillow Termite and Pest Control has helped homeowners across Texarkana safeguard their properties from unwanted pests and costly structural damage. This family-owned business has become a trusted name in residential and commercial pest management since its founding in 1958.
The company’s story began with David Pillow, who was inspired to enter the pest control industry after observing his father’s work in the field. While delivering newspapers on his route, he began speaking with customers about protecting their homes from insects and termites. Through persistence and personal connections—along with networking at local Homebuilders Association events—he steadily built a loyal clientele. His commitment to service laid a strong foundation for what would become a multigenerational family business, with sons Glenn and Tony continuing the business.
Today, Pillow Termite and Pest Control offers comprehensive pest management services for both residential and commercial properties. Core services include general pest control and termite preventative treatments designed to protect homes from long-term structural damage. Termites, in particular, pose a serious threat in this region, making preventative treatment and regular inspection a critical investment for homeowners.
In addition to its ongoing pest control programs, the company provides new-construction soil treatments to create protective barriers before a home is completed. This proactive approach helps builders and homeowners reduce the risk of future infestations. Pillow Termite and Pest Control also performs Wood Destroying Insect Report inspections, often required during real estate transactions to ensure properties are structurally sound. Specialized services such as roach cleanouts and rodent removal further demonstrate the company’s ability to respond to urgent or severe pest issues.
One of the distinguishing features of Pillow Termite and Pest Control is its experienced team. Technicians are licensed and certified in both Texas and Arkansas, enabling the company to serve the broader Texarkana area with professionalism and regulatory compliance. The company also offers a range of service plans tailored to different needs and budgets, allowing clients to select coverage that aligns with their property size, pest concerns, and financial considerations.
Customer satisfaction remains central to the company’s mission. Same-day or next-day appointments are often available, reflecting a responsiveness that homeowners appreciate when facing pest problems. More importantly, the business emphasizes a relationship-driven approach, treating clients with care and respect rather than as routine service calls.
Pillow Termite and Pest Control continues to build a legacy that spans generations. This longstanding family business remains committed to protecting homes and providing peace of mind to the community it has served since 1958.

Located at 8215 North Kings Highway, this locally owned company continues a family legacy in the painting industry while offering modern solutions for today’s homeowners.
Owner Jacob Raney represents the second generation of a family deeply rooted in the trade. The story began in 1979, when his father entered the wallpaper installation and paint industry in the Texarkana area. Over time, the business expanded to include residential and commercial painting, meeting the evolving needs of the community. Jacob joined the company in 2006, contributing to further growth and gaining hands-on experience that would shape his future in the industry. When his father retired in 2019, Jacob officially established Raney Paint Services, carrying forward more than four decades of family expertise. This year marks his twentieth year working in the painting profession.
Raney Paint Services has focused primarily on residential and commercial painting. Whether refreshing a single room, updating an entire exterior, or transforming a commercial space, the company approaches each project with attention to detail and a commitment to quality finishes. Clean lines, proper preparation, and durable materials are foundational elements of their work, ensuring that every project enhances both the appearance and value of the property.
Beyond painting, Raney Paint Services also offers remodeling solutions for residential kitchens, bathrooms, and whole-home makeovers. This expanded scope allows homeowners to rely on one trusted team for comprehensive updates rather than coordinating multiple independent contractors. By managing projects from start to finish, the company simplifies what can otherwise be an overwhelming process.
Operating Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., the team prioritizes structure and reliability, two traits that clients have come to expect. Over the years, Raney Paint Services has cultivated longterm relationships with homeowners who return again and again for new projects. In many cases, the company now serves the next generation of families who have trusted the Raney name for decades. That continuity speaks to more than technical skill; it reflects integrity, professionalism, and a dedication to customer satisfaction.
For Texarkana homeowners seeking dependable service and lasting results, Jacob Raney and his team continue to deliver spaces that feel renewed, refined, and ready for the next chapter.

The organization’s tools and educational resources support these clients at every stage, from initial search to final signature, making homeownership more accessible and well-informed for families in North Texas.
Stewart Title also serves the commercial real estate sector with specialized expertise. These services include sophisticated support, such as 1031 exchanges and financing solutions, that help investors and developers manage risk and achieve their project goals.

WHEN THE UNEXPECTED HITS, LIQUIDITY MATTERS
BUSINESS OWNERSHIP
How securities-based lending can help you in the face of disaster.
While operational and technical continuity often take priority in disaster recovery planning, financial resilience is equally important. Too often, organizations overlook how financial stability will support their ability to recover and sustain operations during a crisis. There is a need for business owners to take a more holistic approach to disaster recovery planning; one that integrates financial preparedness.
Incorporating a securities-based line of credit (SBL) into your emergency preparedness plan can help you gain quick access to funds during a crisis, easing stress and aiding in rebuilding. Securities-based lending allows investors to use their portfolio as collateral to secure a loan. For business owners, this offers access to liquidity without having to sell investments, which is particularly advantageous in avoiding disruption to your long-term investment strategy.
Here’s what to consider when adding an SBL to your emergency preparedness strategy.
Understand the benefits
An SBL is flexible enough to help meet almost any business financing need. If your business is dealing with unexpected damage or cleanup, an SBL can provide quick access to funds, especially while you wait for your insurance claims to settle. In the case of an earthquake, for example, some recovery expenses may extend beyond regular insurance coverage. That’s where an SBL can step in. It can offer:
• Fast, convenient access to funds: An SBL typically requires less documentation and has a faster underwriting and application process than traditional loans. Depending on your situation and lender, approval can take just a few days. Additionally, funds are accessible through wire transfer, ACH or checks.
• Flexible borrowing structures and repayment options: Loan amounts are based on the value of the collateralized securities. Because the loan is backed by collateral, the lender takes on less risk and offers more flexible terms. These may include interest-only payments for a certain period.
• Variety of uses: An SBL can be used for most legal purposes, except for the purchase of securities. You can use these funds for repairs as you wait for an insurance settlement, to pay employees’ salaries as you get the business operational again, or to quickly replace inventory and equipment that was not completely covered by insurance.
• Cost-effectiveness: An SBL typically has no upfront, maintenance or closing costs, making it a costeffective way to borrow. Additionally, the borrower can pledge multiple accounts to increase the credit line without additional financing costs.
Mind the potential risks
Like with any financial instrument, you should weigh all the factors before you commit. An SBL may not be the best option for every business owner. Before you decide that it should be part of your emergency preparedness plan, consider these aspects:
• Limited liquidity: Securities used as collateral can be sold in the open market, but the cash will be pledged to the loan. This limits borrowers in their ability to leverage the money swiftly.
• High concentration: If diversification isn’t carefully considered and the collateral is concentrated in a small selection of securities, the borrower faces greater risk tied to the performance of those assets.
• Market volatility: The value of securities used as collateral can fluctuate with market conditions. If it drops significantly (for example, below 50% of the closing day loan value), this may trigger a collateral call and force the borrower to provide additional collateral to avoid securities being sold to cover the loan. Including an SBL in your emergency preparedness plan may give confidence that your business will continue
operating during a disaster. Carefully consider the benefits and risks with your financial situation to determine if it’s the right fit for you and your business.
A Securities-Based Line of Credit (SBLC) may not be suitable for all clients. The proceeds from an SBLC cannot be (a) used to purchase or carry securities; (b) deposited into a Raymond James investment or trust account; (c) used to purchase any product issued or brokered through an affiliate of Raymond James, including insurance; or (d) otherwise used for the benefit of, or transferred to, an affiliate of Raymond James. Raymond James Bank does not accept RJF stock or any securities issued by affiliates of Raymond James Financial as pledged securities towards an SBLC. Borrowing on securities based lending products and using securities as collateral may involve a high degree of risk including unintended tax consequences and the possible need to sell your holdings, which may lead to a significant impact on long-term investment goals. Market conditions can magnify any potential for loss. If the market turns against the client, he or she may be required to quickly deposit additional securities and/or cash in the account(s) or pay down the loan to avoid liquidation. The securities in the Pledged Account(s) may be sold to meet the Collateral Call, and the firm can sell the client’s securities without contacting them. A client is not entitled to choose which securities or other assets in his or her account are liquidated or sold to meet a Collateral Call. The firm can increase its maintenance requirements at any time and is not required to provide a client advance written notice. A client is not entitled to an extension of time on a Collateral Call. Increased interest rates could also affect SOFR rates (or any successor rate thereto) that apply to your SBLC causing the cost of the credit line to increase significantly. The interest rates charged are determined by the market value of pledged assets and the net value of the client’s non-pledged Capital Access account. Securities Based Line of Credit provided by Raymond James Bank. Raymond James & Associates, Inc. and Raymond James Financial Services, Inc. are affiliated with Raymond James Bank, member FDIC.

SuziE TK SNippETS
By: Suzie Tyler
I love technology. Suzietk’s Snippets will give you tidbits on everything from makeup tips to music tips and everything in between. I have a wealth of information in my brain! If I can just access the hard drive, I will blog about it!!
Step back in time to the 40s and 50s!
My parents were only children and admitted they were lonely growing up. The closest neighbors were several miles away, and they had no one to play with, and wanted several children when they married.
I was the sixth child of nine and a few months old when my dad was drafted into the Army. My brothers and grandmother felt sorry for me not having my dad around and gave in to my every whim. I was spoiled and a handful! When Dad came home from Germany, he did the same. (I’m sure I milked it. lol)
My two sisters were several years older than me and as the little sister, I’m sure I was a “nuisance!” I remember moving to the next block from Grim Street to Jackson Street on College Hill. Walking across the vacant lot with them, I took my life’s possessions ... a doll and a china tea set! I was only five years old, but my memory has etched it vividly in my mind, and I treasure those childhood memories! I was a dreamer, living in my own little imaginary world.
In 1950, my older sister played the clarinet for the Arkansas High School Band. She and several of her girlfriends were practicing majorette tryouts. As they practiced their routines, I marched with them to an imaginary drummer and pretended to be a drum major. I used a long stick for my baton and a green cap my mother knitted for my headpiece. I took a flower from a crepe myrtle tree in the front yard for my plume. In the ‘good old days,’ we were creative and played outside.
My sister and nephew moved to Texarkana while her husband was in Greenland serving in the Air Force. She had a 1949 standard-shift Buick and taught me to drive when I was 13. I would drive her car to pick up an item she needed. (Without a license, I might add, but the statute of limitations has expired.)
My sisters and mom were excellent seamstresses and taught me how to combine several patterns to create a unique design. I entered a 4-H competition in 5th grade and won first place. In my next life, I want to be a fashion designer.
When my other sister married, her husband loved to tease and embarrass me! I’m sure he would have many stories to tell. He worked for the Texarkana Gazette and redeemed himself when I was fifteen, when he brought my future husband to supper and introduced us.
I love the fifties. It was a great time to grow up, and it was a special time with my sisters. My ‘brother stories’ will have to be for another blog.
Happy St Patrick’s Day. If you’re Irish, enjoy your day! Wear green to keep the leprechauns from pinching you!
If you’re not into folklore and pinching, look for your guardian angel that God provides each of us. I’m sure I’ve been assigned three or four extra ones. I’m still handful, even as an adult.
Make memories.
