David Grossmann has long approached his work as explorations: of texture and transition; of time passing; of transparency and opacity; of color, light and affect. Within this continuum of subtle observation, the birth of his first child has sparked a sea change in how he conceives of his compositions and how he tethers their ruminations to his own lived experience. Now, he resolves his ideas in advance of applying paint to canvas, working more deliberately, on a smaller scale. Still, his work invites viewers to identify with consciousness amid complexity, to bear witness to the profundity of nature, as it cradles our lives and our loved ones.
